I have been getting Papa's Pizza since the 80's! It's really great! Always tastes the same. I love it! If you never tried it you have to. The pizza's are smaller than other trays...so figure on 1 person. LOL I eat a whole one myself most of the time. The taste is unique to other places the crust is excellent! Crispy yet not hard crispy. The flavor is fantastic. I wish they delivered though..It would help a lot as I moved to North Scranton and don't drive so I have to send someone for it. Big variety on the menu including very tasty unique pizza, hot hoagies/subs called grinders, surprisingly excellent variety of soups, also wings, salads, sandwiches and tons more. I started going to Pappas when it first opened in '71. I love their pizza and grinders. I see that some reviewers consider the pizza "greasy". When you make pizza with the proper cheese it's supposed to be greasy. You blot off the excess oil and Enjoy the flavor. The crust is nicely crispy as well. I've lived all around the country, and I've never seen another pizza like it. Their grinders taste different too. Maybe its the fresh, very finely shredded lettuce that sets the flavors off. I'm not kidding; it seems to make a difference. I craved their food many times during the decades I wasn't in town. read more

I stopped by Pizza by Pappas for a quick meal (takeout). They sell small personal size pizzas. Pizza by Peppas crust is crispy and holds everything together well. It's my favorite part of their pizza. The sauce and cheese was good as well. Service was fast and polite during checkout. The restaurant was busy around prime lunch hours. Parking can be a hassle at times. Pizza by Pappas is a good choice for quick personal pizzas in Scranton. read more

Seriously, I order Tuna Hoagies at pretty much anywhere that serves them. And I have to say, PIzza by Pappas has the best Tuna Hoagie I have ever had anywhere. Also, their fries are outstanding. The staff is very, very nice as well. The atmosphere is great with the little train riding around the restaurant. The only knock on this place is if you go during the day, there's a lot of weirdos that hang around. Sometimes they sit down and don't order anything but stare at everyone! Kinda weird, but there's tons of weirdos in downtown scranton! Overall this place gets a 5 out of 5 for food, 5 out of 5 for service and a 2 out of 5 for atmosphere, just cause of the crazies! Went here for lunch. There menu is limited so I ordered the twelve piece hot wings. I was assured these would be hot since the wings I got last night at Molly Brannigans were sub par. What I got was a plate of fried wings that were barely seasoned. I ate 4 and threw the rest away. read more

If you are looking for something different that Old Forge or NY style pizza. Pappa's is the place. Their pies look small but they are filling. I recommend a pie with pepperoni and bacon. I can't speak much to the rest of their menu, but when I get pizza, I'm not disappointed. It's a bit greasy, but that's all good to me. It's quick to call for a to go order and not a long wait if you order there. I wouldn't get Pappa's all the time, but it's a nice change of pace. read more

Its your basic pizzeria. As far as downtown eats go, choices are limited and this is always on the list for me. The pizza is not my favorite in any category. The pies are small, greasy and the taste is as such. But the people of Scranton love it, I do not know why but they do so if it tastes good to you I say eat it. They do offer a variety of choices when you make your way out of the pizza oven. There is an entire list of ways to make french fries more and more self destructing and they even offer the polish delight of pierogies. I have their boneless wings on occasion but can not seem to stray too far from the chicken salad grinder...I am a push over for cranberries though. read more

I've never actually been here, but I have had their food a few times. My mom works by it and brought me home the pizza, it's hit and miss at best. It's a chewy crust with OK sauce and actually very good cheese. The subs are good I guess, but nothing to go into great detail about. The pizza is VERY greasy and you almost have to dab it off with a napkin to make it edible. Some decent cheap pizza though, certainly. Maybe I'm just spoiled growing up in by Sabitinis and Pizza Loven and everywhere in Old Forge, but al in all, it's just OK. read more

I can remember being a kid there waiting to hear our number and subsequently feast on peppers and onions Personal pan pizza served hot fresh and delicious and in styrophome trays with little plastic tables that severed well to chide old imagination. Excellent pizza, cooked in an inch-deep oiled pan, resulting in a somewhat fried dough bottom with delicious burned cheese bits around the edges. A hungry teen could easily eat a whole pie. I have never seen pizza quite like this anywhere. My wife and I particularly like extra cheese and onion as toppings. Kids like plain. Pappas also offers a variety of grinders (hoagies), fries, and dynabites. The hot wing grinder had more kick than my son liked, so it must have been quite hot (he said the flavor was great but to ask for mild spice next time). They used to have an awesome cheese sauce to go with the fries, but something happened with the supplier and the stuff they have now is mediocre at best (the always-friendly staff said they were hoping to fix that). They have ample seating and an efficient system where you place your order/pay up front and they call your number when it's ready. You then drop your tray and trash on the way out.
