Great sandwiches, polite and easy going staff, comfortable seating in the back! Highly recommended!

Our family tracked to Scranton for a basketball game @ Marywood. We targeted Dutchies on the recommendation of a Scranton native. The format was unusual in that it appeared to be a carry out place- but with a dining room attached. You order & pay- then go sit and wait for your meal to be served. The dining room is more comfortable than a typical pizza place with a family warmth. Our crew ordered chicken soup, burgers, pizza and a sub to go for out basketball player. We selected their "Old Forge" style pizza- iconic to the region. It didn't disappoint. The crust was light & crispy, the sauce in the sweet side and the blend of cheeses (including American cheese which is the hallmark, I'm told, of the style). It was delicious. I am a pizza 'freak'. I've enjoyed pizza from iconic restaurants in Naples, Rome, Chicago, New York, California, Detroit and now...Scranton! The burger people praised their 8oz. Burgers. The diner that enjoyed chicken soup (an accomplished cook) had high praise for the home made flavor and textures. When you add that we were treated like family members of this family owned establishment, our experience was exceptional. My only "complaints" are that: the check was far less than expected and (more of an opportunity than a complaint) I would have spent $$ for a nice red wine to complement my meal. read more

My husband and I were traveling to Kalahari Resort for our four year wedding anniversary this week. When we hit Scranton, he asked me to look for food options in the area. I saw this place, but it was in the opposite direction and he was heading on. I over ruled his decision and said we should go back and give the place a try. I was hungry. Carrie greeted us when we came in. Upon arrival you don't see the seating in the back it was pointed out to us, and VERY COZY! We ordered the crab bisque, the Cuban sandwich and the smash burger. This place did NOT disappoint! The crab bisque.... Oh my heaven, I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life! I shared it with my husband and it was just so good there are just no words. We destroyed it in minutes. When our sandwiches came out, hot and fresh, we dove right in. Mine was the Cuban: ham, pork, pickle, Swiss, and mustard..... sooooo much flavor! My husband's tasted like a chef style Big Mac, right down to the secret sauce! We both recommend this place. Thank you Carrie and her husband who we saw briefly. Please keep doing what you are doing! Only our 2nd time at Dutchie's since it's opening after our life long favorite, Brunetti's closed their doors at this location. My wife & I enjoyed ordering our lunch at the counter, and having it delivered to their STILL available back room room dining room area. Was worried the dining room may not not reopen after Dutchie's remodel! We both had the crab bisque soup, then the smash burger hoagie complete w/ secret sauce and the roast pork hoagie with broccoli rabe. On my 1st visit I had their Hawaiian Cheesesteak with Kimchi slaw & Kimchi mayo. All very good! Work it into your regular rotation or try it out if you're in town for a visit! read more

This place is amazing if you are a sandwich connoisseur like myself! I order the Italian with mayo and I immediately called every other sandwich place I had ever been to to let them know that they failed me and to be expecting a lawsuit heading their way because compared to this place those other guys are serving you dog$hit inside some bread. The bread was perfect light and fluffy inside and crunchy on the outside, the meat to bread and veggie ratio was as if the sandwich gods personally came down and gave them forbidden knowledge of how to make the perfect sandwiches. Subway? More like make your way down to Dutchie's and bless your taste buds with their food. Do yourself a favor and take my advice, trust me.
