Here in Princeton if someone has an accent people immediately rate them low or discriminate, so I rarely believe any of the snotty messages. Happened to run across this place on here and had to stop in because my girlfriend is the judge of all things pizza. So we stopped in and my first thought was how cozy the place was. Not lots of room maybe 3 or 4 small tables. But boy what they lack in size they make up in pizza. Originally from north jersey you can never quite find a pizza as good as home. But wow this place has one amazing pizza. The sauce to cheese ratio is amazing and they had some weird honey jars with buffalo flavor and bbq flavor that you can buy to dip your pizza crusts in. I had a similar experience to the poster who went through the chronology of different pizza places in this location. When this was "Slice Between", the pizza had a light fresh mozzarella topping, it reminded me a little of Patsy's in NYC if you've gone there. With the change in name, they went to more of a flat cheese across the whole pie. Absolutely fine, nothing wrong with it, just not that different from other Pizzerias, and personally I preferred the old style. If I could give it a 3.5 I would - I'm sure many people will be happy with the pizza here. read more

Great pizza at a great price! Ordered the Brooklyn pie (personal size) for lunch and was not disappointed. Really appreciate the fresh-baked-ness + brick oven quality of their pizzas; the dough was a good blend of chewy and crispy, the tomato sauce was fresh and tangy; the whole pizza was very satisfying and definitely satisfied my cravings. Beyond the food, I also really liked the aesthetics of the interior -- such cute decor! Docking a star though because I did think the mozzarella was a bit too chewy/tough for my liking; I wish they sliced it a bit thinner for improvement in taste and ease of physically eating the pie. I have been a regular customer at the location that is now called Pizza Den for about 15 years. Over that span, I've gone hundreds of times to what I've considered my favorite by the slice Pizza in the Northeast. At its peak quality, this place was called Old World Pizza. This brick oven style pizza was so good that whenever my extended family visited Princeton, they would order at least six pies to take back to New York City. Then, there was a change in ownership and the place became Slice Between. While the new pizza recipe was marginally worse (the sauce got a bit sweeter), Slice Between was still far and away the best Pizza in town with its quality toppings (like the fresh mozzarella) and its excellent brick oven crust. I was worried when I heard that Slice Between was closing down, but the owner (one of the three brothers who also own Hoagie Haven) assured me that while the decor would be drastically changed, the pizza would only be slightly modified. Nope! It's very different, and I'm disappointed that they've decided to decrease the quality of ingredients just because they felt like they weren't making enough money. The main difference is the cheese. Back when it was still Slice Between, the slice was covered with blotches of delicious, thin fresh mozzarella. However, once in a while they ran out and would be selling slices with lower quality mozzarella that covered the entire slice and was noticeably less flavorful (they often sold these slices for cheaper). Now at Pizza Den, every pizza is covered with the lower quality Mozzarella that they used to only use as a reserve. It's possible that I'm wrong and this isn't precisely the cheese they used as a reserve, but there's no doubt that it's noticeably lower quality. They've also doubled the amount of cheese on each slice, and completely thrown off the cheese to sauce ratio that made them special. The pizza is now swamped in a degraded Mozzarella. I'm sure a lot of people might like this change, as the pizza here is now closer to a standard slice of New York pizza, but it's undoubtedly worse. Pizza Den has traded cheese quality for quantity, probably because that strategy works for every other average Pizzeria in town. They've also taken away the previous Pepperoni, which I considered to be the best part of Old World/Slice Between. The old Pepperoni was rounded into half of a sphere, unlike the typically flat ones, and bursted with flavor and smokiness. Now, they use the standard Pepperoni which are fine, but average and milder in taste. I know that they've deliberately decreased the quality of Pepperoni, which some may have found "funny looking", because just like with the cheese, they would occasionally be out of the good stuff, and tell me that they were using these other pepperonis out of necessity for the day. Just like with the cheese, the old replacements have become the standard here at Pizza Den. The renovations look very upscale and clean, but the pizza isn't the same. This isn't to say the pizza isn't decent, but it's no longer great. I spent years insisting to everyone that we go to Old World/Slice Between over other Pizzerias in Princeton like Massimos, Pizza Star, Princeton Pi, and Contes. At this point, I'm disappointed to admit that Pizza Star may be the best by the slice option in Princeton, but even then it's only fine. If you want Pizza around Princeton, I recommend restaraunts like Nomad Pizza or Osteria Procaccini instead. Both are still fantastic, albeit more formal options. read more

Stopped by just now for a lunch slice. Guys were nice, pizza came out quick and was delicious. Straddles the line between gourmet and traditional Jersey pizza. Paid $3.20 for a big slice of sausage. So probably not an everyday purchase but definitely worth as an occasional treat. Overall, just as good or better than Slice Between, which used to be here. According to the guy behind the counter, it's under completely new management and new staff, and the interior got a nice new update as well. read more

Pizza Den is similar to Pizza Hut but with a Princeton price premium. Delivery service was fair - polite, but took 40 minutes to deliver and arrived lukewarm. Ordered the Brooklyn Pie. Crust was chewy as if the pie was microwaved. Disks of mozzarella were rubbery either due to being cut too thick or from the use of cheap mozzarella. Tomato sauce was acceptable. If you want real NJ pizza (thin crust with a bit of crunch, garlicky sauce, creamy and sticky, but not rubbery mozzarella), go somewhere else. read more

I've been living in/around Princeton town for almost 20 years, and can easily say this is the best pizza in town, now or ever in my experience. Seriously, it's not even close. LOVE LOVE LOVE THE PIZZA DEN! I noticed a new pizza shop located next to Hoagie Haven in Princeton, NJ. The big windows and beautiful door caught my attention. I went inside and was blown away! The decor is beautiful!! I had to try the pizza, so I ordered a freshly made Brooklyn pie with a Caesar Salad and OMG!!! The pizza is AMAZING!! The secret is in the sauce!! All of the ingredients in the salad were so fresh! I Love this place! The service was IMPECCABLE! I think this will be my new weekly "treat myself" meal. DO NOT SKIP DESSERT!!! MAGNIFICENT!! When I saw how much thought and effort went into the design and decor, I figured that the details in the pizza must have been given the same TLC and attention, and I was absolutely right! I have had great pizza in different places in Europe, West Africa, NYC and throughout the US (including 16 years worth of various pizza options in the Princeton area) and this one definitely goes on my top 3 all time favorites list. My other favorites are way too far to enjoy on a frequent basis (Ghana topped the list!), so I am excited about having a local option that my whole family is in love with! They were also allergy friendly and had pizza options that could accommodate our corn allergy/sensitivity. They were knowledgeable and accommodating in regard to my allergy questions and concerns, which is a rare find for pizza shops. The owner was personable, welcoming and hands on and the staff seemed to be as well! And most importantly, the pizza was amazing! read more
