Has always been my favorite pizza- anywhere. Lately, the dough is different. My white pizza slice was soggy with oil, and my favorite part, the crust, didn't have the usual chewy yeasty taste. We ordered two slices of the Brooklyn and they were very dark brown and tasted rancid. We usually go once a week and there has been a big decline over the last year. Ok, updated review. Last I wrote was about 3 years ago. I complained that a large pie with 1/2 and 1/2 was now $27 bucks. My issue now is that it has shrunk. A large is considered 16", down from 18". A plain large pie came out to be 22.50 i think? The crust and under carriage seem a little thicker and chewier but i think it tasted how I remember. When i went in on a Friday night, there wasn't anyone there and there were no pizza's on top of the oven. They had cleared out a number of the tables in the dining area but no one was eating there. It was a little odd. Hope they're going to be ok. positive side - sauce remains consistent and taste has endured time. Sweet and a little heavy on oregano. read more

We discovered a tasty refuge after refusing a 90 minute wait at Conte's. This is a classic off the beaten track formica and linoleum mid-century pizza joint offering old school neapolitan pies and slices with a virtually limitless combination of toppings (including Nutella... no thank you.) Oh yeah, the pie was terrific as was the Cherry Coke. A very welcome throwback to the unadorned florescent-heavy pizza palaces of my youth where the only thing that mattered was the pie. Ever since management changed hands a little over a year ago, the overall food quality has become significantly worse. As somebody who grew up with the original Nino's Pizza Star, it's a travesty to see how much the food as well as the restaurants atmosphere has changed for the worse. People used to eat at the old pizza star for its unhealthy greasy food and its cozy vibe (albeit not always the cleanest looking) and not for an upscale dining experience. There are a million high end places to eat in Princeton but not nearly enough places like the old Pizza Star. read more

pizza star recently changed hands this year. When the previous owner Nino was there, the pie was the best in the area. Ordered last night and it was horrible. First of all, you could not taste the sausage. It was dry and the way it looked, it was embarasing for me to serve to my guests......color was dark brown with only a few specks of tomato sauce. The brocolli and cheese slices were also dry and made with red sauce, despite instructions otherwise. Cost was very expensive. We've only gotten the pizza at Nino's. The Brooklyn Pie is really great and huge! It's a square pie that has a super crispy, olive oil, crust. The cheese is plentiful and the sauce is delicious. The other pie we love is a broccoli pizza (no red sauce) with mozzarella, olive oil, and garlic. So good! Toppings are plentiful. read more

I don't know why this place isn't five stars. Step inside and you're magically transported to Brooklyn. They're pizza is a classic style, and very good. Nice crust, well made pies, excellent mozzarella sticks, and good wings. It's classic Jersey service and NY style pizza. You're not going to find arugula on your pizza or shitake mushroom, nor are you going to get white glove service. This might rub some Princeton folks the wrong way. But Nino is a really friendly guy past his tough exterior, and the food is great. read more

I have been going here for almost 7 years. My family went here almost every Friday and the pizza never disappoints. The food is delicious I normally get the buffalo chicken and it has been my favorite since childhood. The service is always great and never gave me a hard time. I always loved the feel of the place since they have painted its looked good but I still loved the old one too. Even though I moved I still love their pizza and look forward to it every time I visit. read more

Located in the Princeton shopping Center. There is plenty of parking and free. I wasn't that impressed and thought of this place as just another pizza parlor. We walked in at 9pm and they close at 10:00, but all the chairs were on the tables and we had no place to eat and they certainly didn't make any effort to allow us to eat there. Not even asking if we wanted to stay or go we received our order to go, and we wound up eating in the car . The food was mediocre, lots of the pies, for slices, seemed to have been sitting out for a while. If you're looking for a BIG slice of pizza then stop on here, but if your looking for a good pie, pass this place up. read more

Asked for light cheese and was told by "the pizza man" that if I wanted less than this that I should have asked for "very very little cheese". Quite rude, bad service, bad pizza. I've been coming every so often for many years but this is the last time I'll be eating here. Super disappointed and won't be coming back. Great food, but absolutely my last time eating here. I have tried to understand the owner having a bad day because his attitude SUCKS unless he knows you personally, apparently then you get a tour of the kitchen. But the prices are high, which would be fine if the owner didn't treat you every time you walk in like you are bothering him to make anything other than the pizza that's already made. Not friendly at all and always looks angry and very defensive of his prices. This time absolutely ended me coming back here because on top of the attitude, they used less chicken in my sandwich than ever before and between that and the attitude it's not worth my time. I used to drive over 40 minutes to get here because the food is so good and I've even complimented them several times on that, which doesn't seem to be remembered. I HOPE that you learn to put your attitude away and treat future customers nicer or good food won't matter at all. Millennials will tear you apart with that attitude. AWFUL! I went to get some lunch earlier today with my friends and had the WORST experience. The owner is a surly, rude individual who has no sense of service whatsoever. He yells at customers, period! The food was thrashed out at the counter in the most ham-handed, crude manner and when one of customers asked for their glass of water to not be iced, they were curtly refused and ordered to drink the iced water instead. It was truly SHOCKING to witness. The vegetarian pizza also had tiny pieces of sausage which is very disappointing. Will NEVER go back again! read more

There was a piece of metal wire in my slice of pizza. Photo is attached. My lab has gotten pizza here most weeks since Old World turned into Slice Between and became vile. This place never seemed much better, though, and I often just skipped the lab dinner for something better at home. I was used to the greasy, flavorless hunks of stale bread that they sent our way each week, but I was shocked to find a 2" fragment of copper bristle right in my food. Even for a low-class establishment like this, I have at least a baseline expectation of personal safety. read more

Always waits 1hr for food; Owner does not have basic communication skills or customer service; he was very rude and nasty! They are false advertising their prices on their menus; when you call to have your order delivered they up all the prices 1 dollar for each item you order and doesn't make the customer aware of this. For traditional, NY style pizza, you really can't beat it in the area. The crust is he best part, some of the best anywhere. And they use fresh ingredients as well. Doesn't taste canned. Some complain about the price, but to that I would point out, the size of the slices are ridiculously large. One slice here is about 2 at your average pizzeria. We stopped here because it was the only place open for lunch at the Princeton Shopping Center on a Sunday after stopping at Ace for washers to fix the sink and shower. As already stated, it's your typical take-away pizza place with huge, greasy slices. There is seating for at least 60+ people here. We ordered a large cheese pizza and a side of meatballs. The meatballs were in a sweet tomato sauce. Nothing special, a bit pricey ($5.75) for what it was. We were happy for the jars of parmesan, black & crushed red pepper, granulated garlic, and oregano. About 20 minutes later, our pizza was done. The crust is very good. Crispy in the middle and on the outer edges. A little doughy towards the outside. I ate most of 3 slices. The sauce was a little bland, but the crust made it better. After about 5-10 minutes, the crispness turned to a mushier consistency. It's not the super-greasy pizza I remember as a kid, or the charred chewy type from John's in Manhattan, or the charred crisp type we had from Nino's in Brooklyn--it was somewhat in-between all of those, thicker, with a slightly fried bottom. Dough could be purchased for $3.50, so we plan to be back to pick some to make a pie at home. $19 for 2 for a hearty lunch. Signs on the windows and at the cash register claim that cards are accepted, but we stopped at the ATM just outside the door, just in case. There's an enormous menu of pastas, salads, hot and cold sandwiches, red as well as white pizzas, and soft serve ice cream. Service was pleasant and prompt. Closer to a 2.5, but the crust was good, so I bounced it up. Update 9/20/09: we bought some of the dough which I had remembered as good. Well, it was okay in our own oven. Too chewy. It might be better made into rolls, but not as good as I remembered. All things considered, I thought my taste buds would be more accepting of things as time went on instead of more bitchy. Alas, that's what I have to report. Nice staff, however, so I won't ding them further. read more

Everything I have tried at Pizza Star is excellent. The salads are generous & very, very fresh - top ingredients. The pesto and bruschetta are tops. My favorite pizza is the ricotta/pesto, but also the "artisan" pies, such as in the picture -- yes, that is a pizza, not a salad! It was succulent. I had a bowl of chicken soup there once that tasted like it came from the hearth of a Tuscan "Nona". Interactions with the owner (at least a dozen times) have been positive - he's all heart. read more

I ordered 3 pies to go on Sunday and it was the worst pizza ever! Paid about 70 dollars too for a pepperoni, plain and one margharita. The crust is thick and doughy. The margarita pie was disgusting! I had huge tomato slices and the water from the tomato made the whole pie so wet and everything fell off the pizza slice when I went to eat it. The tiramisu is amazing. Light, pillowy texture with the perfect ratio of chocolate and ladyfingers. I ordered the prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula pizza and it was pretty great. The crust was nicely chewy and salty and not too thick. The prosciutto was not the best quality and subsequent pizzas were not quite as good as the first but still better than other pizza I've tried in the area so far. read more

I always order the Rigatoni Vodka - it's delicious and only $14 for a huge takeout container! Pizza is equally delicious. Highly recommend!
