Not sure why this place has such great reviews. I used to frequently order from here cause its one of the few places open at 3am. But the foods sub par. Costs twice what it should be. And the service here sucks. I ordered a pizza from here a while back. And after waiting 45 min, called them only to find out that they had forgotten about it. Pizza House was the first restaurant I ever fell in love with; it was a teenage love-affair that never quite ended. My friends and I used to come and sit upstairs in the summertime, with the windows open, and people watch. It was, and still is, a favorite pastime. The restaurant itself has expanded over the years but it still proves to be a busy place, always crowded, which is a testament to just how good it is! Sure it is a bit pricey...but this is Ann Arbor, after all. This restaurant is nice, clean, and right in a hopping part of downtown. Then, there is the food, which totally speaks for itself (and is worth every penny). Pizza House has the most wonderful authentic Chicago stuffed pizza outside of Chicago that I have ever tried (and I fancy myself a Chicago stuffed pizza expert!)...appropriately doughy, never greasy, and an absolutely perfect ratio of cheese to sauce. I would write decent comments about Pizza House, but tonight was just too terrible of an experience to even give them a decent rating. All I have to say is that, the so called "owner of the restaurant", a blonde girl who looked like she was in her early twenties, attempted to kick me and my friends out after he tried to ask her how he could tip the waitress. It's surprising, because my friend tried to tip the waitress after she yelled at him for being ignorant and foolish. All he wanted to do was tip her because she was having a bad day. You would think that a place that's so-called a popular place in Ann Arbor would have decent service towards guests. One small anecdote epitomizes my experience with this restaurant. I went here with my girlfriend, who ordered a "mocha" with her meal. She said it tasted awful and complained to the server. The server apologized and added, "Yeah, we get a lot of complaints about it. It's just regular coffee and hot chocolate mixed together. I won't charge you for it." If you're not willing to make something the right way and label it accurately, and if your customers regularly complain about it, why do you keep serving it? I can only conclude that they have contempt for their customers. And this conclusion is confirmed by the taste of their pizza. In the words of Kevin Malone, "it's a hot circle of garbage." Admittedly, I don't like Midwestern style pizza, generally, and certainly not Chicago-style, but this is on the lower end of quality for those categories. If you stick with something like a hamburger, the food is edible. And if you're dying to watch a UM coach's radio show or bask in the Wolverine-centric atmosphere, you can survive here. But if you want good food, there are so many places that are better. read more

Let's just hit the highlights, shall we? 1. It's open until 4 a.m. They DELIVER until 4 a.m. This means you can stumble home from the bar when it closes at 2 and have ample time to order the best drunk food you can imagine AND THEN HAVE IT SHOW UP AT YOUR HOUSE. 2. The breadsticks. Oh dear God, order the breadsticks. Get them with ranch dressing. Vow you'll just eat one or two, then feel sick and ashamed when you realize you've eaten the entire order all by your lonesome. But then you will feel a calming sense of peace because those were the best freaking breadsticks you've ever eaten and it was right and good that they became one with your digestive tract. 3. The Italian Meats pizza. This is an unholy amalgam of a countless number of meats. It is as delicious as you would expect, and nothing does a better job soaking up the beer in your belly. If you let some of the ranch from your breadsticks accidentally get on your slice of Italian Meats pizza, I am not to blame for your subsequent rapture and ascendance to a better place. 4. Are you a grad student? Then you probably already know about the cheap and delicious lunch specials. If you didn't know about it, you should consider this one of the most important lessons you'll learn as you earn your degree. The breadsticks are available as part of the lunch special. OK. Here's the thing: I pretty much never do this, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Guys, your driver(s) are awful. I just moved to A2 at the beginning of the semester and have already witnessed your Pizza House delivery vehicle speeding, not slowing down for pedestrians, and yeah, it does not make me want to eat your pizza. Whoever is driving needs to chill. Also, the photos from the 7/6/2014 reviews remind me of 1987 Predator. Prices have skyrocketed here recently, with no increase in quantity or quality. An original Chipati now costs $13, and good luck ordering a decent sized pizza for under $20. I recently went here with friends late at night. Not feeling too hungry, I ordered one 16oz pint of Bell's Brown and a side order of chipati bread. How much could a few slices of pita bread cost? Well, at Pizza House, they cost $7.49. Including tip, I paid $17 for a beer and five small slices of pita bread. I don't think anything else really needs to be said. read more

My most recent experience at Pizza House was terrible. My previous experiences at Pizza House were less than terrible, but nothing notable. Yes, they have gluten-free pizza: a bonus. I've had it once, and it was OK (kind of chewy/soggy). But, my most recent visit, I wanted a salad (literally the ONLY food item you can order off the enormous, novel-of-a-menu that is GF). I ordered the Antipasto Salad - a 'lunch-size,' which I expected to be big since Pizza House's portions have been [for the most part] generous. First of all, my salad came out last at a table with 8 people who ordered sandwiches & the works. This was strange considering that several of the people who were served before me had showed up after I ordered my food...but whatever...wasn't sweating it. My second criticism is that the portion was TINY. I literally ate the thing in 5 bites. And how much did it cost? $9.49 (before tax & tip). I would honestly rather throw my $10 out the window of my car before buying something so unfairly priced like this again. Although I might seem biased because of my food allergy, I did make sure to get everyone else's opinions at the table. One person said the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich was awful, and others just agreed that the food was not the best 'bang for your buck.' Why did I give Pizza House 2 stars instead of just 1? The service was 2-star worthy - the girl was able to split our check easily and what not without a hassle. Also, my strawberry milkshake was delicious. I'll conclude with saying that I'm really disappointed with how much Pizza House sucked on my most recent visit. I've lived in Ann Arbor my whole life. On those occasions I want to go out for pizza rather than ordering in, Pizza House is the only place I consider! It's got very convenient hours and has really nice ambience inside. The pizza crust is slightly sweet, and the tomato sauce has a tangy sweet-herbed flavor which I haven't tasted anywhere else. The cheese:sauce ratio is ideal for me, about 60:40. My fave is the traditional crust with sausage, mushrooms and green peppers. My boyfriend has lived in NYC for 3 years and Pizza House is still his favorite. I'm shocked at the reviewers who didn't like the pizza here! No, it's not the floppy greasy kind that you eat off a paper plate for $2 a slice after you've been drinking all night. 2 stars for the late hours and the friendly service. Zero stars for the food. This averages out to 1 star. I ordered the personal, thin-crust pizza with sausage -- it was way too salty, had thick dough, and generally tasted like the stuff they serve from under a heat lamp -- maybe a little better. I also asked for buffalo wings, and they said that they stopped making those, and offered me BBQ or teriyaki wings instead. I decided to get the teriyaki wings, and the waiter asked me if I wanted ranch or blue cheese dressing with that. I looked him in the eye and asked, "With teriyaki sauce?" He got the picture and brought me those teriyaki wings without the sauce (although they still had celery on the side, which tasted weird with the teriyaki sauce). Yes, this is a cool college hangout in Ann Arbor. Super late hours and a menu that has everything is an obvious appeal to the college crowd. I caution you that this place is not for the college budget. The prices are CRAZY expensive! A large (10 slices) speciality pizza is almost $28! And the high prices go for all items on the menu. The food is OK but does not warrant the high prices. The service is also questionable. More times than not, our table is forgotten about. Drinks go empty, missing silverware, etc. Also good luck if you want to split the bill. They are going to give you a pen and tell you to figure it out yourself. read more

When I was 18, deciding which school to go to, I made a pro/cons list for each school. On my pro list for Michigan was Pizza House, and it may as well been the reason that I went to Michigan. This place was amazing to me for my four years at Michigan. I was back in Ann Arbor for Homecoming weekend and went to Pizza House twice in two days! I only wish that they had Chipati's every where else in the world. The chipati's bread, ingredients, sauce are all delicious. The steak fries are phenomenal as well! I actually stay away from cheese and dairy products, but despite the name of Pizza House they have so many options that are cheeseless. If in Ann Arbor, you definitely need to come here for lunch/dinner/late night snack. I only wish they delivered to Denver until 4 am. read more

I want to say this place is hit or miss, and although each of my 4 visits have been hits, I've seen some misses with my friends. I have never been here during the post-bar busyness. I wonder if the experience is better when you walk in saturated with alcohol. What I enjoy most is the atmosphere. Although it's on campus, it doesn't look or feel like a college place. Nice dark wood, cozy fireplace, and full bar. The menu is intimidating as it goes on and on. But I've ordered pizzas, sandwiches, and pasta and I have no complaints. Does anything blow me away? Not necessarily but it's good enough that I keep coming back. Plus they have really good mints at the end. There is a server named Herb who I could sit there and talk about my personal life with. He's so friendly and personable. Way better then some experiences I've had at high end restaurants. This place was downright amazing! We came in on a Friday night, super late though so we didn't have too much issue with waiting. We were quickly greeted and sat outside, provided with waters and friendly service right away. As we looked over the menu, we were a little overwhelmed with so many choices, but knew why we came, as we wanted the deep dish stuffed Chicago-style pizza. We decided to order an appetizer, a salad, and pizza, all of which we were very happy with. We decided to go with a bruschetta for an appetizer, the bagguette was crispy, toasted, and had the chewy hard outside that I love. The bruschetta toppings were fresh, tomatoes that were juicy and onions that had a perfect acidic balance. On top of that was a fresh mozzarella, nothing that reminded me of the gross stringy stuff that comes out of a bag. Over the top they drizzle balsamic vinegar and olive oil, I could have eaten just that for my meal! Next game the salad and we decided to split a house salad, with honey mustard on the side. It was your typical house salad, nothing exceptional, except for the fact that was a very large salad! As if we weren't pretty much full already, next game the Chicago stuffed pizza. We also got the house special for that, and it truly was a stuffed, stuffed pizza. I was only able to eat one piece, but that one piece was exceptional. The crust despite being jammed full with sauce and cheese and toppings, maintained crisppiness and stayed dry. It was flaky, complementing the moist and flavorful toppings, or do I say innings, that made everything blend well. The sauce was tangy and fresh, not your run-of-the-mill jar stuff. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, only enhanced by the good service. You can say I'm a fan, I'm not sure this is my everyday lazy I just want pizza place, but somewhere where I will go for a truly exceptional pizza. read more

Ok, I've eaten at Pizza House & ordered the chicago stuffed crust pizza. It was really good. We might go back for the Stuffed pizza which seems to be a good value. But I just ordered delivery from them of a 3 topping Large thin crust pizza & I am not impressed. First - its not large, its medium sized at most, with tiny slices. Second, its very very dry. Like it was made & then sat for a long time before it was delivered. ir just overcooked. Third, this small, not good pizza came to a total of $28! so with tip, we spent $32 on 1 tiny to be totally frank not good pizza. I called the location to express my concerns (especially after I saw on their site that they offer 2 3 topping pizzas for $24.99!), and the manager simply told me they had pricey pizza, and you should ask for deals before you order. My partner and I came here with a large group of her family. As we were waiting of the group to show up, we sat at the bar and ordered a beer. Two Blue Moons, one small glass, one large glass which added up to 16 dollars. Yes, 16 dollars for two beers. If that didn't put a bad taste in my mouth, the fruit flies buzzing around my glass did. Once the group arrived, we sat upstairs and the head of the group ordered breadsticks (so lackluster), two entree sized salads (antipasto and Michigan cherry, also lackluster) and three pizzas (pepperoni with mushroom, southwestern chicken, and veggie, which were nothing to write home about). Dude I really don't know...I've only eaten inside here once, the service was decent and efficient enough, but they never gave us a pen to sign the receipt at the end. One of our dining companions had to swipe one from the podium.... The deep dish pizza was satisfying, was warm and delectable to me. I don't think it was all that authentic for Chicago style but as a standalone pizza, I approve. Five of us were able to share two of these large pizzas. Cheese bread was decent. However, one of our group members ordered fettucine alfredo and he hated it. I've ordered delivery lots of times from here, the delivery people are never very polite. But whatever, they have good late night delivery deals, like two hot dogs and fries with two drinks, etc. The hot dogs aren't bad, fries need work because they are limp in my opinion, the seasoning is good though. The salmon is dry and under seasoned. Their shakes are fairly energizing. Spaghetti and meatballs is ok. But, when you order pizza [regular pizza, not their deep dish], it tends to coagulate overnight and turn into a revolting glassy, too solidified cheesy texture overnight. The cheese becomes almost impossible to tear through with your teeth. Keep this in mind. Also, they advertise the fact that they deliver beer, but in actuality, they don't deliver to any residence [house or apartment or trailer home or cave] that is remotely close to the university campus. I understand if you don't want to deliver alcohol due to legal reasons, just don't give us false advertising. Specify your neighborhood limits on the brochure. Ok, I was taking my son to UMICH for orientation and the hotel recommended this location for pizza. It was fabulous!! Real Chicago style pizza in a very inviting atmosphere. I am sure it gets packed on big days in Ann Arbor but the day we were there we had plenty of room, it had just the right volume level, the waiter was superb and fast and the pizza was incredible. We did get the Chicago stuffed pizza so it takes a while to cook. That is not a function of the restaurant but it is true of any place that serves this type of pizza. By the way, the deliver beer and pizza to your door!! I did not give it 5 stars because it is not as good as Giordinos or East Side Ginos in Chicago but then again, nothing is. Outside of Chicago, go to Pizza House and you will not be disappointed. I will be back again I can guarantee that. read more

I've been here many, many, many times! This has become my go to place in Ann Arbor, simply because it's large enough that there is never any waiting. The pizza (and cheese bread) is the best. The rest of the menu is subpar in my opinion. The burgers are expensive for what you get and the rest of the menu is "meh." My biggest complaint is the prices. I've left here wondering what happened to my wallet... the prices are a bit steep for what you actually get. The service is always hit or miss too. Many times I've had great service, and still other times the service has been poor at best. As an example, I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich. It was terrible. When the waiter asked how my sandwich was I said, "terrible." He laughed and said "that sucks" and walked away. Once I received my salad after my meal had arrived. They're open til four, AND they deliver (which is a huge, huge plus for late-night stops). Plus, it can be really entertaining. Last time I was there I saw a drunk girl fall down the stairs. So, this is my favorite pizza place. I've eaten pizza in Chicago, L.A., New York, St. Louis, and of course all around Michigan. I prefer their regular Deep Dish (not the Chicago deep dish). The crust is flavorful, and the sauce is spicy and not super-sweet. The ingredients are generous and look really luscious - large chunks of sausage and pepperoni. Though I didn't get it this time around, I adore their pepperoni sticks - spiral bread sticks with pepperoni inside them and dashed with Parmesan cheese with dipping sauces. This time I got their grasshopper drink, which is like their mint Oreo milkshake, but for adults. Well, kind-of adults. ;) It was so good, I had to keep reminding myself to wait for my meal before I drained it. Their actual milkshakes are thick and generous - my favorite place to get a milkshake, too. We came here for my birthday. We came here for my Bachelor party. We came here as a goodbye lunch when I was leaving town. When I want to celebrate a special occasion... well, I want Pizza House pizza. My friends feel similarly, which is why they catered their wedding. With Pizza. They're open until 3:30, and the restaurant itself is beautiful and comfortable, especially with the brick and fireplaces. I really can't say enough about how much I enjoy coming here. read more

On the rare occasion that I must eat here, I am perfectly happy to eat a salad or a chipati. I refuse to eat any of their pizzas as I think it reminds me of pizza that I could buy from Kroger's/Meijer's freezer section. Plus, I prefer not to taint my taste buds with "Chicago style" pizza that is pretty far from the real thing. Service is generally good and quick and seating is ample. The menu rarely changes and almost everything on it is something smothered in cheese or fried or total carb overload. Sometimes you're in the mood to eat that way, and sometimes you're not but you're stuck at Pizza House for a social gathering. In that type of situation, the chipatis are a great alternative to the rest of the menu. They are pretty fresh and filling despite being mostly vegetables. Chipati sauce is tasty. Salads are pretty large. The nice thing about Pizza House, aside from being surprisingly upscale looking/feeling inside for serving such generic fare, is that it is great for large groups. I watched Pizza House grow from a tiny chipati-delivering shack, to the true Pizza Mansion that it is. Ah, a banquet of tasty chipatis, their feta-ricotta pizza (a cheesy sensation), their hot wings (Pizza House Wings with Ranch!!, always with capital letters), their steak fries with cheese and bacon (you need to specially request it), their veggie sub with a side of ranch, and their fried ravioli - these have sustained me through late nights, and I'm sure I've eaten there more times than I actually remember. I love pizza and I love leftovers but my pizza from here was so gross I tossed my leftovers (half a personal pizza) in the trash shortly after leaving. And I NEVER throw away leftovers. The ambiance inside is like a Cheesecake Factory (complete with laminated menu and flatscreen tv's) and the food is like Pizza Hut. It's been quite a while since I've been to the Pizza House. We arrived and were amazed to find the crowd that was in the building. Pizza House is a rather large restaurant, but I saw very few seats that were open. We were seated and looked over the menu to find that prices have really gone up since the last time we had been here. They boast a Chicago Style stuffed pizza.. and sure enough.. it was priced just like a Chicago pizza.... high. I was disappointed in the pricing the pizza and of the appetizers. We spent almost $10 for cheesy bread sticks which is a bit much in my book. I can complain about the taste any of the food. We got the cheesy breadsticks and Sicilian style pizza and both were very good, and we brought quite a bit home. It took me a while to give this place a chance. Why? I don't know. Maybe because I associate it with college students and so I made the (very wrong) assumption that it was a dump. Sometimes I'm an idiot. Pizza house is awesome. The menu goes far beyond pizza to include delicious, juicy burgers; salads; entrees; and their famous chipatis. Personally, I don't get the whole chipati thing but who am I to disagree with every alum of UM and State (have we discovered the one thing on which they can agree?!)?? The restaurant is huge and provides a variety of seating options so whether it's a date or a group of friends you're with, there will be no issues seating you. The tables are always bussed and cleaned immediately. The staff are knowledgable about the food and very friendly - they make suggestions and have a really good sense of the food. Being a New Yorker I'm not a fan of the pizza (but it's good for the Midwest); the burgers are my go to dish. Pizza House participates in GrubHub so you can order from there using the service to rack up points. And, they deliver to Scio! read more
