Good tasting pizza, abysmal service. Came here for dinner and did not have a spectacular experience. After arriving we were seated quickly and our order was promptly taken (because we immediately stopped the waitress to put it in, we were in a hurry). After the initial interaction it was about 10 minutes before she came back out with waters and silverware... yeah, 10 minutes. Once our food came out (delivered from someone else), we never saw our waitress again. The most painful part was trying to pay... I literally left the bill/credit card at the edge of the table and just waited, waited, and waited. The food though was decent. You get free bread balls (so ask for a lot). They're good, but greasy. The pizza is solid as well, but a little pricey. A lot of pizza places have popped up in the San Diego area, so it's hard for Pizza Nova to keep up with the competition. 3.5 stars for the pizza. Overall, horrible service. Good pizza. If you need a sit down pizza place, this is an ok place to go. If you want AMAZING pizza (take out/non-sit down) go somewhere else. read more

THE GARLIC BITES! So good. They have a $15 burger and beer deal on mondays and I subbed the beer for a strawberry basil drink that was delicious! The fries were thin cut and the burger a nice medium rare. My friend got the Gorgonzola pear pizza with prosciutto which looked amazing. The pizza is big enough to share! Stopped in for the SLO Brewing Keep The Pint Night. I sat at the bar and placed my order for a beer and the happy hour Hawaiian Angus Sliders. Then I found out that Keep The Pint was being held in the upstairs terrace. But Stevie the bartender took good care of me, and went upstairs and brought me back a brewery logo glass to take home. Cool dude! The sliders were prepared nicely, which was a little surprising, since sliders can be easily overlooked. The beef patties were slightly pink inside, despite being thin. The caramelized red onion, cheddar cheese, and 1000 Island dressing, plus crushed rilled pineapple, were all flavorful additions that made it all worthwhile. And did I mention the view? Beautiful vista of the harbor. All in all, a nice visit. I'll be back to try some more of their food and drink. read more

First and last time coming to this restaurant. The lack of service was really shocking to say the least. I could've gotten up and walked out, that's how much my server (assuming it was the bartender serving us, because he was making all the mixed drinks) paid attention to my table. The food wasn't the best. When asked what we wanted to drink, we asked for the beer menu and what our options were on tap, and we were instructed to read the menu off the wall. Ridiculous to instruct people to read a wall that they have to get out of their seat to see, when this should be something the server (bartender) knows. The noodles in the Mac n cheese were dry and slightly underdone. The chicken I added on top was just as dry and flavorless. I ordered small plates cause I couldn't decide what I wanted. Let's begin. Gnocchi: I was expecting little bites of pillowy goodness. I got 3 scallop shaped pieces of gooey-ness. The wilted kale and pancetta on top it thankfully made the dish palatable. Meatballs: Basically Chef Boyarde with flair. Didn't feel authentic. "Best salad" is basically a Waldorf salad with dried cranberries in place of grapes. Meh. Staying in the Sheraton nearby, we tried to order on the website, but it wouldn't accept the order. So I just called, ordered the goat cheese pizza and the arugula & prosciutto pizza, and they said it would be ready in only 20 min! Fantastic! The pizza was excellent, I did order it well done, though it could have been a little crispier, but the crust was tasty, and there were just the right amount of toppings. It was a business trip and the receipt went missing, so I called the next day and the manager was kind enough to find it and email me a copy. Excellent service all around! This place is always on our go to list since they have a great lunch special! It is offered all week and weekend and comes with two great options for salads and Pate or pizza for the entree. The thing I love most about this spot is that they give you garlic knots when you sit at your table and the views are of the harbor. First time here at Pizza Nova and I'm giving it a full five stars. We got the Best House Salad which had a great medley of fresh summer flavors. We then got the Portobello Pancetta and Black Truffle Oil pizza which was very tasty as well. Our server, Mia recommend the Lava Cake. Food was great as usual but I'm not Sure if our waiter Stephen was new or just does not like his job, he never smiled once. When we sat down he brought some bread and disappeared for 10 minutes, I had asked for some water and lemon for my water, he never brought the lemon and brought the straws 5 minutes later. I finally had to ask someone else to call him so that we can place our order, we placed our order and when he brought the food again he went and disappeared for 10 minutes, I finally flagged him down and he just gives me the 1 minute finger, and when he walked over I asked for more bread with no oil on it.... I watched him walk around doing basic stuff, never brought the bread and then when we were almost done eating another waitress just dropped off a plate of bread FULL of oil! Its so sad because I saw a lady who seemed to be the manager walking around and she literally had a smile on her face the whole time and she was jumping from from one table to another being so helpful, Stephen should maybe walk around with her and get retrained because his level of service was HORRIBLE! read more

Came in for lunch today. Garlic knots and Cheesy bread were piping hot and so good. Both my husband and I had the pizza and salad lunch specials. Food was good (halibut). Delivery was stated to arrive in 45' but it came an hour and 10 min. No receipt with order, I don't what I was charged for dinner. No utensils nor napkins arrived with meal. My wife and I are at a hotel with no silverware. I call the hotel and ask for utensils. They never delivered them. I had to run to the bar and take two of their forks. 90+ min later, I'm finally eating... frustrating dinner experience. I should have just picked up the food myself. read more

Amazing food and quality service. We have been a fan of Pizza Nova for years. Unfortunately we ordered for delivery on Sunday night but apparently they where very busying and the driver was delayed in traffic and we didn't receive our meal for almost 2 hours. After contacting the manager Josh about the cold food and warm salad he was very apologetic and offered us a refund. Being I paid cash I needed to come in to the store to receive gift card. To our surprise our doorbell rang about ten minutes later with a delivery of beautiful desserts and a gift card for $100 and another apology. It wasn't about the refund so much as the professional and most hospital response to this unfortunate and unusual situation. The manager Josh made me feel like there are still companies that care about people and more then the bottom line. This gesture of kind professional and hospitable response went a very long way for us. Still our favorite Italian food in town. Thank You, We need more restaurant managers like Josh. read more

Had dinner at the restaurant and two days later I check my bank account to find out I was charged almost 30 dollars more on the final bill. I understand we are under a pandemic but it is just disappointing to see people take advantage of you. I would just recommend being more careful when paying with card. Zero complains about the food. I would truly love some of their garlic bread right now. If I ever go back, I will make sure to take cash. The owner reached out to me not too long after i posted this and got me in contact with the manager who helped me out. They were both very kind, polite and understanding. I was able to get a refund. It's a CA chain, but it's convenience (across the street from our hotel) won out over going somewhere I knew would be better. Plus, it's kid-friendly and on the water with a good view. All good points to bring your kid here as opposed to some other place that would be fancier and superior. This place wasn't bad, though, for what it is. Italian-American food that is approachable and familiar. It's a safe bet when you want to grab a fairly quick meal at an inexpensive price with a kid that doesn't love dining out. Grabbing a booth is always good. They have plenty here and most have a direct view of the water. They start you off with bread drenched -- drowning -- in butter. Quite good, actually. But, butter makes everything better. The kid got his standard penne pasta with butter and parmesan. He thought it was a little bland. If he says it's bland, then you know there's no salt in there. I opted for a BBQ chicken pizza, their small version is about 10 inches, I think. 6 slices. It was better than expected. There was a slight smokiness to the chicken to go along with the tanginess of the BBQ sauce. All smothered in gouda and topped with cilantro and red onions. The crust was firm but chewy. Really nice and tasty place to eat. I don't give out 5 stars easily but this place closer to 5 stars then 4. Inside was very nice and clean. They have a pretty cool view of the bay if you sit by the window. The waitress was prompt and attentive. The food was very tasty. We got cocktail, calamari as a starter and a 21" pizza. The amount of food was perfect for my wife and I. The bill was $60 before tip which is a little pricey for most pizza places, but this a spot had some high end items on the menus and the quality of food was worth spending a little extra money. read more

A server approached me and said no more service and you can take it to go, i told him that we were here on time and I didn't know that they were closing early. He then yells back to the cooks and says I tried basically for us to leave. Fast forward we had a great server but the food was tasteless and not that good to be honest compared to a place like Luce far as pizza. The manager came by and apologized but i was just over it. Myself and my 3 sisters ate lunch at Pizza Nova yesterday. Everything was very nice and food was good. Our only problem was that my oldest sister was so disappointed that her favorite dish had been removed from the menu. Thai Chicken Linguine with bean sprouts is her favorite dish and it was unavailable so she was pretty disappointed. She is hoping that it can be returned to the next menu sometime soon. read more

You had me at garlic balls. Or rolls of goodness. Or whatever that heavenly complimentary bread is called. I've got to start there. We were quite hungry when we arrived, so it was nice to receive the bread right away rather than have to wait around with our hangry children while the pizza was cooked. And they weren't just amazing because we were starved (I acknowledge that hunger is the best sauce, but even the leftovers we brought home and reheated were fantastic). Anyway, these little rolls were piping hot and rolled in some sort of garlicky rosemary oil, they had such great flavor and texture. Alright, enough about the free bread already. On to the pizzas: I got the thin crust sausage and onion pizza. Excellent flavors and good texture for a wood-fired pizza. My husband ordered the BBQ chicken pizza. The smoked gouda cheese was a nice addition. The kids got the unexciting cheese and pepperoni pizzas. I couldn't tell you how those were, but the kids didn't complain (which often means they were delightfully bland, whatevs). Our waitress was excellent. I wish I remember her name, I'd personally recognize her. She interacted with the kids at their level, was quick, friendly, and knowledgeable. The view from the dining room was very nice, although were were seated away from the window. And the great location made for a nice little walk after dinner along the harbor. This place was good but idk if I'd come back. I only stopped here because it was right across the street from my hotel. They have fire pits outside and the restaurant is right next to the marina so the ambiance seems nice. I ordered a meatball sandwich and pasta salad to go. The sandwich was good, the pasta salad tasted like olives. I don't personally like them, but if you do then it'll be right up your alley. The bartender was nice enough when she took my order. But, the amount of plastic that they gave me was unreal, plastic bag, styrofoam Togo container, plastic wrapping my sandwich, plastic cup for the pasta salad, plastic wrapped plastic utensils... ridiculous. I think it's time for places to be a little more conscious about how much plastic they're using, especially restaurants that are right on the water. read more

I want to post a review about an amazing come back, two visits ago we had a relatively bad experience. To everyone's credit, management refunded our entire order, which was not necessary, but at the same time, we were a little hesitant to place another order. The fact that they refunded our order was amazing on its own. So we tried the same order, which had a slight modification that is hard for everyone to understand, and this time they nailed it 100%. It's easy to complain about one order going the wrong way, this team at Pizza nova Point Loma does a great job at making things right and doing things right on a day-to-day basis.
