To say I was pleasantly surprised by this place would be a understatement. After a day of unpacking & cleaning we decided on some easy carry out pizza. I noticed this place on my drive home the other day when the drive through liquor place next door caught my eye (yepppp). We ordered a 14 inch pizza-half ham & green pepper & half ham & pineapple. It was so good! The cheese was perfectly melted & the crust was crisp without being overdone! The ranch was delicious (yes, I'm hoarding it to use on other stuff throughout the week). The sandwich was nearly exactly the same as it was several years ago when the place was called something else and the owner wasn't embezzling funds. It was another chicken parm sandwich, but in this version they cut the cutlet into strips and then put it into a bun. The real difference maker is that they let you add onions and peppers into the sandwich for about 79 cents. They have various lunch specials, but this sandwich wasn't included and cost about 8 bucks. Best new discovery for me this year! SO excited I found this place I had to write a review right away! Wow, where do I begin.... So, I just got done hiking at South Mountain Park and was only a little hungry as I had my usual feast at Lee's sandwiches earlier today. I was looking for a new simple slices joint on my way home. Opened my Yelp app typed 'pizza slices' and sort by rating. This place came so highly recommended I just had to try it. A small place, easy to miss it unless you know it's there. When I walked up I saw the daily specials sign and was SHOCKED! I thought I went back in time 20 years (back then I went to pizza connection in this neighborhood ...man I miss that place) 2 slices and a drink for $3.50!? American $? Wow. Hook me up and I'll take a slice home...as I wasn't that hungry...that was the plan anyway ... I was pleasantly surprised how light and thin the slices were. Pizza was so good I just had to eat the 2nd slice. I always try plain slices when I go to a new place. These were phenomenal! No grease, easy folding NY style slices at unbelievable prices! Always a good spot to pick up a NY style pizza. They have a 2 slice special with a soda for $4 and change. These guys are usually pretty quick to get a couple slices to go. However, I feel like through the past couple years the crust has become nonexistent than how it used to be. It now seems to be very crunchy and kind of hard. I was relaxing outside while our food was being made, all alone on a patio with four or five empty tables, reading my iphone when the pizza-making guy came out and chastised me: "Please take your feet off the table". I had put one leg over the corner of the steel table, my shoes never touching his table, so why in the heck would this foolish guy come and bother me? I took my leg (calf) off the table. my attitude immediately went from comfortable & relaxing to angry. The only thing they should focus on is getting, and keeping customers. I'm not one to push people around, and I hate for people to push me around, so I put my legs up across the chair. There's no way this could possibly offend anyone. Wrong. Out he came again! Holy crap. Who is this little tyrant? I think he hates customers, and probably his life. Bitterness showing on his face on his second little tirade -- "Please take your feet off the chairs", or something real close, he said --This time I defiantly left my legs comfortably across the chair and I politely replied, "What harm am I doing?" I even smiled while I asked the next great question-- "There's nobody else here, why are you giving me a hard time? Why aren't you allowing me to simply relax?, I asked back. I was upset. It was a very awkward exchange that should've never happened. I said, "I'm not taking them down". "Then you can leave!", he replied. He actually asked me to leave! If anything, my clean jeans are dirtier, and his table and chairs are cleaner than before. if you enjoy looking at partially/cooked pizzas sitting on a rack, drying out, then this is your place. wouldn't it be better if they were made closer to order? Efficiency doesn't taste good, fresh does. I understand the need for speed when you are selling lots of slices, but if someone really cared about the quality, they would simply wait until customers pulled up and then, throw in a single pizza that would be dedicated for slices, just in case that's what the customer wanted... This place is a mainstay. Quick and reliable service for pick up and for delivery. Our weekly work order has only been wrong twice in like three years, and only been soggy three times so that's a pretty good ratio. Some of my coworkers blot the oil off their pizza but others say the oil helps the crushed peppers and parmesan stick better. It was ok .. just ok. Literally nothing more to say about it. I love NY slice pizza. It's my favorite but there was absolutely nothing significant about this pizza. I just ordered one slice of Pepperoni for lunch (about $3 bucks). There is a 2 slice of cheese pizza and rink for about $4.95 I believe. The pizza was dry and greasy with very little sauce. Was in town for work and was craving some pizza and wings. Ordered three slices of cheese pizza, a 6 piece hotwings, and a drink and it came out to just over $20. Wait wasn't long and I got it to go to take back to my hotel. Pizza was nasty. Dried up and burn beyond hell though the slices were huge- two would have been plenty. I ate a few bites from two slices and threw the third slice away. Popped open the chicken wings and they looked good. Bit into the first one and the chicken was off. It was fully cooked but the taste of the actual chicken seemed off or spoiled. Didn't risk it so threw away all of the chicken too. Maybe it was because I went in 30 minutes before closing and I got that "end of day" type of food. But my pizza was definitely NY style, not very saucy or cheesy but it was a good crispy. My mozzarella sauce for my mozzarella sticks tasted like can tomato sauce. My wings tasted like old chicken (couldn't finish them) and the ranch was super watered down. If I could choose one thing I liked about my order it was the crust on my pizza. Pretty sad because I spent over $30 for these 3 items the quality wasn't a match. read more

On Sunday I had friends coming for a visit. We decided we didn't want a lot of food, wanted to keep it light. I ordered various salads and was not disappointed with any of the. Ordered the Greek, Cesar, Antipasto and Grilled chicken salad. All were EXCELLENT The lettuce was crisp and the tomatoes were fresh. They made these to order and you could tell. This has been our go to pizza place for the past 5 years. My husband is from Brooklyn so a NY style pizzeria is a must for him. We have tried many places and he says this one is the closest to back home. The crust is thin and crispy and it's not overly greasy like some pizza places. It's a small pizza spot with just a few chairs set up outside. The staff is always quick and my order has always been right. We have only tried the pizza, so can't tell you about the rest of the food. My only complaint would be their front door. When you have your hands full trying to juggle 3 xtra large pizzas you have to pull (not push) the door from the inside. Quick stop with the boys! Salad was huge and full of deli meats! And the boys loved their slices!!!

The food arrived earlier than stated but the meatballs, sauce, and garlic bread were cold. Luckily, I have a microwave in my hotel. Also, I ordered a Greek salad with extra dressing - I didn't get any dressing at all! The six small meatballs tasted like they came out of a bag from the Costco freezer and I was not impressed with the sauce. And who serves meatballs and sauce without bread?? I paid $2.50 extra for COLD, flavorless garlic bread. So, that whole meal was a dud!! The salad was very fresh (aside from the tomatoes) and it was still good even without dressing - but I bet it would have been fantastic with a little Italian!! Maybe since it's a Sunday night they didn't have their usual staff?? Or maybe they are just short-staffed like every other business. Either way, I was disappointed. I'm traveling and hoped the meal would be worth the UP-CHARGE, EXTRA DELIVERY FEE, and tip for the driver (the latter I don't mind as much!). I still remember the day I first fell in love with their pizza. It was January 2012 and I had just started training for my first job at the trampoline park next door. Since the beginning I've pretty much just ordered the Lunch Special. My order is always the same: 1 slice of cheese, 1 slice of bacon, ranch, and a drink and it comes out to about $4.50. I was devastated when they close. I know that may sound like I'm overreacting, but I'm serious. Anyone who knows me knows I love this place and I even had a few friends and family message me letting me know Mama Mia's had closed and when they announced the new opening as Pizza on 40th. Doesn't look like much when you walk past but I was sooooo!! hungry!!. I had to pop in and see what there were all about... And Man!! I'm so glad I did.. Service was incredible and the pizza is the best in Arcadia.. I've been back a few times already and have had it delivered also.. I can't get enough!! It was Friday night and we were exhausted, so we decided to call it a movie night! A movie night isn't complete without pizza, of course! Our usual go-to pizza delivery place is Rosati's but we decided to switch it up a bit! Pizza on 40th recently took over the old local neighborhood spot, Mamma Mia, so we gave it a whirl. We ordered a small pizza with mushrooms and artichoke hearts along with a Greek salad. The pizza was good, not the best that i've ever had but it did the trick. Their ranch gets 5 stars, for sure! The salad was GREAT! It was loaded with veggies and feta. I also loved the dressing that it came with. For a small pizza and Greek salad, our bill was $36 including tip & delivery. I did think that was a little steep for the amount of food that we ordered, but hey, I guess you pay for being lazy? The delivery WAS speedy though, which was a plus! A very worthy successor to the NY-style pizzeria that used to occupy this space. Prices are good, slices are huge and tasty, and they even offer gourmet toppings (sun-dried tomatoes, kalamata olives, etc.). They also have pies for people with special dietary needs: low-carb personal pie with one topping for $7.99 and gluten-free pie with one topping for $8.99; the gluten-free one is a good deal considering that gluten-free personal pies (with one topping) at other pizzerias cost between $11 and $14. And don't be confused by their logo, which says "Brick Oven Pizza on 40th". The "brick oven" is just for the name, just as you don't find a garden of olive trees in Olive Garden; the pizzas in 40th Street are baked in a regular commercial metal oven. **Updated review** I kept coming back and the place was dirtier and dirtier. Someone is parked in two spaces out front EVERY time. I called to place an order ahead of time and they told me they wouldn't take a to go order for individual slice and drink orders because it was too small an order and they were worried about no shows?that policy makes no sense. Shouldn't you be worried about big orders no showing? I asked if them if "not warming up a few slices for me before I got there" was worth my customer service experience and the review of their restaurant. The woman said there was nothing to do about the policy. Oh well. The only reason it isn't 1 star is because the pizza is pretty good for NY greasy pizza! read more

I have been ordering from here for a few years however I will NEVER go back again! The pizza is great however the people that work there are beyond rude and their customer service is the absolute worst. They are very cheap with their cheese and it is often an issue. I order a large pizza and they give you 1 cheese that is in the smallest container and only filled half way. Time and time again I ask for more and comment and they tell me a large pizza only comes with two cheeses. Well this time when I called to complain (again) because they only gave me one the girl who answered the phone put me on hold to talk to the manager and came back on the phone and said "my manager said we aren't required to give out any cheese at all". I informed them that I have never been to a pizza place where they don't give cheese. My pizza this time was also delivered cold and I live less than 5 minutes away so said something about that and she made up some story that pizzas haven't been sitting out at all and went out for delivery immediately which is not possible. After the way THE OWNER treated me today, im going to make sure everyone hows how this place truly is. Anyways, i get there - total hole in the wall, I walk in and had to wait a few minutes for the chick at the front to finish her text message before she looked up and and took my order. Anyways, before I ordered, a man walked up and grabbed a full margherita pie which looked delicious, just like it should. mostly all sauce - with blobs of fresh mozzerella throughout, so i wanted to order 2 slices of that. The girl at the front finally took my order and told me 2 slices of margh pizza is $13 and change which is out of this world ridiculous, but whatever. When I finally get it, I open the to go bag to make sure it was right, only to find out it wasnt the same kind of margh pizza like the man before walked out with. It wasnt a margherita at alll actually, it was literally their regular cheese pizza with some weird gorgonzola type cheese sprinkled over it. So I then asked the man to come over so I could show him it was just a regular cheese pizza and isnt a margherita. The owner tells me you cant get an actual margh by the slice, and have to opt for what he gave me. UM...really? I told him unless I could get two slices of a regular marghrita pizza i think i just wanted my money back. Over $13 was originally charged to my card. Without anything said this "owner" took a $10 out of the till and i told him my two pizzas were $13. He tells me to "get the hell out of here and dont ever come back here" scary little dude i actually felt threatened. So at the end, this guy stole over $3 from me, and cursed me and told me to never come back. If I could only be better with words. I am so rattled about what happened and if i could give 1000Negative stars I would. Our new go-to pizza place! Tasty, great service, unpretentious, amazing value. The wings are perfect - just what you'd want. Pizza is incredible - thin crust, good sauce, wide topping selection. But the best part? The freaking ranch. Honestly, one of the best ranch dressings I've ever had. After talking this restaurant up with some co workers I talked them into ordering a Pizza for delivery. I received a confirmation text that my order was received and an approximate time for the delivery. We waited and waited and waited~! I attempted to call the restaurant several times ( about 10) and no one answered the call. Very disappointing and we are all still HUNGRY!
