Really impressed with this pizza spot. Even though I arrived late, they still had my order saved, which I really appreciated. The pizza was super fresh with a soft, thin crust and high-quality cheese. The sauce was unbelievable, and they even give you a generous side of it. We finally made it in and were surprised to find a menu beyond just pizza. We ordered a 16" pepperoni and mushroom pizza, it was delicious! I would say it is a NY style slice, it's got a good crust for sturdiness but is is not as thick as a barros or Pizza Hut hand tossed, more like Venezia's. Service was friendly and quick, he told us 20-25 minutes and turned it around in about 13 minutes. I also ordered a cannoli and it was amazing, among the best I have had. Cool little deli spot with outdoor seating. Definitely worth a stop if you like a traditional slice and/or a good cannoli. read more

I remember when this place opened up many years ago. It was GREAT! Over the years it has definitely gone downhill with the ingredients (pizza). Tonight was the worst. The Pizza crust is trash, could use more pizza sauce. I don't even see the pizza sauce on my pizza. Whoever made my pizza you overcooked it and I do not appreciate that. Wings are bomb though. Ordered two pizzas. Got two. One correct. One incorrect. Ordered via their website but apparently they have door dash deliver. They tried to blame delivery service and make me return it despite the fact that I paid for delivery. Would not make this right tonight. Won't be ordering from them again. Was off to Wally's Pub, on 44th St, next to Steak on 44. Was told Wally's has the very meatloaf in town but when I looked, I was put off by the $27 price tag. So I pulled over at 40th Street and got myself the best 4 or 5 meatball sandwich in town @pizzaon40th. For $8.95. Not $18.95, $8.95!!!! FABULOUS! Great meatballs, not too much breadcrumbs. Great sauce. Sweet, not too sweet, no bitter. Plenty of cheese. There was so much cheese on my sandwich I remember thinking when I go back and get another one of these, and I'm coming back! I'm gonna tell them "half cheese". I just don't need that much cheese. When did anyone get a terrific $9 meatball sub that had too much cheese? A terrific sandwich, I ate the whole damn thing. Hate to leave a bad review because the pizza is honestly great, but the customer service is so hit or miss at the register. I called 15 times and got no answer. The dude with the pony tail said "I haven't been able to answer the phone. Too busy" and showed zero empathy or care. Pretty good spot! We ordered this on doordash and it came quickly and was hot. We ordered a large cheese with sausage and it was good. The sauce had great flavor and wasn't too sweet, there was the perfect amount of cheese, and it had the right amount of flop. The only thing that I wasn't wild about was the crust - it was super crunchy and didn't have much taste. We also had the appetizer sampler and the jalapeño poppers are to die for. They are filled with cheddar instead of cream cheese and they are so yummy. Also, not sure if they make their own ranch or not but it was high quality. read more

We've lived near this pizza place for years and never tried it! We got the garlic bread, house salad, and veggie pizza! The garlic bread was good although I felt it could have been a bit more baked but it came with marinara sauce that was amazing! The salad also came with bread which I didn't realize and is a nice addition. The veggie pizza was solid NY style pizza and I have no complaints. The pizza spot! Used to live around the corner and loved getting their pizza deal with 8 wings, large pizza cheese pizza and added 1 topping and it came with 2 liter soda! It was around $21 at the time and their pizza was huge! Thin crust sweet tomato sauce perfectly placed pepperoni on each slice. Wings extra saucy and always finger licking good. This is a hole in the wall place, really affordable and pies came out quick. 100 percent recommended! read more

GOOD NEWS FOODIES: The number one question in The Phoenix Valley (besides the search for pool companies), is where to find great pizza. The common answers are the usual ones: Grimaldi, Rosatis, Barro's, Bianco...blah blah blah. But true pizza foodies will tell you that there is NO authentic, East Coast pizza anywhere in The Valley. Zero. Nada. And I have to agree. This area has some REALLY average pizza, and nothing like what you'd get in New York or New Jersey. Not even close. And before everybody starts yammering on about how "Pizzeria Bianco was named the number 3 pizza in the nation..." I'm here to tell you I smell a rat. Somebody paid somebody off, or someone owed somebody, or there was blackmail involved. Because we went and tried all four of their pizzas and they were awful. Not just average, but paper-thin, soggy, limp, tasteless gruel. I had better pizza in the Junior high cafeteria. Well I'm here to give hope to our right-coast transplants and desert-dwelling pizza lovers. Go try "Pizza on 40th." It's on Indian School and 40th Ave in Phoenix. And they have the best pizza I've tried anywhere in AZ, and it's pure, old-fashioned, thin-crust, New York style pie just like you'd get from Mamma Cozza's or Little Italy. Also, really good pizza tastes even better the second day. This one does! And it's got that "fold" quality, and a beautifully crisp, bread-y crust. It's not tasteless like soooo many pizza joints. This is as close to New York as you'll find anywhere. We discovered it by accident. Yeah it's tiny, But wow! I enjoyed the Meat Supreme Pizza but I found it comparable to many competitors (many of whom are much cheaper). NY style pizza, very good, close to NY but not exactly. Crust is very thin, cut large enough like NY style to cause the need to fold (IYKYK). Flavor is like NY. Outer crust is not as think and puffy like NY, but the rest was very good to make it worth while if youre in the area. Mostly for take out, only one or two small tables. read more

We were looking for pizza and didn't want to spend a ton of money- noticed most pizza places were artisan/craft and were pricey. We ordered a large (8 HUGE NY style slices) pepperoni and sausage and it was about $25 and some change. Service was good and quick. Got carry out, so I can't really comment on the ambiance. Originally coming from Brooklyn, my family takes their pizza pretty seriously. For Mother's Day this year, my Mom wanted the whole family to all hang out with her and enjoy pizza from Pizza on 40th, which she has loved for many years. I looked up their info and put my order in online. Unfortunately, I put the order in for 11:40 instead of 12:40. Pizza on 40th doesn't open until 11, so I waited 30 minutes to change the time of the pickup, as you have to call them to make any changes to the order; changes cannot be done online. So, I wait 30 minutes. I then call the restaurant at 11:10 to notify them of my error. Clearly, they haven't started cooking the pizza yet, so there should be no issue. I can be so naive. A young man picks up the phone and I let him know that I put in an online order earlier and need to make a change. He must have only had my order waiting, as he knew exactly which order I was speaking of. He reads it back to me. I let him know that everything is correct except the time. I need to push it back one hour. He then "regretfully" informs me that he will be unable to push the time back one hour since I put the order in online and he'll have to process it for the time I entered. I was surprised to say the least, as they hadn't started my order for the two pizzas yet. A pizza takes under ten minutes to make/cook. We all know this. He let me know that the best he could do for me would be to put them in "later" but at an unspecified time. That sounded completely ridiculous. I ask him why that's the case, he asks me to hold for a second and I can hear him chatting with a co-worker. He comes back on the line and let me know that he'll have it for me at 12:50. I thank him and wonder why in the hell I tipped this guy $4. He definitely is not deserving of a tip. But, whatever. Now, I know this guy's a jerk but I'm curious how much of a jerk. Well, I showed up at 12:40. I figured that if the pizza was ready at the earliest pickup window (12:45), it would be coming out fresh and I'd be there for it. I pull up to an empty parking lot and an empty pizza restaurant. They're definitely not slammed on the morning of Mother's Day. I walk in to the young guy standing around not looking busy and the cook doing about the same. On top of the oven are two pizzas that were clearly waiting. They were cold, but nothing I could do if I wanted to feed my family. I took them with me and we at the cold pizzas. Suffice it to say, Pizza on 40th has lost my business and that of my family. If I can dissuade you from wasting your money, I'd suggest going someplace that appreciates your hard-earned money. Firstly, the phone staff was a complete jerk on the phone, just trying to push around some fantasy power he has over my pizza. It's pathetic. The next strike was doing exactly what I didn't want him to do, which was cook my pizza at least ten min early so that it can wait for me, cheese congealing and the crust getting hard and inedible. They took what was my Mom's favorite pizza in Phoenix and made it clear that they wouldn't serve us good pizza. And the final straw for me, they also made it clear that their staff is so petty that I can't put it past them tampering with my pizza and that's just not a chance I'm willing to take. Pizza Heaven, Trevor's Pizza, and Manhattan Pizza are all good pizza joints and I'm happy to give them my business. They seem as though they appreciate it more than Pizza on 40th. read more
