    Organic market salad
    Roger M.

FIRST TIME - BEST PDX PIZZA! I saw a guy loading up huge tubs of fresh organic lettuce from Sunrise Farms at the Wednesday farmers market in Shemanski Park, South Park Blocks, near Arlene Schnitzer theatre. I guessed he must be a chef buying for his restaurant. Yup - Darby is one of two chef/owners of Pizza Thief on NW 26th ST and NW Vaughn ST, Alphabet District. We chatted briefly. I was delighted to hear he buys mostly "ALL" organic and local NW for his pizza place. Gotta go! Two days later my wife and I showed up for lunch. We ordered the market salad loaded with farm fresh organic veggies and the Sunrise oak leaf lettuce. The salad presentation was so colorful (carrots, radishes, green beans, snap peas, pickled asparagus, chives, sheep mile feta) looking like a Claude Monet painting. Big hearty salad tossed in a big bowl. Ya, edible art! So delish with scratch made green goddess dressing. Order a whole pizza or by the slice - which we did. Wife went for a "Vegan Special" slice with tomato sauce, roasted mushrooms, piquillo peppers, kale, mustard greens, Calabrian chili-garlic oil, and Sicilian oregano. I had "Hot Tony" with tomato sauce, pepperoni, schiacciata salami,  calabrian-chili, piquillo peppers, jalapeño mozz-provolone, fior di latte, grana, and sicilian oregano. The pizza looked like abstract art too and was delish. Perfect dough, cooked completely through and not soggy, crispy crunchy crust and slice loaded up with farm fresh ingredients. Sourdough fermented pie is also local and organic NW Camas Mill (what the top pizza places in Portland use) with whole grains. We've been to James Beard award winning or nominated PDX pizza places like Ken's, Lovely Fifty Fifty, Nostrana and Mozza (LA) - throw in other good PDX pizza like Oven & Shaker, Mount Hood brewing and APizza Scholls too - Pizza Thief is in this best pizza in Portland conversation but - but - but - the local NW farm fresh ingredient moved my pizza needle - Pizza Thief to the top of my "OH MY" list. Oh my - I love this pizza! I love supporting local farms, especially organic or pesticide free farmers, who are growing product good for my health - good for the soil - good for the environment. Then, I love those restaurants like Pizza Thief that buy from Oregon NW farmers! Winner! Winner! Winner! Farmer! Pizza shop! Yelpin Foodie! All winners! Pizza Thief serves it up for a Yelpin foodie. I will be back for with my Yelpin bib on for more salads, sandwiches and pizza with a cold brew. Chow out! Chow down!

    18" VALLEY GIRL

Pizza Thief lives up to the hype. We got the Valley girl, which was absolutely delicious. It's one of their vegetarian pizzas with a basil pesto cream instead of the regular house, and the toppings went very well with it. It was savory and filling You can also order by the slice if you want to try this one first or another one. This was our first time so we decided to go for it since I love pesto, and it did not disappoint. If you like your spice I definitely suggest getting the Calabrian chili dip on the side. Has a nice kick! It was easy to order online and pickup, but they do have plenty of tables to walk in as well

Margarita pizza had great flavor- was a little on the saucy side which made it a tiny bit soggy. Kale. Caesar and Greek salad were excellent

pizza thief is very good pizza. new haven style i think? anyway, it's a go-to for our family despite being on the other side of town for us. and it's saying something to stand out as a pizza joint in this town known for its good pizza. they sell by the slice, which is rarer and convenient and all the pizza slices i've tried are quite rich in flavor and crusty and delicious. but my favorite is the hot tony (jalapeno and pepperoni) or the meatball one. their specials are good too. and their ice cream is a must have as well. lastly, i must mention their ranch dipping sauce - it is next level greatness, especially if you like dill. extra special. and it's nice that pizza thief shares a wall/door with the bar next door which provides nicely made stiff cocktails.

Delicious thin crust pizza. My friends and I split a whole pie, we each ate two slices and took home 2 slices which was a better deal. We tried to get a whole pie of the seasonal one but understandable they were limited on ingredients so we got the Woodland - which is their mushroom pizza, not red sauce based. We were recommended the Calabrian chili garlic sauce. It was two extra dollars, but did not disappoint as a pairing for the mushroom pizza. Too full for the ice cream, but it appeared to be made in the store and had some fun flavors. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a fair amount of seating inside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]And they also have a patio, which is unheated but is covered and you were able to bring the dog.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

A soft crust pizza that's cooked perfectly! They have a bunch of different pizzas but only serve what you see in the display. I got a classic cheese pizza and it was yummy! The slices are decent sized. My friend and I shared their Caesar salad which was made with kale. We honestly weren't too sure about it at first but it worked so well. The dressing was perfectly sour. Only street parking here. I came on a Wednesday afternoon and didn't have trouble finding parking at all.

Pizza Thief was the best spot I had in Portland, OR. It's so hard to find a good pizza in my opinion, especially thin crust, but Pizza Thief proved that it can be done right. The restaurant is really comfortable and cozy. Despite the menu offered, they only offer slices that's in the box. I had the Pepperoni, the crust was so thin and crispy. The cheese and pepperoni complimented the side of Calabrian chili sauce wonderfully. I also had another slice that came with hot honey--I don't remember the name, but also delicious. The bites with honey complimented the chili sauce perfectly! They also had sandwiches on the menu and dessert which unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to try. The gentlemen who took my order was also very kind!

My favorite pizza in Portland at the moment! Can't go wrong with the pepperoni and got the current special. Sandwich is pretty stuffed and got messy. Not pictured is the cookies, chocolate chip and jam thumbprint, get the cookies. Service is excellent. There was a miscommunication when ordering and a slice was missing but they comped it for us! I was briefly in Portland and went to a pizza spot that I knew had some delicious slices. The seasonal pesto slcies were our favorite, but their cheese is pretty great too. This time for some reason the wildeood pizza wasn't quite as great as I remembered it and I didn't really like the cannoli much, but the cookie was delicious and their ranch dressing here is superb as well! It's always nice to stop by one of my favorite pizza spots in Portland. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The service is always friendly and the ambiance is pretty nice as well :)[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Oh my goodness the pizza is sooo tasty and crunchy!!! You must accompany it with the Kale Caesar Salad. Gosh, the entire experience was phenomenal. From the service, to the flavors, to the ambiance it was such a great visit. We'll definitely come back again!

New York and Chicago are still trying to catch up. But we are in the Pacific Northwest, nowhere near Loui's Pizza or Buddy's Pizza (Detroit pizza staples). So many times, what tries to pass off as "Detroit style" falls miles short. Then came "Ranch" where I stood outside and screwed up enough courage to try yet another Detroit style pizza. The interior was small, one wall lined with tomato sauce cans, the menu was bolted to a wall. The smell took me back and that gave me some hope. The pizza arrived at the table, the wife and I have varied tastes so we each ordered a quarter pizza. Mine was pepperoni, the wife had a veggie. The pizzas looked right, square, caramelized crispy edges, heavy toppings... and then on the side of the plate was this cup of ranch dressing. Duh! "Ranch" obviously has to have a good ranch, right? I dipped my pinky finger in the ranch and took a taste. You would not think one ranch can be so far ahead of the others, but ranch is the place for ranch, as well as pizza. My first bite brought a smile to my face, it was just, right in every way that a Detroit pie should be. I have been back to try their #4 pie with sausage and ricotta, and I am looking forward to more trips. If all that was not enough, the service was friendly, the food came out so quick (about 10 minutes) and the place was nice and clean.

If you're in or planning to be in Portland, Oregon, I respectfully and enthusiastically recommend you include Pizza Kat in your considered alternatives. A thin, flexible, and tasty-all-by-itself crust. Tomato sauce that adroitly walks the lines between sweet and acidic, and between supporting the other elements well, fading into obscurity, and overwhelming those other elements. The right amounts of the right cheeses. And fresh, tasty toppings. (Sweet Italian sausage not dominated by garlic and mushrooms worth eating on their own, for two delicious examples.) Even better, prices are reasonable, and delivery is available. We had some delivered to our hotel, and it arrived almost as hot and tasty as we would have expected were we at a table near the ovens. There are other pizzas worth eating -- including the thicker-crust "deep cut" slices available before and after select shows at Revolution Hall. But when you want the thin-crust version done right, Pizza Kat will leave your taste buds and tummy purring, without clawing the life out of your wallet.

Unfortunately, this was both our first and last visit. I don't think I've ever disliked a pizza before, but this may be the first one I would genuinely call bad. I enjoy wood-fired pizza and don't mind a little char, but somehow this pizza tasted noticeably bitter despite having very little visible charring. Whether it was the lack of sauce, the sauce itself being quite bland, or simply an imbalance of flavors, the end result just wasn't pleasant. The biggest issue is the value. A $25 cheese pizza doesn't need to be life-changing, but it should at least taste better than Costco's. In this case, unfortunately, it didn't. If your goal is to enjoy great pizza, I'd recommend one of the many other pizza spots in the area instead.

Additionally, if you dine-in, there is an entire bottle of oil on the table that you are encouraged to use on your pizza. It is delicious, and really completes the pizza flavor profile! They used to automatically include two small containers of oil per pizza if you ordered to-go. Current policy appears to be to not include any oil with the pizza (unless explicitly asked) and to only provide a maximum of two oils (even if multiple pizzas are ordered). I don't know if there is an oil shortage or what, but this is silly for a place that charges so much for their pizza. Life of Pie is a typical Portland restaurant that expects you to tip before you receive your food (and also expects you to bus your own table). To me, this expectation alongside with the inconsistency of the food for the price, is disappointing, and does not encourage people to go out of their way to return. When the food is good it is a solid place, however I would expect much more consistency for the price they command.
