I got here at 11.30pm the first time. Cool guy behind the counter. For a newly remodeled pizzeria, the guy gives it personality that an old school pizzeria can't compete with. Little hook ups, fun jokes, interaction etc. For getting the last slices, as in nothing was really fresh and we were twisted...not bad, not bad at all. So we left, bought beers, tried to chill on a few stoops, no luck...so we came back, bought out the last of the garlic knots...he was cool enough to let us chill with our beers at the table. read more

Oh, I used to live upstairs in the building next door and lived on their pizza for over two years (two cheese slices, cold- so I could heat 'em upstairs). Pizza is when pizza anywhere you go. It's pretty hard to mess up a slice but believe me I've had bad before! I Came Here On Recommendation. I was told they had a really good slice. I was skeptical since it was an ordinary pizza place and the person was probably just really hungry lol. When i walked in i was surprised to see it packed. mostly with typical park slope stroller mom's that just picked up their kids from school. I mean, that has to mean something right?! I walked up to the counter and they had all types of delicious looking pies. I especially love the slices that are stuffed. I settled just for a regular slice this time. I always tell every pizza place to make mine extra well done. I like my pizza crispy. I have the admit, the slice was pretty damn good. It wasn't paper thin. New York pizza that suits the tourist. I have heard from many a native and transplanted New Yorker, that pizza is plentiful, and much of it very good. I have no idea how this place rates, but can say that as a famished tourist, I was very pleased with my spinach and tomato pizza. The crust was crispy and robust, the toppings loaded on top, and filled with deliciousness. My husband had the Sicilian pizza, which as a New Yorker (since moved to the West Coast), he appreciated. Great garlic knots and zeps!! (They charge for sauce for the knots and we had to ask for the sauce... which was weird, don't knots come with sauce?) Growing up as a kid in Park Slope, Pizzatown was always my favorite place for a slice. However I went about 3 years ago and I was slightly disappointed. The pizza just wasn't good in my opinion. I went the other day just to see if it was really as bad as it seemed 3 years ago and was surprised by how good I enjoyed it! I tried the buffalo chicken pizza with garlic knots and I was happy to admit that both were very delicious. I'm glad they changed things up a bit for the better. I enjoyed the pizza here, Ive come here often and it's my mom's favorite so I come here more than expected. To me, it is just a typical pizza joint but the pizza is a good size and thickness, not too doughy and just the right amount of crunch. There was a nice variety of pizza and pizza toppings. My son got a beef patty with cheese which was pretty good too, despite that fact they are pre-made and bought by the store. I also had the opportunity to try the chicken roll which is usually the benchmark for pizza joints for me. The pizza doesn't stand out at all on sauce or portion a lot of times it's pretty greasy. The garlic knots are too doughy, the zepolis are decent. This place is cash only with an atm inside. Average Pizza. The ambience and 5th avenue location is what let this place exist all these years. When you go in, there are a ton of tables set up, and a professional and clean-looking environment. The problem is, the pizza is just not that good. Antonio's on 7th Avenue and Flatbush, about a 10-minute walk from here, is about as good pizza as you can find in Park Slope or Prospect Heights, as far as crust, sauce and cheese. This place looks very nice visually and the location on 5th avenue is a somewhat prime location, but the actual quality of the different slices was subpar. read more

I grew up in Brooklyn and have since moved away due to work. I have made it a point to take a trip back home at least once a year to have a grandma pizza pie from Pizzatown. Every time i go home and get a square the nostalgia of the good old days flood my senses. The sauce is rich but light like a wave from the ocean crashing against the shore. It reminds you of hitting up a bodega for a cool drink during the summers. There are only a few slices of thick cheese that melt on to the bread. Your taste buds will sing when you smack them with the sauce,cheese and crispy but not over done crust. I will continue to go here for the rest of my life. 15/10 would recommend. read more

The Grandma slice is the thing to get here. Maybe this is common in NY, but I haven't had it elsewhere. I got to it after my pepperoni slice which didn't slouch either. Grandma awaited patiently, ironically releasing stale, unpleasant odors. I was hesitant; first bite was awkward and timid; second was comforting and I tasted something peculiarly delightful. The crust was cooked longer, almost burnt, which was a change of pace. The pizza was overwhelmed with mozzarella cheese and olive oil, sprinkled with red pepper, oregano and most impotantly: garlic. It all came together to make this visit well worth it. Now Grandma is a part of my vocabulary and I will not ignore her. read more

Picture it: you're walking home from a long day at work, hopefully making the world a better place but more than likely just perpetuating the conversion of paid jobs to internships for overqualified grad students. Anyway, your fatigued eyeballs catch the red, white and green V&M Pizza Town sign. You cross the street, walk in, and there, sitting behind the filmy plate glass display are puffy, pastrified, deep-fried Zeppoles. Just looking at them raises your blood pressure by 50 points, or grams, or PSI, or whatever blood pressure is measured in. You ask the guy behind the counter for a dozen in a bag. Tell him to pour on the powdered sugar. You tell him to shake the bag well. You're drooling by this time, work long forgotten. You grab the bag, the contents of which is now fried dough, grease, and enough powdered sugar to film Scarface 2. Retrieving one of these sugary goodnesses, you pop the whole thing into your mouth and as your pleasure centers explode and your body prepares a last ditch defense against the cholesteral immediately building up in your arteries, you sink against the wall in stupified contentment. The other 11 are for later. You can eat them at 4am when you get back from whatever distraction you've planned for yourself tonight. Guaranteed hangover cure. Solid little local pizza place. I always get a smile with my slice, and after a long work day, it's sometimes all I need. The Sophia Lauren pizza is their specialty and I tend to stick with it. It's a square (Sicily style) with fresh mozzarella, tomato, and fresh basil. Garlic knots and zeppoli are also generally solid. Tip: 2-liters are cheaper than at most places, so if you are there with a friend or two, it's usually better to get a 2-liter than cans of soda. read more

The only downside was the leaking ACs that kept dripping water as the patrons were eating. Also, one of the pizza makers was also cashing at the register.
