pizzas and drinks on a table
    Mia H.

I was on a quest the other week, to find the spiciest pizza in Minnesota and I am pretty certain I've found it here. After well over an hour of googling and poring over menus I saw the description for their Diavola pizza... "Our Hot & Spicy Pizza! Red sauce sprinkled with our special pepper blend (a house mix of jalapeño, habanero and cayenne peppers) - sliced spicy Italian sausage, yellow & red peppers, pepperoncini and fresh jalapeño topped with mozzarella, pepper jack cheese and ghost pepper cheese . . . pick your heat: HOT; HOTTER; or DEATH !" Imagine my giddiness when I saw heat level DEATH! Montgomery MN is for many a pretty far hike to get to, but you're able to grab your pizza curbside and take a quick trip down the block to the amazing little brewery (Montgomery Brewery) and bring your pizzas in to eat while you drink through their selection of beer. (Pizza and beer is a match made in heaven) the crust was a nice texture, there were a TON of toppings, my husband got the Chicken in a grass skirt which was really good- I do wish the pineapple would be slightly smaller chunks and spread out more otherwise it was super tasty as well. I can't remember what our friend ordered but he really enjoyed his pizza too. It's a fun day trip or little half day trip for some amazing pizza. If you're a huge spice head like me, the Diavola death heat level is amazing, it is not so spicy you can't eat because you're too busy involuntarily crying and blowing your nose but it's the spiciest I've had authentically that I felt didn't need any hot sauce or red pepper flakes. 10/10 would drive 40+ minutes to order again.

I came here with family for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It's easy to judge it by the cover since it's tucked in a small town, but it's a hidden gem south of the cities. Authentic home made Italian pizza, fun atmosphere, and super friendly staff. Prices are reasonable and will definitely be back! The only downside is it's a small place so you probably should call to reserve.

    So cozy.

Absolutely amazing. I spent the winter in New Prague and 201 made my time in the country awesome. The jalapeño pepperoni is to die for.

The décor is elegant and inviting, and halfway through dinner the lights dimmed into what we jokingly called the "sexy dinner lights," making the atmosphere even more warm and cozy. One thing I really liked is that every entrée comes in multiple sizes, so you can order the portion that fits your appetite. I wish more restaurants offered that option! We started with the Parmesan Crusted Shrimp, and it was a great appetizer. The shrimp had a light, crispy Parmesan crust and came with two delicious dipping sauces. I ordered the Lasagna, and it was exactly what I was hoping for--rich, hearty, cheesy, and full of flavor. One entrée at the table was the Chicken Fettuccine, and we all laughed because none of us expected the pasta to be bright green! It turned out to be spinach fettuccine and ended up being a favorite. Another person ordered the Seafood Linguini De Mare. It wasn't their personal favorite, but that was simply a matter of taste rather than the quality of the dish. I had a Red Ruby Spritz mocktail, which was refreshing and beautifully presented. The others enjoyed their drinks as well. The portions were generous. Even though we were completely stuffed, we still couldn't pass up dessert! The Crème Brûlée was outstanding with a perfectly crisp caramelized sugar topping and silky custard. The Budino was incredibly rich, decadent, and one of the highlights of the night. The Salted Caramel Gelato was also enjoyed. Service was friendly, attentive, and never rushed. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere that made us want to linger. One funny tip: the bathrooms were spotless, but the toilets are surprisingly low! I almost sat down much faster than I expected. so be careful. Overall, Ciao Bella was a wonderful dining experience with delicious food, generous portions, beautiful décor, and a relaxing atmosphere. I'll definitely be back!

The place has a great feel - dim lighting, open kitchen, good energy without being over the top. Easy spot to settle in and enjoy a meal. Our waiter was excellent for most of the night. He knew the menu well and pointed us toward the handmade pasta over the boxed options. It came with an upcharge, as expected, but worth it. Toward the end of the evening he started disappearing for longer stretches. We weren't in a rush, but it went a little past what you'd want. Food was excellent. I started with the oysters - fresh, cold, clean, with that nice briny hit. For my entrée I had the scallops over fresh pasta with mushrooms and thin crispy potato chips. The scallops were spot on with a good sear and the whole dish came together really well. My wife had the chicken piccata (which I sampled - and really liked), daughter went with the wild mushroom tagliatelle, and her boyfriend had the pappardelle with grilled chicken and scallops. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We also a bruschetta app to start, which was not as flavorful as I expected. The wonderful warm bread disappeared fast. A couple Caesar salads were ordered and received compliments from those who partook. We left full and satisfied. Overall, really good experience and consistent with our first visit. Would recommend and we'll definitely be back.

Also important to note, they close at 8 PM. It's decorated like a true family style place, cute flowers and colors and light fixtures. The service is friendly, but if you are in a hurry, they are not. They bring olive oil and herbs to the table with homemade bread to start which is an extra touch I think most restaurants have stopped doing. They did offer any pasta dish to be made with gluten-free penne. My pasta dish was tasty and warm but the meat was sparse, and though the prices seem fair, I would say all around this was an average experience. I can see how this could have sentimental value to people who live in the neighborhood, and I do like to support independent restaurants so I'm glad we tried it, but if you are a true foodie and if you are looking for great Italian, I don't think this is the spot.

I started with a glazed dish of what looked like tender bites of pork over sweet potatoes, topped with crispy quinoa and fresh mint - the sweet and savory combo with that herby crunch on top was addictive, and we scraped the bowl clean. For the main, the crispy skin fish was the star of the night. The skin was shattered-glass crispy, the flesh underneath flaky and perfectly cooked, and it sat on a bright, punchy salad with radicchio and shaved fennel that cut through the richness perfectly. The cocktails were just as thoughtful. I had a beautifully balanced sour-style drink with a soft foam top and a dusting of spice, and it was easy to see why the bar program here gets so much love -- the shelves behind the bar are stocked deep, and it shows in the drinks. The whole vibe at the bar is relaxed but polished, with the bartenders keeping an easy pace and clearly knowing the menu inside and out. The space is small, but so adorable. There is also a nice patio. The cocktail and wine list were very intriguing, so decided to go for a cocktail. I tried the Sanka Ya Dead (mostly because of the name) and it was such a refreshing summer beverage. The food was spectacular. There was a corn appetizer special that I could not pass up. We also were among garlic bread fanatics, so had to get that as well. Both appetizers were delicious. I chose the rigatoni for my main with chicken parm. This was such yummy comfort in a bowl. The chicken parmesan was a giant piece, so you may have some leftover. I wasn't hungry enough to tack on dessert, but others got the olive oil cake and it looked good. I do recommend making a reservation, although bar seating appears to be first come, first serve. Definitely recommend a dinner at Olio.
