A rough day at work I find, is always cured with a good meal. Sometimes you just have to "pizza the bad day away" y'know? I took to GrubHub to get dinner sorted since cooking was out of the question. To my surprise, I spotted Pizzeria Aroma! It's been at least a decade (or longer) since I've had it, but there it was. Like an old friend. I quickly navigated the menu, gleefully remembering the Magic Herb powder. (Seriously, don't ask, just add it to your pizza!) There was no tracking but I hardly cared. I was just happy & hopeful, with an estimated 60-70 minute wait. I will wait for good pizza. (Did I mention their other offerings are great too?) Pizza arrived 10 or so minutes shy of an hour & the delivery driver followed directions perfectly & was friendly. I had to be that person, eating pizza from the box with my lap as the table. One bite & the nostalgia kicked in. It's still just as wonderful as I remember! Cooked just right & not skimping on toppings either. Thank you Pizzeria Aroma! I'll be ordering again soon. read more

Ordered pizza and wings from this place for delivery through UberEats and was not disappointed. It came still pretty hot, and the pizza was BOMB. We got the largest size Boss's Pick (the name of the actual pizza), and it was SO good. Honestly, one of the better pizzas I've had in Chicago since moving here. There's so many more to try, so I know it's a bold statement, but I'd say it's definitely in my top 5 (non deep-dish). This pizza was definitely more on the thinner crust side which is not at all a problem for me. I like all types of pizzas, but just be aware that this isn't the stereotypical thicker crust pizza place. At least.... our pizza wasn't I mean. We ordered hot wings... I think at 16 piece. Wings were ok. I've had better, and I've had worse. They were decent, but honestly the ranch was just too watered down for me. I'm literally a psychopath for good ranch, because at the end of the day, it complements your wings (or pizza, yes I said it) well if it's thicker and better quality. I know a lot of restaurants are cutting on costs and what not, but unfortunately someone like myself notices these little things because I love ranch way too much lol. I've since tried other things on the menu, besides their amazing thin-crust pizzas, and have been impressed. The Ragin Cajun Pasta is particularly good! The salted caramel gelato is also quite nice. This place is so great! I stopped in today for a little lunch and the staff and owner were so welcoming and accommodating. The menu is AWESOME. I had a hard time picking what I'd do first but went with the chicken bruschetta salad. Loved it. Everyone that came in seemed like regulars and had a great relationship with the people here. Came upon this place by accident when we mistakenly went to pick up a pizza that we ordered from a different place! Ooops. Thought it looked interesting so we returned to give it a try a couple weeks later. What a lucky find! We ordered a couple pasta dishes, salads, soup and deserts. This was truly some of the best Italian food we've had in a while. The vodka sauce was DELICIOUS. Everything seemed to be made with high quality ingredients freshly made to order. Firstly, I want to break this down into a few different reviews- delivery, dine in, catering. But to get it out of the way- food 5 stars speed 5 stars Cust service 5 stars 1. Delivery- we order from here about once a week. BUT THIS WEEK- I had to ask the delivery person to come up into my apartment through the backyard because my foot is broken. Would I do this normally? HELL NO. But I feel familiar enough with this amazing restaurant that I asked the guy to come in and hand me my delivery. It was very kind of him! The delivery is always on time, and their online ordering system is great through their website. We get a vegetarian pizza with pepperoni. The amount of vegetables is huge, and the pepperoni is delicious and crispy. I also love their salads. They are huge, fresh, and delicious. I get my kid his own 8" cheese pizza. It comes in a small pizza box that he loves. Also the tiramisu... YUM 2. Dine in I took my son here for a lunch date and we ate out on the sidewalk patio. It was awesome. Their servers are fast and kind. The food is so good! Lovely experience. Would like to go at night on a date for sure. 3. Catering- I've catered two dinners for Sarah's Circle as a fundraiser with them. The food is always a hit, and delivered on time perfectly. The owner, Jim, worked out a great deal with me as it was a fundraiser and not only was I able to fund the meals, but ended up donating over $1,500 to the organization! So not only is it a great restaurant, but also has heart. The food is awesome. My *one* complaint is that it's $4 for an order of fries. They are pretty good, and a very generous portion, but that just seems a bit expensive. I still order them though! read more

I wrote a review for Aroma about seven years ago, and given the current climate, I thought it was worth an update. My husband and I used to live just up the street, so we would frequent Aroma. But time passed, we moved out of the neighborhood and started to find new places to enjoy. But then came Covid... To get out of the house, we started taking walks just for a change of scenery and some fresh air. Through our walks we were able to reconnect with our old friend, Aroma. We have ordered every week since the start of the shutdown. The team has continued to deliver outstanding service, incredible quality, and everything is just as good as I remembered! I've ordered pickup from them twice which I phoned in the order (although they do have online ordering). The ordering process was quick and efficient and each time the order came out as expected and both times they said it would only take 15 min and when I arrived it was waiting for me. I'm sure they get busier than when I've called to order which was mid-week right as they open so wait times likely vary. They do have street meter parking which I've chanced it and gone in and out within 2 min and didn't bother to pay without an issue. The pizza itself is good not great. The crust is ok but I've certainly had better. The only other item I've tried was the side salad and it was fresh and had nice enough ingredients. Overall it's a 3.5 star rating but boosted them to 4 for efficiency and customer service. I'll have to check out some of their other offerings as their menu goes far beyond pizza. read more

Great Pizza, fast, efficient service, and a very nice dining room make for a great experience. For many years they have reliably helped with large events too, with good delivery. We have a hard to find, hard to figure out, business location and their drivers and managers communicate directly and clearly with us. I have also had their desserts (carrot cake is awesome), apps, salads..all have been great. Pizza is "Chicago Tavern style" or a really good corn meal enhanced crust...so thin crust or a bit thicker. I've been here a few times now, both dining in and carrying out. I've got to say, we've grown to love this place as a great, local spot to run to when we want a date night that's not over-the-top. It's close to home, which is great. The service is always so kind, friendly, and accommodating. They're quick to grab anything you need, adjust an order if necessary, and to help you navigate the menu. Food is great and always comes out super fresh and exactly as you expect. We've only really ever done soup, salad, pizza here so I'm not sure about the other entrees, but I wouldn't be too worried. I love that they also have daily specials on food and drinks as well as a 7-day a week happy hour from 3p-6p. If you see a couple cops sitting at the table for dinner, you know it has to be good, right? I give 5 stars because I love this place for what it is: a great local, mid-range spot. I came here on a date this past Thursday evening. I called earlier in the week to make reservations and had no issues at all. On the day of, my date arrived in a few minutes before l did. As l walked in and met the hostess who already appeared to not be the friendliest. I told her l had a reservation for two. She says to me: " Oh yea, she is in the back in the corner." She does this as she nodes her head in the back of the restaurant behind a pillar. I want you to keep in mind that the restaurant at the time was completely empty. I did not think much of it too much at the time because when l go out l do appreciate some privacy or seclusion when having conversation and eating good food. As a time progressed, we were sitting at the table for about 15 minutes before water even came. The hostess came and gave us water. I then asked for 2 straws because l do not like drinking directly from the cup or glass. I spoke loud and clear and the hostess blatantly ignored me a continued to walk off. My back was facing her as she walked off, and l wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt that I did not speak loud enough at first. However, my lovely date assured me that the woman heard me and continued to walk off! As l am a government official and a long time resident of the Edgewater community l wanted to enjoy and support local businesses in my neighborhood. I did not want to spoil the moment of my evening after a long day of work by going off. I decided to move forward with our night. We continued to wait for about another 10-15 minutes before someone came to consider taking our order. This continued to rub us the wrong way. Two African- Americans being placed in the back of a restaurant, behind a pillar of an empty restaurant, request being ignored, not receiving good hospitality was an awful experience! Mind you, still remaining calm and not wanting to spoil our lovely night. I let my date know we were leaving and l was not going to spend a dime at this establishment. We can go somewhere else to close out our evening and we did as such. As we began to leave and approached the front door. We noticed two couple come in after us were sitting in the front of the restaurant. They had water and drinks with straws! There was a couple of gentlemen in front of us leaving out the same hostess said "good night !" to the gentlemen in front of us. Once again, she did not acknowledge us as we left out the establishment. You should be careful of how you treat customers no matter the color of their skin, gender, background, sexuality whatever. As a paying customer you need to treat all with respect! I will not be back to this establishment and l will be sure to tell everyone about my experience here! Ordered mozzarella sticks, calamari, a custom pizza, and fried eggplant thing. The food arrived promptly and we tucked in. The mozzarella sticks were nothing special, very obviously cooked from frozen. The squid and eggplant were soggy, but that's to be expected when you get delivery. The pizza, well it was just awful. I'm not sure what the craze is for thin crust cooked like this, however I've had better thin crust from the freezer at our local grocery. It was just that, a cardboard textured, frozen base, slathered with toppings that we had chosen. The crust was terrible. I don't understand the rave reviews this place gets, but we won't be going back and we won't be recommending it. You want good pizza, try Fat Chris, Pizza Art, or Happy Camper. read more

She provided us copy of menu which not needs to return. ( I assume) The menu lists many items range from appetizers to alcohol drinks. Took me to familiarize the menu and settled on Chicken Cesar Wrap with fries. For appetizers, fried mushrooms. I opt for lemonade drinks. The food was big but good. Fried mushrooms just taste right. We tried to love this place for six months. My original review detailed why we found doing that so difficult. We've lived in Edgewater Beach for nearly ten years, and Aroma is--by far--the most inconsistent local eatery we've ever experienced. Throughout the pandemic, it's been important to us to support local restaurants. For that reason, we continued to order from Aroma despite the consistent problems that I detailed in my original review: constant missing ingredients; missing extra-charge items; missing sides; incompletely cooked items; unseasoned sauces, etc. At this point, we've decided we won't be ordering from Aroma any further. It's not that the above issues happen sometimes. It's that, in our experience, one or usually more (and sometimes all) of them happen every single time we order. Don't believe me? We've received refunds on our last three consecutive orders for uncooked food and missing items. There's no way we're the only ones. For all the non-stop marketing this place does, Aroma clearly has zero quality control in its kitchen and in its front-of-house. The food is good when it's good. The problem is, it's never all good and often a terrible experience. Honestly, we've never felt so consistently disrespected as customers by any other local eatery. There are so many other, better pizza/Italian options in Edgewater Beach that will actually respect you and the food they make for you. There's no reason to put up with a place like this. Before, I ordered a pizza to go from this place, and later dined on, and thought it was good. Then I made the mistake of bringing my friends. The food and the service was nice, but our service ended up being so two-faced that it inspired me to download Yelp just to warn others. Now, we were high schoolers who weren't organized with paying the bill, but we did pay it in full. AND tip. I'd say the tip was pretty generous too, because if I remember correctly, it was 20% of what the food was worth. Despite that, though, our server didn't take the half second it would have took to see the tip clearly on the table, and decided to come out and yell at us about it. It apparently was "horseshit" how we didn't pay, and we should've went to McDonald's if we didn't have the money to come. We did. Even after the tip was pointed out, he wasn't even all that apologetic, and someone else had to come and apologize on his behalf. He had the GALL to insult my friends over a mistake HE MADE, because he felt he was entitled to a tip THAT WAS ALREADY THERE. It's ridiculous. It took one immature person to lose five customers for good. I'm sure the rest of the team is nice, but it just takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch. On top of all that, I saw on Google reviews that the owner felt the need to antagonize people leaving critical reviews, and even call one fake. I'm sure someone so obsessive would see reviews here too, so if you're reading this, take it from a group of actual kids and grow up. If that sounds remarkably unprofessional to you, don't go here. If you must, though, don't leave a tip to be spiteful on my behalf. Thank you. read more

No effort was made at the restaurant to get me the correct order, offer me a coupon, an apology -- just complete indifference to the fact that we had no dinner because they fucked up. P.S. Grubhub "fixed" the situation by refunding only the mistaken item. Because I was still responsible for taxes, fees, etc., I ended up paying $10 to have a warm can of soda delivered to me. This is going to sound weird, but my issue with this place isn't the food, it is the service. I will give credit where credit is do. The food is delicious, and even better than other Italian places I've been to actually. I was recommending this place to people left and right, up until yesterday. I went there with some friends to celebrate a birthday, and our server was friendly enough I guess with the table, but I personally felt completely unwelcomed. Our server was attentive to everyone at the table, but neglected me almost the entire time I was there. I am no Karen, and completely not high maintenance. I ask for limes and a straw for my water, I mean wow. However, neither him nor the bus boy offered more water to me, even though they filled other's cups at my table. They take my friend's plate, who was literally sitting next to me, and neglected mine; I had been done with mine first with napkins and orange peels on the plate so it was obvious that I was done. I had to ask for water 3 times, and for them to please take my plate, and when the server walks back around after informing the bus boy my table needed water, he just points to me, behind himself as he walks by, as if I wasn't worth looking at nor worth being addressed as a person. His personality is peculiar though, I get it. He is like that overly macho type that rarely even smiles. Gabriel who works there though, he is awesome. The last couple times I was there, he attended us, and was super freakin cool! Very nice, and was very on it with all of us at the table. I should have a left a review for him, but my positive reviews of the place were word of mouth. Actually, for the most part that staff is really nice! Like I said, I'll give the kudos where they are due. I honestly don't know what happened, and maybe he DID get this idea that I am this high maintenance person or something because my friends joke around with me in that way when we are there. Again, I ask for limes and a straw for my water, and appreciate the candle being lit at the table....that makes me, "that person," I guess. I am actually always very nice to people, and joke around with my servers and bartenders when I go out. I tried that with him, and I was met with silence. Last time he was a lot nicer too, so yeah. I don't know, I just felt so uncomfortable almost the entire time. He then offers my friend a piece of cake on the house for his birthday...super nice right? It came with a lit candle and everything. That was actually very sweet, and I can say it now, "thank you so much for that," but it was hard for me to say anything anymore to him at the time. I even complimented the one cocktail I ordered at the beginning of my visit, because it was pretty good. His response, he walks away first and says from a distance, "good." After that, I didn't even feel like ordering anymore drinks, and I didn't. There was also very little to no eye contact when I spoke to him, and I am sooooo not used to that from servers. It was just a very uncomfortable, and a confusingly weird experience last night, and I still don't know what to make of it. What did I do to make you act so unwelcoming and unattentive with me? I have frequented this establishment many times as it is just a short walk from my home. Typically, I order ahead of time, pick up my food, and go on my way. The restaurant is small, with only about 7-8 tables and the register at the front of the store. On this particular evening, around 6:15pm, I had ordered a pizza online and when I arrived I was told it would be about 10 minutes until it was ready. I took my son (age 3) and we sat at one of the tables to wait. Shortly afterward, a very gregarious male came in. He seemed to be very familiar with the staff, and the bald man behind the counter - whom I assume is the manager, as they discussed sports and plans for the evening. During the conversation they both dropped several f-bombs. Later on, a CTA bus driver came in and joined some other drivers who were already dining. During his very loud conversation with them, he too was swearing non stop. Finally, fed up, I said, "hey! Could you watch your mouth? There is clearly a child sitting here." The man looked at me blankly, while his colleagues said to him, "She's right, man. Watch your mouth; there are kids in here." Shortly afterward, he left. My name was called and I walked to the counter with my son to collect my order. At this point, the manager had not apologized for his potty mouth and extremely unprofessional language - nor did he offer an apology for the despicable language to which my young son had been subjected. If a woman and her child are not able to visit a family restaurant early in the evening without being subjected to disgusting illicit conversation and swearing, then that is a real shame. This place should be ashamed of themselves! I will not be back. Oh. And the olives and peppers on my pizza were burnt. read more

The pizza here was definitely good, but not necessarily anything I wanted to write home about. Our food came out decently fast, especially considering we went around 4pm & the place was not packed at all. The atmosphere of the place definitely left much to be desired. It was very clean but the lights and the decor almost gave the place a sterile feeling. They do have a couple TV's for those who are wanting to keep up with sports! We were very hungry and started on the pizza before we could even get a good picture. We got the Margherita Pizza with chicken added to it. They had plenty of options on the menu, including a make-your-own pizza. Overall it was okay. The pizza was good, but the place itself didn't leave me wanting more.
