Somehow they're more garlicky than actual garlic, and I don't understand how it's physically possible. Finding a slice of cheesy pizza has become easier now a days in SF. There are many places around the city now offer many different types of pizza slices. When it comes to a pizza slice I sometimes prefer a simple basic cheesy slice in SF. There is a place in the Marina which has been serving slices of pizza for years. It's located in the end of all those Lombard street hotels and motels and it's called Avellino. On a Summer stroll with the sun hiding in the clouds I landed on Lombard street at Avellino. I came back here to see if they kept it consistent. I ordered the pepperoni slice and it was tasty. The pepperoni was savory and had good flavor. The crust was a bit flakey and the crusty was a bit flakey like some in SF. They also sell cheese burgers and chopped salad like some in SF. Overall still consistently a place to grab a good pizza slice. This review is long overdue. Overall, this pizza place is a solid neighborhood spot. The service has always been good--friendly and attentive, which makes a big difference in a small place like this. The pizza itself is decent and hits the spot when you're craving something simple and comforting. Nothing over the top, but consistent and satisfying. The space is on the smaller side, but they make good use of it. There's both indoor and outdoor seating, which is nice depending on the weather. Inside, there's a TV where you can catch the Miners game when it's on, adding to the casual, local vibe. I have grabbed pizza a couple of times here over the last few months. I love that my pizza by the slice comes in a nice little perfectly shaped cardboard box. I always have to take it to go so, while I might like a little more toppings and bite to the pizza it's itself, it works well for what I need and all the different kinds that I have tried so far taste pretty good. They have seating outside so it's great if you have your dog with you or you just want to enjoy the weather. The patio is really cute and a location is good as well. I will keep stopping by here when I get a chance to try different types of pie on offer. read more

Probably best not to stray too far from the pizza menu, since the other items are clearly not the specialty. A slice will do the trick if you're hungry. Cheese Slice: It was very cheesy, which was the biggest plus. Felt skimpy on the sauce though and the a bit too bready. Mozzarella Sticks: A bit of let down. Wasn't the typical Italian breadcrumb coating you get on most mozzarella sticks, even ones from the grocery store freezer section. We stopped into Pizzeria Avellino after a visit to the Palace of Fine Arts for Emotion Air. It was an easy 5-7 minute walk (with kids!) so we could keep our parking spot and only a slight incline so manageable for small legs. I appreciated the ability to buy pizza by the slice since my kids like different kinds of pizza and won't finish a whole pie. This sound silly but the fries were AMAZING. Super crispy and they had an outside layer of deliciousness. The service was top notch including wiping down the table for us without asking and cutting the large slices in half to make them easier for the kids to handle. The close proximity to the Palace was a huge plus and we will definitely stop in again when we are back in the area. read more

I was rushing across town as I bought tickets to a last minute event at the Palace of Fine Arts and was worried I would pass out of hunger. As the 43 Masonic bus stopped at the Lombard Gate and I exited, wow! God has answered my prayers! A pizza place! I will be fed and be happy after all! Nice not busy at 7pm. Had a couple waiting for their whole pizzas and later tourist couple came in to order 4 slices of pizza. Nice clean, quiet, well lighted place. One worker working by himself and later another employee came in. Thanks this is a nice neighborhood place next door to a sandwich shop. Easy 7 minute walk straight down to the Palace of Fine Arts. Stopped by here after visiting the Palace of Fine Arts. They have about 5 different pizzas sold by the slice they range from $4.99-$5.99 each. I tried the combo and it only took a few minutes of reheating. There was the standard parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning and red chili flakes on the table. They have various pizza options by the slice and our kids very much enjoy coming here! They have lots of seating inside and outside. On a cold rainy day, the indoor seating was ideal. Kids ordered a slice of Hawaiian pizza and a slice of cheese. Of course they have lot of other traditional options (pep, veggie, mushroom and cheese and more). There additional menu includes wings, salads, and more! They have a huge TV screen inside (usually playing sports of some kind). It does take a few mins to warm up the pizza in their oven- however I did see people walk in, grab pizza and eat without warming it up! Whatever you wish! It was easy to schedule the delivery a week in advance, the delivery showed up on time, and the food was amazing / everyone loved it. I will be ordering from here again next time there is an opportunity at a work event. RIP to a real one man. This used to be my all time favorite pizza. I could have it any time, any day, doesn't matter if it was hot, cold, rainy, whatever, I could eat this pizza every single day.
