I was looking for a quick and light lunch and came across Gioia. They do pizza by the slice and have an assortment of flavors. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small little shop, barely any seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is real fast and the pizza is delicious.

Amazing NY style pizza right in SF! Huge slices for 5.25 per slice regardless of what flavor you get. They heat up the slice for you on the spot. Flavors changes on a daily basis. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's one dine in table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love the asparagus flavor pizza, they drizzle pesto on top. Julian was also delicious. I prefer the white base pizzas.
I got a slice of funghi and it was great! I think this place is better for a late night bite to safisfy cravings. Service is fast and casual. Crust is thin and not super crispy, but not chewy as well. No complaints.
Slice of pizza 5.25 and cannot $8. Cannot- they make it fresh, pipe the filling with chocolate chip. Sprinkle pistachio bits and powder sugar. Pizza was Fungi. So good. Friendly service.

I love discovering new places, and especially when it's for what most would consider to be basics. There is absolutely nothing basic about Gioia pizzeria. It's anything but. This is probably one of the most authentic Italian pizzerias that I have found in San Francisco. The customer service is top-notch, and the staff will make you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door, to being seated, and your mule is brought to the table. Things to immediately love about Gioia's. You can either order a whole pizza or pizza by the slice. I haven't found many places that offer pizza by the slice and have so many options to choose from. Diners tip: order the garlic knots! You will thank me later. They are light, fluffy, and each bite is a taste bomb. They are garlic, cheesy, and pull part so easily. You literally cannot stop eating them. For me, I would drive back to the city just to have the garlic knots. The last time I had anything comparable to this was that one of my favorite pizza places in Los Angeles. So I'm pretty excited to have found something a lot closer to home. They serve it with a marinara sauce that is tasty, but I actually would not minded if it had a little bit more kick to it. We ordered a couple of different slices so that we could try a few things out. Funghi pizza slice. The mushrooms were absolutely delectable and the cheese was perfectly melted in the combo together was absolutely deliciousness in each bite. Specialty gabagool pizza. The pepperoni was crispy and it had that nice bite of spice that makes you want another bite over and over again. This is that absolutely perfect pizza. The ricotta mail out the pepperoni and the combo together. I didn't know pizza could taste this delicious! Both pizzas had that perfect crest that was both crispy, crunchy with just the right amount of that doughy goodness. It's exactly what Pizza should be! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great customer service. Great atmosphere. It's a great place for date night, family time, or just hanging in with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place is so deserving of five stars! One of my favourite pizzerias in SF! They serve thin crust pizzas as well as individual slices. The pizza leans to the thinner side, probably even thinner than a typical NYC pizza slice and not as crispy. They have unique flavours that are on the healthier side and their veggie options are delicious. I especially like the fungi pizza. I do wish they had more non veg variety like a traditional NYC pizzeria. The service is always quick and friendly.
Ordered delivery from the Hayes St. location last night and the pizza arrived looking like it had been carried sideways the entire trip. The entire pizza had shifted in the box, slices were folded over, grease was splattered all over the lid, and it was no longer hot by the time it arrived. What made this even more frustrating was the amount paid for delivery. In addition to the food cost, I paid a $3.99 delivery fee, a $5.70 service fee, and tipped the driver $5.50. For that kind of added cost, I think it's reasonable to expect the pizza to arrive level, intact, and hot. The restaurant is about 4 miles from my house, and it appeared the delivery was made by bicycle, which may explain why the pizza ended up tilted and damaged during transport. I can't say that for certain, but something clearly went wrong between the restaurant and my door. The pizza itself may have been good fresh out of the oven, but the delivery experience completely ruined it.

I liked the pepperoni more than the sausage one. There's nothing more comforting than pepperoni on pizza. The spicy sausage I don't think was fully baked, so it wasn't completely done in the center. Toppings fell and it was floppy. The meatballs I don't remember too much about except there was plenty of sauce with them. Definitely would come back for the pepperoni. Not so much the spicy sausage. we ordered for doordash pickup but they get really busy so we still had to wait 15min past our estimate. it's takeout only so we waited outside, luckily it wasn't too cold. we got garlic knots, the funghi pie, and the margherita pie with sausage the knots could do with more garlic flavor. the pies had decent flavor but the cheese wasn't stretchy, so wouldn't call it a "new york dupe"

TLDR: I really wasn't expecting to like this pizza as much as I did. The crust was thin yet surprisingly crispy, meaning it passed the flop test and had a wonderful undercarriage. Everything about this slice felt fresh, high-quality, and delicious, and it didn't feel overly heavy (though I did feel the need to blot some of the olive oil off the top). JULIAN PIZZA (5/5) I got a slice of the JULIAN, with house-made sausage, kale, and lots of other good stuff. The sausage was some of the best sausage I've had on a pizza, and there was a generous amount of it. The kale seemed like it was fried (possibly naturally in the oven after all that olive oil was drizzled on top) so it added a great textural element. I would 100% come back to try some other flavors. read more

I was nearby Gioia Pizzeria and decided to give them a try. I got a slice of the Julian and the pizza was really tasty! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The shop is small with just a couple seats, so it's mainly a takeout spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However you can easily just take the pizza to the Patricia's Green park and enjoy it there. I would definitely recommend them for pizza and look forward to coming back if I'm in Hayes Valley again! read more

Oh dear God! The gabagool slice was heavenly! The saltiness along with the crispy crust, and spice level made my day! Julian slice was good but boy oh boy, nothing compares to the gabagool slice. Definitely have to go again and hope the gabagool isn't seasonal. The Julian slice had some greens which made me feel healthy and the slice would have been delicious on its own but I was biased since I had the gabagool first. Ended up in the area and couldn't decide where to go. Realized Gioia had been on my radar and had never tried it before so finally stopped in. Chill pizza shop with slices ready to be warmed up, a few salad options and grab and go drinks in the fridge. You can also order whole pies. There's only one table for four and a cushioned window seat. Ordered the Salciccia and Julian slices. As we were waiting the window seat opened up and we took it over. Slices were ready relatively fast and were absolutely delicious! Service was friendly quick and easy and patient while we deliberated on which slices we wanted to try! The kale was crispy and complemented the other ingredients nicely on the Julian. The Salciccia was absolutely delicious thanks to the pickled jalapeños. 10/10 recommended and will definitely be back. If no seats available you can always take your pizza to nearby Patricia's Green to enjoy out in the park. read more
Still a solid lunch pizza spot - they raised their prices and slices got a little bit smaller but hey! It is what it is. I'm willing to spend 75 cents more and the unsizable smaller slice for the taste and ease! I always think the service is great because the pizza comes out timely and there are no frills. My slice hit the spot. I didn't have a lot of time and walked to the park to enjoy. It came out hot and the thin crust was nice and crispy, New York style. The big-city ordering with the gruff cashier at the end of the confusing line through people waiting in the cramped space was also an on-brand sort of adventure, and not in a very fun way - but good food conquers all and i enjoyed the slice. Was in the mood for a white slice and so tried their Julian. Even reheated it was super fresh, tasty and filled with lots of different flavors. At times you taste the garlic, or the Calabrian sausage or the high quality cheese or a bit of the chili flakes. Honestly a top tier slice and really reasonable price wise for the quality you get. I'm not sure if this is affiliated with Gioia's pizza in Berkeley which was my favorite pizza place when I lived there. I assume it is because the menu items are the same. We did enjoy the Funghi and pepperoni pizza. Each slice is very large and filling with fresh ingredients used. It's pretty good. This pizza surprised me so much, I was not expecting it to be so good! It's a cozy little shop in Hayes Valley with one table for four and a window seat with no table, so unless you get there at the right time, be prepared to eat standing up. You can buy pizza by the slice or whole pies, and they have a variety of salads and such if you're not in the mood for pizza. My friend and I split an Avocado & Arugula Salad, and I got a slice of the Julian. My friend got the Margherita but they accidentally slightly burned her slice so the employee gave her it and another one for free, very kind! So we split the extra piece. Avocado & Arugula Salad: 4/5, good balance of ingredients. I liked the sweetness of the raisins with the arugula, and the ripe avocado was sliced beautifully. For $15 though, I'm not sure it was worth over 3x the price of a slice of pizza. Julian: 5/5, the kale was so crispy and delicious, not too stiff at all (which is the main problem I have with kale). Great sausage as well. The crust was crispy without being dry at the bottom so that the pizza could hold its own shape well. Pleasantly surprised! I just came back from a trip to New York, and I honestly liked this piece more than some of the pizza places I had there. Margherita: 4/5, same great crust and pizza quality as the Julian. The basil tasted fresh, and the tomatoes of the sauce were plump and flavorful. Overall, greatly surprised by how much I enjoyed this place! I would definitely be back for a cheap, quick slice of delicious pizza or ordering a pizza to go. Definitely check this place out! read more

Y'all, when I say hype is real I mean hype is REAL. Some of the best pizza I've had in SF. Hayes Valley is where it's at. Got their classic Margherita pizza and their asparagus pesto (sounds interesting but tastes amazing) for their red sauce they use special plum tomato's & it's game changer. Fresh ingredients, great flavor & great customer service. They have a small seating area but mostly a grab & go spot. Very NY style. Also their Parmesan topping is fresh Parmesan! I was greeted by the smell of pizza being baked literally as you stroll around Hayes street! As someone who grew up in New York, I've been on the hunt for pizza that doesn't break the bank AND reminds me of home! Gioia is very very close to that! Being a pizza connoisseur aside, their pizza is relatively cheap per slice in the Bay Area (literally $4 for a speciality slice!). You won't be disappointed because each slice is bursting with flavor! There's something that makes New York pizza unique so I'll say that it does remind me of a decent slice, could be the crust being slightly burnt, the flour, the toppings, water, etc! My favorite has to be the Julian slice it comes with sausages, kale, garlic, tomato's and cheese! Top it off with their in house Parm and pepper shakers to your hearts content as if it were like Olive Garden!! Overall, the establishment is hole in the wall ish so don't expect a sit down experience! There is some seating near their bay windows and one standing table! So take your pizza out and eat it at the iconic Hayes park. The only thing barring me from my experiences here being top notch is their service. I would say I frequent the place more as of late but one of the girlies is kind of scarey to approach, just her though, everyone else is lovely :). read more

Gioaia always saves me when I'm hungry and nearby the area, it's getting late, and I need something fast and filling and tasty. This is a little shop in Hayes with just one table but a good selection of grab-and-go slices (maybe not as many if you're vegetarian though). They've got that thin slice pizza with a nice crunch in the crust, slightly gooey cheese, and a good sauce-to-dough ratio. Although not ij the league of a true NY slice, it's probably one of the closer ones in SF. They have fast service and I've chowed these babies down while walking on the street lol. read more
Pizza is pretty good. I got 3 slices that run around $5 each. Although that's a bit expensive I like to try new things. :) Service was nice aswell. I got a pepperoni slice, the Julian Slice and a squash summer edition pizza I can't recall the name. They were all pretty good. I was so hungry I couldn't snap a proper photo of all of them. The Nectarines were so fresh. I'm so excited to eat the salad. parking is street and it's very crowded so be weary of that. read more
A small place but offer pizza with big flavors. They only got two seating area we got the one next to the window we got stared at by people every time we take a bite of their addictive pizza. They have friendly staff willing to share recommendations. They have a condiment section near the counter with a water fountain which is neat thing for customers. Lots of people getting orders to take home. A very busy pizza place in this cute neighborhood. Music surrounds the entire place. Tall ceilings,wall pictures and plenty of boxes of pizza on display. This place is legit and the price is great! $4.50 a slice in this economy?! Such a deal. Ordered the Julian and the funghi. Takes 5-10 min for them to heat it up. They have one table inside so it's definitely a takeout only kinda place. Parking is tough in this area. Would recommend! read more

Can't go wrong with formaggio! Their homemade sausage is also amazing! I prefer it without the jalapeños though.
