I was looking for a quick and light lunch and came across Gioia. They do pizza by the slice and have an assortment of flavors. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a small little shop, barely any seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is real fast and the pizza is delicious.

Amazing NY style pizza right in SF! Huge slices for 5.25 per slice regardless of what flavor you get. They heat up the slice for you on the spot. Flavors changes on a daily basis. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's one dine in table.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Love the asparagus flavor pizza, they drizzle pesto on top. Julian was also delicious. I prefer the white base pizzas.

I got a slice of funghi and it was great! I think this place is better for a late night bite to safisfy cravings. Service is fast and casual. Crust is thin and not super crispy, but not chewy as well. No complaints.

Slice of pizza 5.25 and cannot $8. Cannot- they make it fresh, pipe the filling with chocolate chip. Sprinkle pistachio bits and powder sugar. Pizza was Fungi. So good. Friendly service.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute spot in Hayes Valley.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As per usual, very difficult to find parking here especially since I came on a Sunday evening. My husband double parked while I ran in and came out with 4 slices of pizza ($5.25/slice) and an aloha vibes beer for just under $25 thanks to a free slice from their loyalty rewards. I loved the variety of flavors they had per slice. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The seating area inside is very small - only 1 table and a seat by the window.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is definitely more of a togo vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They also mentioned my beer had to be to go as well, so unsure if I was allowed to drink it had I stayed within the restaurant? Overall, cute spot and tasty pizza. Not sure I need to go back, but it was a good try!

Gioia Pizzeria is a must if you're craving legit NY-style slices in San Francisco. We ordered several different kinds of slices and every single one hit the mark. Thin crust, perfectly crisp on the bottom, chewy fold, and just the right balance of sauce and cheese. Exactly what you want from a true New York slice. At $5 per slice, the value is solid, especially for the quality and size. Each slice felt fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, whether you're grabbing a quick bite or mixing and matching a few to try different flavors. The variety makes it easy to please everyone, and nothing felt overdone or greasy. Service was fast, the vibe was casual and no-frills in the best way, and it's the kind of place you can stop into anytime and know you're getting something good. If you're missing classic New York pizza or just want a consistently great slice, Gioia absolutely delivers. Will definitely be back.

I love discovering new places, and especially when it's for what most would consider to be basics. There is absolutely nothing basic about Gioia pizzeria. It's anything but. This is probably one of the most authentic Italian pizzerias that I have found in San Francisco. The customer service is top-notch, and the staff will make you feel at home from the moment you walk in the door, to being seated, and your mule is brought to the table. Things to immediately love about Gioia's. You can either order a whole pizza or pizza by the slice. I haven't found many places that offer pizza by the slice and have so many options to choose from. Diners tip: order the garlic knots! You will thank me later. They are light, fluffy, and each bite is a taste bomb. They are garlic, cheesy, and pull part so easily. You literally cannot stop eating them. For me, I would drive back to the city just to have the garlic knots. The last time I had anything comparable to this was that one of my favorite pizza places in Los Angeles. So I'm pretty excited to have found something a lot closer to home. They serve it with a marinara sauce that is tasty, but I actually would not minded if it had a little bit more kick to it. We ordered a couple of different slices so that we could try a few things out. Funghi pizza slice. The mushrooms were absolutely delectable and the cheese was perfectly melted in the combo together was absolutely deliciousness in each bite. Specialty gabagool pizza. The pepperoni was crispy and it had that nice bite of spice that makes you want another bite over and over again. This is that absolutely perfect pizza. The ricotta mail out the pepperoni and the combo together. I didn't know pizza could taste this delicious! Both pizzas had that perfect crest that was both crispy, crunchy with just the right amount of that doughy goodness. It's exactly what Pizza should be! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great customer service. Great atmosphere. It's a great place for date night, family time, or just hanging in with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] This place is so deserving of five stars! Go for the great food, the great Customer Service and a great experience! Remember to order the garlic knots!

One of my favourite pizzerias in SF! They serve thin crust pizzas as well as individual slices. The pizza leans to the thinner side, probably even thinner than a typical NYC pizza slice and not as crispy. They have unique flavours that are on the healthier side and their veggie options are delicious. I especially like the fungi pizza. I do wish they had more non veg variety like a traditional NYC pizzeria. The service is always quick and friendly.

Ordered delivery from the Hayes St. location last night and the pizza arrived looking like it had been carried sideways the entire trip. The entire pizza had shifted in the box, slices were folded over, grease was splattered all over the lid, and it was no longer hot by the time it arrived. What made this even more frustrating was the amount paid for delivery. In addition to the food cost, I paid a $3.99 delivery fee, a $5.70 service fee, and tipped the driver $5.50. For that kind of added cost, I think it's reasonable to expect the pizza to arrive level, intact, and hot. The restaurant is about 4 miles from my house, and it appeared the delivery was made by bicycle, which may explain why the pizza ended up tilted and damaged during transport. I can't say that for certain, but something clearly went wrong between the restaurant and my door. The pizza itself may have been good fresh out of the oven, but the delivery experience completely ruined it.

    SALSICCIA PIE ($28) - 14"

Date: Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025 Part of: 2 Meal: Dinner Delivery Ordered: via DoorDash Time Placed: around 5:30pm Time Arrived: about 45 mins later Delivered to: Outer Richmond *PEPPERONI PIE ($28) - 14" *SALSICCIA PIE ($28) - 14" *Meatballs ($16) The hubby and I were talking about pizza. I wanted to try a new spot, so after looking thru DD, I picked Gioia. I wanted to try a few pies, but I had to limit it to 2 since it was only the two of us. I liked the pepperoni more than the sausage one. There's nothing more comforting than pepperoni on pizza. The spicy sausage I don't think was fully baked, so it wasn't completely done in the center. Toppings fell and it was floppy. The meatballs I don't remember too much about except there was plenty of sauce with them. Definitely would come back for the pepperoni. Not so much the spicy sausage. Tho I did want to try the mushroom pizza and the kale pizza. Next time, I'll swap one out. REVIEW #3822

This is your average New York slice style pizza. Order, pay, wait for your pizza, eat! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Considering it was a Friday the place was packed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Because of lent we only ordered the non meat pizzas. My favorite was the classic cheese. Funghi was a lil too much but to each their own! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is not a sit down restaurant they only have one table inside directly next to the line.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would recommend If you want a quick bite.

we ordered for doordash pickup but they get really busy so we still had to wait 15min past our estimate. it's takeout only so we waited outside, luckily it wasn't too cold. we got garlic knots, the funghi pie, and the margherita pie with sausage the knots could do with more garlic flavor. the pies had decent flavor but the cheese wasn't stretchy, so wouldn't call it a "new york dupe"

I've been to Tony's a few times, and the first two times, my hub and I have left raving about it and telling all our friends and fam to get to Tony's. It's a l w a y s busy, even on weekdays, even in the middle of the work day. Reservations are smart! Parking is not easy but not impossible in the area. We live in the city so we always take public transportation. Within the last 6 months, I've discovered a gluten and dairy allergy that really took me down. Without getting into the gnarly details, it wasn't fun and I've been grieving pizza since this new discovery. So why would I go to Tony's with this new allergy? Because! I read that they offer a gluten free, dairy free pizza. Insane I know, but yet they offer it and I was PUMPED. When asking the waiter what I can get based on my needs, he responded to me like I was a war criminal. He was a Caucasian gentleman with brown hair. He raised his voice for all the diners to hear about my allergies, told me I couldn't get any pizza, and when I pointed out that there were options, he told me "I'll triple check if this is possible for you." When he came back and confirmed it was possible, he tells me they can do a gluten free pizza with vegan cheese and vegan pepperoni. It felt like the moment he heard 'gluten' and 'dairy,' he mentally categorized me as 'vegan' and stopped looking for ways to make the experience enjoyable. Yikes! Lol I fully recognize - girl, why did you go to a pizza spot with a gluten and dairy allergy? Yes I am not okay for this hahah but also I felt pretty embarrassed and treated really poorly. This experience doesn't reflect Tony's as a whole, but it was just a terrible interaction and that waiter made it real clear that he has no patience for anything that is inconvenient during his work shift.

The garlic and clam was a great taste, but it's hard to enjoy what essentially felt like a slice of focaccia that was reheated for 15 seconds in a microwave. Again, I have to believe something was terribly wrong with our order, especially after looking at the reviews and seeing the Dave Portnoy review. Maybe it was placed in a cold oven? Maybe someone put a bunch of slices in the oven at different times and accidentally pulled out the newest addition to the oven and served it to us?? Is it all hype??!! Unfortunately, there ended up being an issue with part of our order, but before we even had the chance to say anything, the team had already taken care of it for us. That honestly stood out to me more than anything. There was no awkward back and forth, no need for us to complain or ask for anything. The pizza has charred edges like Neapolitan which adds a nice smokey flavor. The crust has zero flop and a nice golden crust on top. Sauce has a tough of sweetness. I also enjoyed their use of fresh basil and the grated Parmigiano-Reggiano they throw on at the end. It's kinda like a new york slice, but a little gourmet? Very tasty for sure. Critiques: First off, each slice is $6-7, which is a bit steep. Maybe times have changed, but this is def not a budget meal, especially if you are eating multiple slices. Second, some of their already crispy slices have been sitting on display for some time and completely cooled down. When these slices are then reheated, there is a bit of an overcooked taste? Lastly, they only have a few topping options and the quantity of toppings on each slice (especially protein) is pretty sparse. I also ordered a slice of the Sicilian as well to mix things up. It was good, but the crust was just a touch too greasy for me.

When we arrived, our waitress didn't seem very knowledgeable about the beers, but honestly, that wasn't a big deal. My boyfriend ordered his pizza while I was still deciding what I wanted. His pizza came out very quickly, which we had no complaints about. The issue started when we had barely been seated for about 15 minutes. I went to the restroom, and while I was gone, the waitress approached my boyfriend while he literally had pizza in his mouth and a full beer in front of him and told him, "My chef said to charge you." He was confused but said okay because it made us wonder if they were closing. I checked the hours, and they weren't supposed to close until 10 PM--it was barely around 9 PM. I HADN'T EVEN ORDERED MY FOOD YET. I was still planning on ordering my own pizza, dessert, and a drink. Instead, we suddenly felt like we were being rushed to pay and leave. What made the situation even more unprofessional was that she left the payment device at our table for Apple Pay and then actually left the restaurant. She was the only server we had seen around, so we were basically left sitting there with the payment device and no server. We eventually had to get up ourselves to find someone so we could ask for boxes and return their payment device. No one had even asked whether we needed boxes, wanted anything else, or were finished ordering. My boyfriend didn't even finish his beer because at that point the entire vibe had changed and we just wanted to leave. We had driven an hour specifically to try this restaurant and were genuinely excited about it, which made the experience even more disappointing. I completely understand if a server's shift is ending, but there is a professional way to handle that--especially when customers are still actively eating and one person at the table hasn't even ordered yet. Someone could have simply explained that her shift was ending and introduced whoever would be taking over our table. Instead, we were made to feel like we needed to pay and leave. Unfortunately, the service completely overshadowed the experience. We really wanted to like this place, but being treated this way after driving an hour to come here was extremely disappointing and unprofessional.
