a pizza with mushrooms and cheese

Great pizzas and service, wished they had their carpaccio still, my friend highly recommended that and I really wanted to try it :( hope you bring it back

Delicious pizza and great craft beers! I've been to this specific location a couple times now but I've also had food from their university location as well. Servers are always friendly and polite. They have a great list of craft beers on tap and ciders. My favourite thing here is their house made sausage pizza with the chili oil. Dipping the pizza into a plate of that chili oil one of the greatest pleasures in life. Would totally recommend for group settings (as my boyfriend has had his birthday party here already once) or just for a casual hang out.

Drink with gin, blackberries and "fizz"

I hate giving this place such a "meh" review, but I honestly didn't think it was over-the-top amazing. While the wood fire pizza was good, we had a few hiccups during our visit here. This place is my friends favorite pizza place in Toronto, and I can see why. They offer salads, wood fire pizzas and delicious-sounding drinks. We went to the location downtown which didn't have an intimate feel and definitely felt like a "modern" decor type place. The ambiance of this location didn't reflect the way the menu was set up or how I picture a wood-fire/Italian restaurant to be. We had pretty less-than-stellar service when it came to drinks. A mutual friend ordered a dry gin martini with extra olives, but they kept making her a dirty martini which is not what she asked for. In my mind a dry gin martini should be clear and not cloudy. All she wanted was olives in it, not olive juice, which they kept doing so it was very salty. A dry gin martini should not be salty at all. We ordered some arugula salads and I ordered the Margherita pizza. The food was fine: I don't want to make it seem like this place was garbage. That isn't the case. I've just had better wood-fire pizza and salad in Ann Arbor and other places. What I will say is the person who delivered our pizzas to the table told me that mine was not up to the chef's standards so they were remaking mine. I did appreciate that, but it was still pretty lackluster when I got it: soggy and droopy and not very crispy, not a ton of cheese on it, or basil and very heavy on the tomato sauce. I'm not sure I'd go back here, but if I did, I think I want to try a different location to see if it's different.

Housemade sausage pizza at the back and duck confit pizza at the front

I finally got to try Libretto after hearing people rave about it and I'm completely satisfied! We made reservations ahead of time for a Friday night (since restaurants in the king west area are usually super crowded on a Friday night), and we got seated right away. The boyfriend and I were so excited to try this place that we actually already looked at the menu before coming and knew exactly what we wanted LOL! For appetizers, we chose the buttermilk fried calamari as recommended in many reviews and it was worth the hype. The calamaris were tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. On the bottom was a layer of pumpkin (?) sauce. Both of us really enjoyed this! For the pizzas, we got the Duck Confit pizza and the Housemade sausage pizza. Both pizzas were pesto-sauce based. The duck confit pizza was a little disappointing despite it being one of the popular pizzas here. The duck was a bit dry and I wasn't really a fan of the pear slices on there. Parts of it also tasted too salty for my liking. The sausage pizza on the other hand was amazingly delicious! The flavour was not as strong as the duck pizza. Both of us really enjoyed that. We came here as a belated Valentine's Day dinner and overall it was an enjoyable experience. I felt like this was more of a hangout/casual place rather than a romantic date night place since the music can be a little loud. I definitely see how Libretto is worth the hype and I'll be back to try more pizzas!

My friends have raved about this place and I wanted to try the mushroom white pizza after seeing the enticing photos of it. We were a group of 10 on a weekday evening. The service was pretty slow. An especially strange thing was that we mentioned to our server that we wanted to order, they acknowledged this but proceeded to disappear for a stretch of time. I tried the charcuterie board and the mushroom white pizza with vegan mozzarella. I have to say that there wasn't much cheese on the pizza; it felt like a flat bread with some dollops of cheese, mushrooms, thyme, and full pieces of garlic. I don't know about you but full pieces of roasted garlic are not extremely appetizing for me. But on the bright side, at least they have lactose free cheese options!

    Calamari

Sure, when you think of Italian food you think of pizza. However, I would say my favourite parts of this dining experience were the sides: calamari and the arancini. On a Sunday evening the atmosphere was quiet-ish which was good even with the seven parties in the room. We were able to have a conversation without yelling. The food came hot and it tasted great - textures and flavours were balanced and showed variety. When it comes to the pizza, you're getting a very Neapolitan style which means thinner crust, light yet flavourful toppings and that burnt goodness, however it can also leave you wanting just a little more if eaten on an empty stomach. Luckily my friend and I shared this meal and it made the perfect dinner.

This is one of the newest locations of the Toronto pizza chain. Definitely not expecting it to be in some dark alley way but that's okay. The food was great. They sat us at the bar because my friend and I didn't have a reservation. Place is clean, lights were a bit dim from my preference but I think that's part of the cozy ambience they want to portray of the place. We weren't very hungry but I really wanted to try their pizza. We got one to share: Ontario proscuitto and arugula. Pizza dough is good. Too much arugula on top but that's okay since they're just greens that you can eat separately. That chili oil though. Just drizzle that in the pizza! Definitely good pizza and I'll eat here again!!

Gord and I had supper this evening at Pizzeria Libretto. It opened in the fall. Pizzas are baked in an 850F oven for 90 seconds. We both ordered pizzas. I got the Nduja Sausage pizza. I've had it at their Ossington location and enjoyed it. It was delicious! Gord ordered the special pizza ... it had salami, red peppers, basil, mozzarella cheese and gorgonzola cheese. He said it was really good. Stephanie was our server. She was friendly and attentive and took excellent care of us.

The room is small, and the service was friendly. We shared a Caesar salad to start, which was simple but good. We had the duck confit white pizza and the Iberian red pizza. They were both quite tasty, and I reheated them the next morning on the frying pan for breakfast! They had some decent wines to choose from as well. Overall, we were both impressed with the good simple pizza. I think we've both kind of reached a saturation point with pretentious pizza spots, so this was a nice find in the middle of the financial district.

The food overall was fantastic: Caesar Salad - 4/5 very good, with crispy prosciutto and shaved Parmesan. The dressing had a tangy kick but was on the lighter side. Spaghetti Seafood - 5/5 YUMMY! There were large tiger shrimp, clams, mussels, calamari, and salmon in a white wine tomato sauce. So good, loved the variety of seafood. One of better seafood pasta dishes I've had. Mushroom Mafalda - 5/5 HEAVEN! Mafalda pasta with four different mushrooms: cremini, oyster, portobello, and porcini. It's cooked in a truffle cream sauce and is a mushroom lover's dream! Absolutely delicious. The server was friendly but not attentive. She forgot a beer we ordered. Aside from that the food was overall so good I would most definitely come back again.

This place gets a solid 4.5/5 for its authentic southern Italian food and very friendly & attentive…read moreservice. It has a very homey, old-school Italian American restaurant ambience - the opposite of the stylish, hipster or touristy restaurant vibe. Apparently this restaurants gets a lot of regulars, and I could see why. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're transported back to the 1960s with the red-and-white checkered tablecloths, red chairs, old-style wax candles, brick walls, and a large black-and-white photo of an Italian family on the wall (perhaps the founder or owner's?). I could see this place being a movie set for films that need an old, classic Italian American restaurant as a setting. In addition to the décor, I love the 1960s music being played in the background. Size-wise, the inside of the restaurant isn't that big so it feels very cozy. It can get very busy and crowded after 5 pm, as most people seem to come here for dinner. We came during lunch hour and we were the only patrons there. The southern Italian touches are very apparent in most of their dishes - with heavy reliance on olive oil, tomato-based sauces (especially in the fish and seafood dishes), fresh seafood, herbs, peppers, and vegetables such as eggplant. This is in contrast to northern Italian cuisine that is characterized by rich, creamy dishes using butter, lard, and cheeses, and puts more emphasis on rice, polenta, and meat-heavy dishes (where as seafood is more prevalent in the south). Dishes that we tried: 1) Baccala (Pan-Seared Black Cod) - This was the BEST and my favourite dish here. The black cod had a crispy exterior and flaky interior, and came with roasted mini potatoes and mixed vegetables (zucchini, red bell pepper, Brussels sprouts, eggplant) roasted with garlic -- such a well-rounded and wholesome dish. The roasted mini potatoes were so flavourful, and the vegetables had a nice char. I asked for the puttanesca sauce on the side, as the fish was already flavourful on its own without the sauce. But the sauce was better than I expected - it contained actual whole chunks of cherry tomatoes and olives. 2) Steamed Mixed Fish & Seafood in Tomato Sauce - This dish wasn't on the website menu, but it was on the printed menu in the restaurant. It reminded me of cioppino (Italian-American mixed seafood stew with tomato sauce, herbs, and spices). It came presented as wrapped inside aluminum tin foil, which the server then opened in front of us on the table with steam coming out. The fish was salmon, and seafood consisted of mussels and shrimps. This dish was just alright. For almost $50, there wasn't much seafood. 3) Pizza Funghi - I liked the very thin and crispy crust, and the sliced roasted mushrooms as toppings, but I wasn't a fan of the "truffled honey" they added on top of the pizza. I didn't taste any truffle, and the honey made it very sweet. Not a fan of sweet pizza. 4) SIDES: Rapini, Brussels Sprouts, Mushrooms - They got bonus points for being able to customize the sides. They didn't have asparagus that day, so they substituted it for steamed Brussels sprouts with garlic instead - which was heavenly. The Brussels sprouts weren't overcooked at all, and they were generous with the garlic (anything with extra garlic gets extra thumbs up from me). The rapini came out chopped with a side of lemon wedge. Mushrooms weren't on the menu as a side, but we asked and they were able to make a simple side of just mushrooms. Overall the vegetables got 9/10. The chef was very friendly as he came out and talked to us. The server was extremely attentive. Great service overall.

We had 3 good pizzas and salads. We always have good food and service. It is very comfortable.read more
