Disclaimer: I love Papa Gino's pizza. Not ironically. Not as some guilty pleasure I feel compelled to defend. I genuinely love it. The hand feel, the specific chew, the way the crust gives under your fingers. I could identify it just by touch, blindfolded in a lineup of a hundred pies. It's wired into me from countless visits over the last 30+ years, born in the taste of being young and hungry and not overthinking anything about quality, just taste and filling you up. So when I tell you that Pizzeria Romana, located right by the Lincoln Mall, is just like Papa Gino's dressed up for the prom, understand that I mean it as the highest compliment. This was a new stop this year on the Lord of the Pies circuit. We walked in with zero expectations. The space is warm without trying too hard. Black and white checkered tablecloths. Italian countryside murals on the walls. The staff greets you like they're happy you showed up, which is rarer than it should be. The cheese pizza is where this place reveals itself. Same Papa Gino's geometry: thin, sturdy, dependable. But elevated with ingredients that actually taste fantastic. The cheese blend brings provolone into the conversation, adding sharp, tangy notes that cut through the richness. Everything works. The crust has that holds its crispness on top, great chew in the middle, and just enough cornmeal texture underneath to remind you this thing came from a real oven. The pepperoni, though. It overwhelms. Too much salt, too much grease, too much of everything. It doesn't play well with others. It storms onto the plate and dominates, drowning out all those subtle cheese notes that made the plain slice sing. Stick with the cheese. Let the fundamentals do their work. What Pizzeria Romana understands, what Papa Gino's always understood, ipizza doesn't need to reinvent itself to be good. It needs good ingredients, technique, and the restraint not to screw it up with unnecessary flourishes. This is a nice neighborhood spot where you can bring a date or grab a pie with friends without pretension. The best thing a pizza can do is remind you why you fell in love with it in the first place. Pizzeria Romana in Lincoln is one of the best pizza restaurants around. I used to frequesnt this location often, but hadn't been in a while. It was a treat to visit last week with two friends and it was so delicious that we finished every bite of our two pizzas and had none left to take home! Note: This is a counter service restaurant, and then the waitstaff delvers your order to the table. Even though we ordered at the counter, the waitstaff was friendly and attentive throughout our entire visit. They went above and beyond checking on us and making sure everything was perfect. We all started with the white sangria, which was perfect - It had a great amount of flavor and was beautifully served with a variety of fruit in the glass. For pizzas, we went with The Bianca and the Corina so we could try both a white and a red sauce. Both were absolutely delicious, with plenty of toppings and a crispy crust. Our pizzas were served piping hot and the ingredients were all very high quality. I'd definitely order both of them again. Pizzeria Romana in Lincoln has a variety of tables and booth for seating. It isn't a large place, but we had no problem getting a seat at 6:30 on a Thursday night. We saw lots of people come and go, and they seem to do quite a bit of takeout as well as dine in. I've come here a couple times now and I really enjoy this place! Their pizza is way up there on my list. We have a lot of choices around here, and they consistently make a great Neapolitan style pizza. My favorite is sausage and ricotta, with the Greek salad pizza as a close second. The crust is just perfection. The rosemary wings were amazing, recommended to anyone! I'm not a big fan of steak fries, but these were so addictive. We ordered a chicken Parm sandwich, and it was good, but the steak fries took the cake on that one! We couldn't stop eating them. The service was super kind and friendly. I normally order a large cheese pizza with mushrooms and ricotta cheese from Pizzeria Romana, which is my personal favorite. Everything about it to me is perfect--the stone fired crust, the amount of sauce and cheese, the seasoning, and the fact that this place is of the few pizzerias that offer ricotta cheese as a topping! The front of the building is spectacular, specially at night with the all the lighting effects and the giant lit sign. The little details of the exterior architecture and landscaping is impressive, as well. Very attractive for outdoor seating in the summertime! The service is not the warmest, but I just ignore it. This place came highly recommended. Small space with a couple of booths to sit. You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. I do wish for the first time I tried a more simple/classic pizza but instead tried the special - white bbq chicken pizza. Very heavy on the bbq but overall pretty solid. Next time will certainly try a more classic type of pizza. They do also sell by the slice and sell beer and wine. I tried the sangria and it was good and decent size. Came out of the movies in Lincoln hungry tonight and wasn't in the mood to travel too far but was feeling the urge for pizza. Been trying to expose my son to different pizza joints and figured he'd enjoy theirs. I haven't been in here probably 2-3 years but thankfully their product hasn't changed. An offshoot of the Luciano's (Route 1 Wrentham) restaurant empire... they do, in my opinion, value putting out a consistently above average meal. Asked them to not sprinkle Parmesan cheese on the pizza when it comes out of the oven (they tend to do this) as I'm not a fan of Parmesan. Pepperoni was alright, but the mozzarella is stretchy and filling and I called it quits after just two slices. Nice crispy crust and just enough char on the bottom. Not that crowded either (thankfully!) at 7:00pm on a Saturday night, unlike the adjacent Trattoria which looked completely slammed. Peroni, bottle of soda, large pie $26 and going home with some leftover slices for next day. Didn't have room for dessert but they've got some great stuff in the case at counter read more

Disappointing. Hard to believe this is owned by Luciano's and Trattoria Romana. Which are both excellent restaurants. The dining area is neat, clean, intimate and comfortable except the room temp was too cold. They also only have one unisex restroom. Soda is bottled and kept in a self service refrigerator however the soda wasn't as cold as I would have liked. The service at the counter was fine, and prices were where they should be for the type of restaurant. I found the pizza to have too much cheese, almost no tomato sauce and the crust seemed overly hard. We ordered caramelized onions but they were barely caramelized. read more

This is the least formal of the Romana empire off of 116. The Pizzeria is a fast/casual atmosphere compared to the formal Trattoria, and the semi casual sit down Ginger. Dress code is anything, and there were a few families with young kids inside. Pizzeria Romana is a nicer version of your typical town pizza shop. Their pizzas come from a flaming wood oven that provides a char flavor on the bottom. Their flavors are also more "Italian" than your typical pizza shop. I ordered the pizza special (White pizza with fresh garlic, creamed spinach, grilled chicken, mozzarella, and feta which I left off). Roomie ordered a BBQ chicken calzone. My pizza was very tasty, and was a good size. I actually never had a white pizza before, and stole a little of the marinara that came from the calzone. The BBQ calzone was only okay, there was a lot of cheese in it and an overwhelming amount of onions in the center. One thing to note about the food was that it was pretty greasy. By the time we got to the second half of the calzone, it was already soggy from grease. I wiped the bottom of my pizza to remove grease as well. I guess this wasn't an issue since we dined in, but if we did take out, maybe the pizza would have been too soggy by then. At Pizzeria Romana, you'll spend a few extra dollars compared to the cheap local pizza place, but it's worth it. You'll leave having tried a new kind of pizza, and you won't reek of grease after. read more

Should Be Better The craze of Mr Canova's restaurants and smaller eating establishments is taking over in southern New England. His restaurants and eateries are held to a higher standard and this pizza place just doesn't meet them. This pizza place has a weird setup, you order at the counter and they bring you the good. So trying to have a drink with your meal feels strange. Tip: Get Take Out As for the pizza it's not bad but it is nothing to run home about either. First off, RI is one of the most gluten free friendly states in the nation. I have never seen so many restaurants offer gluten free happiness to their customers, even after living in Chicago and Las Vegas. Pizzeria Romana is no exception, and I thoroughly enjoyed their food while I was in Lincoln, RI for five weeks for work. My waistline? Not so much. It's hard to find good GF pizza, but PR has a great recipe. Also, the pizza is woodfired which makes it even more delicious. I had all different toppings on the pizza, and the menu clearly lists which items I can eat. Each employee understood the gluten free allergy, and I never became ill after eating at this restaurant. Also, they had other GF options, but if I'm going to a pizza joint, I'm getting the pizza! The only thing I wished they did was jazz the pizza up a little bit. Maybe a little more seasoning somewhere in the pizza to just give it that extra flare. The customer service at the desk was a little scattered at times and lacking, but that's okay because whenever I called to make an order it was easy, quick and the employee was great. I heard that they misquote their delivery times, but I just walked over to the restaurant from the hotel because I need to pre-burn some of those calories! Even though it is a smaller menu, it is good quality food. The restaurant is small but they have a patio area, and I kinda like the close family feel of PR. I'm rating this place a 4. Some may not, but I? Yes (for now). Why? Because I dream about their goat cheese and carmelized onion pizza at least once a week. I'm a massive fan of goat cheese and have been unable to find another pizza place in the area that offers it as a pizza topping option. With that said, I LOVE that pizza and it deserves an extra star and a half alone. The downside is that it's very cramped inside. If you're lucky and it's warm enough outside, you can grab a spot outside under one of their snazzy colorful tent-covered tables but you're almost better off ordering take out. Since the pizzas are all all made in that amazing brick oven, it can often take quite a while to get the pizza, I typically order prior to getting there, so it's half pickup/half dine-in. Having a 5 year old daughter doesn't give me the luxury of sitting down and relaxing, so the food better be near ready when I get there. Another draw is that despite seemingly like your average pizza shop, I love the decor AND their wine offering! A pizza shop that offers wine? SOLD. Again, I haven't tried too many things on the menu but from what I have tried, I enjoy and have had mostly good experiences there. Yes folks, Pizzeria Romana has some pretty awesome real bone-in-chicken wings. I like the teriyaki. Their pizza is delicious... if you like this kind of pizza. I know you KWIM. Some of you like thick crust, or thin crust, deep dish, folded! This pizza is best with not too many heavy toppings as it does have a very thin delicate crust. I usually order one of the suggestions from the menu instead of going with something I would typically order from my pizza guy down the road, cuz this ain't no typical pizza! :) If thin pizza isn't your thing, try a calzone. We were limited on time before catching a movie, so decided to stay local to the cinema and check out this place. It's small and seems to do a huge take-out business. It's real cozy inside, despite the distraction of people coming in and out to pick up their pizza. It's an order-at-the-counter kind of place. We grabbed menus and the last available table. It was actually two small tables pushed together. Since it was busy, we were joined shortly by another couple, who were frequent flyers. I offered to share my menu, but they come every week and already knew what they wanted. They shared a bottle of wine and a pizza; each had a dinner salad. We were overwhelmed by the delicious pizza offerings and couldn't begin to agree or make a decision. So, we ordered sandwiches and vowed to return when we weren't rushed and try the pizza. I ordered the Eggplant and Chicken Parm Calzone, while my date chose the Meatball Parm Sandwich. Went with a couple of coworkers for lunch and I ordered a gluten free pizza. I wasn't expecting much because usually gluten free pizzas aren't as good as regular but let me tell you.... The pizza and wings were very good. The setup is not. You can order at the counter and bring it to a table, which I don't like at all. Or you can grab a seat at the bar, which is small and kind of in the middle of the place, so there's no real atmosphere. The waitstaff was very nice. Not the fastest movers, but not too bad. I have driven by here for years and never stopped in. We went to the movies across the street and my parents told me they liked their pizza so I made a reservation on OpenTable. Unbeknownst to me- there is Tratorria Roamana and Pizzeria Romana! Trat is more fine dining and that's who I made a reservation for! So, I went in and apologized for the confusion but we had a 5 year old with us so Pizzeria Romana was more the place for us! They thanked me! So Pizzeria Romana... Oh how cold it was inside! Order at the front counter and they deliver your food. There are not too many seats inside and about 4 tables outside. Of course we wanted to try their pizza and I usually can't say no to teriyaki wings so that's what we ordered. Since it was cold inside we made out way outside which was great. We had more privacy being that barely anyone chose outside and it wasn't a hot day! Our food arrived and their teriyaki sauce is DELICIOUS!!! Also, they have meat on them, not think some establishments. Their pizza, Just and FYI, comes with grated parmesan cheese on top. My 5 year old was very unhappy about this, but she tried it and ended up liking it. So incase you aren't a fan, make sure to request no parmesan! The pizza was thin and no complaints! Being a Mom and just passing useful tips along: take napkins into the bathroom- the hand dryer is as high as my head on the wall (and I am 5'5!) also, the faucet is really tight so even though some kids may be independent in the bathroom you might want to go to make sure those hands get washed! read more
