The BF and I came here because we had a LivingSocial coupon and being a big fan of pizza, I thought my bf would be in heaven. We were right. We step in on a snowy night and the atmosphere was cozy and laid back but still had some games going on and plenty of people in the place (which is always a good sign). We ordered a couple beers (small but decent selection) along with some spinach/artichoke dip, which came with warm pita bread and it was amazing! We also ordered a spinach pizza and added sausage on it (which ended up being a great idea) and it was tasty! Im a huge thin crust fan so I thought this pizza was perfect. It was light, crispy, but still very flavorful without being overly rich. Overall, we left feeling super full and still had half of the dip and pizza left. All in all we spent around $30 for a pizza, app and 2 beers for dinner AND lunch the next day. I'll be back! read more

I'm like Denise, in the sense that I pretty much know this place from doing Simpsons trivia here since 2013, and still do to this day. I've always had a great time here, so I figure it'd be appropriate to do for review #600. Anyway the specialty slices and salads I tried were decent(unfortunately you have to ask for these, from the chefs downstairs), that a friend of mine on my trivia team(and who's gluten-free) specially asked for them to prepare herself. The staff(cooks up to the bartenders) have always been great, and I agree with Denise about the thin crust slices being cooked well, but also not being overly greasy either. Surprised I didn't know there was slightly more beer selection downstairs, though it's okay since the bartenders went out of their way a few times in the past to grab a beer down there, that wasn't available upstairs. This review is about the service mostly, takeout to be more specific, called for an order, someone answer told me to wait to take my order, waited for more then 10 minutes (I usually don't but i was just curious listening to the conversation in the background) then they hang up the phone. Pizza is above average not the best it's just convenient little closer to my house. Advice: Train your staff better or hire more people if you don't have enough, otherwise don't advertise takeout and delivery. I would have told you this over the phone but you don't answer that often. read more

We immediately fell in love with Serio after moving to the area and have been several times for dine in and take out. Love the open loft bar space, service is usually pretty quick, and beer/cider options are good as well. But what really draws us in is the pizza! (Duh) My favorite is the Margarita con Carne with pepperoni. Serio makes some of the best, most consistent brick oven pizza I've found in the city. Their crust is medium thickness (my fave) and the sauce is delicious. Lunch time specials are well priced, and they also offer weeknight drink/food specials as well. I pass this place every day on my way to work, finally I had to try it. I have no complaints. 4 stars because the pizza was just okay. I don't have any complaints about the service. Overall, the experience was, meh. If you live in the area I think this place would be great for a pizza craving. Not really anything you need to go out of your way for. This place is very close to our apartment, so we come here a bit more often with friends. Pizza is not better than average, price a bit higher but I like to meet here with friends. Oh my gosh was this pizza goooood! We got there about 15 minutes before they opened on a Saturday for lunch, but they seated us promptly. Since we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time, we got our waiter's full attention, so the service was really good. As far as the menu goes, the pizzas here are thin crust Italian-style pizzas. They also have a few salads and pasta dishes, but I think their main offering is the pizzas. The pizza oven is right in back of the restaurant so you can see the yummy pizzas going in and out! We went with the garlic sticks as an appetizer and let me tell you, EVERYONE needs to eat these. They were to die for! Simple. But delectable! For our pizza, we went with the Margherita pizza and this too was excellent. It reminded me of the Margherita pizzas that I had while I was in Italy! It really brought back some nice memories and it was excellent. All-in-all, the service was great, atmosphere was nice, and the food was excellent. My boyfriend and I are sticklers about our pizza. Aside from my favorite pizza in the United States (which I will not disclose), we have our go-tos in the city for delivery - Pequods and Bartolis. We've tried Petes and Pats, and those are ok. Delivery and service was not great, so we stopped using them. So when the opportunity arises where I move into a new apartment, in a new neighborhood, I decide "let's try a new pizza place". We found this one as I am not too far from it, and after looking at the pizza toppings (the capicolla got us), we decided to give it a shot. Best. Decision. Of. The. Day. The pizza came, it was nice and hot, and we got down to eating. So. Good. Wood fire, different than Pequods and Bartolis. Had a great crust, not a lot of cheese which I like, a good amount of sauce to cheese ration, good amount of the 2 toppings that we got (not too little but not too much either). Overall, we were very impressed and will definitely be getting this again. Grubhub said it would take about 60-70 minutes, and it arrived within that timeframe.No complaints from us, other than we wish we had gotten this pizza sooner! read more

Holy crap, I can't believe I haven't Yelped about this place yet. These days when I'm asked about my favorite pizza in the city, I say Pizzeria Serio, hands down. (I got hooked on this pizza back when they had "Simpsons" trivia on Mondays.) The four-cheese specialty pizza they have on the menu is what makes this my favorite, though all of the pizza I've had there is fantastic. The goat-cheese appetizer is more than enough for three to four people. I always order that, though, and use the leftovers for lunch the next day. Not only is this great food, but the service has been exceptional as well. I can picture our waiters from the past three times, and each of them was courteous and attentive. Dine-in: yes. First time reviewing after many visits: Pizzeria Serio is one of my friend group's favorite places for thin crust pizza in the city. They have a great location in West Lakeview just down the street from Scooter's Frozen Custard (aka where you'll be getting dessert afterwards). They take reservations but you can almost always get a table, even on a weekend night, which is a godsend in Chicago. Really good craft beer list which normally features a particular brewery each month. They also typically have a $2 tallboy deal too. Tons of different pizzas on the menu. Most recently we had the Diavola, Devil in the White City and Meat Your Heart out, all good! You can build your own pizza too. Had my son's first birthday party here and it was fantastic. Working with Laura was a breeze. She was so accommodating, sweet, and provided excellent service (and conversation!). The pizza here is really excellent. I also like the atmosphere. Good beer. Welcoming to families. Gets busy on the weekend. My only issue involves take out. We recently picked up food. Unfortunately they have you go to the bartender to deal with pickup orders. I must say, as a customer, whenever places have you go to the bar for pickup, it kinda sucks. This place was no exception. On a busy Friday night, I am standing at the bar with 7 other people, trying to get the bartenders attention, simply to pay and pickup. He was not a friendly dude, and was also very busy. We had to wait 25 minutes past when our order was supposed to be done. I suspect they just hadn't made it. Another woman picking up actually had one of her orders done and another order not made at all. Hey, stuff happens and places get busy and occasionally screw up. I get it. In this case, the screw ups didn't seem to be handled well. I would highly recommend that you do not have the bartender handle pick up orders, particularly on a busy weekend. Just have people dedicated to only handle pick up orders. Maybe someone who only handles orders on the phone as well. And please, only have people working with positive attitudes. Your clientele seems mainly adults with kids and honestly, having to try to get a bartender to notice you and take care of things is a huge turnoff. We have all done that BS a million times and that is enough of a turnoff that I would have to at least think twice before ordering for take out next time. Ie: am I in the mood to deal with that crap tonight) So that's it. On the weekends you will likely have to wait. When it's busy, their take out procedure sucks and needs improvement. I had ordered once before from here and it didn't seem to be anything special for the price, but I stopped in recently for dinner and was thoroughly impressed. It was a Wednesday and they had half price bottles of wine and appetizers, we had the Goat Cheese appetizer which was fantastic, a bottle of the super tuscan wine which was a great value, and the pesto margherita pizza with Italian sausage added and it was awesome. One member of our party, a self-proclaimed Italian, thought there was too much pesto on the pizza, but rest of us with more refined palates disagreed. However, it probably could have done without the balsamic reduction, it was a little too sweet. In any case, I am glad I stopped in and will definitely be back. Called pizzeria serio tonight to ask if I could place an order for 330 delivery tomorrow as I am running the Chicago Marathon and hosting an after party two blocks from where the restaurant is (the bar allows outside food). Instead of trying to help me out because I will be a little preoccupied tomorrow, they told me that the order would get lost with how busy they are tonight and have no chance of accommodating me. I again explained to them I am a frequent customer who lives in the neighborhood and i appreciate the fact that they cater to a vegan but was still met with resistance. I thanked him for his time and told him I'll take my business somewhere else in the neighborhood. Another pizza place in the neighborhood took my order and offered me a discount because I am running the marathon for charity. I will be giving them my business going forward. I had never been before and they had great Wednesday specials, discounted wine bottles and apps. The goat cheese app was sooooo good. More please every day! Next we ordered a pizza, but my friend ordered the wrong pizza by accident. Our server suggested the margherita and we cuold add smething if we wanted...I suggested italian sausage being a real italian place and all. Well, he ordered the pesto margherita with italian sausage. No good. Too much pesto and balsamic and it just didn't taste like I know it could have without all that nonsense on it. Next time, I'll be getting the straight up margherita and maybe add sausage and I'm sure it will be delightful. I live two doors down from this place and I have never written a review but I decided to share. The pizza is amazing and come out fast. The pizza oven is amazing and as soon as you order you can watch them toss your dough and put it in the oven. The ambiance is excellent and the staff is friendly. The beer selection is decent; they could have a few more. There are about 7 beers on tap. The word I would use to describe the menu is weak. The pizza menu is just fine and there are good apps but there needs to be more of a pasta selection. I prefer white sauce with my pasta and there are only red selections and there is only a couple. The only qualms I have about this place is that they fly a bears flag outside and the one time I wanted to go there for Bears monday night football they were closed. They are closed on mondays which is annoying. Other than the place is great. It also does not bother me to come home from work to have my apartment smelling like the best pizza in the world. read more

A pizzeria in Chicago that doesn't serve deep dish, heavens!! Well, surprise!!! Most of the people I know actually prefer thin. Deep is just too much food. Not really much to say about Pizzeria Serio, they know what they are doing. A friend visiting from DC purchased an online coupon for Pizzeria Serio (PS) for when he visited. With all of Chicago's great eats, we never made it there. With a week left before expiration, my partner and I used the coupon our friend left behind--Score! You step in to PS and feel as if you're entering the arched brick pizza oven. All the walls are brick, possibly since the structure originally served as a former recording studio. Pretty neat. The second thing I noticed is all the kids and families. This is a forewarning... I thought it was kids-eat-free night (Sunday) but I was wrong. I think it's simply due to the surrounding West Lakeview neighborhood (must be good schools there or something). Once I got over all the screaming and trampling footsteps around my table, I concentrated on the menu with a fair amount of wines and beers, plus Mexican Fanta and Coca Cola in the glass bottle (made the right way!). The menu is Italian-influenced with homemade dough and sweet tomato sauce smoothed out onto their NYC pie-style pizzas and calzones which are baked in the stone oven at 800* (say 'Ciao' to Chicago deep-dish for a day). The dishes are served on circular metal pizza baking sheets which is a fun idea. I ordered a calzone which is humungous and serves 2 people (or one very large Italian man) but only goes for only $10. If you'd like to give it a try, they also serve two mini calzones as an appetizer. You can customize your calzone to your liking, with a price. The crust was outstanding in flavor and crispiness. I'd recommend it! They also have some Serio Weekly Specials (serio as in 'serious'): Tuesday-Buy one pizza, get one half off Wednesday-Half off bottles of wine Thursday-Pizza & Beer Night Sunday-Kids eat free (beware.) Serio surely takes their food serio, now if we can only lock the kids upstairs...And maybe get some staff that takes their jobs a little more seriously. All in all, 5-stars for the food. read more

Last night, I recommended Pizzeria Serio as my current favorite flat crust pizza place. The fact that it's in my 'hood doesn't hurt, but this place is worth a ride on the Belmont Bus. With thin crust pizza, it's (naturally) all about the crust. Pizzeria Serio has a brick oven in the back (open to the seating area so you can watch). The crust thus attains that delicate crispy/chewy combination. One large pizza is the perfect size for two people. Like most pizza places, they have a list pizza topping combinations they make but also let you customize. This is perfect for groups with picky eaters. I've never had trouble getting a table and service has always been fantastic - this only increases the likelihood that I will pop in unplanned on days when I don't want to cook. Pizza Serio is closed on Mondays, but once a month, they host Simpsons trivia there and I went for the first time August 18. I wasn't going to eat any pizza (honestly, I've been trying to be good lately!) but when it came out, and it was so hot and smelled good, I decided one little slice was okay. Plus, it was thin crust, you know, and brick-oven baked, not oozing with grease like fast-food pizza, you know? One slice turned into two, and later, a couple more . . . The garlicky white pizza was amazing! The bar staff are all friendly and great, and the beer selection is very nice (although it's worth the trip downstairs for more, less hoppy, choices). My husband and I went with 6 of our friends so we were able to try a good variety of items. The pizzas here remind me of Spacca Napoli's but I liked it better here as I felt there was more flavor. We also enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip and the italian salad but the real star of the meal was the calzone. Delicious melted mozzarella oozed out of it and adding the ricotta to it was pure genius. My friends wanted pizza, I said as long as it isnt deep dish I am OK with it. So they took me here. Very cute place, we had a young server who was very pleasant, and since none of us had been here some of the things we ordered were based on his recommendation, which I appreciate because the stuff we got was amazing. We started off with the -BAKED GOAT CHEESE (a generous chunk of goat cheese is baked in our house marinara sauce and served with warm bread for dipping). Might be my favorite thing here, I could order just this and be extremely happy. Next we ordered two small pies to sample the different toppings, one was the -DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY (spicy pie with capicollo, pepperoncinis, red onions, fresh garlic & Mama Lil's hot peppers *white pie, no sauce) and the -DIAVOLA (spicy pie with hot sopressata, peperoncinis & red onions). Best Margherita pizza I've had in a loooong time! We came in on at 10-15pm on a Friday night when they were almost closing down and we were hungry. We got a large margherita pizza and a small "Eat your veggies" pizza. And a small custom pizza with onion peppers and pepperoncini. They were all delicious but the Margherita pizza was the best. I've passed by Pizzeria Serio many times so I decided to give them a go. I went with a pepperoni pizza and it did not disappoint! The crust is so light and crispy and the cheese had excellent flavor. Service was terrible for how NOT busy it was in there. Very disappointed with my experience. Pizza was pretty good but didn't sit very well. Our waiter got my margherita pizza wrong and didn't add the hot sopressata that I asked for. I enjoyed the pizza special, 'Sweet Heat'. Lots of tasty draft beers, it was a pleasant surprise to see a local brewery on the menu called Off Color. My boyfriend ordered a bottled beer and it tasted old and off, which they replaced for us. In a city full of amazing pizza joints, don't waste your time at a place where the staff makes you feel like you're wasting theirs. Horrible, sarcastic attitudes and unprofessionalism from the staff who all hung out at the end of the bar being quite obnoxious. Also the restaurant is set up awkwardly and the lighting is bad.
