Service was terrible for how NOT busy it was in there. Very disappointed with my experience. Pizza was pretty good but didn't sit very well. Our waiter got my margherita pizza wrong and didn't add the hot sopressata that I asked for. I enjoyed the pizza special, 'Sweet Heat'. Lots of tasty draft beers, it was a pleasant surprise to see a local brewery on the menu called Off Color. My boyfriend ordered a bottled beer and it tasted old and off, which they replaced for us. In a city full of amazing pizza joints, don't waste your time at a place where the staff makes you feel like you're wasting theirs. Horrible, sarcastic attitudes and unprofessionalism from the staff who all hung out at the end of the bar being quite obnoxious. Also the restaurant is set up awkwardly and the lighting is bad. I'm feeling very generous today so I'm going to give Pizzeria Serio 5 stars! I'm not much of brick oven pizza kind of gal, so I was a little skeptical trying this place. We ordered the Diavolo PIzza and it was excellent. Definitely exceeded my expectations. It had just enough spice so it was not overwhelmingly hot and it was very flavorful. It contains red onion though so I wouldn't order this on a first date - lucky for me I went with my husband so lets just say there wasn't much canoodling that night! ha! To start we had goat cheese flatbread which was also very apetizing. We went on a Saturday night and there was no wait at all and service was good. Their margherita pizza is totally legit!! We went there late on a Fri night. Our group of 5 walked in after 10... they were almost closing down.... but they were really sweet and let us in. Their service was very good... they didn't rush us even if it was close to their closing time. The margherita pizza is delicious.... as good as it gets. The veggie lovers was good too. I only went because of a groupon, and i probably won't go back. It was pretty overpriced for what we got (a large, super thin margherita pizza with pepperoni... yeah, weird.) and the pints of beer were pretty pricy too (it was a saturday night, though). So I went to him and he directed me to the bar. At the bar the young man was busy talking to a friend about how the police murder people. I have never written a negative review. Let's just start with that. We went in for some pizza and beer while we watched a college basketball game. The pizza was solid. My girlfriend loved it (but she also thinks Papa Johns is haute cuisine). The beers were good. The "brewery of the month" was Off Color, which we love. There were flyers all over the bar stating that the brewery of the month was $5. Great. Let's do this. We paid our tab and then I looked at the bill. There were two charges for $7 and $6 respectively. I casually mentioned to the bartender that was not what was stated on the flyer. He literally told me to go look at the fine print. It was only two of the selections. I said that's a little misleading. Instead of agreeing...and being cool about it, he made an issue. He asked condescendingly, "what do you want me to do?" I should have just left. But, now it was a matter of principle. I told him that I'd take a beer... He went and checked with the owner, which apparently said to fuck off. This entire situation could have been diffused if he would have just said "yep, it is a little confusing. Sorry about that." But that was not what happened. We live in the neighborhood and have never been here. We will not be back and will tell all of our friends to avoid this shortsighted establishment. I've never been so disrespected at a restaurant. I am a former bartender (7 years), so I always tip at least 25%. All you have to do is be friendly and competent and that's what I tip. I had already filled out the tip for 25%, but took it back and left 10%...because that's what he has to pay on taxes. I understand that and am not a complete asshole. Just because I live in Chicago doesn't mean I love deep dish. Not only do I love thin crust, I'm a self-professed thin crust snob. Pizzeria Serio serves up one of the best thin crusted pizzas I've had in the Windy City. It's the perfect balance of thickness and crispiness, without being burnt. It also can hold the ingredients without getting soggy. Hubby and I tried the margherita pizza con carne (yes, it comes with meat without having to add it as an additional topping!). We usually cannot finish an entire pie, but we devoured the large between the two of us in record time. It was delicious. We also split an Italian salad, which was different with the honey garlic dressing. Good different. The salad servings are huge! It's enough for 3-4 people for an appetizer. Service was friendly and prompt. It wasn't crowded on a Sunday early evening. They offer a large selection of craft beers. Hubby discovered a new favorite on tap. I was blown away by the pizza here! For 2 people we ordered the meatballs and small pizza and it was plenty. We ordered the margarita with sausage and it was delicious. We wanted to come back the next night for more. The drink menu was underwhelming but we both found some decent beers. That's really all you want with pizza anyways. My complaint though is about the service. I was fast enough but could be friendly. She wasn't rude but I detected an attitude. I felt like we were being an inconvenience and was being driven out. I'm regular and have been coming here since they opened. They are the best brick-oven dough and sauce in the area. I have not been disappointed with any of the pizzas here but my favorites are the margherita (classic), the spinach w/ sauce (can't get enough of their sauce) and the diavolo (spicy and robust). They offer great fresh ingredients and even a build-your-own option. The italian salad spinach salad are also wonderful compliments, along w/ a great beer selection. One thing I do prefer is to dine in. Take out and delivery don't do the pizza justice at all since it should be enjoyed fresh from the oven. Once the pizza cools, it's not a good. The flavor is still great, but the dough will toughen. If you reheat the leftovers in the covered pan on the stove-top, the texture is near-restored. read more

I gotta say, I was disappointed with the pizza at this place after reading all the glowing reviews here. Then again I'm pickier than most when it comes to pizza especially brick oven pizza. Ordered a large margherita pizza and a spinach salad. The pizza came out of the oven after a few minutes, nice and blistered. Taste wise, the toppings were fine. Your standard pureed San Marzano tomatoes with mozzarella and basil. But the crust was a total letdown. This crust was too soft and limp with very little flavor. It seemed to lack salt and didn't have the characteristic flavor of a properly fermented pizza dough. Just standard thin crust with some char from a brick oven. The spinach salad though I must say was incredible. Loved the citrus vinaigrette with the tangy goat cheese and crunchy walnuts. First, I just moved from NYC and I have strong feelings when it comes to a good pizza. This brick oven pizza was perfect, very similar (just as yummy) as a NY pie but a little more real Italian. I have absolutely no qualms with this pizza and it's nice to know I can have a bite of home anytime! ALSO! Major specials that are to be noted. I found this place on Groupon and went there. The groupon that I got was saying that dine-in only but I thought I can pay the tip and take it to go since I don`t have a time to sit there. So thats why I asked them to pay included tip so I can take it because I had to go right away I didn`t have time. The owner was there. He said that they put the groupon for people who wants to come drink & get pizza. I am 20 years old and I can`t legally drink. After we talked for awhile he said that I can use it. I got a pizza + I paid for tip + I got a drink. In the end, he made more money because I left extra tip for him. But I really didn`t like this behavior to me, because it get me feeling of he wants to make money more than making me happy. Until that time I was encouraging everybody to go there. I always liked their pizza`s.But since than I`m not recommending it because I don`t feel well with this place anymore. I hope from now on when they put their groupon they mention 21+ and appreciated with a drink or two. Let me preface by saying that it was 9 PM when we went to this restaurant. This was our first time at Pizzeria Serio. We are a thin crust pizza family. Love gooey, chewy & cheesy pizza with sausage. We ordered the large cheese sausage with "peppas." We were not too thrilled with this pizza. Great newer place but nothing crazy special. I've been here twice now and I will say that the service is great/friendly and the food "pretty good" but nothing to rush to try. Pizza is thin crust but not cracker thin, but somehow they get it to be really crispy--which I haven't noticed a lot of other thin crust pizza places doing in Chicago. They are light on the sauce and cheese but generous on the toppings. Only one size - 14 inch which can easily feed three people (or three women ha). They have a nice wine list and really reasonable prices for the quality of the wine. I had the Vitiano Rosso -- don't be fooled by the cheap price, this wine is amazing AND drinks like water, so be careful! :) Oh and if you have allergies like I do, they are super accommodating--which if you read any of my reviews, I love :) This place is a good summer place to grab some pizza with friends on a Saturday night without busting the bank account or having the hassle of going downtown. read more

I was actually really surprised at how good this place was. I went here with a large group after our spa day. The service was attentive. The food was pretty darn good! We had several salads that were large and delicious! The spinach and artichoke dip was delish as well. Next up, the pizzas! YUMMY! We had the big cheese, margherita, and the spinach. They were all great. Thin and brick oven like. The dough is bready and not buttery...kind of made me think I was sort of eating healthy...maybe??? If you like brick oven style pizza you should probably head over to Pizza Serio right now. This place is truly a hidden gem and I had a great dinner here a couple of weeks ago. The dining room area of Pizza Serio is a nice size with a lot of warm brick and a huge oven as the center piece. When my boyfriend and I came in on a random week night the dining room was busy with young families and couples enjoying their dinner. We were seated at a booth toward the back and went to work deciding what to order. They have a pretty excellent draft beer selection that I didn't expect from a local pizzeria that we totally took advantage of. And since we had a Groupon (look for one before you go) we decided to go a bit bigger than usual and try a few things. We went with the Garlic Sticks, Meatball Marinara, and Diavola Pizza (white style). We really enjoyed the appetizers and I almost regretted ordering two because the real star at Pizza Serio is their perfectly cooked brick oven pizza! Our pizza was spicy, cheesy, and totally hit the spot for me. I was so full and wanted to keep eating and eating because it was THAT good. I highly recommend this spot to anyone who is looking to enjoy quality food at a fair price in an upscale atmosphere in the Roscoe Village and Lakeview areas. I have been watching this place for months now waiting anxiously for the new pizza place by my apartment so I definitely had high expectations and luckily this place lived up to them! it gets four stars for having good pizza & great service (loses a star for not having exceptional pizza...). we walked in as a party of 7 and they made space for us right away. every table seemed to be full for most of the night, which is definitely a good sign. i'm loving the BYOB aspect and kind of hope it stays that way for awhile. between the 7 of us we got the flatbread appetizer, a caesar salad, a diavolo pizza, the big cheese pizza, and a meat your heart out. we were all pleased with our selections and a pizza was enough for 2 hungry people making it a GREAT value. the best part was the tiramisu... Con: Our server throughout the entire meal never once came over to refill our pop, or even ask if we would like another one. Pro: The food was excellent. Finding good brick-oven pizza is a priority for me, so when my now-wife introduced me to Serio's, I knew that I found my brick-oven pizza spot in Chicago. In my opinion, great pizza starts with great crust, and when Serio's pizza is fresh out of the oven, the crust is perfectly crisp on the outside and warm on the inside. The spinach pie is one of my favorites, sausage and peppers is good, and the chef's specials are often the way to go. A GREAT beer list. Good beers on tap, and a fairly long list of bottled beers, including a nice selection of Belgian and Belgian-style beers. If you like meatball subs, Serio's offering is solid. I also like the garlic bread. The pizza is great, but I keep coming back because of the people who work there--very nice people, who make you feel welcome when you walk in. Serio's is a great place for families--and Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights tend to draw a bigger family crowd early in the evening. But I've never had to wait long to sit and the service is prompt. Lots of TVs, and if you sit at the bar, it's a nice place to watch a game and eat some great pizza. read more

Okay, I am from Pittsburgh, and while I normally think of it as pretty Midwest, I guess we just do pizza different on the East Coast. That said, Pizzeria Serio satisfies everything that I have been missing about good pizza for the decade plus since I moved here. This is Boston pizza, this is Pittsburgh pizza- not bragging, but I've been to Florence and Venice and while I was there you best believe I ate a lot of pizza, and this is for real Italy pizza. Their Margherita pizza is perfection. I haven't eaten there- that stretch of the Belmont Corridor is a little shi shi foo foo- but their delivery has been consistent and hot. They seem to get slammed on the regular and they stop taking orders early with some frequency, so don't sleep. The one time they were late, the guy had many pizzas with him, had a story about an over-busy kitchen (which I believed, re: many pizzas), was super nice about everything and the pizza was STILL HOT. This place is absolutely average. The pizza tastes like hand tossed style, not super thin, with a sizable crust. The crust has cornmeal rolled into it. We ordered Margherita pizza and for the 2nd pie, the prosciutto spinach since they ran out of arugula. Both pies had dough that was somewhat tough. After leaving an ultracrowded Oktoberfest Chicago, our group decided to grab a real meal at this new brickhouse oven venue. We ordered the Meat Your Heart Out and the Eat Your Veggies Pizzas - that was plenty and then some for our group of 5. Unlike other yelp reviews, the pizza absolutely DOES NOT remind me of genuine NY style pizza - i went to a little hole-in-the-wall in Soho, and that was real NY pizza - gooey cheese with a crisp flat crust. Here at Pizzeria Sero, the bread was thicker and dry, the slices are not NY style huge, and the flavors were nothing special, if not a bit too overspiced with basil and oregano. I had to pour on the parmesan cheese to offset the weird earthy flavor. Why would anyone charge $16-18 per pizza for THIS. I don't know, maybe their ability to make good pizza will improve with time - they will have a hard time competing with Pizza Kings like Piece, Lous, and Ginos. I do have give them 4 stars for the Mini Calzones - those were yummy for those that love ricotta cheese. But for 7 bucks can't they give more than 4 pieces? I came here on a Tuesday night around 6:30pm with my husband after finding the place through Freevo app. We were seated immediately, no wait! Always a plus. Their specials for Tuesday nights are buy a large pizza, get one half off and $2 well drinks (that's a bargain). We ordered a half portion of the arugula and Parmesan salad ($5). It's as advertised: arugula, Parmesan and a lemon vinaigrette. Simple and clean, and the portion size was huge for a half portion. My husband and I were able to split it before the pizza came! We also ordered a large sweet heat pizza which came with Mama Lil's peppers, sausage, and honey drizzle. It's a killer pizza! The peppers are pickled, and they're pretty intense. It made my face pucker, but it works well with the sausage and honey! A large pizza can truly feed 2-3 people, with each person getting 2 or 3 slices. We ended up having 3 slices for leftovers! Also ordered a large cheese pizza to take home! Curious to see how this reheats in the oven. The slices are a little floppy, so I did fold it in half while I was eating it. We were here last weekend for dinner with a large group and aside from the awkward seating arrangement we had a great time! The waitress was very patient dealing with our group of 20+ and was quick with our drinks. The food took a little longer than we would have hoped but I understand that with such a large group it's difficult to time everything to come out at the same time. We ate family style with apps that included goat cheese, spinach dip, meatballs and breadsticks. Everything tasted great but the portions were a bit small in my opinion. I suppose for 2 people it would be perfect but we had to order several apps @ an average of $7-8 in order for everyone to even try it. We ordered several pizzas of 4 varieties: classic margherita, cheese, spinach and meat your heart out. Some pieces were pretty burnt on the crusts but the flavors were great for the most part! I had to opportunity to dine at Pizzeria Serio on the evening of January 5th. A couple friends had been there before and gave it great reviews- and they had purchased a coupon from one of the Groupon type sites. I was pleasantly surprised by what a great experience it ended up being Our server greeted us right away (a girl) and she was fantastic throughout the night. They had a few seasonal beers available that I asked about and our server quickly returned with a few samples. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer and it was really delicious with a fair amount of good flat bread. We ordered two pizzas, one Meat your Heart out and one of the Big Cheese with pepperoni and green peppers added. Yum! The food was spot on, and the service right along there with it. Some of my favorite pizza I've had in Chicago. I am a huge thin crust fan, and this pizza is made in a stone oven, so the crust is really thin and crispy = delicious. The ingredients are really fresh and they have some great specialty pizzas. We couldn't decide which one to get, but you can easily do half and half specialty pizzas and it doesn't cost additional money which is not the norm! The only downfall that knocked it down a star was we had bought the LivingSocial coupon and went in the same day... and our waitress just very rudely said "that starts tomorrow" without even apologizing or letting it slide. Came here last Friday night around 6:30pm. Place is really big and wasn't too crowded. We sat right down. I noticed a lot of families with kids but definitely seems like a place to come with friends and watch a game. My bf and I shared the Spinach Salad (YUM!!!) and a large Diavolo pizza. Both were great and pretty big. The salad was super fresh, plenty of walnuts (some restaurants skimp on the nuts) and the dressing was super yummy. The pizza was delicious as well.. perfectly crispy and the toppings were really fresh. Definitely would come back. Our waiter was super friendly and attentive without being annoying. We ordered two different pies. The sausage pizza was decent. The Diavola pizza was horrible. A Diavola pizza is to be made with a spicy pepperoni. Their version of this pizza was made with a mild pepperoni and hot peppers. The flavor of the pepperoni was bad. Overall, the crust was decent but the sauce was weak. OK, I'm going to out myself here, I'm from Northern New Jersey (read: one town over from Real-Housewives-of-NJ) and I grew up eating NY/NJ thin-crust pizza. Pizzeria Serio is the closest thing to authentic NY/NJ thin-crust I've have had in Chicago. It has that great doughy layer under the cheese and a nice crispy crust that so many Chicago thin-crust places misinterpret as a flavorless cracker-like crust. The marinara on the pie is authentic and the slices fold up perfectly. If they were just a little thicker on the crust and heavier on the cheese I would have thought I was back home; of course that would have necessitated sopping the excess cheese grease off the slice with a napkin (which is part of the NY/NJ thin crust experience). The menu is "succinct", with 8 standard pies and a build-your-own option, three salads and three appetizers. The beer list is extensive and wine by the bottle is reasonably priced, especially if you stop by on Wednesday when there's 1/2 priced bottle night. This is NOT an Italian restaurant, it is - as it's name clearly states - a Pizzeria. If you want pizza, you go to a pizzeria, if you want pasta and Ossobuco, go to an Italian restaurant. The ambiance is casual sports bar, my wife and I liked the exposed brick and booths were classic and comfortable. My only critique was they need to dim the lights a bit inside. There is a line of thought that you should do one thing and do it well. Pizzeria Serio does great, authentic thin crust pizza. We'll likely be back. read more

After watching Serio Pizza on Best of Chicago I decided to call in for delivery. I live 15 minutes away from their location so they were gracious enough to deliver my way. Instead of $3 they were going to charge me $4 for delivery which was fair. The spinach pizza came less than hour as I was told and expected. I'm an avid pizza eater coming from the NY/NJ area where the best pizzas are forged. The verdict: pizza was exceptional, nice thin chewy crust, fresh ingredients which made the pizza taste very healthy. I like a lil' grease on my pizza but that was my own doing as I ordered spinach. Next time I'll try to the Margherita or the meat lover's pizza. I'll definitely order from Serio Pizza again. read more
