Fantastic Denver omelette with perfectly crispy hash browns. So good. Huge!

Finally, my quest for the best greasy spoon in Vancouver is over! You won't find a better breakfast in Vancouver than at the Plainsman. That is coming from someone who has traveled all over the US looking for greasy spoons - this one is one of my favorites. It's small, but has bar seating and big booths which are comfortable. They also make homemade bread and it's fantastic! Portions are HUGE as well, even the half orders. I had a Denver omelette and a side of French toast. The hash browns, which came with my omelette, were perfectly crispy and delicious. The portions of ingredients in the omelette were absolutely perfect and everything was cooked exactly enough. The flavors in the omelette were outstanding! Now, I'm not normally a big French roast person but when I saw they make their bread I had to try it. I'm a convert and I will always order French toast when I go back to the Plainsman! It was deliciously crisp on the outside; very buttery and with a hint of cinnamon which was exactly the right amount. Even as a half order it came with a side of peaches, which I thought was a nice touch. My husband has the corned beef hash and he managed to eat the whole thing. No idea how he did it. He agreed with me that this place is the best in Vancouver. We have very high standards for diners (lol) and I can't say enough good things about the Plainsman. When we got home, we immediately went into a food coma and took a three hour nap. Service was also very friendly and multiple people were around making sure our coffee and water never ran out. They were great people. The only thing I will say about this diner is that the coffee was really weak. That's not going to stop me from going but I wish they brewed it a little stronger. I will update when I return if it turns out it was just a bad brew. I'm in love!

It's been about 10 years since I was here last. It still looks the same. Such nice friendly waitresses there. The people who come here are locals who have been coming here for years. I got the chicken fried steak with their homemade bread. My breakfast was really good and the chicken fried steak was not very greasy at all. The bread they serve it was delicious too. I will be sure to make it back here again.

The food is large and decent. Nothing to write home about but it'll fill you up. We've ordered it to go a couple times and were happy.

The duo of bartenders covering the area did an awesome job (thank you guys!). I tried a draft cider and we got an order of coconut prawns to start. Not only were the prawns delicious, the slaw they came on was soooo tasty. We both tried the social hour burgers. We got them with double patties and fries. The burgers were cooked beautifully and the seasoning really worked well. The fries were a perfect crisp golden brown and they were salted well. I got some garlic aioli, so so so good! Great service, great venue, great food!

My husband and I had dinner reservations for the night. We arrived two minutes before our schedule…read moretime and were told that they're pushing some tables and they will seat us soon. We waited 10 minutes before we were taken to our seats. It seems as though there were enough tables to accommodate the long wait line, but not enough staffing. We understood. Our waitress gave us our menu and we looked through the menu. She came back shortly and took our order. We ordered the king pao calamari to share. My husband ordered the Parmesan encrusted halibut and I ordered the wood fire grilled rib eye steak. The kung pao calamari came with cauliflower. It was okay, the kung pao sauce was a bit too powerful for the sweetness of the calamari. I would lighten up the sauce lightly. The Parmesan encrusted halibut came with tomato paste, along with califlower, green beans and potatoes. I had a quick taste and it was okay. My dish came with smashed potatoes and asparagus which is a great pairing. The steak was cooked to perfection and I liked the smashed potatoes. The restaurant has a lot of searings, and nice decor. There are lots of views of the River which sets the ambiance for the night.
