I came here today for a very early lunch. 11:30 AM. I was with an elderly friend who is recently widowed. We were seated at a nice window table with a wonderful view of the golf course. Lovely. We could see a fountain. There was also a fireplace near us, which was a nice touch. Service was OK. A little bit slow, and in my opinion, the server was not well trained in basic table service. I would expect a bit better in such a nice location with a lovely restaurant. We both had coffee with plenty of cream. We asked what the soup was, the server didn't know if they had soup. A few minutes later, she returned to say they only had clam chowder. Which is exactly what my friend had had there before and wanted. After a long wait, a very nice bowl of clam chowder was served. It was a healthy portion and came with some oyster crackers. Very tasty. I ordered the roasted beef salad. The beats were on top of a bed of totally overdressed spinach for my taste. The beats were nicely roasted, and there were plenty of them. Candied pecans as well. Not a lot of feta. Pickled onions on top. It was OK only I would not order that again. My friend got the Caesar salad, which was very nice. The croutons were light and crunchy. We also had some bread that came with olive oil and vinegar. This item was fine, not great. The clam chowder was $10 for a bowl and it was the best thing that I had. We had to ask for a refill on our coffee, and also to clear some plates away that were finished. We did stay for a very long time. My friend felt relaxed there and was talking to me quite a bit. I do appreciate that we were not rushed out, however, it was not busy. We were never offered dessert. Going out to brunch with the family is always special as my parents are really getting up there in age and my sister lives all the way down in Salem. My parents had been here before for happy hour and really enjoyed sitting out on the deck, overlooking the beautiful golf course. So of course, we had a perfect table with a lovely view on a relaxing Saturday afternoon. We got there at 1:30 PM and lunch service starts at 2:00 PM. Our server Rory, was very professional and attentive. He seemed to sense whenever we needed anything. I had a particular request, I ordered the prawn shrimp Louie salad, and my request was that the kitchen take the tails off of the prawns for me. I just really hate having to do that myself at a restaurant and getting my fingers all messy. Plus I was wearing white. So you see, diva treatment was necessary. Everyone at the table except my mom ordered salads and got their food first. Ta da! Rory and the kitchen totally came through for me. No tails on my prawns. The salad was beautifully presented. I don't know why my dumb Yelp brain didn't take a picture of it but at least I got a picture of it before I gobbled it down. I will say this, the service at the Hickory, the ambience overlooking the beautiful golf course and I confided in Rory that the prawn shrimp Louie was the best salad I've ever had. I love the golf course but one of the reasons why I don't go here a lot to eat or drink anymore is that the prices are way too high. But when minimum wage is like $20.00 and you have to pay good workers $25.00 for them to stick around I understand. They have changed the menu and not necessarily for the good. We wanted to go for a burger and they have had the hickory burger on the menu forever! No more. Now if you want a burger you have to order their smash burger with 2 patties and pay a whopping price of $25. Feel like they are gouging. They no long have their club sandwich. The venue is pleasant and the service is good. The outdoor seating overlooking the golf course is great. The downside is that it is very pricey even on the happy hour menu. It was also got very windy so watch the weather before you request outside. Charcuterie board was tasty and good for 2-3 people, I ordered the GF Bolognese it was not very tasty. Actually pretty bland. I thought bolognese was a red meat sauce it was not red was just ground beef in an oily sauce... husband ordered short ribs he described them as "alright". We went for brunch and their menu was perfect, it had a little of something for everybody. A mix of lunch and breakfast items. I love my Spanish Coffees, and if they come with a cinnamon sugar rim, you know I believe they deserve five stars! I also enjoyed the Crab Cake Benedict. Our server was fantastic, patient, accommodating and attentive. Not an easy feat when dealing with eight people including a nine year old and a baby! I made a reservation for four many weeks ago requesting a booth. We arrived a few minutes early. There were several booths available. Our party included 4 adults, not small children. We were seated at a very small table suitable for 2 adults (my daughter, who is a waitress, and my partner, is a former waiter, both commented that it was a 2 top at most). Our waitress serving us spontaneously commented that there was not room at the table for all the dishes and drinks. We asked to be moved. We were told that 'all the tables were reserved'. What about our reservation?? We watched as larger tables and booths sat empty for some time, some even throughout our entire meal, while we were squeezed at the 2 top for the entire meal. Additionally, although our server was friendly, the person who actually brought us our food seemed very put out when we nicely requested condiments - she had not asked if we needed anything when serving the food, so we needed to request it. Overall, this was definitely not a good first impression at all. We will not be returning. Don't waste your time or money here. read more

Located at a golf course/country club, Hickory is serving up high end comfort food. I was there during happy hour and they had a limited menu - none of the delicious steaks I saw in other reviews. Luckily I'm easy to please. Went with the Cajun skrimps and brussel sprouts off the happy hour & abbreviated menu respectively. The shrimp were seasoned well and served with some crusty sourdough slices - both delicious. The brussel sprouts...best I've ever had - the sauce, the bacon, peanuts and apple pieces...WOW!!! And they come out piled on a plate that could have fed a family of 8 - but I couldn't stop eating them, they were that good. Big bar selection and some craft beers on draft. Took an inordinate amount of time for our waitress to even acknowledge we were there after being seated, get some water, have our order taken, get our food, etc. This was our second time having lunch at Hickory but we won't be going back. my husband and I went to Hickory for date night. We made a reservation and we're seated promptly when we arrived. The dinning room was a bit too noisy because of a loud large party, so we opted to sit at the bar, where everything was very clean, tidy and had a great ambiance. Heather gave us some excellent service. She made me a delicious vodka martini and my husband had a raspberry limoncello spritz that was also divine. The braised short ribs were to die for and the staff was very accommodating of my desire to eat as low carb as possible. They allowed me to substitute broccolini Romesco for the risotto and carrots that were supppsed to come with it. My husband got the fish and chips and really enjoyed them. Heather even mixed me up some horse radish cream herself after the kitchen ran out. She was very friendly, welcoming and fun to talk to. The restaurant has had a complete makeover including the menu. The food is not what you'd expect from a typical golf course, instead it's like a high end resort. Menu is seasonal with unique selections and for the traditional, the chicken wings are out of bounds! My wife is a vegetarian and craves the beet burger with the Brussels sprouts appetizer. Came here for the first time today for Sunday brunch, it was so good! Our server was great too. I got the Croque Monsieur breakfast which came with sweet potato fries, and my husband got the apple spice pancakes. Both were absolutely delicious! Seriously, I will be dreaming of the melty cheesy goodness of my croque Monsieur until I have one again. It was a perfect balance of sweet and salty with the combo of Gruyère, caramelized onions and a berry compote/jam on the side. My fries were light and crispy, but soft and pillowy on the inside, seasoned with salt just right. It was the best meal I've had out in a long time.
