The food here is well above average - great portions, great flavors in every single item. Good humus, great lentil soup. Great lemon chicken soup. Will definitely stop here again when I am in the Georgetown area. Loved the mom and pop Plaka arguing over what temperature they should set the dining room at. Best Greek restaurant in the central Texas area, and it's less than a mile from where I work, so when I have a hankering for food from my homeland, I can literally walk here! Before I was a vegetarian, I would get the chicken salad, which was absolutely amazing, even if you aren't a fan of Greek food (and why wouldn't you be???) this will be seriously one of the best salads you have ever had. I now get the felafel sandwich, you can't beat 4.99 for a large sandwich, and for a dollar extra you can add a soup or a salad. read more

AMAZING Greek food, generous portions, fast and friendly service. Hubby and I drive over an hour to eat here for date nights every so often. We've been more than pleased, every time! We both get the combo plate, he got soup, I got feta salad. It came with pita, and we ordered grape leaves and shared a baklava too. Stopped by this place for dinner. The staff was really friendly. The food was ok but nothing special to write home about. I ordered the gyro combo with lentil soup. The gyro was large and had tons of vegetables on it. The meat was a little dry for me but still tasty. I wasn't a big fan of the soup. read more

Plaka is fantastic, quick, fresh, delicious Greek food. The chicken salad is big enough to stuff two hungry people and is so so good! (Served with warm pita.) I couldn't recommend it more! This is just an update as I feel the original 1 star rating I left was a bit undeserved. It's not the best Greek food I've ever had, in all honesty, but it's not that bad. The gyro is fine. I just wish they would cut the vegetables a bit smaller and the lamb was a bit thinner. The hummus leaves a lot to be desired. That, I won't order again and don't recommend. I am not a fan of the drive-through that does not have a menu available, but it is what it is. But, overall .... The staff has always been friendly enough and they have good prices for what you get. I would recommend this place for a decent, inexpensive and fast meal. read more

Watch your clocks! Arrived This evening at 8:20 PM and was informed they were closed although the sign says service until 8:30 PM. Young guy manager said he couldn't afford to keep 4 guys working their appointed hours. What a jerk! Owner was on vacation, wouldn't you know? Employees cutting out early as they could. The place was clean, but with a cafeteria service area. MAybe another Tino's or Dimassi? This is not necessarily bad as some items can be prepared in advance and cooked to order. Before I return, I will call and ensure the owner is present so I can relate my first experience to him. Hopefully he is just not a business owner who doesn't care. read more

A lot of decent "yummy" for the buck in a divey, fast-casual setting. Decided to tackle Plaka for a dinner out with Friend, as I had seen some good reviews - and I now have been back several times since then as Friend has developed an unholy obsession for the restaurant's meat dolmades. The Gyro meat was tender and tasty at Plaka, the pitas soft and delicious, and the tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki fresh. Dolmades, both vegetarian and meat versions, were tasty. Galaktoboureko for dessert was flaky and simply flavored. Both the lentil and the spicy bean soups were decent. Even the baked lima beans were pretty tasty, and I absolutely HATE lima beans, generally. If I have a quibble, it's that the Feta Salad could have had a bit more spark and brighter flavors to the olives and dressing - it was a little generic. Oh, and a comment or two about the "ambiance.". Pictures of all the dishes hang on the wall by the entrance, guests order their food by number while passing along a mini cafeteria line, and you carry your tray to your table. Walls are decorated with a series of $10 Greek tourism posters. Being a lifelong fan of diners and dives, I'm not saying this is a bad thing, but know that the atmosphere is definitely casual. The only thing keeping this place from 5 star is the service. I have been going here for some time. The food is excellent! They can be inconsistent with their closing time. I especially notice it when the owners are not there. An example would be that tonight I called to see when they were closing,as it was the day after a holiday, and was told 8:30. We made it by 8:15. No sign to say they were closing earlier than their posted 9pm sign. However, customers still walked at 8:43. Another evening they were putting away food by 8:30. read more

Great food! As a Greek American I sadly learned not to get my hopes up at Greek Restaurants BUT this one was delicious. The flavors were on point! Reminded me of my Yaya's cooking. Don't let the shabby exterior fool you! I live in Round Rock, so driving to Georgetown just for Greek food at Plaka is quite a big deal- but there just aren't any good Greek places in RR that I have found. Gyros are always amazing, either chicken or lamb. The taboulli salad is divine- and all the portions are huge for the price! Best value: kids portion of anything. This place will fill your belly with decent Greek food. You should never leave hungry. Decor is not for me. Bathrooms could use a good cleaning. Staff are attentive but not as friendly. I was told about this place by a waiter at another restaurant when I started to order a gyro wrap - he suggested I not bother with theirs, and instead go get one at Plaka! Great food, large portions, and easy to get in and out fast. We've tried gyro wraps, salads, veggies, soups, samplers, and desserts, and they have always been great. Nowadays I usually get the gyro wrap combo with lentil soup (which has excellent flavors - I could eat that soup every day). They also have veggie-based combos that are great. The inside has plenty of seating and lots of Greek decor. Food is picked-up cafeteria-style on trays and drinks are filled at a fountain. Can't comment on the drive-thru, I always dine-in since it's quick and easy. Overall highly recommended! read more

I LOVE this place. LOVE IT. I come here all the time and it never fails to be delicious. A long time ago my mom wanted me to come here, but I was skeptical because of its outside appearance (which isn't bad? I'm just picky) but I was so surprised when I finally went and fell in love. The inside is very clean and organized and the food is just amazing and reasonably priced too. I always get the chicken and rice plate with a pita bread. Food is pretty good since it's the only Greek restaurant in the Georgetown area. The owner and the men who work there are very very cheap on issuing you meat for your gyro. The young lady who works there is generous for what you pay. The others, no way are you getting the amount of meat for what they charge you. Hey all, give the customers what they pay for and be nice about it. Your people skills are lacking. Just saying........honesty and feedback is always a good thing. The lemon chicken soup is good and so is the salad. The lamb/beef gyro meat has a subtle weird after taste we can't place. However the thing we really did not like is the restaurant's staff are so rude. We won't be back, we'll go to apprecio grill in austin or zorba Greek food in round rock. I love greek food and was disappointed here. The hummus was runny. The rice bland - no aromatic rices served here. The salad had good and fresh ingredients, but their flavors were drowned out by the heavy dressing. Most the food in the cafeteria looked over cooked. They were generous with a piled high serving of gyro meat on the gyro plate, but i could live without the unexceptional meatball and sauce. The only thing i liked was the pita bread. I'm not a fan. My wife really likes this place, so I went with her yesterday only to develop food poisoning shortly thereafter. I know it was from there because I hadn't eaten anything else all day.
