This Greek restaurant has amazing meat. I'm in love with their lamb and their meatballs. Their rice is very good too: almonds and peas and other deliciousness. The food is pricey though. You'll be hard pressed to find something to eat for under $9. Nonetheless, I feel that the plates of food they offer are relatively healthy, with a salad, a ton of meat, a pita, etc. If you like Greek food, this is definitely a hit. I love love love Plaka and have been a patron since day one. I hate to give them anything less than 5 stars, because I truly love their food and the owners. However, the last few times I've been, I've received extremely sparse amounts of meat (I typically order the Sampler) that have come out crunchy, dry plasticky texture, and sometimes burnt. The sides are as good as ever, but I've been really disappointed with the quality of the meats the last few months. I really hope I'm just getting bad cuts when I go and that the quality hasn't decreased. Please look into this plaka. I love you guys and always recommend you but I'm really disappointed. read more

I just moved to Austin and this has become my favorite place. The food is amazing. Growing up in Chicago, I love gyros. These gyros remind me of my childhood. My favorite is the gyro plate, The meatballs are so tender and flavorful and The rice has got good flavor. Next time I go, I want to try the lemon soup and some of the desserts. This is the home of the true Gyro! It's full of flavor and so full of meat, you'll be picking the juicy bits off your plate! The decor inside is nothing special, but that doesn't usually matter to me because I just go through the drive-thru on my way home for dinner and a good movie. My fave here is the lemon chicken soup. I pair it with a greek salad or a chicken gyro. This place is da bomb. Everything is fresh. It's cafeteria style, but portions are generous. The inside definitely has a mediterranean feel. Its painted very homely and has greek paintings lining the walls. It is almost cafeteria style with trays and what not, so getting food is extremely fast! I had the gyo and chicken plates. Like others say, the portions are huge! Easily enough for two to share. Each plate comes with hot fresh and fluffy pita bread. The gyro meat was soft and flavorful. However the chicken was kind of dry, the only major complaint with the food. The Souvlaki picture is a kebab... ordered that thinking I'd get some tasty tender kebab meat. What I got was pieces of fajita meat laid over rice. Marinated in something very strange, the flavor was not very good. The meat was very chewy. Imagine HEB frozen fajita meat but not sliced up. Lots of reviews talk about being family owned... They must not work evenings. The workers, including the 'Manager', were apathetic at best. The gyro meat was pretty decent. Overall just you average fast food Greek place. read more

I've moved away from the Georgetown area and man, do I miss Plaka! I use to come here a lot for lunch. Softest pita bread around and BEST tzatziki (thick, creamy, full of flavor). Their portions are large. Usually the half size is plenty. I don't know what they use in their dressing, but it's just so delicious. Plaka's has set the bar for other Greek restaurants. In case anybody is wondering, this place is still phenomenal. They have put in better signs for the food and done a little bit more decorating. However, the basics are rock solid with the food being authentic Greek. And, it remains very clean both behind the counter and in the seating area. The simplest gyro selection that comes with soup or salad is plentiful. However, don't only try that because all the Mediterranean sides are amazing. Prices have remained very reasonable in the $8 range. The place never seems very crowded except perhaps Sunday lunch. However, there is always plenty of people there to keep them in business. read more

Very good for a casual Greek restaurant. Lamb souvlaki is very good and served with lemon and tzatziki. They occasionally have kataifi but their regular baklava is excellent. Ordering is done at the counter but food is brought to the table. Decor is a mixture of Greek religious reliefs and watercolor paintings of the islands, and laika (contemporary traditional Greek music) is played quietly. read more
