Guess it was bound to happen at some point, the Best restaurant in Georgetown has come under new management/ownership, and the food quality and service has seriously deteriorated. For years, this was my family's "go to" place for a meal out each week. The food was flavorful, fresh and prepared perfectly! The last two times I've gone there, it's been horrible. One time I recd gyros with fat on the meat, and then on a trip through the drive-thru, they gave us beef instead of a chicken wrap meal, and two pitas were burned and inedible. So good, I drool just thinking of this place. Their chicken wraps can come with a side salad that is divine, with feta, black olives, and a Greek dressing. The wraps are large enough for two. The baked lima beans - doesn't sound good, does it? - are so good I can't explain. These are through the roof on deliciousness, just like their spicy black bean soup. Oh, and there's something called pistachio - ground beef with cheese n other comfort food. The only miss is their pot roast. It's a bit dry. This place has made Greek food my new go-to. read more

Good food, except price's a lil high for food amount you get. The chef cooked the food quick and had it ready so that's a plus but by the time the waiter noticed and brought it to us it was cooled.but other than that great place .I just came from austin and Houston and this wasn't the best greek food I had do far but will be back because I think its one of the few mediterranean places around here. read more

We decided to give Plaka a try for the first time, on the way out of town today. Wow! It was fantastic. We both got the gyro wrap combo with a salad plus some hummus & baba g. Everything was wonderful. Will definitely be going back soon. read more

Sometimes, I hit the drivethru just for the Baklava. Dinner is very good. Nice vegetarian options. The staff isn't too pleasant though. They kinda just want you in and out as quick as possible. read more

I find it necessary to mention how rude and uninviting the staff were. My husband and I were really looking forward to some authentic Greek food. When we entered the restaurant we were not greeted and when I mentioned it was our first time the man behind the counter asked, "what do you want?" I recognized George the owner and he did not even acknowledge us or tell us welcome. Attitude aside, the food was very bland and my combo platter was very disappointing. My food was cold, the chicken was dry to the point that it got stuck in my throat. The standard shaved gyro meat was very dry as well. The stuffed grape leaves seemed old and the falafel was dry and could have been used as a hockey puck. The hummus didn't taste like anything . All in all very disappointing. Needless to say we will not be returning and when we want delicious Greek food we will go to Zorbas! read more

my man took me here last nite for dinner. neither one of us had been there. i love mediterranean and greek. he is kinda new to all that. the falafel would have been perfect if it were deep fried fresh. it wasn't crispy enough for me, still tasty though. the chicken was nice. the rice was excellent. my portions were really good, while my man's portions were skimpy. he got meatball(one) over rice. i got two falafel. he got one. i would rate this 4 stars, except this little short punk behind the counter had attitude with us, probably because i gave my man a bite of my falafel from my hand, and he did not wanna deal with my gay ass. next time maybe we'll just pull down our shorts and go at it right in front of him and see how he likes that! read more

Growth, "progress" mean many things to many people. An upside, is the dining diversity that comes with population explosions. Finally Georgetown is beginning to flutter its little culinary wings. Having choices other than Tex-Mex and BBQ is exciting. And Plaka is a great start. The food is wonderful and fresh. I've never been disappointed upon leaving there. I love Greek food. This place is one of my faves for Greek food. Usually I get the Gyro plate but today I got the make-your-own-plate. I'm really sad to write this review. I've eaten here many times over the years and have loved the authentic taste. Today I ordered 2 chicken gyros and an order of tiropita (4 in the order) and paid 26.60 for it. I was expecting the same delicious food I've always had and was sadly disappointed. The gyros were lacking in flavor and only had chicken and bag lettuce (matched exactly the kind in my fridge that was in a bag from HEB). There was minimal chicken, no onions, no tomatoes or feta...just bag lettuce. The feta salad that came with it on the side was the same bag lettuce with 1 tomato and 1 cucumber. The tiropita were very flaky they fell apart when picked up and had barely any filling. For 26.60 I expected better quality especially considering you can get more food for less at Simple Greek. read more

On its firs try, Plaka may have jumped to the top end of my favorite places to eat. My meal was that good. The food here is fresh. Certainly the best feta salad I've had in a while. The gyro meat was steeped in flavor. Even the coke machine tasted good. I liked the fact that they didn't serve fries. This is an old school place. The decor is cliche, and the cafeteria style serving is not for everyone, but the servings are HUGE. We came on a Friday night, and the place was packed. Good for them! read more

Pretty good for a sporadic stop in. My 3 year old enjoyed the vegetarian plate that came with hummus, steamed veggies, a bread and dipping sauce and I had a gyro and feta salad which was fresh and light. Love this food! With small kids, their drive thru is so convenient. Its nice that you can order any meat by the pound. My kids love the dolmas with cucumber sauce. If I need a veggies with dinner I just pick up sides of mixed broccoli, cauliflower, squash, carrots! Was decent. Gyros were over-stuffed, dolmades we're over-stuffed and microwaved right in front of us, also tasted more like stuffed peppers than dolmades. Tzatziki also tasted store bought rather than freshly made, and the falafel was mushy and store bought. Nowhere near actual Greek food, but not the worst. read more

Our family enjoys eating at Plaka. There are plenty of options for young children like my six and eight year old. I always get the soup and Gyro combo. I love the lemon chicken soup! A much needed restaurant in town. Having a variety is always good for us. We've been eating there since it opened and it's been consistently great. The gyros are really good and large enough to share. Other items are also good like their combo plate and salads. Only suggestion I would have is to slow down a bit when preparing your food. Every time I go in there, busy or slow, it seems like they try to prepare the plate as fast as they can and it sometimes a little sloppy, but still very good. Minor issue. Cafeteria style ordering and it's fast but good. The place is always clean and the workers are always nice. Keep up the good work guys!! read more

Had a Gyro and the meat was so dry it was difficult to chew. Will never order that again. The stew was nicely seasoned but completely devoid of chunks of meat. The Pastichio tasty indeed, will order again. The salads were made with nicely chilled lettuce, tomatoes and had a very good tangy yogurty dressing. We will return, but will demand freshly sliced meat for the Gyro. read more

Sorry, I thought this the worst Greek food I have ever eaten, or not eaten to be more exact. The meat was in large pieces, dry and not eatable. The falafes were falawful. They were extremely dry and bland. I talked to the guy at the counter and he more or less said you ordered it so be it. So I left it there on the plate and left. I was really let down in the service and quality of food. I couldn't recommend this to anyone. I don't know what the other reviews had to compare it too to give such good ratings. I've had wonderful Greek food in many larger cities. My visit was at least a year ago. I see from other posts there has been ownership change. I'm so glad Yelp was there to help me find this place on my trip south on Highway 35. Talk about a perfect rest stop. I was just thinking how difficult it is to find good healthy fast food on the run off the highway. And then this little Greek restaurant turns up. Super fast, friendly and quick to adapt to an off-menu request for a salad with a bunch of falafel on it. And the ingredients were all fresh, with a wonderful plating and taste. Definitely worth a stop by here. Very convenient access right off the highway, parking right out front. I'm refreshed and ready for the next hour of the journey. read more

This is a great place to get something other than the normal fast food around town. If we're not sure what to get, we just head off here and get food. The whole family (wife, 7 yr old son and myself) enjoy the food here. The prices are pretty decent as well. The gyros are excellent and not greasy. I've eaten lunch here several times and have yet to be disappointed. The staff is always friendly, the food always good, and the serving size is large. I usually have to take some home. I usually get the Gyro combo with the lemon chicken soup. The only minor complaint I have is the ambiance is a little lacking but the food makes up for it. If you're around the Williams Drive area looking for lunch and don't want the typical Tex-Mex kind of stuff, give Plaka a try. read more
