We were craving something a little more refreshing after a few days of heavy American food. Meditteranean seemed like the right choice. We easily ordered online for takeout for a simple night in. We really liked the moussaka. For fast food style, the moussaka definitely tasted fine restaurant quality. We also ordered a Chicago style gyro and it was solid, but not mind-blowing. My mom likes Greek salads so we ordered one for her in mind, but we all ended up liking it a lot and stole bites. We added pork souvlaki to the salad and it was tender and yummy even though it appeared dry. I guess this spur of the moment dinner option was full of surprises! Just a great takeout option for the family if you like classic gyros. The Vienna location can be rather busy during peak times (Friday or Saturday nights). First, I would recommend that you order in advance to save waiting time. Since the parking lot is near the intersection of Lawyers Road and Route 123, you'll need to some patience to exit the lot if there's a lot of traffic. Second, the seasoned fries are outstanding as my two teenage sons (16 yrs, 14 yrs) can attest. If you order them Chicago plaka style, they'll put the fries directly into your sandwich. My kids enjoy mashing it together in one place, but I find it overwhelming. It's a bit like a Primanti Brothers sandwich (from the Pittsburgh chain) where the fries are placed in your sandwich. I will say that the meat is seasoned well, but a tad on the salty side for me. My sons and wife disagree on the salty part. But this is the only reason for 4 stars. Third, it's worth trying the other items on the menu (e.g., chicken souvlaki). During the COVID-19 pandemic, it looks like Plaka Grill reduced the number of indoor tables available and implemented a streamlined takeout system. Since we wanted to eat at home, this time around we asked take out. The cashier was kind enough to offer to take it out to our car when the food was ready. We had fakes soups (lentils and vegetables), chicken souvlaki platters, and a chicken souvlaki gyro. So good, some of my family members swear by greek food now. The only question mark is why the greek salad would have lettuce? Real greek salad should not have lettuce! Plaka is one of our long time favorites and offers consistent, tasty, fresh greek/Mediterranean favorites. My personal go-to is the Plaka Gyro - fresh pita with nice pieces of pork, tasty red onions, tomato, tzatiki, topped off with the nicely seasoned plaka fries. Good stuff. I also enjoy their lemony Avlogemeno soup which is another Greek staple. We've also had the Roasted Chicken which is flavored nicely with various spices and a surprise is the kid's chicken tenders. Not your average tenders as they are seasoned, crispy and fried nicely with a honey mustard sauce. Another place that I am surprised I had not reviewed before. I have been here plenty of times over the years. I always find the food delicious, especially the gyros. It's like comfort food, when I want something tasty, hot, fast and filling. The kitchen staff is efficient and helpful. Inside seating and the tables are far apart. Not very comfortable though, with 4 big legs that prohibit, even a small person to get feet or legs in. Always clean. You won't go wrong with anything on the menu. We are rarely in Virginia, so have eaten at Plaka Grill only two or three times over the past several years. Each time, it's been excellent. Tonight was no exception. There were five in our party tonight, and we all enjoyed our meals. The weekend special appetizer, "Feta Me Meli" was incredible. STALE fries! Avoid "plaka" style. I don't know why but as a person who loves getting takeout, I have been having negative experiences dining out this past month, even though I always hope that my next order will be good and that nothing will go wrong. Well I was proven wrong, yet again. :( Judging by the amount of good reviews on here, I am disappointed! Avoid the fries here, please. They are stale! I ordered a Chicago Gyro (Plaka style) which means they include fries in the gyro sandwich. Much to my disbelief, upon trying one of these fries, I bit down and what seemed to be a stale and refried fry. It seems like maybe they used old fries from lunch time and then fried them again resulting in their fries being as hard as a rock. I was unable to really eat any of them as they were all completely hardened. I attached a pic for reference. This was what I was looking forward to the most and what ended up not tasting so great. The meat was good, pretty standard seasoning, nothing super memorable. One thing I appreciated and the reason for an extra star is they gave good portions for the meat. The tzatziki sauce was good. We were visiting family for Christmas and eating out was not a good option (The youngest in the family is too young for a Covid vaccination.) Ordering and pickup was easy. We happened to be in the area and it was dinner time so Yelp lead us to Plaka Grill. My fiancé and I both got the Chicago Gyro Platter, one with roasted potatoes and one with fries. At first I thought the price was a bit steep but the plate came out pretty loaded! I liked the fries a bit more than the roasted potatoes though since the potatoes weren't really seasoned. Solid gyro place. Came here for a late lunch on a Friday, so thankfully, it wasn't too packed. My boyfriend and I both got Chicago style gyros (lamb and beef) combo. He got his Plaka style (fries inside the gyro), and I got mine regular. The meat was very tender and flavorful! So good. The fries were very lackluster for me. They were limp and soggy, and just didn't really taste that great. It was cooked to perfection, juicy and filled with flavor. You receive warm pita bread with the chicken, so wrap it up. This place is a nice change from a lot of other run of the mill restaurants. Their gyro sandwhiches / platters are really good as well. It is what you imagine gyro platters would be , comes with a simple side salad / fries. In my opinion, it's not anything extravagant but it is a local spot and it's easy to order food and the service is pretty quick.
