I was able to make a reservation on a Friday afternoon for dinner that evening. Plan B is easy to find with sufficient free parking. We were celebrating, so we were dressed up. However, the local Fair Oaks patrons were not quite as dressed up as we were. Nonetheless, we were greeted warmly and were shown to our table though we were about 15 minutes early. All the staff were very friendly and our server was knowledgeable about the menu and specials and made great recommendations. I selected the pappardelle with langostino lobster, mushrooms, ramps, and tomatoes in a light cream sauce. It was fantastic! The garlicky ramps were a perfect touch without making the dish something you taste for hours later. My dining companion had the ribeye, which was served with shoestring fries that were pleasantly tossed in herbs, and I think a bit of butter. The steak was cooked as requested, and it too was great tasting! For dessert, we shared the apple tarte tatin with vanilla gelato. It was good, though. I have made tarte tatin before, and mine was much better. The dining room was small and intimate, but it was bustling with conversation and sometimes hard to hear. For two meals, a dessert, a beverage, and a side of bread and butter (no, it is not complimentary), the bill was about $70, which I would consider quite reasonable these days. Utterly disappointing We had a reservation for 7:30 PM on Saturday night and entered the restaurant at 7:29pm. Upon entering there was no clear guidance on where we should be. There was no hostess stand, no one greeted us, and not a lot of room in the restaurant. A woman, obviously an employee, came out of the kitchen went to another table, noticed us standing there, turned around and went back to the kitchen. The bartender in the front noticed us standing there, but, again, ignored us. Finally, after a few uncomfortable minutes another bartender (?) came out from behind the bar, greeted us and sat us. He was also our server and seemed to be the only person actually working in the restaurant. Service and the kitchen were both incredibly slow. By 8pm the wine we brought was opened and had ordered appetizers. We ordered the Stix sampler, the special tartlet (apples and Brie), and the carpaccio. The Stix left something to be desired - really just meat on a stick. The salmon was good, the prawn was a little tough but had good flavor, and the 'rib eye' was grisly and tough. The tartlet was good and the server had it cut into more pieces than normal since there were five members in our party. I can't review the carpaccio because it never arrived. Mains finally arrived about 75 minutes after we did (thats for two pieces of fish and three rare steaks). Between us we ordered the halibut x2, the filet, and the 'rib eye' x2. The halibut got good reviews and looked perfectly cooked. The filet looked nicely cooked (not quite to temperature) but also got a good review. The 'rib eye' on the other hand ... well, it wasn't a rib eye! They can claim they are serving rib eye but if that piece of meat they served me was rib eye I'll eat my socks! It was the toughest most grisly piece of meat I've had in years. I did look around to see if I could speak to someone about it, but by 9pm I was ready to start gnawing on the table so I just ate it. The fries were OK, but over seasoned, and the sauce permeated the entire dish with black pepper. The server, who missed 1/3 of the appetizers, was BY FAR the highlight of the evening. Such a cute little spot! The staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming- they take care of you! I'm a bit of a Calamari fanatic, and i'm not sure i would order it again from here, but otherwise the food is delicious! I had the chicken, and the veggies that came with (i believe a ratatouille? and mashed potatoes) were divine! Stole more than a few fries off my boyfriend's plate, & everyone enjoyed their meals! It can get a little noisy in here just in case you wanted a quiet romantic dinner I wouldn't necessarily come here but for a group of friends and family I'd recommend! Recently my Wife and I went on one of our first actual dinner dates in years since the pandemic. We were excited to try Plan B, as the food on Yelp looked amazing. When you enter the restaurant the vibe is great, low music playing, ceiling fans keeping the temperature just right, and friendly staff to greet you. We sat down and decided on some appetizers first. We went with the calamari, and some prawn stix. Both were delicious! For dinner my wife went with the duck confit and I went with the filet mignon. I ordered my filet rare and it came cooked perfectly. The dijon sauce was great with the cauliflower it came with. My wife's duck confit was served on top of these white beans, and we were shocked at how good they were. To round it out we ordered a creme brulee and it was fantastic. 10/10 meal, and we will definitely be going back. read more

After getting some recommendations on Nextdoor Neighbor, I opted to come here last week for my birthday dinner! I made a reservation so we were seated promptly. If I remember correctly, we arrived a little bit before our reservation time of 6pm. The restaurant was relatively empty being so early in the evening, and I was grateful for our ability to be seated early. Service was polite, inviting, quick and accommodating. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to check out their wine list. It was sweltering outside and a glass of red wine was not where my heart was at. We started out with the prawns stix. Two prawns beautifully plated. It was delicious. I wish there were more, but that's just the glutton in me. My wife enjoyed the Filet Mignon cooked perfectly medium rare. I was absolutely torn between the Rack of Lamb and the Duck Breast. So, since it was my birthday, I got both! Sometimes duck can be a bit too oily, but that was not the case here. It was cooked to perfect with a side of mashed potatoes. The lamb also came with mashed potatoes, which made me a happy girl. The lamb was tender and juicy. It was a generous helping of meat when it came to the lamb. Where as the duck seemed to be a slightly smaller portion size. However, this is more of an observation than it is a critique. I certainly left feeling much more full than I intended to. I wish I had left room to sample their dessert menu. I will say the atmosphere wasn't as posh as I was hoping for. The restaurant is located in a low key shopping center. I thought we had the wrong address at first. It was a little off putting. It didn't feel as elevated and elegant as I was hoping for and I certainly felt a little overdressed. They had a tv in the bar area which always rubs me the wrong way when I'm searching for fine dining. So while the overall vibe of the restaurant was not what I was hoping for, the meal 100% delivered. I left with a full tummy and a wonderful birthday memory. The two other guys along with me were extremely hungry and we left very satisfied having a great meal . They do mussels in 10 different ways. Not a huge menu but something for just about everybody . Salmon, Prawns, chicken and a steak. They seem to do each of these things well, the Plan B Burger with wild mushrooms was really fantastic according to my friends. We started with the baked brie appetizer and bread and butter. Their house jelly on the brie was amazing. Even the butter tasted better than butter at home. Hubby had escargot and mussels and loved both. My mom had the rack of the lamb and it was delicious. I had the risotto with lobster, also super amazing! They both had the banana fosters and I had the cheesecake. We loved everything so much we are already planning to go next month again. Had very high expectations for this establishment. Came here for dinner and ordered a few entrees to share with my dining companion. We enjoyed the mussels with the coconut base, risotto with prawns, scallops with Brussels sprouts and the lamb chop dish. Everything was good, but nothing memorable enough for me to come back for more. The scallop dish was a little heavy on the salt and was probably my least favorite entree. The mashed potatoes layered beneath the scallops were gooey, yes gooey. And you know what that means. They were over mashed which leads to an undesirable starchy consistency. The lamb chops was my overall favorite, however I did not find the tomato & pineapple side to pair well with this dish. Service was phenomenal. Our waiter was super nice and very friendly! Plan B is down the street from my home. It is almost a hidden gem with a great food list. We have been here twice and each time is has been tasteful. I've had the rack of lambs, they were great. The second dish I've had here was a pork dish. Both are from the chalkboard menu. The service is always good, they respect your time with whomever you are with. The ambiance is very lively, as the bar has a wide range of drinks to choose from. read more

I chose Plan B to celebrate a benchmark accomplishment because I seldom have French food. I had been to the Midtown location, which I loved, but seems not to have survived the pandemic. The food was exceptional: the asparagus was perfectly cooked with just enough char, the venison carpaccio a little too cold, but delicious, the crème brûlée light and smooth. The service was friendly and attentive. I do agree that the setup for greeting people is very awkward, and I missed the opportunity to banter with someone who is French that I enjoyed at Midtown. French onion soup was horrible. No brandy, thyme, carmelized onions or crouton top. Nasty gray onions and broth with small chunks of baguette tossed in. Flavorless. Mussels were pretty good. Hard to mess up mussels. Rib eye steak was well prepared although seriously overpriced. And...got charged extra for a 1/4 hunk of Raley's baguette and teaspoon of butter. Plan B is located in a small shopping complex behind a gas station. Kind of an odd location and parking was not the ideal situation either. We had reservations because it was a friends birthday and we all stood at the front entrance just waiting. The bartender and wait staff passed us numerous times before we took over what we assumed was our table since it was large enough to accommodate our party and empty. Once seated we waited FOREVER for water. We should have known that was a warning of things to come but my friend is a huge fan of this place so we stuck it out. This location is small but it was still fully packed and they seem to have had only one waiter and the bartender. Everything took so long to get! There were 9 of us so I understand things taking awhile but I'm talking about a 3 hour dinner because of the slowness. This place is fairly pricey for the small portions but it was all very delicious. My filet was cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was the perfect accompaniment. Their desserts were equally yummy. We had a berry tart and creme brûlée which was demolish is record time. Overall, Plan B is lovely restaurant; my only real complaint was the snail pace service. read more

The food is nothing much more than average. We all ordered rib eyes which seem to get smaller every time we come back. The only consistency is they will overcook your steak. Appetizers and desserts were again overpriced and underwhelming on our recent visit in September 2023. Service remains good and the ambiance is still pleasant. Had a beautiful Christmas Eve dinner here with our family. Food was delicious and the owner was so sweet and social - she really made our evening. They had some initial challenges with our reservations (about 25 minutes behind), but they immediately brought out calamari when we were finally seated. Our table guest had salmon, pork tenderloin, tomato tartlet, French onion soup, baked chicken and creme brûlée. Everything was prepared with love and presentations were on point! We had a lovely dinner here. I ordered the chicken and my husband ordered the steak. Very tasty and cooked to perfection. Once we were seated, our server, Negan, was attentive and helpful. I also recommend getting dessert, which was a delicious fruit tartlet. Minus one star because they need a better system for greeting people when they enter. We stood for several minutes and ALL of the staff behind the bar just looked at us. No greeting whatsoever until I practically waved down a guy who was just standing there. My husband and I came to this location because the one in Midtown was booked up. I was a little weary because the name, Plan B, is a little offsetting (thanks to pharmaceutical commercials lol) and this location is in a shopping strip. But don't let that fool you! The atmosphere was warm and intimate, perfect for a date night. We started with the tomato tartelette, my husband had the rack of lamb, and I had the pappardelle langoustine. Why is this place called Plan B? It should really be Plan A for all date nights and dinners! I stopped by around 5pm for dinner and was greeted by a pleasant worker. Upon being seated, he took my drink order and gave us time to look at the menu. The real gem is here the mussels, so we decided to try out the Mariniére Mussels (~$16) and added Pomme Frites for $3. The mussels were full of flavor and the sauce which was made from garlic, white wine, and parsley, was delicious. It was a perfect dipping sauce for the fries. We also went with their Lamb Chop on the Specials Menu (~$32) which included 5 lamb chops, mashed potatoes, and ratatouille. I initially wanted the lamb chops to be cooked Medium but it was recommended I try the Medium Rare, so I did. And it was actually delicious! The lamb was tender and full of flavor. We ended the evening with some Creme Brûlée (~$9). It wasn't too sweet but it was light and creamy. The top was caramelized and torched beautifully. It was a great way to end the meal. Overall, this dinner was amazing! But it is definitely on the pricier side. It came out to ~$60 per person. This isn't your typical dinner spot but is a good option for a special occasion. read more

Plan B is so special to me for so many reasons. While they have the best mussels in town, excellent food and service, staff with French accents and a beautiful romantic dining room the most important reason why I love this place is because it is where my fiance and I had dinner before he proposed! Last year is kind of a blur now but I remember having the most delicious mussels, salad and scallops for dinner. If I remember correctly the person that served us last time was the same guy that served us two nights ago, Lucas. To celebrate Valentine's Day, our 1 year engagement and exactly 4.5 years of being together we returned for another romantic night out. We started with the coconut mussels and pomme frites. The coconut sauce was amazing- was creamy with a hint of sweetness from the coconut milk and spice from the chile. I can't tell you how many baskets of bread we went through just to have with the sauce. The pomme frites were thin and crispy. My fiance also had an order of the French Onion soup. That too was really good and I loved all the melted cheese on top. The edges were crispy forming a cheese skirt! This time I had the Rack of Lamb and Scott had the Gnocci with Logosta (a cross between a shrimp and lobster). The rack of lamb was served medium rare, with mashed potatoes and a side of ratatouille. The mint oil sauce a cool change from how other restaurants usually prepare rack of lamb. Needless to say I cleaned my plate. Scotts gnocchi was also so good I wished there was more. The gnocci was homemade and went well with the longosta. The cream sauce was worth scraping with bread. If I had the chance I'm pretty sure I could finish two portions of this dish on my own. That night we learned the Plan B Cafe was scheduled to have their soft opening the next day. Lucus provided great service before he had to leave to prep the cafe. This restaurant is definitely on my top 10 list for favorite restaurants in Sacramento and I'm excited to see what the cafe will have to offer. read more

I live nearby and I've never seen this restaurant until a friend of mine took me here for dinner. I was so surprised! The owner came directly to introduce himself and he also told us a little history about him. I was so impressed. The service, food, ambiance and drinks was great. Oh the soup was so delicious. I didn't try the wine, instead I had my usual lemon drop. So delicious! We really enjoyed our dinner and when we left, the owner came by to invite us to return. wow!
