We went to plan b for Mothers's day, which is a stressful day for most nice restaurants. But they weren't staffed for it. We had a reservation and we stood just inside the front door for a couple minutes waiting for someone , then moved to the bar and stood there for another 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. The escargot was over the top with garlic. Bummer for my daughter's first time ordering snails. My ribeye was tasty, pretty thin cut but still tasty. The problem was my daughter's rack of lamb. Suuuuper rare. Asked them to cook it more and they brought another one back in like 30 seconds that was even worse. Sent that back and STILL came back just a bit more than raw. Fourth time came back cooked, but the crust was pure pepper and served in a pool of oil. They did take it off the bill so that was good. My wife was very pleased with her pheasant. Desserts were outstanding. Get the cheesecake. read more

This place was recommended by one of my foodie friends. She said they have a great duck dish. I love duck. I took one of my other friend for her Birthday here. I made reservations for three of us but when I got there , it was not busy at all and I would of been fine with out the reservation. My friend was already there and had our table. The place was nice looking and had a lot of people at the bar. We ordered drinks , which were fine. My wife started off with a Caesar salad but it didn't have any flavor pretty bland. Her and my friend both got the salmon and it was good. They didn't have the duck that day. SO disappointed . I got the lamb and it was really good. We ended up getting the Beignets for dessert. Plan B is a gem of a restaurant in an unexpected spot in Sacramento. The ambiance of the restaurant is absolutely stunning with dimmed lighting and a modern cabin look. Our server Mark was knowledge of the menu, so kind, and funny. He had impeccable service with a smile. Lastly, the food was delicious. I made the reservation on OpenTable and explained that my dining companion wears hearing aids, so we require a booth instead of being at a table in the middle of the room. Our request was honored, and we had a cozy booth. The meal for two came to $270 (with tip). We ordered a bottle of champagne, an appetizer of escargot, entree of quail stuffed with foie gras and New York steak. For dessert we shared a pear tarte. Cozy medium sized French place with good service. Great place to sip wine enjoy a leisurely dinner and unwind. The menu is not huge but it is well executed. I enjoyed the French Onion soup and their award winning burger. We also had a escargot to share. Our food was delicious and fresh. My only complaint would be more sauce for the burger and perhaps something to dip the fries in. Hidden gem, although it's not really hidden. Ambiance is fantastic ~ cozy, welcoming, higher end which is unexpected due to the location (shopping center off of busy road). Food is ALWAYS great. Definitely a fan of the French onion soup and the mussels are a must. Menu specials change and never disappoint. Great selection of wines. Cocktails are decent ~ not really "craft" but still really good. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Can get busy so recommend reservations if expecting to drop in for dinner. Outdoor patio is adjacent to parking lot and does not offer much to enjoyable dining BUT the food and service makes you forget about the front end of a car 10 feet away from you. Highly recommend. The ambiance is satisfactory. The service was very good. However, the food did not work for me. I had a $45.00 steak that was all grizzle and fat. I told the waiter and he smiled. Obviously, he cannot disagree. But he could have replaced it or let the cook come out to chat and tell me why he fed me such a poor cut of meat. Went here for our anniversary dinner and really enjoyed it! Our waiter was very knowledgable of the menu and also made an amazing espresso martini. We went the minute it opened so it wasn't too loud and we did not have to wait too long for food. It is very small inside so I would recommend making a reservation to avoiding waiting. The only thing I wasn't too fond of how much sauce there was on the steak but next time i would just ask for it on the side. Went here for that first time last night. Who knew this little gem was hiding in the back? Kind of dark, and moody. We had reservations for my friend's birthday. We are lifers at Plan B. It started way back when we used to go for Rodney's espresso martini. They are amazing! One night the machine was broken so he went to the Starbucks and got espresso for us! His going above and beyond, and the staff feeling like family made us regulars. The food is delicious, staff is so kind and the resaraunt is cozy, and lively. Whether sitting at rhe bar or a table you are treated to a special experience. Cannot recommend it enough. read more

Tried to celebrate a birthday at Plan B tonight. Had a reservation and everything. There were only 2 two-tops available and we were the only ones waiting. They tried to seat us right by the door. I politely asked if we could take the other table (not by the door) and was told it was "specifically requested" by another reservation. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we've experienced this treatment. Shame on us for continuing to try. Long story short, we left. Hard pass. Very French vibes. Total snoots. Came here for Valentine's Day dinner with my fiance. We made the reservation at the end of January and nowhere did it say that they were not going to serve the full menu. So that was kind of disappointing as we were forced to do the set Valentine's Day special. The food was great and everything was done well, but the service we received definitely did not match what we expected. When we arrived, we were not properly greeted and just shuffled to an empty table next to the door which was already not the most optimal seat to have. It would loud with heavy traffic where we sat so really did not set the right mood for us. We had to ask twice just to get waters for the both of us. We understand that Valentine's is definitely a busy day, but we really did expect more attentiveness for a 20% forced gratuity just for a table of 2. It took a while for them to check up on us as it seemed to only be 3 waiters total for the whole night. We definitely will come back to try their regular menu as the food was good, but we were a bit disappointed with what we experienced for this night relative to the total price we had to pay... Date night in Sacramento. I guess what appealed me to choose this restaurant was the name: Plan B. Even though I saw French food was served, I was excited to see what it was all about and if there was some type of concept. After checking in for our reservation, we were seated after a small wait. On a Saturday night, it was poppin here. The environment is very busy and this is a perfect spot for a date and enjoy a fine dine dinner. Our appetizers were side salads, followed by the entrees. My choice was their Plan B burger, while my girl went the best route, with a Filet Mignon. A little wine we ordered so our souls would be relaxed as well. Plan B sits in the Arden Town shopping center and really has minimal competition in the area. We don't go frequently, but tend to go when we want something a little different and don't want to drive too far. We made a reservation a few days in advance for a date night on a Wednesday. The bar was pretty full when we arrived but there will still some open tables throughout. It's a darker restaurant but great lighting and ambiance for a date night or even a celebration. We ordered the coconut mussels (coconut milk, chile, garlic, cilantro) with fries as an appetizer and they were delicious! It's definitely not the most traditional pairing but I was intrigued by the coconut milk and loved cilantro so figured we should give them a try. When it came time to order our dinner my husband ordered the duck, but as he was ordering it a server walked by and said they just plated the last serving. He was really excited about it and it was also kind of weird because it was only 6:30 and the restaurant wasn't packed so I was surprised they had sold out so quickly. (Hence my 4 stars...it seems weird to have a special - which they seem to rotate often - that sells out so early when the restaurant isn't packed...). He ended up ordering the prawn pappardelle which was probably equally as delicious. I'm a lover of french onion soup and after having the bigger appetizer I opted for the soup as my entree. It was a perfect ratio of soup to bread to cheese. We'll definitely be back as we live so close and hopefully my husband can try the duck at some point! read more

Had the privilege of being invited to a wedding reception at the restaurant so the food served was not all on the normal menu but it was the best time celebrating my friends. I believe the tartellates and prawns were the only thing they normally serve but they also made the best burger and fried chicken sliders! The service was impeccable and the love they poured on the newlyweds was amazing. I will definitely be back next time I'm in Sac to try the normal menu. Always such a delight. This is a local neighborhood haunt with a grand euro vibe. They specialize in French fare and the mussels are always divine. I believe there's 5 or 6 different preparations and Im sure I have had all of them at some point or another. There's generally a great buzz going and lots of good energy from the apparent regulars who all live in the vicinity. I thought we had tried all of the upscale restaurants in Sacramento by now, but somehow we missed Plan B! If you haven't tried them out yet, you should make them your Plan A, not Plan B ;) We showed up for our 6pm reservation but the place was empty still so we didn't really need the reservation after all. It did get a little more packed by the time we left, so I'd still recommend making a reservation just in case. They have indoor seating, and although tables were closer together, they were only seating people at every other table. There is also outdoor seating available too and it's on the side of the building in the shade so you won't be sitting in direct sunlight. The menu is pretty simple, but has a variety of different salads or meats so you're bound to find something you like. We ended up ordering the prawns from the regular menu but everything else was from their specials board - ramps soup of the day, raclette tartelette, and pappardelle langostino. The meal comes with complimentary bread and butter also, which paired well with our soup. The raclette tartelette was light and a great appetizer choice, although I was expecting it to be cheesier, based off of the "raclette" name. My papperdelle langostino dish was the winner of the night though. The pasta was thin but flavorful. The meat was tender. The portion size was perfect, and there was just the right amount of sauce. I'd come back here just for that pasta!! Service was great too. Seemed like they had a ton of regular customers. I wish I caught our server's name because he was on top of his game! This restaurant was absolutely fabulous! We enjoyed the customer service which was beyond wonderful and back. We actually felt like we were in Europe because we weren't rushed to eat our food and our table didn't have a minute limit like many of the restaurants now. We started with drinks had soup and salad the French onion soup is delicious. I also had the cantaloupe soup which has a cold soup much like a gazpacho. We also enjoyed the onion tart which was special of the day. It was absolutely incredible and actually I really wish that I hadn't got it to share with my family and that I had eaten it all myself LOL. We ordered a Caesar salad which was fantastic with the anchovies on top very fresh dressing. Two of us ate steak Frites one person had the prawns and one person had the rack of lamb.I have to say the lamb was hands-down my favorite. The steak Frites although I had it prepared medium was still a bit tough. And the sauce on the prawns was fantastic. We also had dessert and I will tell you hands-down their bananas Foster was delicious. There was a single musicians playing a box. The whole evening was great and I enjoyed all aspects! This place was AMAZING. It's not really marketed on the street, it feels like a "hole in the wall" since not many signs for it and it was PACKED. The bar had regulars at it, and you could tell they were when people were leaving, they were calling out each other's names. When we were asked if we had reservations, I knew this place would be packed. We arrived around 6pm. Assuming many people wouldn't be coming because the open table reservations were open. But we were WRONG. This place was packed by 6:30pm!!! So many others came in and there were many regulars and I know why now!! My husband and I had AMAZING food and the service was BEYOND exceptional. We had Calamari to start with our glasses of wine. We were able to get wine first, and they had an amazing list. Not only that, they didn't make a "glass" of wine a 1/4 cup, it was HALF. Which is worth it and so considerate for the price. Our main entrees were Filet Minon, which was AMAZINGLY cooked for medium rare, and my husband had the rack of lamb, which was also extremely tasteful and I would order BOTH of these plates again. They are not on the normal menu, they are on the menu that's on the chalkboard, so basically specials. The desserts were sweet but never too sweet. Just the right mixture. I've driven by this center probably over a hundred times and was pleasantly surprised that I had no idea this restaurant was even here. Ambiance was nice and had some interesting design choices. Restrooms could be improved. I felt it didn't match the aesthetics and cleanliness of the rest of the restaurant. Food was good to great. The ribeye was a little tough to chew and needed more flavor but the fries that came with it was yummy. The lamb with mint was probably the star of the show minus the potatoes that came with it...those were a little burnt and dry. Calamari and risotto were delicious. Roasted chicken was good but maybe a little too burnt as well. Stuffed squash also very good..albeit the prices of the specials, specifically the appetizers were imo too pricey. I grow all my veggies by seed and source everything else as local as possible, have made similar items as those on the menu with organic ingredients and it doesn't cost even a fraction of what they are charging for such a basic appetizer dish. Overall, the food was recommendable and the pricing for all else pretty fair. Our server was not as attentive as we'd like but maybe it was an off day. Also, the scene here seems to be more elderly and more Caucasian, but not surprising considering the area so if you want a bit more diversity, this wouldn't be the place for you. read more

OUR FAVORITE PLACE TO DINE. I cannot rave about this restaurant enough. From the staff, to the food/drinks, the class and decor.. we only come here for all occasions. They seat big parties or just a lovely dinner date night for two. The menu always has specials, and stays updated. Everytime we go in, we know we are going to see something new on the menu. Chris, Rodney, and so many more of the staff are such a pleasure to be around. they always find time for us, even last minute. i have never had any complaint with anything ive been served. Came to Plan B on a Sunday night! We read about this spot and understand their is a location in downtown Sacramento as well! With 2 locations, we figured this spot is a legit place to try! Plan B is known for their lamb and rib eye so I figured to try one of those 2 entrees! For apps, we ordered the calamari, mussels and fries, a Cesar salad, and the French onion soup! Honestly, all the apps were quite good.... the calamari had a light batter yet it was very crunchy!!! The mussels were tasty and the fries tasted great as you dip it in the sauce of the mussels! The French onion soup was very good.... with that melted cheese on the top with the tasty onion flavor! And the Caesar salad was good.... nothing spectacular but it was a good salad! As for the entrees, I ordered they ribeye that had a black peppercorn seasoning! The ribeye was cooked mediums rare and it had fries as the side! Ribeye was pretty good.... slightly too peppery for me but I still wanted to try it! The fries were pretty good.... but it had too much seasoning on them.... My wife ordered the lamb and it was cooked perfectly medium rare.... came with ratatouille and mashed potatoes.... everything went well together and it was very tasty but the mash potatoes wasn't hot.... only room temperature. We also ordered the pork special which is the pork wrapped in a dough.... almost like a beef Wellington! The sauce was tasty and it also came with shrimp and mushrooms! Expensive but tasty dish! Desserts.... we had the lava cake and it was good... could have been bigger as I finished most of it by myself!! Mark was the one taking care of us and he was awesome!
