Fun atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful service - Shepard's pie, cheeseburger, sweet potato fried and steak tacos were all great . Our grandson requested bacon on his kids burger, when it came out they had forgotten it , the waiter immediately went to the kitchen and returned with a plate of bacon. Plan B is located in a historical converted train station, and is an absolutely beautiful building. As a fan of burgers, I found the menu to be fun with about every variation of burger available. The servers were friendly, although I was not a fan of being seated in a booth with part of the last diner's bun on the seat. If it were busier I would have understood, but this particular Sunday afternoon had only parts of the indoor and outdoor dining room full. Fantastic Burgers and Beer selection. The menu is constantly changing which makes coming back even more exciting. The atmosphere is impeccable. As someone who loves old vintage buildings, the old train car for a restaurant is spot on. They have done an impeccable job at building a restaurant and bar within a limited footprint that is both lively for the baby boomers and millennials alike. There is always a burger special, for me that's less exciting due to allergies. What I do appreciate is the variety in fries, salad or toppings. read more

We use to be long time customers of Plan B West Hartford. We ordered 2 Italian Jobs. The employee that took the order didn't know that they are available with a ground chicken patty. When we arrived home and opened the container, we found that there was no fresh mozzarella on them! Plan B has continually gone down hill! We will not be returning! I would rate my food half of what it was worth for the price point... definitely not a $14 burger. Was bland and unseasoned. Only gave 2 stars because of the Parmesan cheese fries. The excessive cup of cheese made me chuckle. Waitress was nice but didn't seem to want to go outside either. Restaurant had a nice beer selection. So I haven't been willing to go to Plan B for many years because last time I went, there were only burgers available. I am so pleased to say the menu has expanded to include options for everyone!! You can choose from different types of tacos (including chicken fish and beef), Mac and cheese combos, wings, fish or chicken sandwiches, and of course burgers! It's awesome you can customize any sandwich, and add different toppings and different sides including coleslaw, salad, and fries. The service was great, but I really didn't like being seated at a two person table right next to a booth. There is barely enough room for the two waitresses to get by, and I could hear every word from the other party's conversation. I understand wanting to make enough space for everyone, but it really ruins part of the experience from an otherwise very romantic restaurant. Plan B's interior and atmosphere are incredibly unique... an old train station turned bar makes a great setting for casual dining. Two different seating areas, both are well-lit, cozy, and inviting. The food is outstanding. If a restaurant is going to call itself a "burger bar", it better have good burgers... and Plan B certainly does not disappoint. Great selection of specialty burgers as well as traditional, excellent variety of buns and cheeses as well. Other menu options are just as good... including the appetizers. You really can't go wrong ordering anything on the menu here. As you'd expect, it gets quite busy during peak times so expect to wait a bit... but it's worth it! read more

Went in after a game with my kids to see our favorite server Kayla (lady with glasses.) We were told by waitress (Annie) she was fired for being rude ( very unprofessional to say to a customer). Server was very short, displaced not very attentive and always on her phone standing at bar. She acted like we were annoying her. Good was Meh... Fries soggy and cold and burgers undercooked. Kids mac and cheese was like paste. Milk tasted spoiled. Some of this food was taken off bill and followed up by another heavy set younger woman ( also with an attitude) asked why did I eat the burgers then complain !?! First off who speaks to a customer like that. Very very rude for management. I think her name was Heaven. And i was told a good server was fired for these young ladies. Appalling!!? I had high expectations based on some recommendations but I really wasn't impressed. We started with the cauliflower firecracker bites which were good to start. I ordered the Super salad with shrimp and it was tasty. The B berry drink was very good tho. It was an infused blueberry vodka. My fiance had the Buffalo chicken burger and he said it was very dry. I am pescetarian so the options were extremely limited. I just wasn't impressed with the menu options or the slow as molasses service. Disappointed is an understatement. I ordered the Baja burger for take out the other day. I never order food out so this was a real treat for myself as my husband was out of town for work and I was with my 9month old daughter all day. The main reason I wanted the burger was for the avocado on it. Sure enough when I got home and sat down to eat, no avocado on the burger. I understand things happen but when I tried to call the restaurant the phone line was out of service. I called the west hartford location to try and get a way to contact the Simsbury location. The gentleman at the west hartford location was helpful and informed the manager in Simsbury. I left my name and number and was told the Simsbury manager would call me. About ten minutes later I got a call from the west hartford gentleman again to make sure I received the call. I informed him that I had not been contacted yet. He then told me that he was informed my the Simsbury manager that I was contacted. I couldn't believe this manager in Simsbury was lying. The west hartford gentleman apologized and said he would talk to them again. I was never again contacted by anyone. Horrible customer service on the Simsbury end. At least the guy in west hartford was trying to help. I understand prices going up to accommodate for businesses to make money but when you are being charged 16.99 for a burger and it's missing one of the main ingredients, what is going on here. Finding a seat during happy hour proves to be interesting at 430pm, when the hostess man isn't interested in seating people as it states. The server for where we were seated also looked our way repeatedly but also not interested in actually doing her job. As it was not busy when we rolled in, but it is now. Well she finally came over but I guess we should have ordered everything we needed for the duration, as we haven't seen Liv since. At this point it's a good business model to have zero service as then your patrons, as you can't really do happy hour. Then when she finally came back I had to shove an entire meal and drink order at her, otherwise I may not see her again to actually place an order. Truly we should have just left at this point, but I'm a glutton for punishment at now 515pm. So it's now 6pm still no food, no water, we are both two drinks deep, yes we made it this far. The bathroom was an adventure, the floors to the bathroom were straight up scary slippery. The bathroom looks clean but it feels like the mopped the floor in there with oil as well and then sprinkled it with baby powder to cover up the urine smell. This is our last trip here and still no food??????! Just what is going on here Plan B???? You have a line out the door, people blocking the entrance, and down the stair well, and you have 3 servers??????? My place of business brings in hundreds of employees to a nearby town every year for training. Whenever I overhear them talking about where they are headed for dinner, it seems that Plan B in Simsbury comes up 50% of the time. Living in Simsbury, I admit that I overlook Plan B, it kind of gets forgotten in favor of the new McLadden's. Well we went to Plan B tonight and walked in at 5:00. By 5:15 it was packed. Every table -packed, Every barstool - packed. The aisle between the bar and the tables - packed. The entry lobby -packed. We started with an Ace Pumpkin Ale and a Stone Coffee Milk Stout at $6.50 each. I liked the Pumpkin Ale- nice, clean, and refreshing. The milk stout reminded me of a Guiness, which isn't a bad thing, but not quite what I expected. Our meals were a Turkey Club with Tater Tots ($11.49), and a Spicy Steak Salad ($14.99). I could not have been happier with the Steak Salad- fresh lettuce, blue cheese crumbles, bacon, onion strings, cherry tomatoes and excellent medium cooked steak slices. It was a terrific dish. I sampled a Tater Tot from my wife's plate and smiled at how good it was! As for the non-food items, well I didn't care for the choice or volume of the music. -sounded like thrash metal played way too high. Our server was perfunctory- zero check-backs during the meal. Ordered "build your own" burgers medium-rare. Waiter said, "You mean pink inside?" We said, "Medium-rare." Waiter said, "Pink inside." We met a friend here a few weeks ago for dinner. He is Vegan and comes here monthly. My husband got a burger on a pretzel bun. Although the roll was fresh, he didn't care for the burger. Tasted like it was fried. The accompanying chips were fine. I had the Cuban Chicken Rice Bowl. It was just okay, the avocado was not ripe. Very few meals leave me as satisfied as a burger and fries washed down with a John Daly from any of the Plan B locations, they are nothing if not consistent in all their restaurants. However, the West Hartford location is often so busy I find more mistakes happen with the orders, so if you're looking for a quieter setting in a really cool location, the Simsbury Plan B is your place. An absolute go-to for me is always the buffalo shrimp, something about the shrimp placed on individual dots of house made ranch, and finely shredded celery and carrots makes for a perfectly portioned appetizer. The last time we went I had the pastrami burger special, it was perfection. A generous slice of their house made pastrami, seedy mustard, and swiss cheese, and a juicy no-pink burger sandwiched in a toasted kaiser roll, and my god was it good. I always get their fries with house beef gravy and cheese, they're like crack fries. And of course, the best accompanying beverage to this burger and fries, a John Daly. It's wasn't packed at all when we came for lunch - i'm assuming that changes as it gets later in the day, but have no fear, they have two floors of seating. The service was fine. The burger was pretty decent too, they have a ton of options. We went for the west coast burger and the baja burger. The west coast was ok - the avocado could have used some seasoning. The baja was great, although spicy so be warned! For beer we got the sam adams hazy which was a nice compliment to the burgers. There are a few of these restaurants in this area, but this is by far my favorite. It is right off of the bike trail trail making it an easy stop for lunch before I turn around going back up to Massachusetts, which is what I usually like to do. On this particular trip it would've been dark so we took the conventional car, and there is plenty of parking. It is clearly an old railway station, but it does have plenty of seating upstairs and downstairs, as well as a patio. There is even a large bar section if you want to sit back and watch sports.If there is a line, do not worry because their staff is efficient and friendly. While you wait, he will get some delicious homemade pickles. Although, we did have a debate whether these were actually pickles or just brined cucumbers. There are some key things that set this restaurant apart from other burger places. The first, is that they offer all types of burgers-a homemade veggie burger, a salmon burger, turkey burger, and the new burger that they were out of, the unbelievable burger (?). There's some trademark to this burger that makes it a vegetarian burger that taste like a 'real' beef one, but I will have to get back to you on that. The second thing is that you can have any burger type served in almost any way, and they offer some delicious variations. I love their pretzel bun. Some people like this other burger that they do that has jalapeños. Also, they have many cheeses to choose from. This is good because I really dislike American. They also have a consistently interesting variety of beer and bourbon. I know the beer selection is always rotating and covers tastes that suit everyone. I enjoy an IPA and my partner enjoys a darker beer. I think I told him to get the Left Hand Milk Stout. Mmmm. This particular restaurant seems to have a more comfortable, laid back feel than the one in Springfield If you are trying to decide, In comparison, Luxe Burger does have a similarly large selection of burgers, but I have never had something that tastes as good as the burgers or fries here. read more

Plan B probably stands for blow your mind. These burgers are fantastic! the meat is hand ground daily at the restaurant for fresh, juicy flavor. There is a good grouping of different burgers and a daily special. I really liked all the burgers I tried, especially the Bacon Cheese Burger. The only one I didn't like as much as the others was the stuffed burger. There was so many good ingredients in the patty it started tasting a bit like a meatloaf sandwich. The Deconstructed Cheese burger salad was my girlfriend's favorite. It is basically a massive cheeseburger minus the bun in a salad plate. Kind of like a Big Mac (but a really tasty one) in a salad. It may not sound amazing but everyone who had it at the table raved. The atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly and it has a full liquor bar as well. We had dinner here last night and from start to finish the service and food was much below average for not just this place but ANY restaurant. Our server acted like she didn't want to be there let alone wait on customers. We got our drinks and ordered our food and didn't see our waitress again for at least 30 mins. The food came out from the runner. The Cobb salad had dry chicken, no blue cheese crumbles or any dressing at all! We had to ask for it? The burger was very over cooked as were the fry's. Still no waitress to ask how our food was, do you need anything or any drinks. We sat without any water or drinks for another 25 mins. Very disappointed and will not be back. read more

I just moved to Simsbury and I was pleasantly surprised to find a Plan B near by. It was my son's first choice for his bday dinner. The food came quickly and my son was in heaven with the chili burger. There is a cute outdoor patio and it's tucked away off the main road which is nice. My husband and I went back a few nights later after a date night and the bar staff was great to chat with while we met other locals in town. We made an attempt to check out another place but, after a bad experience we ventured back to Plan B where we finished our night with good cocktails and conversation. Should have never left! Tonight we tried plan b and we were blown away by everything we had throughout the night. Just want to give a shout out to our waitress Amandale who gave us great service. This place is just so cool and fun, such a great atmosphere, great drinks to choose from (we had Moscow mules which were perfect and refreshing. Just what we needed after this long week). The burger list is great, not so long that it's overwhelming but just long enough that you will definitely be able to find something to your liking. Also you have like 8 different fri options! It was mind blowing. They also have other food options too not just burgers just in case you find yourself there not wanting a burger. I had the breakfast burger that they let me substitute the beef patty for a chicken patty. It came on a croissant bun with bacon, cheese, and a spicy maple sauce with a fried egg. Only thing I would change next time is the bun, the croissant isn't sturdy enough to hold all that goodness and it ended up a little soggy on the bottom. Regardless I ate the whole thing. I also got sweet potato fries which were delicious and made my heart so happy because not a lot of places offer them. My boyfriend had the Baja burger which he ate in a minute flat so I can only assume that he enjoyed it immensely. We went for lunch here. I ordered the Shrooms burger with the mixed greens. The quality of the ingredients are very good here. I enjoyed the crisp half pickled cucumbers they leave on the table. My burger was super flavorful and beefy. The fat gave it flavor without being too greasy. I took off a star because my burger could have used one minute less on the grill (I asked for some pink) and my bun would have been perfect if it was just a little toasty. They never skimp on the cheese which is delightful. I also really enjoyed the dressing on the mixed greens I had with my burger. It was lemony and tangy as opposed to oily. Because service was slow, the manager offered us a free dessert. We chose the Bourbon Pineapple Upside Down cake with ice cream on top. Again, I thought the cake could have used one minute less. I also lost the pineapple and bourbon taste in the cake. The cake was very vanilla-y and he caramel was a little thick. I couldn't taste the ice cream but it was a nice temperature contrast to the cake. I would definitely go back to get that same great flavor in the burger. read more

I am not entirely sure what has happened to this local establishment which was once very reliable in quality and service. Things have gone downhill the last couple times we have been there, and last night was the last I will be going there. Extremely disappointed in the quality of the service and food. 3 of us got there for an early dinner on Saturday night about 5:15, the place was more empty than I can recall in the past at this time, we had our choice of tables. The hostess when we arrived was on the phone with someone asking for reservations and she shot him down with a very rude tone and response that they do not take reservations. That was a bit strange. She escorted us downstairs - there is an upstairs area with a bar and a downstairs are with seating. The waiter was very nice but slow to arrive. I ordered the pretzel burger - which I have ordered a a few times in the past and it has been excellent. My wife ordered the fish and chips platter and we ordered a Caesar salad on the side to share. My burger was plain depressing - the bun was soggy, the mustard was all mushed into the bun, and it was cold. It literally fell apart when I picked it up, I ended up eating what I could with a fork. The cheese was not even melted!!! The fries were pretty much the frozen grocery store fries that were dry and flavorless. The fish and chips were definitely frozen fish that was over cooked, rubbery and plain disgusting, I would not wish it on anyone to eat it. The Caesar salad was a bag of lettuce quality from the grocery store with a couple squirts of Ken's dressing that was not tossed, no Parmesan, no croutons, no nothing, gross and depressing. When we left, still a lot of empty tables past 6:30, which in prior years would be packed and waiting. I give it 2 stars just because the waiter was nice and working as hard as he could, but the quality was extremely missing from the many visits we have had here over the years, I am more saddened than angry by the experience. While I AM a fan of this place, I would give 2 stars for take out and 3.5 stars for dining in. I have never had a bad experience dining in, other than the fact that they do not take reservations or have adequate staff. The food is good and they have other non-burger options that are also enjoyable. Salads are great, however, I'm not happy with the ingredients in the salad dressing -- soybean based anything is unhealthy! According to friends the beer and cocktail menu is great, but in my opinion the wine options are extremely limited. Feel free to call me a wine snob, but I do like European wines (Italian, French, etc.) over Napa. Also, we have occasionally gotten takeout over the years and there is ALWAYS one of us that does not get our order correct. Sometimes it is something small like its absolutely no pink, when I said "pink" or I ask for something on the side and we don't get it at all. It could be anything, but the fact is that our order has never, ever, been 100% correct. We kind of have a running joke when we do get take out from there and say "and WHO will it be??? This particular Plan B location is pretty small, but it's open late. We went in one Saturday night around 10:30 or 11. They only have a limited late night menu, which I ordered from, but then saw other orders come out that had different things from what I though I could order. We asked for a second dish of pickles and the waiter said they had already put them away...I mean how hard is it to take them back out? Everything on the menu said it came with fries. But then I saw someone else get tater tots and I was super pissed because I would have much rather had those. They sort of have a captive audience in Simsbury as no other restaurants really serve food after 10. But I just feel like they could do a slightly better job with what they're able to offer, and syncing up the menu with what is available. I'm not often in the area and when I am, I feel like I have better choices than Plan B...so not sure when/if I'll be back. read more
