This Planet Fitness on Cherry Avenue in Long Beach has a serious problem with selective enforcement, and today was not an isolated incident. I was stopped and threatened with removal, they said they'd call authorities, over a small fanny pack, not even a full sized bag. Meanwhile I watched other members walk in and out with backpacks and bags two, three, even four times the size of mine, and staff said absolutely nothing to them. I have photos to prove it. What stood out most is that every single person who got a pass had a lighter complexion than me. This is not the first time I have felt targeted here, and the pattern is hard to ignore. If a gym is going to enforce a bag policy, it needs to apply it to everyone walking through the door, not just certain members. read more

Clark and the cleaning crew are amazing, for the machines to be in use for 24 hours with customers coming in 24 hours seven days a week this place is immaculate 10/10 the showers the bathroom the equipment. This used to be the cleanest gym in the area... unfortunately not so much lately. The edges of the walls and under the equipment are not getting the attention they used to. Most of the staff is very friendly but there's rarely a trainer here. More than once I've needed help with equipment and the regular staff doesn't know how to help. Overall it's still a great value for the money and it's still the best in the area. Hope they can earn back that fifth star by returning to a cleaning standard of excellence they used to have. read more

The positive is that the membership is $10. The downside is that the workers have almost no reason to try. They're only half paying attention to the people coming and going but will scan you in. They won't call out ppl for slamming equipment and must be restocking at a specific time because paper towels rolls are almost always out in at least one spot around the free weights between the 4 available. I get there's not much for them to do but management should find something to develop them. read more

I love Planet Fitness bit not this one. I have never seen a place where the workers track you down to complain about a thin bag. When I first started, I mistakenly brought in a backpack; i didn't know! I apologized and bought one specifically for the gym. It can only hold water, my energy drink, my cell phone, my keys, and my towel. I even showed the front counter the bag and she said don't put it on the floor, the machines, and you can only wear it. I didn't have a problem with that. However, I saw everyone's cell phones and items on the floor. Some one stepped on a phone which almost started a fight and another person kicked over someone's water bottle where there was a puddle under the machine close to me. I could use the locker but i would be running back and forth to hydrate. I tried to wear it but the drinks were hitting my back. So i saw that some machines did have a bag holder and i decided to only use those. I put my shoe string straps on the holder and within minutes this girl comes up to me saying i can't do that. Now, maybe it's me but why have the holders? Even LA fitness allows you to bring in a bag like that. I should have known when i saw a big argument outside that gym that it wasn't for me. Whelp! I won't be going back. I love the other Planet Fitness centers. They don't chase you down and chastise you like a little kid! They should have posted those rules for people to see before they sign up. read more

Stopped in at this Planet while traveling. It is on the smaller side but appeared to have all the usual equipment. The locker room is surprisingly small. I can imagine during peak hours it would be hard to get a shower. Maybe one day they can do an expansion. The gym was clean, which I appreciate, and the staff was friendly. read more

I love this location the staff is always so nice & pleasant. The gym is up to date on all COVID-19 protocols masks are required while in the gym . I feel totally safe working out here I don't feel judged. I opted for the black card omg glad I did I love the hydro massage chair it's my favorite after working out. Just started coming to this location 2 months ago. So now I can write a review after getting my feet wet. Staff is ok and cleans equipment everytime I'm present. One thing I've noticed, the water filter hasn't been replaced in weeks after the indicator shows that it needs to be replaced- yuck. The gym itself is a bit on the small side which means less weights and benches to use. Though, many cardio machines seem to be always available even during the busy hours. My biggest gripe lately is that there have been a huge spike of teenagers coming due to the free membership promo for students for the summer. With that said, lots of teens have been coming in with inappropriate behavior, hogging all the weights so they can work together, and hogging the benches. It's bad enough that this planet fitness is small and has limited availability for equipment. But now with all these teens coming with no experience in gym etiquette, it's been a pain coming to the this gym. Not to mention, there's a creepy guy that takes his shirt off to look at himself in the mirror every week in the main floor. No staff had approached him about his behavior nor had a lunk alarm has gone off. If that's not an appropriate use of the alarm, I don't know what is. With that said, this will be my last month as I will be joining crunch fitness as it's a better option. More weights, benches and no free memberships for teens. read more

Visited this location today for the first time, so far I've been to the location at the traffic circle on Ximeno and the location in Carson off of lomita. I like this location better than Carson, it's low-key not too many people. Customer service was great with Mister and Teresa, they were very helpful with some of the equipment also very productive. Plus Mister is fine as hell. I noticed this location had some equipment that the location in Carson didn't. Location very clean. Highly recommend read more

After patronizing a Planet Fitness location in Northern California for the past month, we are glad to return to our home Planet Fitness location at Cherry Ave. As I had shared with the manager of this location, the Nor Cal location we had used for the last month was not as well maintained as our home gym. The Nor Cal location was not as well lit as our home location, the machines were not as up to date, and the men's restroom was not maintained very well. I've been a member of PF in the past before Covid. I decided to register again and while working out yesterday I noticed an employee cleaning the equipment. She was so diligently checking every station one by one. This was early in the morning, she could've been relaxing but she was just doing her job. Then as I was leaving walked into the restroom to wash my hands and there she was again checking and cleaning. I was like wow! This young girl, I believe her name is (Ivy) deserves to be acknowledged for her hard work! Honestly from all the locations I've visited in the past, this one is very clean and the staff is very professional. Decided to visit this gym 4 years after joining, back in Kings County. I got my reminder of what makes these guys the go to. The staff members Ivy was extremely helpful, professional and informed. My situation was not simple but she made sure I was able to get it resolved, and have a pleasant workout in the clean environment she and the staff are maintaining here. Planet Fitness like most other gyms have extremely sheisty policies surrounding memberships, they make it purposefully extremely difficult cancel a membership and have zero care whatsoever about their customers in regards to memberships. This was my 1st time coming to this gym and I asked the girl in the front desk Makayla I think... to show me around and immediately she bosses me to sit because she is got to explain to me the price for the membership (no customer service whatsoever she rushed with this horrible attitude of I'm tired what the fk are you doing here get the fk out and rushed thru pricing didn't even consider to wait while explaining to ask me if I was understanding everything she was saying but no she was rushing to make me pay or get out.. I told her that I was ready to take a look at the place and she told me to go and walk around which I did and I saw this room with the hydro massage beds and went to the front desk to ask if she could show me how they work and if i would be able to use them to see if I would like to take the membership and she said no I had to pay upfront if I wanted to use the place... of course I left the place right away obviously the owner has no care to train his employees about tact and customer service and it clearly showed on how this places are run by people who have no interest whatsoever on the client all they want is the hours to go by as fast as possible so they can get their paycheck without making any effort on the actual client and their needs... sad sad experience... one thing is for sure I will never go back to that place again... read more

* GOT MY CAR TOWED* if i can honestly give it 0 stars i would. Parking lot was full so i went next door to Superior to park. I go in do my work out and as soon as i finish i go out and see that my car isn't where i parked it anymore. A security guard from Superior comes up to me and tells me "i'm sorry i towed your car, you can't park here". There i am stranded at 9pm in the night. Go back in and tell the workers there to notify their customers bc there are other cars parked there. An employee tells me that yeah that security guard to petty and tows all the cars that are there, so they are aware of it but don't warn their customers . About 15 minutes go by and i see the tow truck coming and about to pick up a truck so i run inside to tell the employees to let people know and obviously they didn't. Fortunately the guys that owned the truck were there and i let them and and they got their truck before it was towed. I unfortunately didn't and got my car towed i was absolutely clueless that Superior towed your car for parking there. They should put up a warning sign to let customers know.
