I'm a regular at all the sender one locations, and I do really enjoy the route setting for the rope climbs here. I feel as though the climbs are a little more challenging than their LAX location, with more of an emphasis on technique. I also really appreciate how nice the bathrooms are - the bathroom stalls go all the way to the bottom with ZERO gaps (something seemingly hard to find nowadays), and the showers are very clean. Overall between here and LAX, this is my preferred location to go to. read more

Fun place to come with the kids to sender city. It is a bit smaller than the Santa Ana location by two things but it is still plenty to do here. It fills up the whole hr that you get. And the kids are pretty tired by the end of it. Also during the session they open up a huge slide where you get the hang on and then let go and slide down. I think this place is pretty fun for kids to get an introduction to climbing. read more

We did a Sender One tour today, hitting Lakewood, LAX and Santa Ana. I was able to do it all on one punch too of my initial one punch card. I felt like this was a smaller facility and the wall didnt stand out as much. Parking is much easier. Staff was great and very friendly and engaging. This is such a great indoor rock climbing gym for the area! Lots of bouldering options and a decent ropes section. Very spacious and best of all, a new sauna on the way! I first joined Sender One at the end of 2019, months after I relocated to Long Beach from Florida, and I never looked to join any other climbing gyms. I've certainly visited the various gyms in the LA and OC areas, but S1 just kinda became home over the years. Certainly, I have been hurt and disheartened by the ongoing membership pricing increases, but I have remained loyal. Since the announcement of Lakewood a couple years ago, I have been impatiently waiting its opening. As a Long Beach resident who works at Long Beach Memorial, this gym would be in the perfect location for someone like me! I got to visit for today's open house, and I felt excited, elated, and relieved all at once. The 50-foot walls bolted with quick draws hanging from them brought a welcome smile to my face. Sure, it's not as high or as wide as LAX, but these are excellent walls, and I can't wait to climb! Speaking with the staff this evening, I found their enthusiasm infectious! There is bouldering here, yoga, a unique Sender City experience, and an exercise area, as well. Essentially, you'll find what you would expect in a full-service Sender One. For those complaining that there aren't as many climbs here, it feels comparable to most big/nice gyms I've visited around the country. An amazing climbing gym with a great selection of top rope and lead climbing, plus a huge bouldering section. Reasonably priced memberships, including a monthly guest pass. They have lots of events and classes, plus yoga for climbers and a traditional gym area. For the kid in us all (and actual kids too, I guess) they also have Sender City, which is a kid-centric climbing area that is perfect for an adventurous party. It has themed climbing walls that you can race up that happen to be extraordinarily challenging for grown ups. And some of the challenges are epic, like the huge slide that is completely vertical and wobbly towers you have to balance while climbing. By far coming down is the hardest part! read more

Ok for starters Chris at the front desk was very informative best on my needs that I was inquiring about regarding my daughter sensory needs. I was a bit nervous to enter since I didn't know how it was going to play out! When we met Hank in the briefing room and he was going over the safety instructions he was very kid friendly and supportive during our visit my daughter ended up getting too scared to climb down and he assisted with helping get her down in a calm manner it definitely enhanced my experience. Update: The manager who responded to this did in fact reach out to "address my concerns." Apparently a half hearted apology and a bunch of excuses count as addressing my concerns. You could at least acknowledge the awful scheduling of two of these in consecutive months. You didn't even do that. You didn't offer ANYTHING. You would have been better off saying nothing and just ignoring my email and review. This place is a mixed bag. It's clean, well lit, air conditioned, and has largely great employees. However, they keep closing the bouldering sections or a majority of them for days at a time for outside competitions. During that time I can't boulder, or am severely restricted in what I can climb. To further exacerbate the situation, after the competition the routes are far fewer and often only routes from the competition which aren't accessible to a wide variety of people. This means I basically can't use the gym I'm paying $113 a month for a membership at for upwards of two weeks. Meanwhile I'm still paying full price. Recently they have done this in back to back months. This really should come with a discount or something as my membership is definitely less valuable whenever they have competitions. This is such a shame because it would easily be 5 stars without that. read more

I've been coming to this gym since opening day last month and honestly, it's one of the best climbing gyms I've been to so far. The routes are creative and methodical. Holds are nice and grippy (maybe TOO grippy sometimes). All the staff members are friendly and helpful. The gym opened up last month so everything is NEW. This was our second visit to Sender One in Lakewood, and we had another amazing experience! The first time, my 5-year-old and I tried top rope climbing, which we really enjoyed. This time, we made a reservation for Sender City, the dedicated kids' area--and it was absolutely fantastic! Sender City is designed to be both fun and safe, featuring multiple themed climbing walls. There's everything from Tetris blocks, a castle wall, and traditional rock climbing, to a rope climb, tire climb, and even a construction-themed wall where kids can jump from a platform to grab a suspended bar! Each activity was unique and engaging, making it an exciting challenge for kids of all skill levels. Safety is a top priority here. All kids wear full-body harnesses and helmets, and the system requires them to lock themselves in and out before climbing. Staff members are always available to help, and adults even have the option to climb alongside their kids and try out the equipment! The highlight of the session was definitely the giant slide. Kids wear jumpsuits (provided by the gym), take off their shoes, and hold onto a bar while a staff member lifts them as high as they want. Once they say "stop," they let go and slide down--it was a huge hit with my son! Each child gets two turns per session and can get back in line for another go. the slide was open for 20min of the 1 hour session and staff announced when the slide was open and closed. The one-hour time slot felt just right--enough time for kids to explore and enjoy everything without getting too tired. Overall, Sender City is an incredible experience, and we'll definitely be back! So this is the 3rd Sender One gym I have visited (I've been a member since the Santa Ana gym opened up), I am not a boulderer, so the boulder specific gyms are probably not going to get a visit. but I can rope it up here. If LAX is the big brother, mire overhang, bigger, taller, steeper..., Lakewood is the little sister to Santa Ana. It feels a little smaller, maybe because there are pillars, and the main overhanging feature is not as steep or as prominent as Santa Ana's, but the walls feel just as tall. I think that they are nicely evolving and learning as they open gyms. A first here are leadable cracks, albeit sport lead, but still leadable. The cracks also look to have a lot more variability over the length of the climb, with at least a couple pinching down as you get higher. The first clip on the walls are all quite a bit higher than Santa Ana, which makes sense (Santa Ana's are too low) but still safe. The bolts are better hardware for a gym (thicker and rounder), and the top clips are all uniform. There are slab (ish) leads here, not quite as sloped as the slabs at LAX, but those are not leadable. The gym is a nice addition to the Sender One family, and since one membership gets you into all of them, you can pop out to whatever is most convenient or make a longer drive from time to time for variety. I think that the setters are unique to Lakewood, so the route setting is different. It would be nice to have the setters swap back and forth a bit to get more variety in each gym, maybe have one guest from the other gym for each weekly set. read more

I go to the sna one usually, and tried out lakewood today! Parking -plenty of parking to the side of the gym Climbs -good amount of top rope and lead climbs (slightly less than sna) alot of bouldering (more than sna) Sauna -no sauna right now (although they expect to put it in early next year) Towels -no towels right now (they are still waiting for a washer and dryer, so towels should be available in the coming months) Showers -Showers are operational but individual showers in the women's room don't have a curtain or door. (not sure if that'll change) Air conditioning -there is air conditioning, although some parts of the gym can feel warmer than others. Fitness area (gym) -fitness area is small, and right by the front desk/entrance. Location -across the street from the Lakewood mall, easy to get to from either the 405 or 605 freeway -Cubbies Entrance has good sized cubbies, although around the gym the cubbies can only really fit shoes and a water bottle. Most people with larger bags just set them on the ground read more

I saw this place on tiktok and I'm so glad I gave it a try. It really seems like it's not gonna be too scary but man when you're up there on some of these obstacles, it is exhilarating. We did Sender City which is located inside the Sender One building. There are so many activities to do here my favorite being the slide where you just have to let go and it feels like you're falling off a 3 story building and my other favorite being the skyscraper walk which is crazy high up. Staff was friendly and this place just looks so cool and spacious. If you're looking for a unique date night, this is definitely the spot for you! read more

My daughters (9 and 7) enjoyed their time at Sender City(kid's area). The activities were perfect for them. Even though my 7 year old is a little timid, she still managed to have the courage to do many things. Chris managed the area real well and was helpful the whole hour. (We wish our time was longer...)This was our family's first time climbing and it was a blast. I want to thank Griffin for helping us at the front desk. So when they change this policy, I would think about not doing it at one star, but here's the thing owners are trying to do a money grab is that if you use the sender one part of this facility, you need to pay a double charge of another fee in order to use the rest of the gym. Business owner guess what it's one big gym just because you have one part for kids and another part for everybody it shouldn't be two separate charges Clearly pretty discriminatory. Obviously, they don't want kids or adults interacting at this place at all. So either it's just Straight greed or some other reason I can't think of a more family friendly policy. Hey business owner. The check-in process was smooth, employees were knowledgeable and very friendly. Great new space, super clean and well organized. Love that there are cubbies throughout the space for you to leave your stuff. They also have a small gym, yoga studio, showers, sauna, and family play room. I took the intro class with Carl and he was very sweet and helpful, he provided very good references to help ease remembering the steps as a climber and bellay.
