Planet Fitness is located in the old Kmart plaza, where their garden center used to be. It's been reworked though it still has big windows. There's a drink machine inside and a lot of equipment. Planet Fitness Torrington is overall a solid gym. It's clean, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is welcoming for people of all fitness levels. I appreciate that they keep the equipment in good shape and the facility is well-maintained. My only gripe is that the scale in the men's locker room isn't balanced properly -- which is kind of important when you're trying to track your progress accurately. I have a few things that I like to see at the Planet Fitness and this hit almost all of them. It was clean, there was no waiting for equipment in the Thirty Minute Circuit area, there are enough treadmills and such, I need sufficient hot water in the shower and really, I need a shelf in the shower for my stuff. This PF hit all of those and I had a pleasant workout this morning followed by a refreshing shower. This was a good stop and I'm glad I was here. I wanted to update this review. I since canceled my membership , and went to a neighboring gym club 24. That was the best thing I've done. Actually get real help and guidance from qualified individuals in a nice clean gym. If you're here wondering where to go to work out , just bite the bullet and avoid planet fitness. Always smells like stale sweat. Went in 2008 when it first opened, and now have been going again. Constantly broken machines. My membership is a black card which allows use at any location, so my "home gym" is Waterbury, despite living in Harwinton. That one is much nicer. Here, they don't have a scale and the bathroom is always filthy with at least one sink dirty. The showers are surprisingly unskeevy though. Some of the people who come are the typical loser Torrington crowd who go for the sake of going to make themselves socially elevated. The Torrington Planet Fitness recently got all new elliptical and treadmills. For a girl, that's amazing! haha. The staff here are super friendly and even remember you by name. The gym goers are all pretty nice and keep to themselves. A few people even helped me out at the machines because I'm a dumbo when it comes to lifting weights. The bathrooms and showers are clean. Tip: come here before 5, otherwise the gym will be PACKED. You have been warned. read more

Glorified adult playground. Although the new gym is quite beautiful and up to date, the staff struggles to keep members. For one thing they really don't know how to train people-staff or members so don't bother signing up for a personal trainer. They make it impossible to cancel a membership. I cancelled mine back in February 18- the kid at the counter said ok but here's a complementary 3 months, which who wouldn't take? I asked if I had to come back or if the membership was cancelled and he said "no you're all set, I cancelled it and you can come in until may for free!" Okay cool- except I've been charged SINCE MAY for a membership I was told was cancelled. This location is 40 minutes out of my way, so i tried to call and cancel and they wouldn't let me bc it wasn't "extenuating circumstances". So I went in today, October ($100+ later) to cancel an already "cancelled" membership. And they still refused to give me my money bc the kid had put their correct verbiage in the computer stating that I apparently had to come back in order to cancel, which again was never told to me. They're complete thieves and all the equipment is assisted weights. Don't waste your money here. (I have already spoken to the management here and they are not willing to fix anything. They simply restated the above and will not give me any of my money back, even though I was omitted their policy on complimentary months and was lied to by their staff). read more

Do not get membership from this establishment. Their cancellation process is the most difficult process than any high end business entities. They do not accept cancellation of membership over the phone, instead they require letter to be sent. Then deny receiving the letter, asking for certified letter etc. All these to extend and get more membership dues from its members. It took 8 months and threat to call BBB to cancel mine . They refused to give me refund for the 8 months I have not used their facility. read more

Love, love this place been a member here for about 4 months, I do the weights with my husband he pushes me. Then we bicycle for a good hour, treadmill till I'm tired. We're black card members so when he is done pushing me we go into the massage chairs. They also have tanning booths and showers here, I love how no one is judgemental and people encourage one another. Awesome read more

The Torrington location seems to be relatively new. It's a very simple gym, thus the cheap monthly membership. All they provide as service is a place for you to use the workout machines, so no classes, no extra perks, no other amenities. They do however have a drinks fridge, a tanning area and a massage place. I find it odd how they have a monthly event on free bagels and pizza? Kind of defeats the purpose of going to the gym doesn't it? Overall, I like how the gym has all kinds of people in there and everyone is there for just one reason - be healthy. The staff is friendly and make sure you are very welcomed in there. And all I need is a place to use the equipments, I don't really have time to take classes and such so why pay extra for things you don't need? However if the gym is more than just a place for you to use the equipments then this might not be a place for you. read more

I am a return customer to Planet Fitness. The gym is fine for what to does for body toning but, I have just one complaint and it has not been corrected for weeks. The management there gives me promises but nothing ever happens. My complain seems trivial in the overall operation of this gym. Its new, clean, and always friendly.. when I am on the recumbent bikes, there is tv stations we can see and listen to while exercising. It usually works well. But imagine if there is one station that dosen't come in clear. It kind of takes the edge off of the whole exercise experience. I complained the first time knowing it will be taken care of right away. IT HASEN'T BEEN FIXED. I've complained every time I'm there.. So for the second month of using the bikes with no luck in the stations I want to see, I'm at a crossroad. Do I cancel my membership and find another gym just because of one stupid complaint? Worst experience of my life at a gym, EVER! I have been trying to cancel for 6 months, each month I call I am told it is too late & I have to wait until between the 1st & the 7th to come in to cancel and it has to be in person. I sucked up the monthly charges because they refused to refund my monthly fee, stating I had to come in between the 2st & 7th. I told the person who answers the phone that I will be in personally. I am then charged the Annual fee the exact same day that I am told to come in person, even after I asked to cancel several times. They have been giving me the run around for months. I was told this was well documented but that their people should have advised me better. They will not refund my Annual fee, I was supposed to have just kept my membership that I can no longer afford due to Covid closings & basically I am under contract so they cant refund me. The actual manager was on site, but she refused to speak to me. The Assistant Manager told me I was already off contract and it's in my contract that the Annual fee cant be refunded. If I'm off contract like she said, why does the contract dictate that I still need to pay an Annual fee. Mind you I was charged on the 2nd of the month & went in to see them the same day but was told I had to speak with the manager when she was in (today). I will never, ever go back there. They are liars who hide the truth to collect more & more fees from people who just cant afford it due to losing their job from Covid-19. They are not to be trusted & the manager pushes off her duties by not speaking to customers that they screw over. Worst gym experience ever! Beware of their shady business practices. I gave this one star because I had to give something but trust me, they deserve a negative star rating. read more

The Planet Fitness in Torrington really needs to step up the game. The locker rooms are always nasty. I don't even shower there because they're gross and I also get skeeved out when I have to use the bathroom! There is also a woefully inadequate amount of equipment, mainly weight plates (among other things). But lets discuss the weight plates: There are four or five smith machines and a sled that the plates are shared between. Almost every time that I am there I have to hunt down weight plates and then once I have found what I need I have to guard them with my life from other members who are in need of the same plates. I have been to the Planet Fitness in Providence RI and they had a plethora of plates AND they had racks disbursed throughout the gym where they were stored!! I also don't think it would kill them to get rid of some of the cardio equipment and add some more lifting equipment like say Olympic bars, a few more benches (there are never enough benches available) I've been to other Planet Fitness locations that have had this type of equipment and was delighted to see it. I get the premise of the gym: No Intimidation but how are Olympic bars, more benches and weight plates promoting "intimidation"? I don't think it is. In fact it seems that by limiting the equipment that the gym is promoting laziness and complacency by not encouraging people to lift weight. Lifting weights isn't bad and it's not going to make you turn into a body builder (I also highly doubt that any body builder would step foot in Planet Fitness regardless if they have more plates, a squat rack, and Olympic bars. They just wouldn't). Lifting weights is going to make a person strong, support their bones, and help with weight loss. Also they really, really, REALLY need to get new tanning beds. You could use the beds for a week and still be pale. It's sad when people who live in Torrington will drive to other Planet Fitness locations in Connecticut because they are disappointed with the cleanliness and lack of equipment at this location (just recently I heard someone sing the praises of the Waterbury location stating that it is loads better than Torrington). It makes me think that the owner of this particular location doesn't really care. Planet Fitness Torrington has the potential to be a great gym but in a sense the "Judgement Free Zone" is judging those who aren't the "Average Joe" (who they seem to cater to) and who also aren't body builders but merely fall some where in between. read more

Don't Go Here! Seriously....the only advantage here is that it is cheap....other than that there is no reason why you would go. The place always smells like nasty stale sweat...there is no air circulation...the machines are constantly breaking down. The bike I liked to ride was the only one that worked consistently and even then it had a broken seat most of the time. The one cable tower that they have was constantly breaking down and some idiot stole the handles so for a while (nearly a month before I decided to stop going) we had to use a chain in one hand and a back row handle for the other. I've been to 4 other planet fitness locations in NY, MA and CT and they are all great facilities that I would he happy to belong to but the Torrington location is by far the worst gym I've ever been to (Did I say that already?) Never mind that you are always fighting for the free weights and the couple of benches that they have are always taken. One time I even was shoved by a guy as I sat down at a bench because "he was already there"...(actually he was talking on his cell just walking around). I wouldn't do anything in that locker room except use the bathroom and even then I was hesitant t take off my gloves. Even cancelling my membership was difficult. Save yourself the hassle...you will have a much better experience anywhere else....I guess the old adage "you get what you pay for" is true. read more

If I could give this health club a D minus or an F, I would. Advantages: IT IS CHEAP. Disadvantages: Poorly functioning equipment: Many machines are poorly maintained and malfunction for months at a time. One bike wobbled for about 2 years. Another only registered 20 minutes of a work out. Several treadmill computers did not work to record weight. Horrendous customer service at all levels including management in store and at the corporate level: Management was not receptive to fixing equipment as above. The local level management summarily presented a new policy out of the clear blue: that taking picture ID's was required of all customers. In this day of maintaining privacy and insuring transparency, they should have provided the customer with advanced notice that they were changing policy. Their handling of customer dissatisfaction was horrifying both at the local level and the corporate level. I wouldn't recommend this place to work-out. There are far far better places around with a much nicer environment and a much more qualified professional staff. read more

The new gym is awesome. The investment they made incredible. They now have close to 100 cardio equipment great lifting areas. Additionally they have a spa area with hydrotherapy really nice. This is where I work out- I'm not sure why you wouldn't work out at a Planet Fitness. This one, in Torrington, is clean, the staff is polite, the equipment is always in working order, and is spacious enough to not feel particularly crowded even on a busy day. There are always people available to assist with the operation of a fitness machine if you have questions, and those of us who are fancy black card members can make use of clean and well maintained stand-up tanning booths. I really have no complaints about this chain and enjoy this particular location more than the Naugatuck, CT location where I also work out. read more

Awful!!!!! I was a member for months and could never get a time to meet with the trainer because they didn't have one. I was told that was free with my membership, but apparently they're not required to provide it? I canceled my membership because I was moving and pregnant and my doctor recommended not using the gym. Months later, I'm getting bills and calls from them trying to collect money! They never actually canceled my account! I called in and the manager couldn't have been more rude! She refuses to do anything to help with this issue. All I can do is send them more money. This place is awful and ridiculous. Please, use your money to go somewhere that cares about their members! Wow ,I can't believe I have been single out today at planet fitness on main st Torrington CT by the General manager Diane . she toll me I put the weight on the smith machine down too loud ,not the dumbbell ,it's a self control ,and steady machine all I have to do is to unlock the bar do my set then lock it back down the buzzer didn't go off no body complaint about me making noise or anything .I'm only pushing 230, to 240 pound ,I weight about 240 pound .so when I heard other people binging their weight, I went to her ,and asked her why is she not going to those other people tell them their making too much noise to take easy ?why was I single out ? "she said she was doing her job " ,really !wow ,doing her job ,by singling me out when I'm being disturb by a bunch of binging ,slamming , weight she don't tell them anything .shame on you planet fitness ,I guess your rules only apply to certain people ,it's becoming more visible dear Planet Fitness what you guys about ,other than what you advertised . read more

I went in today and was asked to stand in front of a computer camera for a photo ID. I asked if this is a requirement and in a vague manner he said "Yes". I said, "Does that mean I'm can't come in to the gym if I refuse?" He said, "Yes". I started to walk out in disgust and all he said was, "So do you want to cancel your membership?" This to me translates into a disregard for the customer's privacy and poor service. I guess the motto is sometimes true that you get what you pay for. It's unfortunate, because some cannot afford pricier gyms. Other than this, I was never happy with this gym. There's poor ventilation, machines go unrepaired for long periods of time, and there is a fair share of questionable characters. Another final annoyance is the guarantee of "gym rats" and "meat heads" that seem to live there; often occupying certain stations for long periods of time, playing on their cell phones, or socializing/loitering near stations. read more
