I've had good experiences at this dealership. Aside from it being difficult to get an appointment as they are always busy, this is actually a great Subaru. They don't have the quick service (or I've never seen it offered), but service tends to be fast and efficient. There are different areas to sit while you wait, including in front of a mantle/fireplace. You can wander around, look at the cars parked in the showroom, and go over and make yourself a nice cup while you wait. If the waiting carries on too long, they have dogs in the showroom. Everything is better (including a long wait) with doggos present. read more

Derek was superb. It was the best auto purchasing experience we've encountered, ever. Even though we had done extensive research, Derek carefully explained additional differences between the three models we were considering. There was never pressure, nor did we have to suffer through any of the typical chill sessions where the associate disappears to "confer" with the manager for 15 minutes. I don't normally write reviews, but this place deserves one. Their "buying partners" or sales people are top notch. Both my parents and I bought new cars today. I would highly recommend doing business with Planet. We did business with Scott as our buying partner and Scott the finance manager. Both Scott's were not pushy, were honest and straight forward. At no time did I feel overly pressured to buy, which is big for me, as I have dealt with other awful dealers who have been rude and have tried sales tactics on myself and my family. I was also pleasantly surprised that they had honored the "internet price" on the WRX that I bought. In the past I have found that most dealers have this tiny fine print that adds thousands to the price of the car-NOT AT PLANET! I was impressed that they did not low ball my parents on their Forester. Planet gave them KBB fair trade in value. Lastly, the dogs were awesome! I'd come by just to pet the dogs! Dale, the owner of this dealership is attempting to discredit my bad review by claiming I have never been to his dealership. But that's not true. Instead of taking responsibility for his staff or apologizing for my horrible experience, he's trying to redirect blame to distract from the truth. Notice he never addresses my complaints, instead he just criticizes my review? That's a pretty bad business owner! He just makes himself look like a jerk. My original review was from 2019 and he's only responding to this now??? I actually did buy my Subaru from Planet. My salesperson was David G. He was very good to me, but the service department are criminals. Matthew R was the service manager at the time, and Nicky M was the service writer. Nicky will smile and lie to your face ( others on yelp have complained about her ), and Matthew was very creative with the BS as well. The dealership is across from a Dairy Queen. When you go in the front doors, the salespeople are to the left against the windows, the service department desk is to the right, and straight ahead there is a hallway that leads to the service waiting area. There are vending machines to the left going down this hallway, and there is a small room off the main waiting area for people to have a quiet space for computers. There is a dog named "blue" that wanders around the dealership. So you see, I've been there many times and Dale is just trying to grasp at straws to duck from this bad bad review! The estimate they gave me was over $4,500 for bogus repairs, which was exactly what the car was worth on trade in at the time. Coincidence? No! They wanted me to give up and trade it in for nothing. But I did'nt fall for it. I took my subaru to two other ASE certified independent mechanics and gave them the estimate from Planet. The actual needed repairs were under $500.00! Try to explain that Planet Subaru! Don't point fingers back at me, you OWN THIS! There's plenty of other negative reviews on here about the service department at this dealership ripping people off with unnecessary repairs. Perhaps Dale should actually focus on the issues at his dealership rather than criticizing reviews! read more

The service people are friendly, straightforward and helpful. They tell it as it is and try to avoid surprises. When they say it is going to take a certain amount of time, it is often quicker than that and rarely longer than the estimated time. When they can be, they are clear about the estimated cost for the service. And they stand behind their work. We moved out of the area (an hour+ away) but I try and return to Planet Subaru for most services even though it is not as convenient. We really enjoyed our experience at Planet Subaru and ended up buying a 2017 Impreza. I initially got in touch via Cars.com and immediately received an email from Deb and Lisa to tell me that the car was still available and to reach out if I had questions. I was excited to learn that Planet Subaru was so unique compared to other dealerships. About a week later, my wife and I went it. I was a little surprised that when I said I'd been emailing with Lisa, that she wasn't the person who I dealt with. However, we had a good experience with Fred and took the car for a test drive. He pulled up a few other options that might work for us, but we ultimately went with the car I found online. Scott helped us out with finances and made sure we were good to go. We ended up having to wait 5 days to pick up the car because of a minor cosmetic part being damaged, and unfortunately the registration didn't come in time for the car to get inspected. I was given a check to pay for the inspection, but it would have been nice to not have to do it myself. All in all, a good experience! And it helped that there were dogs wandering around the dealership :) read more

I recently upgraded my Subaru Legacy and the process from the beginning to the very end was amazingly smooth, pleasant and transparent. My search started online, where I was contacted by Deb to help with my search. Deb listened to what I was looking for in my next car and provided options. I met her in person a few days later to test drive and buy and she was truly hospitable and professional. I worked directly with Fred DiFronzo and he was an absolute joy to work with. There was never any pressure, answered all of my questions, and even though it was very busy for that Saturday, when he was working with me or other customers, we had his undivided attention. When looking for your next car, I would recommend asking for Fred to help with the process. Also a shutout to Dave in their Business Financing. Extremely friendly and clearly an expert in what he does as he is clear and thorough when it comes to financing your car, he was great as well! Did some on line research about Subaru, then researched Subaru dealerships close to home. One sounded great, but found in researching, the dealership uses a shell game of prices based on trade-ins and mileage on the trade-ins. I then read Planet Subaru reviews on 3 other sites. Their own web site also intrigued me, as they promise a buying experience I've never experienced in my decades purchasing cars. I went further and found a site that even reviewed sales staff at different dealerships. So I made an appointment with Dave Gardner at Planet Subaru and had my extensive list of what I wanted and didn't want in my search for a Pre-owned Cert. Forester Limited in my hand. Dave really listened, didn't interrupt, took notes, then asked a couple of questions. Off he went, returning with the specs of 3 possible matches and clearly explained all the details. All were good matches, but one in particular checked all of the boxes on my lengthy list. Since Planet Subaru also buys used cars outright, as well as buying trade-ins, I had the unusual situation of having 2 cars to offer to Planet to be able to purchase the Forester. No problem. Dave took the information and did a visual of both cars. The whole process was so civilized! No multiple trips to the manager with mindless waiting. No magical numbers bouncing around papers. I knew what I needed for the cars to purchase the Forester. I stated what I wanted. Dave soon came back with a number . I stated what would make the deal and then it was done. No pressure, very professional, knowledgeable and personable . It was the first time I've ever enjoyed purchasing a car !!! read more

We were new to the area, and new to needing a car, let alone two vehicles. (Coming from many years in NYC & overseas) I was honestly dreading the car buying process. Amidst the pandemic, moving to a new city, and starting a new job, I had ZERO patience for anyone who was going waste a minute of my time. But I kept an eye on a few vehicles via some car apps, and then contacted several dealerships. One or two did the old bait and switch where I promptly walked right off the lot. (A great move if you ask me.. ;) However, Ryan with Planet was very prompt in replying to my emails. There was no game to get me in the dealership. He was professional and answered all of my questions very matter of factly. I think I traded more than 30 emails with him, and he always replied within a very short timeframe. He even steered me away from some cars, pointing out less expensive models that were better deals - and carefully highlighting ones that had 'lemon' issues. In the end, we purchased two Subarus from Planet. Ryan, Klaire and James were all excellent. James ran through the warranty information, but again pointed out what I should consider, and the policies I didn't need. No pressure and very low key. After purchasing one of the vehicles, there was an issue with one of the keys, and a programming glitch. Again, Ryan was quick to deal with the matter, arranging someone to pick up the vehicle from my home or office right away. They gave me a beautiful loaner, and had my car back after the weekend. And to top it off, when I foolishly left my eyeglasses in the loaner car, they quickly tracked them down and sent them next day UPS. Overall, while I was initially cringing at the idea of having to buy a car, this ended up being an excellent experience. 10/10. Thanks Planet Subaru! read more

Avoid this dealership and service department like the plague!! I bought this heap of a Forrester last year from them and the engine block required replacement, causing a major disruption to my schedule over time. With minor issues here and there since, now they've informed me the screw on the oil pan is stripped and I have to pay for the replacement oil pan AND labor!! Do not waste your time here as I unfortunately have. UPDATE: Now for the past three weeks noises of clanging metal happen under the hood every day since September this year. I'll be looking elsewhere for these ADDITIONAL repairs to this lemon of a vehicle. read more

I currently have a lease through Quirk Subaru (Braintree) that's coming to an end. I had a terrible experience with Quirk in a high pressure very "car salesman-y" way so I went to Planet because I've heard better things about how they handle sales & service. Unfortunately we didn't get far. We were turned away when we walked in a full 30 minutes before closing time. We were told there was no time for a test drive. The "purchase partner" that greeted us wouldn't even unlock the Outback inside on the show floor to quickly show us what it was like. He said there was no time to "properly sell us a vehicle" so we'd have to come back. We've had limited time to be able to get into a dealership and had finally squeezed in a chance to quickly go try out a new Outback to see if I should stick with Subaru when my lease ended. Planet closed 1 hour before Quirk, which we didn't realize until heading there. Wish someone could have used the 30 mins before the advertised closing time to give us some helpful info about the car. So, left with a bad taste in our mouth, we are definitely taking our business elsewhere and with two bad experiences with Subaru, seriously considering getting away from this brand. read more

His MSRP was thousands higher than another dealership. When asked why, he shared that due to micro chip shortage there isn't enough inventory so they are charging $3,000.00 more (price gouging) because they can. We bought our used Subaru Outback from Planet Subaru with ~7,000 miles and had a good experience but I just had the car serviced there for the 30,000 service and was really disappointed. I'd recommend buying from there but having your vehicle serviced elsewhere. For starters, it's expensive at $680 for a service. That is ok, given it's a dealer, so long as they do a good job. But here's the thing, they missed a lot of stuff. Our left fog light bulb is out and wasn't replaced. There's an odd rhythmic thumping coming from our wheel that wasn't caught during the service (I think it's a balancing issue). And finally, they advertise a courtesy exterior wash and interior vacuum and we received neither. All said, it's just disappointing. You'd expect exceptional work for the high price at the dealer and this place just didn't deliver. The customer service staff are very polite so I'll give them that but yeah look elsewhere for service. read more

We had a great experience here when we bought our Outback in March 2017. We were kind of under the gun to get a car when our last one had been totaled and our insurance would only cover 30 days of a rental car in the interim. We came down from the Boston area to check out the Subarus because we were looking for a car with all-wheel drive for the winters here, and kept hearing that Subaru was the way to go. I so wish I could remember the name of the guy who helped us. He was incredibly patient as we test-drove a number of cars, sometimes going back and forth between them, and we came down on multiple days. Their prices were firm, but they were fair (and generally better) than what we could find online for similar cars with similar specs. We were able to negotiate on some other aspects of the sale. We would come back here for sure if we were ever looking to purchase another Subaru. And of course, it doesn't hurt that there are adorable dogs hanging out in their showroom. My husband & I were in no rush to buy a car, so we spent time researching vehicles. We came up with something with good gas mileage with all wheel drive in the Impreza. After having 2 Subarus, we did not need much "selling" of the brand. We drove well over 2 hours to Planet Subaru and are so glad we did!! They priced the vehicle well and gave us exactly what we hoped for with the trade in. No haggling and wasting time. With little fuss, we drove off with our great new vehicle in no time. We were very prepared which did help, but they were willing to work quickly to make it happen, recognizing we drove quite distance. Based on the way they advertise, I thought planet Subaru was all about being "honest and transparent" with their customers and couldn't have been more wrong. Bought a used car there for FULL TICKET PRICE with the promise to fix all cosmetic damage. My husband and I had to beg them to uphold that promise and they barely buffed out a scratch, leaving all the other dings, scratches and a cracked windshield. The worst part is I dropped off the car with a full tank and got it back on empty complete with a half drunk soda bottle and gum wrappers (not mine). Are you kidding me? I feel so taken advantage of. We went here because of the great ratings and because they were known as the undealership. We were very pleased with the great atmosphere, the assistance that we received and especially our sales person Rhonda. She was very knowledgeable, I'm low-key and very helpful. We never got the sense that there was any urgency for us to buy, close a deal or do something in in a hurry. In the past when we've gone to dealerships they always told us there was some special on and rushed us to make a decision. Complete lack of customer service in their "service" department summarizes my experience. I wish I had read reviews before using Planet Subaru's service department. Yes, I should have known that a dealership's service department is where they make all of their money, but charging DOUBLE the rates of local shops and HUNDREDS of dollars more for service is unacceptable. In this economy, no business can afford to take their customers for granted, but Planet Subaru doesn't seem to care that their customers are walking away. We will never use them again for our Subaru. After driving 30 miles to get to the dealership for routine brake replacement, the service advisor outlined what would need to be done and approximate costs. When I left after a few hours, I was charged for 5 hours of labor. I disputed the charge and she said that they doubled up on the mechanics to get it done quicker. After doing my research, the brake replacement should have only taken a little over an hour (so let's say 3 altogether for front & back, including rotors). Still an overcharge of 2 hours labor. When the service department called me last week and asked to schedule maintenance, I told the advisor that we would never use their service department again, she said "okay" and went to hang up. I said, "Wouldn't you like to know why?" I explained the situation and her extremely condescending response was "So you'd rather have waited here for 5 hours?" At that point, I asked to speak to a manager. He was not available and she told me he would call me back. A week went by and no call from Brett Quinn, the service manager. I called again and explained the situation. Again, very condescending towards me. When I ended the call, realizing that Planet Subaru cares less about their customers than the Almighty Dollar (and their union employees), I felt completed manipulated by Brett and his twisting of the situation. Slimy just about summarizes my experience. Check out reviews for Aris Auto and Fellsway Auto in Somerville, MA. That's where the genuine, hardworking, honest mechanics are. I purchased my 2012 Subaru Legacy from Planet Subaru in February 2014. The buying experience was great, the sales people were very knowledgeable and not pushy. Needless to say, I was very upset when I took my car in for a routine tire balancing and found out that a tire and wheel would need to be replaced. I emailed the service manager from Planet Subaru to see if anything would be covered with my extended warranty. He went out of his way to look up my warranty, look up the parts that I needed and schedule my appointment. I was very excited to think that the repair would be that easy. Unfortunately, it was not. The service sheet stated that my right tire and rim were replaced but I can see that it's the left tire and rim that we're replaced. My car is still vibrating on the highway and I need to get it repaired AGAIN. I'm frustrated because I took time off from work to drive to planet Subaru from Arlington and got my repairs before a weekend trip. Now I have to go back to get it fixed again and I don't even trust them to fix it properly!! My boyfriend has had similar issues with the service dept at Planet; the staff is very nice but the service is AWFUL. If you want to buy a Subaru, go to Planet. The sales team is great. If you need to get your car serviced, go somewhere else. You can't trust that Planet's service team will fix it right! read more

I have a 2004 Legacy I have owned since 2007. I purchased it at Quirk in Braintree and had been bringing it to them for service ever since. Last year, I moved to Abington - and had been considering using a new/closer service location. When my car had a problem last Thursday, I decided to try Planet Subaru for the first time. My car needed a single CV joint boot replacement. This is a $50 dealer cost part. I brought the car in on Friday afternoon. On Saturday morning, the girl from service called me and told me it would be $350. I find this price for a single boot replacement to be outrageous, and primarily for the reason of labor costs. The service department charged me for 3hrs of labor for this job. I have a close friend who is a manager of a local Firestone. He told me that his Mitchell Manual states the average time for this repair is 1.4hrs. The Mitchell Manual is basically a universal standard for estimating/billing repair labor. The 3hrs I was billed by Planet Subaru was over TWICE this estimate. I also worked for Firestone years ago, and have done similar jobs like this myself. I simply dont have the time or place to do them myself anymore. This job should NOT take 3 hours to do. Because labor is purely subjective and difficult to argue, I believe that I had been severely ripped off. This job requires only the removal of the wheel, axle bolt, and a couple of pins, plus cleaning and repacking of the joint. As further testament to their extreme prices, their service department also quoted me $150 to clean and re-seal ONE tire. For $450 I could purchase 4 new quality tires from Firestone. After haggling with the manager, I was given a 10% discount (which was about $30). Nice, yes. But that equates to less than 20mins of labor cost. Still way, way too much in my eyes. After this experience, I truly am sorry to say that I will not be bringing my car back. I am sorry because the facility is close by, the service techs were very polite and professional. But for essentially double the costs of other reputable repair shops, I simply can't return. My vehicle has 106,000 miles and will almost surely be needing repairs in the future. The bottom line is SHOP AROUND and get labor cost estimates FIRST. Yes, folks there is a 'labor times' standard out there - and in this case my service tech likely could have taken his lunch break and still been done in less than 2.5hrs. At $100/hr you'd be best to find out before you are billed something you can't argue. read more

We needed to replace a vehicle, and we started our exploration at Planet Subaru. Rhonda was very helpful with getting us test drives of a couple of different vehicles, and understanding our needs. She was also very responsive to contacting us. We ended up buying from another dealer, but that had more to do with timing (TDI horror show, say no more!) and availability of a particular used model than the quality of our experience here. I would definitely refer people here - a relative who works for another Subaru dealership and is rather particular also had a positive opinion of the place. I can see why. read more

This place is a nightmare. They refused to negotiate , gave us a hard time for paying cash in full and then nagged us to death about getting a low jack (it's not a Bentley!). Then they start in about purchasing an extended warranty because of the head gasket issues that Subaru is apparently having. Also the suspension apparently goes and labor is $125 an hour. Seriously?! Is he trying to sell us a Subaru or send us running. Absolute nightmare. read more

Stood at the desk waiting for help while 3 sales guys stood around talking to each other while another sat at his desk watching something on his phone (he looked up at us and saw us there but went right back to his phone). Told them due to the chip shortage that I wanted $1,000 over Blue book value for my used car. What's fair is fair right? Didn't bother to respond. Just picked up a new Subaru from these folks today. I have to say it was a really nice experience. The salesman, Bob Choate, was excellent. He tracked and answered all my questions from the first day I called without ever calling and asking if I was ready to buy a car today or any sort of pressure. I really appreciated that. Too often car sales types are all over you to do something now, even when you tell them you are just checking things out. Not here. It was an easy experience. I wasn't talked down to, just helped thru the process. As far as pricing and deal-making, things were also quite simple and low key. There are certain cars where there's room to get a bit of a discount and others where there isn't. No pressure or tactics - just a straight answer. On the day we came down to finally find 'the right car' and pull the trigger we got there late and Bob stayed past closing with us to get things wrapped up. The business manager was also very good. No trying to talk us into this or that add-on. If you are in the market for a Subaru I'd recommend them without any qualms. Wish all major purchases worked this well... read more

All of the stuff about them being an "undealership" is true. We had a great experience with these folks, very up front and honest about everything. We were told up front: "no, we don't have any of the vehicles you're looking for" (nobody does, really.) "but we have a lot of quality vehicles here, why don't you come take a look?" We did. Mike, our salesman, was very up front about everything - "yes, we can work with the price a little on that" or "no, there's nothing we can do on that one", etc. He let us test-drive several cars, even let us take one when we needed to go to lunch to talk over our choice! We got a great trade-in for the rather elderly Civic we were getting rid of. When we finally pulled the trigger on a great car at a really good price, everything was smooth, and we were seamlessly handed off to the business manager, who was friendly and personable, even though it was after closing. He got a rate that was almost a full percentage point lower than the one we had when we walked in. We're picking up the new car on Monday. I purchased a brand new Subaru vehicle at this dealership in 2016 even though this particular dealership is an hour away from me. I was lured in by their wide selection of vehicles, lower advertised prices, and most of all by the Planet Passport program where they provide free tires and batteries for life. Although I love my Subaru and am so glad that I purchased a Subaru over any other vehicle, I'm dissatisfied with this dealership. First, while they do have a lot of used Subarus, in the end it didn't make a difference for me because I purchased a brand new car to get the features I needed. Second, I found their advertised price just the same or more as any other dealership after negotiating with other locations; however, I still chose to buy my car here because of the Passport program. I found this dealership very misleading during the finalization of purchasing my car where they attempted to pressure me into buying add-ons ranging from $500-$2000 even though I told them I was on a budget. The only add-on I purchased was a coating to protect the paint on my car as Subaru paint is water-based (better for the environment than oil-based) and the only reason I purchased this option was because a friend of mine had purchased a Subaru and was told me about it; presented with this during the finalization of the sale of my car by the dealer I never would have bought it. I wish these options had been presented earlier when I was figuring out exactly how much I could spend rather than pressuring me at the end, trying to tack on thousands more. Finally, the Passport program. Ha! When I called at the 6 month mark to schedule the required maintenance to be part of the program, I was told to balance tires, change the oil, and other things that are done during state inspection for a sticker it would be $160!!! I then told the dealership that no one ever told me how much these maintenance visits would cost. To participate in the program, 6 months appointments are required to get the free tires and battery. I asked how much the following appointments would be. I was told: 12 months=$160 18 months=$330 24 months=$160 30 months=$330 36 months=$330 42 months=$330 48 months=$160 And so on. This was in 2016 so the prices may be more now. Needless to say I couldn't afford to be part of this program. I will stick with $70 oil change from my mechanic and pay for tires when I need them which is a much better deal! I'm very disappointed in Planet Subuaru for being misleading, almost worse than any other dealership because they come with the pretense that they are honest when they are not. read more
