The worst place to buy a car. Bought a used car and in one week engine light came on. Dealer inspected car themselves which makes me think they cleared the engine light. Ended up being the thermostat!! They did not want to fix it unless I pay $100, I never got a copy nor did I sign a limited warranty form which informs you about the lemon law and deductible. If one doesn't sign that you're not liable to pay the deductible. They still insisted on not fixing it unless I went half on the cost. In the end they fixed the problem and told me not to ever bring the car back to them..I'm still under my 30 day warranty with no copy of a limited warranty noticed from dealer. Would not recommend this place. Poor professionalism and management. Three thumbs down. read more

I had a great experience working with Jeff Johnson at Coastal Auto Center. I was in the market for a used 2003-2005 Passat wagon and found exactly what I was looking for with these guys. Prior to contacting Coastal, I had visited a handful of other dealers to check out the cars they had listed. None were even close to the condition advertised. I contacted Coastal to inquire about a 2005 Passat GLS wagon and was informed that it was in great condition and told to stop by any time to check it out. I scheduled a time to stop in, meet Jeff and check out the car. Immediately I saw the car was in better condition than those I'd looked at previously. After a couple of minutes walking around the car with me and answering my questions, Jeff handed me the keys and told me to take as long as I needed. I took it out for a test ride and found it to be in almost new condition inside and out. It ran and handled flawlessly and looked just as good. To purchase the Passat, I needed to sell my car. I was able to strike a deal with Jeff and the business owner on the purchase price of my car. We also struck a deal on the Passat and financed with a competitive rate. The entire process was no hassle, no pressure negotiating. Jeff strikes me as an honest to goodness car enthusiast as we were able to talk shop about our car histories while going through the process of negotiating the sale and purchase of each car. Based on the condition of the Passat and the other cars on their lot, they put time, effort and money into reconditioning each of their cars. I know I probably sound like a paid speaker for these guys, but my experience really was that good. Next time I'm in the market for a car, I will give Jeff a call. read more

I bought a used vehicle here recently and had 2 different experiences. While making the purchase, they stayed later than closing and accommodated me past their posted hours. After purchasing, there have been a couple of issues that didn't sit right and kind of annoyed me, it seems after the deal is signed, you're not really a priority anymore. First, it should be common courtesy for a dealer to put more than 1/3 of a tank of gas in the car upon delivery, especially when the dealership is next to a gas station. Second, I had bought the car in Cohasset, had to go to Hanover to complete financing, back to Cohasset to pick up the car. A week later when my registration arrived (they didn't notify me that it came in, I had to call them a couple of times), I had to pick it up in Cohasset, low and behold their inspection sticker machine was down so I had to go to Norwell to get that done. Once I got my vehicle home, I had noticed that the sunroof did not open, I had brought this to the attention of my salesman and he told me to have the Norwell location look at it, which I did and they indicated that they did not have to correct computer to sync to my car's computer, understood as I did not purchase a Nissan. I called Coastal about an hour after I had talked to my salesman originally to let him know this and to ask him my next steps, he really didn't even remember the original conversation that we had about an hour earlier. He indicated that I should contact the service manager that Monday to discuss it. I called the service manager and the first thing she asked (quite rudely), "Did you purchase a warranty because this could get expensive?". I had indicated that I had not and that since I only had the vehicle a week and that this was like this from delivery that it should be looked at and fixed at no cost to me. I got the opportunity to bring the car back in for them to take a look at it. They indicated that since I did not purchase a warranty that they would be of no help to me. Their suggestion was to purchase a vehicle warranty from AAA and then file a warranty claim thereafter to get it fixed. A warranty from AAA could cost thousands of dollars, additionally I find it very dishonest to purchase a vehicle warranty from a business just to get them to complete this work. Their confidence in this plan made it seem like they've pulled this stunt before. It is a shame because I've worked with their Norwell location for servicing another vehicle I own and have had great experiences, I will not be recommending Coastal to anybody and will not give them the satisfaction of servicing my vehicle. read more

I bought a '06 Honda pilot at coastal march 14th. As of today, April 20th, I am on my 3rd trip back to dealership to pick up my car. I've driven if for only 14 days out of the month that I've owned it. The brakes were faulty right away. Around day 5 I brought it back. They said the brakes were fine. I disagreed but. Could do nothing because they refused to fix them. Five days later the car overheated. the radiator went. Thankfully they fixed that. Charged me a 100 dollar deductible but I sucked it up. Got it back A WEEK later. Upon picking it up, there was this Aweful noise in front of car that didnt seem right and was NOT there when i dropped it off. Didn't seem right. rather than waste my time again with coastal, I brought the Pilot to a mechanic and paid $120 to have him look over the whole car. Not only did he tell me I needed new rear rotors, the noise in front was a faulty sway bar and sway bar links that looked new but whover put it in used cheap and faulty parts. Brought truck back to Coastal with invoice and written estimate from mechanic to have Coastal fix the problems. Guess what. They refused again. Said would fix rotors at cost. Well the lemon law says they have to fix it at no cost. In out $370 for a truck I haven't even filled the tank three times on yet. Coastal not only took their time keeping my truck without oaying fir a rental, they were nonresponsive, inconsiderate, and felt the need to never return a call. I am taking them to small claims for my money back and am seriously considering hiring a lawyer. Also under the lemon law, they can buy car back at full price the consumer paid. Surprise-- they won't. Said I would have to trade it in and I'd (AND I QUOTE) " lose my shirt". My question is this: how is that so when I JUST bought it and have t even driven it ??!! Also, does that Insinuate that I got COMPLETELY ripped off to begin with???!! The mechanic mentioned when I told him where I bought the car from that they have a BAD reputation and he's had to fix a lot of cars bought at Coastal. My advice for the car buyer ----- stay away. Worst car dealer to deal with. Right after I purchased the car I noticed front breaks was really bad and pulsating. I went back there for them to fix it but they stated they put new brake pads and rotors and they are at state minimum so they can't fix it. Which I took my car two different mechanics and they both told me these breaks are not new or serviced. If u wanna buy a car please seek somewhere else. read more

Great buying experience Lance and Mike do not use the salesman 's script. Price was fair and trade in was a little higher than I expected. A small nuisance was having to shuttle between Norwell and Cohasset to complete the sale, but in Norwell, Nick was probably the best F&I guy I ever dealt with. Over the years, there have been more than one time that I walked away from a sale because of F&I personnel Nick was respectful and professional. The most miserable auto experience of my life. After less than 3 months of driving a Coastal Auto Center vehicle, I have a $14,000 paperweight.Would not suggest to anyone purchasing a car there. The staff primarily deals with customer frustration by passing the buck to an uninformed employee, often not even in the same location. Purchase process was very painful. First visit to view car (over an hour drive one-way for me) was for nothing as car had been sold a week prior; man I talked to before leaving my home said it was still available. Upon arrival was told there was a "probably a miscommunication somewhere." Got a call a week later saying the car was available again as they only got the deposit from someone that was actually not an American citizen. Met with agent Lance Ward and agreed to purchase vehicle. Had my own financing; they continually attempted to force me to go through their lender even after specifically telling them I didn't want to discuss that option any longer. Lance's decision was to then bring sales manager Mike into the fold to press the financing options. Once they finally let up, it turned out that purchasing the vehicle required visiting two of their other locations for paperwork. Upon completion, I then had to return a third time to actually pick up vehicle. This third trip was after countless reminder phone calls to get back to me with information as they never met the timelines they stated. Knowing my frustration after finally getting the keys, Lance sensed my anger but suggested maybe "I could lie a little and post a good review for them on Yelp." I posted nothing at that time. After 5,000 miles the vehicles rear brakes became so bad the car was unsafe to drive.The metal-on-metal screeching was unbearable while visiting family for the holidays. I had the vehicle checked by a shop and they showed me there was nothing left of the brake pads and the rotors were ground far beyond salvaging. I called in and they stressed they could take the car in and have a look. However, to do that, I would have to call in another day to talk with the Service Manager. It took several days to hear back from the service manager and ultimately was told by Mike the sales manager that there was nothing that could be done. He seemed surprised by the fact I would feel ripped off; after hearing my story of pain of continual trips and bad service, he suggested that I could "drive it down and they could have a look and probably give you some good pricing." read more

If you want to waste your time and raise your blood pressure, this is the perfect place for you to go. Which is a real disappointment because i was referred here by several people. First day was great and the salesman was very friendly and helpful with reviewing over the CarFax report. But once telling him I was waiting for my private loan to be approved, he mentioned about in-house financing. Well most places have in house financing, but come to find out the next day after taking the car for a second test run, he then tells me the only way I can purchase the car is through in-house financing. Best part is they wouldn't process it for an interest rate until a mechanic approved and final price is set on it. Then to top it all of, tells me I have to go to the Norwell location for paperwork to finalize the sale if I chose to purchase the car(WHICH I DID NOT). After a great first day, and a irritating waste of a second day, I put down a deposit in hopes my mechanic wouldn't find anything to be addressed with the car, and to hope for a smoother sale than visit. I was very pleased they allowed me to take the car anywhere I needed to in order to get it looked at, but was not happy to hear not only would they not address the issues that were found, they wouldn't even lower the price to allow me to get it done elsewhere. And then they tell me they want another $1,200 down on the car. EXACTLY why we wanted to run the credit check/financing the day before!!!!!!!!!!! But they were "too busy making 5 or 6 sales" so they didn't have time to run it. So many red flags and an absolute waste of time. One question for you Coastal.... Who's the customer????? read more

Was completely displeased with the experience I had this past month. I traveled about an hour to look at a Subaru Outback they were selling, the first night I went to look at the car the dealer was very accommodating. I took it for a test drive and immediately noticed the ac did not work. I notified him when I came back from the test drive that I was very interested but that the ac would need to be fixed in order for me to continue in purchasing. The dealer stayed past closing time to work with me on the issue. I was then assured that the ac would be fixed given that it was not the anything major. When we continued to discuss going further and signing a purchase of sales I was hassled about wanting to go through my bank rather than financing through them. The dealer explained repeatedly that they do not allow financing through other banks. He continued to say they hardly ever allow it but that he would try, minutes later coming back saying it was all set. After putting a down payment he repeatedly explained that if they fixed the ac and I drove off the lot and there was a problem that it would not be covered in any warranty. That made me feel that he was already trying to avoid truly fixing the problem. Later that week I was called saying the ac had been fixed and that I could come up to finish up paper work and bring the check. I wanted to take it for another test drive and bring it to a mechanic in the area to have it looked at. The dealer told me to take the car and do whatever I wished. I chose to take it to a mechanic. Once I went to the mechanic I quickly found out the AC was not fixed. AT ALL. it was leaking every where and would quickly be back to not functioning. When I went back to the dealer not only was I reprimanded for bringing it to a mechanic the dealer said he thought it was fixed and didn't have an explanation as to why it was not done correctly. It was clear that they wanted me to take it for a test drive see it was working and continue to purchase the car. I truly feel as though because I was young they believed they could get away with not truly fixing the problem, and because it would not be under a safety warranty they would not be responsible for repairing the issue. I would not recommend bringing your business here. read more
