Just wishing for an Italian sub, so unworthy

The good, the bad and the ugly. Wanted to take the fam out for some comfort food, catching up and go somewhere close and decided on Planks's Bier Garten. Upon entering, only two guests sitting at the bar at 530pm slightly suspicious. Greeted and selected seats with menus and drink orders taken promptly, pretzels ordered so we could yap and decide on main courses. 4 nice sized pretzel sticks delivered hot with cheese and mustard dips, were yummy. Ordered two Italian subs with fries and a small and large pizzas. Delivered in a timely manner, hot but here's the catch. Pizza had great toppings, flavor and were pretty much consistent with our expectations. Italian subs just so far under par in pissed me off, why even keep them on the menu if you are gonna skimp, I mean for $13.75 each? Really? Who ok'ed this? Why didn't our server say, hey you may want to pick another sandwich because this one is the "weight watchers" version, or, hey our topping delivery service forgot the ingredients for Italian Subs. You could literally see through the salami slices. Clean bathroom, friendly waitress Becca.

Hawaiian gluten free pizza + mushrooms and no cinnamon

I stopped in for a little football watching and pizza for lunch. The bar area was nice. Very clean with many tvs. They just have basic channels so what ever is on regular tv that is what's on. (No Sunday ticket) The gluten free pizza was good and enough for one. I got the Hawaiian, added mushroom and eliminated the cinnamon. The service was fine

Pizza is always so good!! I've been a fan for years. Love the family too. Don't forget the mini tacos.

Not a traditional wood fire pizza but it was good. The service was excellent. Great views also.

Stopped by Plank's to watch a game, and found seating at the bar. The service was good and the drinks were cheap. We tried the pizza and it was lowkey delicious. Great crunch to the crust. Didn't experience the bier garten this time, but would definitely come back over the summer to try it out!

Came here for Trivia last night with my friend and girlfriend. I was told the pizza was worth trying, and it didn't disappoint. Perfect tavern-style pizza. Was around $11. Had a Hefeweizen beer as well. Trivia format was interesting (you wager points based on the question and confidence in your answer). Ambiance is typical of any beer place, I think. We were sitting at the bar and not outside. Would recommend coming here for the pizza.

Love planks! Pro tip add extra cheese to take pizza to next level! Admittedly they often get orders wrong, so make sure you double check if it's a to go order. But we tolerate the occasional messed up order because the food and vibe is so good.

Plank's is a fun, small restaurant and bar in German Village. The beer selection is pretty decent with both a good amount of drafts along with cans and bottles for more selection. The food was solid and the bartenders were very friendly. I started with a Boat Show IPA from Yellow Springs brewing and it's always a favorite of mine. I started dinner with a small Caprese salad (pictured). It was a little different from others I've had but very tasty. For my main course I had the small veggie pizza (also pictured) and it was pretty decent. The thin crust was crispy and delicious with lots of fresh toppings. The sauce was a little bland but overall it was pretty good. Overall Plank's is a pretty great place that I'd definitely recommend. And I'd love to go back when it's warm and take advantage of the beautiful patio.

    Buffalo chicken dip

Enjoyed a nice Sunday afternoon on the covered patio area with good weather. The Buffalo chicken dip was a little spicy but not too hot. The texture of some of the chicken bits, however, were a bit large and questionable. I picked around it. Chips were on the thicker side, plain, and crunchy. Could have used a few more chip for a more even ratio. Service was good. Not much more to say.

    Is the patio dog friendly?

    The front patio is!

Has Planks closed? I have driven by a few times and the windows look boarded up but I did not have time to investigate. I also called the phone number on the Yelp listing and it says the number has been changed.

    It was but has reopened.

We…read morespent over $80 on a to-go order that included two Gina's Gem, a big cheese pizza, and a salad. The pizza arrived cold but was still edible. Unfortunately, the Gina's Gem was nothing like what was advertised. I was expecting warm, crusty bread with a roasted cheese dip on the side so you could tear pieces of bread and dip them into the cheese. Instead, the cheese had already been spread directly onto the bread and toasted together. Because of that, the bread lost the texture you would expect--it wasn't crusty or dippable at all. It ended up soft, almost soggy, and the cheese was baked onto the bread rather than being a dip. The whole appeal of the dish was supposed to be the warm bread with the roasted cheese to dip into, and that part was completely missing. Included with the bread was a hot honey that missed the mark on being "hot" and some kind of jam. These options just made everything even more soft....which should have been impossible. The salad was actually the best part of the meal - even though it was a bit spicy. I've always had good experiences here in the past, so this was a big letdown--especially for the price. I just wish the to-go version of the dish matched how it's described, or that expectations were set correctly when ordering. Unfortunately, this experience made me lose all trust in ordering from here again. I can't believe we waited until exactly 3pm (when they opened) to order this.... At the very least the pizza should have been hot.

The sandwich was honestly the highlight of the meal. It was delicious, and the pizza dough as the bread was such a unique touch that you really don't find at many Italian sandwich spots around Columbus. The pizza itself was just okay. As you can see from the picture, the toppings weren't distributed very evenly, so some slices had mostly sauce with barely any cheese while others had way more toppings and cheese but less sauce. I also wish the pizza had been cooked a little longer overall because it was pretty floppy and doughy. One thing that makes it tough is that once the movie starts, it's hard to go back and ask for changes or anything since the theater is packed and getting in and out of the seats feels disruptive. We'll definitely be back to Grandview Theater because we love the experience overall, but next time I'll probably stick to the sandwiches and popcorn and skip the pizza.

I tried half of the Licensed to Dill which was just okay. Pickles on pizza isn't really my thing. Pesto on pizza wasn't really my thing either, but having half of a an Ecto Pesto changed my mind. Perhaps the chicken and bacon on the pie was what I really liked, but the point is that it all came together surprisingly well. It definitely gave me hope for the more meat-heavy pizza options that I tend to prefer.

The kind of spot where you expect a solid beer and maybe some decent bar food. What you don't expect? One of the best Detroit-style pizzas of your life hiding behind a window in the back like some carb-based speakeasy. And when I say hidden, I mean hidden. No flashy signage. No "best pizza in town" ego. Just a quiet little window cranking out square pies that deserve a standing ovation. I ordered the classic red top -- already a bold move -- and added pesto because balance matters and I like to live a little. The result? Beyond reproach. Fresh, loaded toppings. Sauce with depth. And that crust... that beautiful Detroit crust. Crispy edges with that caramelized cheese halo, but still chewy and pillowy inside. The textural contrast is what separates amateurs from legends -- and this? This was legend-level execution. Easily top 3 Detroit-style pizzas I've had. And that's not a casual statement.
