Three words to describe this place Ambience, Comfort and Location. Roderick greeted us at the entrance with a hearty welcome. Took us inside out of the miserable rain and explained his role as part of the valet parking service (extra $30 but I think worth it for the convenience). Our rooms (there were 4 of us) were lovely and the beds so cozy and comfortable. Not that we did much laying around as the goal was to experience Savannah. The only cons would be the weird way money was taken and held in uneven amounts for incidentals. It gave us a bit of a scare but was quickly explained when we went downstairs. And they didn't have a bottle opener at reception so we could enjoy a beer and watch the Super Bowl. A travesty I know . We were able to get them open with a little 'creativity' so the crisis was averted. We also joked whenever searching google maps to go anywhere it was only 8 mins away. So central to everything. Definitely give them a serious consideration when looking for somewhere to stay. read more

So. They gave me a credit for the overcharge but not in the amount they overcharged me, every attempt to call or email hasn't been returned, or they say there isn't a supervisor around. Don't stay here, the place is old, they will charge you more than agreed upon. I've paid half as much and stayed at twice as nice of a place. The positive of this place is it's location. There is a ton to do within walking distance. Drop off your car in the lot across the street for $16-20 per day and leave it. The beds were also very comfortable. We would have preferred a queen, but booked through hotel tonight and got two twin beds. Like the rest of Savannah, this place is old. The carpets in the room and halls are worn and dusty looking. The recessed lighting in the room was pushed back and dusty. The shower head could use a replacement, but the bathroom was in good shape otherwise. The toiletries were solid. The aforementioned parking garage was right outside our 3rd floor window and was very loud at a few points throughout the night. The housekeeping can definitely do better here. We found garbage in the room, and the alarm clock went off at 5:50am. They don't have a do not disturb plaque and the housekeeper knocked on our door shortly after 9am. The front desk staff were friendly, but not very engaged, definitely not the Southern Hospitality expected in a place like this. The bellhop we encountered was very nice though. All-in-all if you can get a good deal and don't plan on spending too much time in the room this may be the place for you. We were hoping this place would offer some charm that the big brand hotels in the area wouldn't, but Planters Inn did not deliver. read more

It was a very rushed stay because we were moving and I accidentally left my earrings on the table. Julie was incredibly helpful at locating them and making sure they were sent via Fedex! The hotel is very charming and boasts historic charm. Everyone was helpful and pleasant. The location is one you can't beat. You are in walking distance of just about everything. That being said, the hotel is on the older spectrum. It has a damp smell and only 1 out of the 2 elevators was working during our stay. The room was very charming and small. There were 2 main issues with our room. The heating and cooling system in the room was dated and it took forever to warm up the room. We arrived at night it was chilly outside and the air conditioner was on blast in the room when we arrived. Our teeth were chattering all night. The second issue we had was the bed....if you have back problems this is not the bed for you. You immediately sink into the center of the bed and your feet fly into the air. My wife and I have stayed here twice, both with enjoyable experiences. Our most recent stay was very nice but left some things to be desired. On the good side, you cannot beat the location. A couple blocks from the River is perfect for those who want to really explore Savannah as you have a head start on working toward Forsyth. The rooms are cool and the building has a really nice ambiance. On the alternative, the building is definitely showing its age, and in our most recent experience our bathroom was not quite up to cleanliness standards we'd hope for. In particular, the vent fan was covered with what seemed like years of dust, and the shower had a big hunk of soap residue presumably left off from the previous quest. Some items out of their control that changed since our first visit, Reynolds Square used to be a lovely place to walk out the front door and just sit in the park, but is now completely full of homeless folks. One night during our recent stay someone in the park continued to yell for hours into the night. Overall, I still highly recommend, but would like to see Planters Inn take some basic quality control measures. read more

Well. It's not the best, but it's not the worst. Free breakfast is always better than no breakfast! The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. Also, the location can't be beat. The service left much to be desired - especially for somewhere that boasts about southern hospitality. The rooms were HOT and the windows don't open for any fresh air. We ended up feeling sick when we left due to the poor air circulation. The breakfast is *meh*. I ended up eating toast and an apple each morning. Overall, if you're not picky and want a good location this is your place. If you want to stay somewhere with southern charm and a nice breakfast, I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

The Planters Inn has always been our go to hotel when we vacation in Savannah, that is until now. One of the things we loved about the hotel besides the location, charm and history were the extras you get which included a wonderful free breakfast every morning, wine and cheese in the lobby most evenings, turn down service, bathrobes and a concierge, THAT IS All GONE. It was our 38th wedding anniversary and I asked the lady at the front desk if we could get an upgrade. She told us the hotel was almost full which was obviously not true. She told us to go to our room and she would call us in a few minutes once she checked on the upgrade, the call never came. There was no bottle water in the room and we went to the lobby to get some later that evening the gentlemen said the first two 16oz bottles are free but any others would be charged to our room. I said your going to charge us for water when you took away all the other amenities we have come to expect and he said "we have to make money some how". I understand changes are needed with Covid but if your going to take away all the things we and others have come too expect make it up with lower hotel prices and better services don't blame every thing on covid We have stayed here many times but most likely this will be our last which is very sad. We've stayed here a couple times in the past because of its charm and great central location on Reynolds Square. Unfortunately, it seems to have lost its 'charm'. We stayed in Room 309. There was mold on the bathroom vent and shower curtain; ceiling paint peeling in several areas. The towel bar fell off from the wall while hanging hand towel; shower curtain rod mount ready to fall off. Exhaust fan rumbled and vibrated continuously. Craig at the front desk was un-charming, rude, very condescending, and unprofessional. My partner woke up (shorts & slippers) and went down the elevator, located next to front desk, to inquire about valet and Craig asked him "Are you staying here?" Afterwards, we called and asked for a late check-out and he responded "checkout is at 11 and it's a full house, thus no late check out." My email confirmation via Hotel Tonight is shows 12 PM check out. When we finally went down to the lobby with our luggages I asked him "can I speak to the manager." He replied "The manager is busy at the moment, what's your question?" and I replied "can I speak to the manager is the question" and just walked away to meet with their professional, kind bellman/valet, Roderick, with our car key. Metaphorically, Craig was like the mold in our room... charming facade, hidden mold. Three days after checkout, still haven't received a follow up call from manager. read more

We stopped by the Planters Inn for one night after a weeks stay in Charleston, SC. This place was recommended to us. The check in time is 4pm. We parked across the street. There is a valet parking area on the ground floor. We had to park the car ourselves. We unloaded our luggage and went to the 6th floor. Room 610. The room was clean. The furniture was damaged but we did not put our clothes or belongings in it. As soon as the air conditioner came on, I began to sneeze and cough. I checked the filter to see it was very dirty. There was no one to change the filter as it was after 5 pm. We left the room and walked to a restaurant for dinner. There is no refrigerator or microwave in the room if you were wanting one. No ice. We won't stay at this place again. One of the elevators was out. Two stars for location. read more

No stars....Travelers beware! Stay somewhere else. This is not one of Savannah's finest hotels. My husband and I drove 4 hours to Savannah, paying $408.37 per night to stay at Planters Inn Reynolds Square Oct. 14-16. The first night as we headed out, I informed the front desk about the unsanitary conditions (mildew in the shower, spots on the carpet, thick dust on the blinds, old, dank smell in the room, panties from a previous guest in the drawer, headband on the floor from a previous guest, and rough sheets with knit balls, etc. He said he would have someone clean the room but when we returned from our evening out only the bed was made; the panties were still there along with the headband, mildew, dust, carpet spots, etc. I wrote corporate several times, Charlestowne Hotels (S. Young and M. Cady), getting no response. Shameful and disrespectful! The manager, Mr. Marc Friday, who does not work weekends offered a refund of $452 then reversed it presumably due to my ingratitude at him "refunding"/charging me only $452 which he apparently thinks is a fair price for 2 bad nights sleep on rough sheets and showers in filthy, mildewed bacteria traps where you're afraid to touch anything. The insult was so complete and intentional that travelers deserve to know what kind of business Planters Inn Savannah is. There were other hotels, cheaper hotels we could have stayed in. We were bamboozled. Stay anywhere but here! read more

We were at the Planter's Inn on June 9th thru the 13th. Our room was horrible, it overlooked the parking garage which was so noisy at night that you could not sleep. The worst part of it was that the room was dirty, there were stains on the bedding and the carpeting. The ceiling above the shower looked like it was going to come down as it was all cracked and stained. The railing in the wall that you are supposed to hang on to for the handicap, looked like it was coming out of the wall. I don't understand some of the poor reviews for this place. My wife and I just stayed four nights and were pleased. They're still not making up the rooms, but we knew that up front and were OK with it. We saw no dirt (I think some reviewers mistake old for dirty) or mold, smelled no odors, the elevators worked fine, the TV and Wi-Fi were fine, the mattress was quite comfortable and the staff was friendly and helpful. They don't offer breakfast but the best breakfast in Savannah, Henry's, is 30 seconds away, 15 if you run. This is an older but gorgeous property full of character, in an utterly perfect location. You want shiny and new and lots of amenities, look for other options. You want a solid place to stay, just to relax and/or sleep between doing things in Savannah, come here. read more

In Savannah for a friend's wedding on Reynolds Square, I chose Planters Inn because of the location and the price - $189/night. None of the chain hotels in the historic district - Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn, etc. - could match that deal the first weekend in October. Service was exemplary. Good old-fashioned Southern charm and hospitality reigns at Planters Inn. Free wine and cheese are offered in the lobby Monday - Saturday from 5:30 - 7:30 pm, and an excellent continental breakfast is included with the room rate. I enjoyed the grits, hard-boiled eggs, bagels, yogurt and fresh fruit. (Bonus points for really good coffee and a wide selection of Stash teas.) There are no ice machines available for guest use, but the hotel staff will bring you a bucket within five minutes of your call. (And they'll bring larger amounts if you need to fill a cooler.) We used the valet parking service for $13.95/day, and by the time we made it to the lobby our car was waiting for us -- less than ten minutes, although the hotel recommends calling twenty minutes before you need your vehicle. Our room was well-appointed and very clean. We enjoyed the complimentary bottle of Evian and the fluffy terry robes provided. We didn't shell out any extra bucks for a room with a view, but since we were up on the 6th floor, we could see downtown Savannah over the top of the parking garage next door. The best part of Planters Inn is the location. We parked the car on Friday and didn't use it again until leaving on Sunday. You can walk from the Inn to all the key locations in the historic district. Definitely keep this charming hotel in mind when you plan your next visit to beautiful Savannah, GA. read more

As in all business the most important thing is Location, Location, Location and this place has it. We valet parked and walked the entire 2 days to everything or took the wonderful tours. The Pink House is right next door and I have already reviewed it for it's amazing service, ambiance, food. I love this hotel. We have stayed here once before about 7 years ago. We stayed 2 nights during the steamy summer months. Perfect for a girls weekend. The building is OLD but very well maintained. Our room was very comfortable and decorated very southern GA style. The A/C was nice and chilly. It overlooked the parking lot, but who really cares? We were in our room for showers and sleeping with no need for a view. The staff was super friendly and ready to assist with anything you need. They have complimentary breakfast in the morning and wine and cheese in the afternoon. The location is excellent. Just a few blocks from the riverfront, a few blocks from City Market, with great pubs, bars and restaurants. Also, right next to the Pink House Restaurant which has an amazing pub in a basement! This is advertised as a bed and breakfast, but there is no breakfast. Understandable, given Covid, but there was no option for a discount at a restaurant or any "work around". Moreover, we booked a queen bed and they only have full beds. They told us to call the travel agent when we pointed out that we had paid for a queen bed. Let me first say that this is a very pretty building and the rooms are cozy. We unfortunately were making our stay in Savannah short and sweet hoping to go sightseeing and experience the night life. Of course we came on Wednesday, the same day Savannah was experiencing the crazy snow storm that hit the eastern coast. I called ahead of time just making sure that places were still open but they did offer free cancellation if we decided to turn around. We were just 2 hours away so we decided to still come since they said some places were still open. Long story short, the whole city was shut down. We ended up having to eat snacks from a gas station. They did have a wonderful cheese and wine social gathering. They do offer free breakfast but since the city was covered in ice, we had to go buy our breakfast elsewhere since their breakfast staff didn't show. We also asked for water bottles at the front desk and they didn't have that either. I understand circumstances were not ideal for our visit, but I think we should have been given some sort of discount for the things we missed out on at the hotel and what not. read more

My sister, daughter and I stayed at the Planters Inn on Reynolds Square and loved the ambiance and the true southern vintage decor and feel. From the moment we pulled up everyone from the valet/bellman, front desk girls to the breakfast attendants were all very helpful, attentive and accommodating to all of our want/needs. From assisting us with tour information and arranging for a shuttle to pick us up, filling our cooler with ice after we left for the day to tour the city, to providing me with a bag of ice at the end of the night for my sore knee. The only downside was the view from our room although we spent so much time visiting the city we hardly noticed. Although very steamy in July, Savannah is a beautiful, historic city to visit. read more

I had to call front desk from my cell to get help. Got to our room after a 15 min fiasco & called for a bellman to help w/ our bags. After 15 min, we gave up & took our bags down. It is in a fabulous location - 5 min walk to River St., across the street from the Olde Pink House, 2 min walk to Leopold's Ice Cream, and many more. We enjoyed the wine and cheese (which also had live music) from 5:30-7:30 on Saturday night. Unfortunately, there is no wine and cheese on Sunday which was disappointing. It's 3:45AM. Rarely do I write bad reviews and even MORE rarely, do I write them at this hour!!!!!!! Um... first of all, I paid for a queen bed and somehow ended up in a TWIN. I have never had to sleep in a twin bed in my life - let alone for $200 a night. NO PROBLEM! Until... There's an f-ing rave happening in the parking garage RIGHT next door (outside my window) and all I hear is base thumping and people screaming. No one here seems to have any desire to fix this. OR even warn me about it. Apparently, there's some noise ordinance that says anyone can make noise until 4am. Awesome (if I'm in college). So, people... My husband and I came to Savannah for the second stop on our honeymoon tour of the South. We had no clue where to stay, but ended up picking the Inn on my grandmother's recommendation. Wow! I'm so glad I listened to grandma! The inn is beautiful. The rooms ares smaller then we are used to in California, but for a city inn it was perfectly respectable. Beautifully decorated and impeccably clean. Our room overlooked the square, and I can't tell you how incredible it was to wake up every morning and sip a cup of coffee overlooking the beautiful park. The staff had perfect southern charm. Everyone from the bellhop to the receptionist to the maid were warm and friendly. And when they found out that we were on our honeymoon the last night we were there, they sent up a bottle of champagne with chocolate covered strawberries from the Old Pink House, along with a handwritten note of congratulations and warmth. Beautiful little boutique hotel. Friendly, helpful staff and free coffee in the lobby and in-room. Parking garage $10-$25 max per day. We paid $10 for an overnight (Wed-Thu) stay. Garage has an elevator and is right next to the hotel (saves the $39 hotel valet fee). Conveniently located near River Street and many other, walkable parts of Historic Savannah. Nicely appointed room with robes in the wardrobe and a safe. We had a room on the 7th floor above the parking lot; very quiet. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. One star off for stain on the carpet in our room and a couple of small holes in the hallway walls. read more

We spent two pleasant nights at the Planters Inn during a recent visit to Savannah. We got a great deal using an online service, but would definitely consider staying there again without the benefit of the discount. Savannah is a very walkable city and the hotel is conveniently located. It is beautiful on the inside with a lovely, welcoming lobby, and a great staff. Being an older hotel, the rooms are an assortment of sizes. We lucked into one of the larger rooms which was nicely appointed and very comfortable. The room rate includes a nice breakfast and a wine-and-cheese reception in the afternoon. One really nice touch was that we found our ice bucket full each evening when we returned from dinner; something I have only seen in one other hotel, and a touch I truly appreciate. Valet parking is very reasonable and your car is easily accessible in the parking garage across the street. I do have three caveats: 1. Most of the rooms face the ugly 1960s/1970s parking garage across the street. We really didn't spend that much time in the room but, when we did, we just closed the sheers during the day and curtains at night and enjoyed the pleasant room. 2. On our first morning we got to breakfast a bit on the late side and found the fruit and some other items either almost gone or completely gone. When we arrived on the early side the second morning, there was plenty of everything. So, adjust your timing accordingly. 3. Whenever we asked the concierge for a restaurant recommendation, she would recommend a nearby tavern. We did eat there our last night, it was just OK, but there was nothing uniquely Savannah about it. On the first night, we pressed her a bit harder for a place with great shrimp and grits, and she did finally come through with a great recommendation. read more

We called the evening before our stay trying to move our stay from Wednesday to Thursday due to an unforeseen event. We were told the hotel sold out on Thursday and the only rooms available ran a premium of $219. The front desk person Craig was gonna let us cancel without a fee. Eventually, we decided to go down to Savannah as originally planned and were glad that we went. It was a nice and cheap stay. The first time I got my key, they gave me a key to an occupied room, but it was quickly taken care of. The building is old but very clean. Our room faced the parking garage, but we didn't find it to be loud at night. The TV is an old tube type, but who cares. The location is convenient, it is close to river and the shops in the downtown area. They ran a complimentary cheese and wine social from 5:30 to 7:30, which we missed. From what I observed from the left over cheese, it was nothing fancy (pepper jack and cheddar cheese cubes from regular grocery stores). All in all, we were happy and got what we paid for. read more
