Our server was incredibly knowledgeable, and he made great suggestions. My wife ordered a Sprite, and he made it look fancy to surprise and slight her. The handmade garlic bread is a must, and the Ceasar salad tasted amazing. The pasta dishes we had were extremely tasty, especially the pappardelle. Our server said we wouldn't be disappointed and we weren't. It was the best pasta I have ever eaten. The Italian old fashioned was prepared very well - although it was not served in a whiskey glass, which bothered me slightly. We visited Plate for the first time and over all food good. Three things we were disappointed with. 1. Scallops were expensive and they gave you three. Don't order if you're expecting a meal. 2. The restaurant charges a non cash transaction fee for not using cash. This should be disclosed before a person chooses to eat there. 5% of the total bill approximately. 3. The server was in constant upsell mode and removed cocktail glasses before we were finished. 4. I would eat here again but not if I was real hungry. read more

I had a great meal at Plate last week. I was meeting a friend for an early dinner. We got truffle fries for the table, which were INCREDIBLE. My friend got the Caesar salad and I got the gnocchi. We wanted to try the Leawood location because it's very close to our home but it turned out to be a major disappointment. From now on we will go to the original. 1. The restaurant was insanely loud. We sat in a booth with another couple and toward the end of the meal we were laughing because we couldn't carry on a conversation. 2. Our waitress was either having a bad day or clearly hated her job. Tried to upsell us on everything and got mad when didn't accept her suggestion's. Keep in mind we ordered two appetizers, meals and side salads, along with drinks so I don't understand her outright hostility. 3. Food. Let's start with what worked. Brussels and bread were amazing. My husband's risotto was lovely. I got the pasta special. Soooo salty. Like couldn't eat it salty. It was great to see our friends but we won't be going back to the Leawood location. read more

I've been here before and had a lovely experience however, we went there today for brunch and the experience was awful. We had a 10:30 reservation and the restaurant was basically empty, we ordered cocktails immediately and it took 27 minutes to get them. We then ordered an appetizer that several of us had before and was served cold, almost frozen in the middle. We politely sent it back and they remade it only for it to be cold again, The main courses were good but the service was painfully slow, and again, the restaurant was not busy at all so not sure what the deal was. The red headed bartender was super unfriendly at one point rolling her eyes at us because they had messed up and forgot to bring out our soup before the meal so when it arrived at the same time, I told them I no longer wanted it. I know it's tough to find help these days but this place will not survive if they can't get their service up to par. Super disappointed and won't be back. read more

Party of 5 for my son's 21st birthday this past Friday. I made reservations 2 weeks in advance. They sat us at a table for 4 w/ a chair at the end (at 5:15 pm). My husband & younger son ordered filet, both medium well. They came out purple in the center. Waited 15 minutes for kitchen to redo. Caesar salad looked like romaine leaves taken out of the bag & put in a bowl. Sold out of chocolate cake (again, 5:15pm). Very disappointing 21st birthday experience. Came here for lunch with a friend. Cannot believe it was a California Pizza kitchen before, it is such a stunning, beautiful space: High end, artistic finishes, fresh flowers. Concerned because it was not busy on a Friday afternoon. We shared the pear & Gorgonzola app, delicious. Lots of arugula on top. I had the unique Moderna salad & added shrimp. Friend had the chicken parm sandwich. Service was wonderful, super friendly and accommodating. They created a mocktail for me, even though there wasn't one on the menu. You can bring back your receipt for free truffle fries at HH, or at brunch for some enormous cinnamon rolls. Will be back. read more

My husband and I dined at Plate for our anniversary and we were so impressed! Of course the food was delicious, but the service was impeccable. Our server was fantastic, had great suggestions and the service was prompt. The manager stopped by on several occasions to ask how we were doing. We even noticed that team members who weren't our server took the time to clear plates from our table and refill our water. Super cool to see teamwork like that. I took his word on it and got the bolognese while my brother and grandmother got the pappardelle and the aribiata. I went back with my whole family for my grandmothers 80th birthday. This was my first time at Plate. Service was pretty good, and our food wasn't bad either -- I liked the brussels sprouts and the salmon, and my dining companions pronounced their halibut "OK -- could've used more flavor." They gave me the wrong salad, but when I pointed it out they brought me a new one really quickly and with a smile! Unfortunately, most of the desserts weren't gluten free (which my companions are), so we didn't get to try any of them. So why am I giving it 3 stars? When we were presented with the check, there was a fee for using a credit card. A fee that is not anywhere on the menu and was not mentioned by any servers. It was about $6 on a $200ish check, so not a big deal monetarily, but it is a big deal in principle. People simply do not carry around that much cash as a matter of course these days, nor do they carry around checkbooks. The owner should either: 1) put the fee on the menu or have servers tell people when they come to the table, or 2) just bake the fee into prices -- which is the more logical option, since I assume 99% of people are paying with credit card. Actually, this could even be seen as an extra money grab -- since most people are paying with credit card, that means most people are being charged extra. It's really a toxic and gross practice and this restaurant should be ashamed.. I will add that the server was very nice about it and offered to take the fee off, but it's the principle of the matter. This was our first time, but totally underwhelmed for the cost. There were four of us eating and the total was $150. We ordered three appetizers, a cup of soup, and a small salad. We each had one drink. The salad was listed as having multiple ingredients, but it came out with basically just lettuce. When we asked the manager about it, he said yes this is how it's always presented. There's nothing wrong with it, basically. there were a total of two pieces of goat cheese and maybe 3 pieces of meat, and no leeks. The dressing was very bland. We ordered all of the bruschetta apps. The tomato one had HUGE pieces of tomato. We had to cut all of the pieces to make it more edible. The bread it was served on wasn't good at all. Entire dish was bland. The tomato soup was decent, but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere was very nice - pretty and quiet. Our waitress was sweet but not impressed with the management. They did give us $15 off cards for our next visit, but not sure we'll be back. We'll see. UPDATE: I added a star because the manager has refunded our experience. I'll give Plate a 4+ because the food was so delicious. All of our entrees were delicious as was the bread. Our service and server on the other hand were quirky. He 'misheard' an order and seemed somewhat certain we made the mistake. They did offer to replace, but we chose not to delay the table. I also had to ask repeatedly for a tea refill. He then asked the entire table of 4 our dessert preferences, dropped 4 spoons and brought out one dessert to split. Again, we weren't charged, but it seemed quirky. My husband and I went here to celebrate my birthday last week. It was our first time, but we will certainly be back! We did the pasta prix fixe and chose the burrata e prosciutto for the antipasti. Once it came out we knew we were in for a treat, as it was a well balanced way to start the meal, creamy, a little salty, crispy bread and fresh blood orange and arugula. My husband got the arugula salad which was tasty and I got the moderno. My salad was good too, maybe slightly overdressed towards the bottom, but the espresso vinaigrette was really good, so I wasn't complaining! My husband had the carbonara which he slurped down, and I had the pappardelle, which I would absolutely get again, the pasta itself was delicious, and the sauce was a good combination of meaty and tomatoey. For dessert we chose the chocolate cake, which was a bit of an up charge, but it was a wonderful way to end the meal. We are looking forward to our next meal at Plate. read more
