This is the fourth Happy Hour at PLate. Tonight I tried the Edelflower Tonic which is a house special drink. It was fabulous. I will definitely order again. The Brussels sprouts with bacon and drizzled with just the right amount of basaltic came out hot, crunchy and delicious. Seafood chowder was excellent as ever. I visited Plate twice last week. One was with my husband at the end of restaurant week. We ordered from the special restaurant week menu. The food / steaks, were outstanding as was the service. Five star all the way. I returned the next day, with a pal, and ordered off the regular menu. We both ordered their hamburger and fries. I would have done better at McDonalds. The fries were soft and greasy. We ordered both hamburgers 'pink' and my friend's came next to raw. They gladly replaced and waived the charge. Servers are outstanding. read more

Awful. Friday night dinner reservations for what we thought was an upscale modern restaurant, but we thought wrong. The inside dining area was annoyingly loud, making it nearly impossible to relax and catch up with friends, so we chose Plan B, outside on the small crowded patio. The ambiance was weird. Our server was also the bartender, which may explain why our service was less than acceptable. They market themselves as upscale, offering filet mignon and lobster, yet the vibe was more like a crammed, extremely loud sports bar, serving Applebees quality food with downtown Mpls steakhouse pricing. The best item was a clam chowder appetizer. The included entree side was described as creamy mashed potatoes, but came out clumpy, dry and tasteless. The filet mignon was worse. I initially ordered rare as I planned to take most of it home and reheat later, but the server declined and explained the best they could do would be medium-rare. Photo shows the 'medium rare' filet mignon ordered and the well-done thin piece of meat received. All four of us ordered a medium rare filet, yet all four received dry, overdone, flavorless meat. Love, love, love this restaurant! Consistently excellent food, service and ambiance! If you haven't had the chance to check it out, do yourself a favor and make those reservations! It's the best restaurant in all of Prior Lake! If I had one complaint, it would be a request to mix up the menu now and then. I've had most everything on the menu now, some things more than once. I truly love them all, but it would be really nice to see some new menu items added! Edit: I once brought home leftovers from a pasta dish to have for lunch at work the next day. My friends took me out for my birthday. I ordered the salmon chef plate and it would have been great but the salmon was overcooked and dry. That ruined it. Our server didn't check back to ask how everything was. The Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc was excellent. The calamari small plate was good. read more

I came here for drinks and dinner with a friend, and both the food and service were wonderful! We ordered the steak bites for an appetizer, and they pretty much melted in our mouths - 10/10 The pear salad is amazing, too - the tart pear mixes very well with the creamy feta and sweet carmelized nuts! Came here on a double date. First of all, do yourself a favor and order the artichoke dip. That was absolutely delicious. We all split it and it was the perfect amount for four people. I didn't have a cocktail but they looked well crafted and I was told that they were tasty. For food our group ordered the Carbonara, Scallops, Ribs and the Steak Burger. I was told that the Carbonara and Scallops were delicious. Both dishes looked fantastic. My wife and I split the burger and ribs. Both were great. Both the ribs and burger were extremely tender and well seasoned. No need to get the double patty as the single patty was plenty of burger. Both the burger and ribs came with fries that were delicious as well. This place has a great vibe and atmosphere. There were families there with teenage kids but this is definitely more of a date place. Only reason I gave it 4 stars is because the server was just a tidge slow with the service. PLate was a surprise find- kudos for the sign placement and that the name was intriguing (I loved the play in the name referencing Prior Lake ate). It has a classy feel but comfortable if you're wearing jeans. The decor is classic and minimalist with blacks, grays and browns with the bar on one side and dining on the other, being an open concept restaurant, I was happy that there was no noise carry over from the full bar. We enjoyed a shrimp cocktail which had four very large shrimp, each bite was firm. The menu selection was appealing and we had a hard time deciding (we'll have to go back to try more!). I had the Seven Seas and he had the Seafood Paella, both had a heaping amount of seafood. The two scallops on each plate were huge and perfectly cooked, there was a full selection of each of the seafood that the meals described. We've found that some restaurants will skimp on the oysters and put in extra shrimp, but that was not the case at PLate. Our server was enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in provided guidance on the drink and food menus. read more

Service and food has gone down since my last review. I would recommend this place for Happy Hour, apps and a drink. Not dinner. I have tried multiple dishes for dinner and was always disappointed. My last choice was the Paella and the shellfish did not seem fresh with a fishy flavor. Don't get me wrong I love shellfish but not tasting like that. Reminder you now NEED reservations at the BAR no matter what time of the day. So odd! More people come here for cocktails,which the old fashioned is delicious, but not dinner. read more

Food and drinks were superb, wait staff service could be improved. Steak Bites were buttery with no fatty pieces A+. Prime Rib Sandwich was best of my life. Great Au jus and bread for dipping. Fries were great too. Had the squash and mashed potatoes for sides. Squash was amazing and more like a dessert. The old fashioned and rum punch were great (slightly overprice) beverages. Our party of 8 (6 adults, 1 toddler and 1 young teen) had reservations for 1:45 pm on Mother's Day and arrived promptly. However, we had to wait almost 15 minutes for our table. When we got to our table, there were no forks and not enough napkins or knives. BTW, when we arrived, only about 1/3 of the tables were occupied. We waited over 10 minutes to even get our drinks ordered. Two of us ordered the Mimosas (this was supposed to be our Mother's Day treat!) and politely asked for our refills before finishing what we had. That did not happen. Then we had to wait another 15 minutes to order our food. We waited about 30 minutes for our food. Did I mention it was Mother's Day and we had toddler? I had to get up to go tell our server that our toddler was very hungry and expecting him to sit longer was inviting a meltdown. Our young teen ordered the lobster Mac and cheese only to be told 15 minutes later that they were out. He ended up ordering something he really didn't want. He was really looking forward to the Mac and cheese. But then, weirdly he did get his Mac and cheese. The server did bring out our toddler's pancakes soon after. Once our food finally arrived, my son's meal was cold, I had to ask for the hash browns and another in our party had to ask for his toast that were supposed to come with our meals. My husband's meal was delivered 5 minutes after everyone else's. There were multiple in our party who had fries however, the server didn't bring out the ketchup. Again, we had to ask for Mimosa refills. Our son, his wife and toddler left early because they were quite dissatisfied with the whole experience. The rest of us stayed for dessert which took way too long considering we were the last ones left in the dining area. All 3 of us Mothers were extremely sad that what was supposed to be "our day" was ruined by inept staff and cook. You all need lessons on time management. Our party dumped $200 plus tips. Sooooooo.... And btw, I held down 2 server jobs in my younger days. I was taught to make certain the children were taken care of promptly so they didn't become disruptive to rest of the guests. Awesome dining experience. The steak was good. Love the sides and how they are shareable. Great menu set up. I took away a star ONLY because the atmosphere seemed a bit confusing. Do I need to be business casual or casual? I look at others there and at the decor. Is this a Morton's steakhouse or a higher end casual steakhouse. I reference the above because this is the first time I felt like I didn't know what I should do in a group setting. I was with other co-workers. Do we talk about work? Do I tell them I'm about to destroy my steak in 2 bites? Waitress was great. Food amazing. I would come back. If I do, it's for a nice after work dinner. read more

The steak tips were amazing! We came back in July and we still compare them to all the steak tips near us every time we have them. Bottomless mimosas were great too, they kept them filled and the wait staff was very nice. It's a really modern venue in a cute little part of town. Outdoor space looked fun. Only thing I would say is to have the sound on for games on sundays! read more

Best food and experience ever! Try their Tres Amigos pasta or Steak bites! As well start with their artichoke dip!

PLate was a delight to dine at. Our party of four was sat at a spacious round booth in the corner, and shortly after being seated our server greeted us and brought our drinks promptly. The cocktail menu is fantastic, a lot of good options to choose from. I ordered the ginger and the manhatten, another at our table ordered the margarita, all very enjoyable drinks with well thought out flavors in each and lovely presentation. They have great beer and wine selections as well, everyone at our table had exactly what they wanted. For food, we started with the crab and artichoke dip, which was phenomenal. The perfect temperature with fresh mozzarella and crab that added a wonderful layer of texture and flavor. For entrees we ordered the bone-in NY strip, scallops, and brussel sprouts for a side. The steak and scallops were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious, we did think the brussel sprouts could have been cooked a little longer, but were still perfectly edible and had nice flavor. Throughout our meal our server was polite and attentive but didn't hover, which we appreciated. The atmosphere of the dining room was very pleasant to have a conversation in, not too loud to hear the people across from you in my opinion, and the design of the whole place is very modern and classy. I love the bar area as well and can't wait for the warm weather to come and try out the patio! Came here for dinner last night during Restaurant Week. We had never heard of this place so decided to check it out. Overall, our experience was great. Started with the Shrimp Ceviche and Caesar Salad. Both were great. Ceviche was a small portion and needed more chips. Fresh and tasty though! For entrees we ordered the Filet with asparagus and the Salmon with risotto. Filet was perfectly cooked. It was pretty cold when we received it and I'm guessing that was due to how they cut it to present it. Cooled off quickly. Still tasted great though and asparagus was perfectly cooked. Salmon was delicious. Cooked well and had great flavors. I'd definitely order that again. For dessert I got the mini key lime pie and my boyfriend got the pistachio creme brûlée. Again, both were great and the mini was a perfect portion. Old Fashioned was good but I suspect they had them premixed because they were served so quickly. The amount you get is maybe 1oz with a giant ice cube taking up most of the glass. I know that's how they are traditionally served, we love an old fashioned, but it was a pretty small pour compared to other places. Overall, a great dinner. We look forward to taking my parents here sometime as they live pretty close! read more

I definitely need to update my review on PLate. In the last 6 months they've really worked out the kinks and this has become a regular place for my husband and I. Their salmon is my favorite and I think every time I order it it gets better. All of the ingredients seem to have been stepped up (not that they were bad to begin with but now they shine). Service has improved too. They have a bartender that works on Tuesdays (Tara) that we actually go to just to see HER and her fabulous pear martinis. We've been exploring the menu a bit more and there really hasn't been anything we wouldn't order again, it's all been pretty solid. My husband & I were very excited for this restaurant. We love supporting our local businesses! First off, the drinks are phenomenal!! Many unique choices & fun with dry ice. 5 stars for the drinks. The staff is fabulous! Very attentive, friendly & on top of everything. The food I was a bit disappointed in BUT I recognize PLate is still newer & learning the ropes so I'm hopeful my review will be used as constructive criticism. I ordered the king crab legs. The waiter brought it out & cut & removed the meat table side... which would have been great except he literally shredded the meat out of the shell. No big chunks... it was literally a shredded mess. So I guess training on that is a must! Especially for the price tag. It was tasty even tho shredded. The a la cart sides are TINY! We ordered 3 sides & each one was very good but way too small for the price. Manny's has a better value for sides so that was VERY disappointing. My husband ordered the rib eye. He is a serious steak guy. He said it was pretty average. Not as much flavor as he had hoped for. It was cooked to his liking tho. His favorite steak is only a couple blocks down the road (Sul Lago where their chef also works)... so his expectations were high. The ambience is nice & clean. It's not a real cozy atmosphere because it seems to be mostly concrete, metal & windows but it looks nice. We went back just for drinks last week & we plan on continuing to support this local business. Hopefully they tweak a few things. But I definitely plan to be back to check out the not so pricey meals! read more

Love this place! I have a love for The Prince (PLate 75) drink so I stop in every so often to have one or two. I have experienced brunch, dinner, and happy hour here. Each time I have enjoyed the food and drinks. I would recommend the prime rib, prime rib sandwich, sea bass, and the crab cakes for sure!Happy your menu the nacho fries are a for sure. Well, I'll chalk this up to a new restaurant. Some good, some bad. Unfortunately I was on the short end of the stick. Two Prime Rib Sandwiches came to the table, with one being ice cold. The accompanying fries were cold as well. It took some time to turn around a redo of the "plate", with the owner personally delivering it with apologies. Drinks were slow to the table, out of dry ice, and STRONG without flavor. They need to invest in noise reduction panels for the ceiling. It's not only add to the ambiance, but enable two people to hold a reasonable conversation. The exterior design of the building looks like it should be in downtown Minneapolis, not Prior Lake. Albeit very nice. We'll give it another go and I hope I'll be able to turn my feedback into a positive. Wishing them the best. read more

Stopped in for lunch on Sunday, wanted to try their burger but when I asked the server if I should go with the prime rib sandwich or the burger, he recommended the prime. He wasn't wrong! Washed it down with a Modist dreamyard IPA and I was set. The only thing I asked about was the horseradish mayo and woshed it had more kick, 15 seconds later I had a small container of horseradish in front of me. Maybe next time I'll try the burger. read more
