You look around the restaurant and notice all the small pieces that celebrate European travels (which the owner had just gotten back from). Possibly the best Old Fashioned in town. Pricey but delicious food in a lovely French-like bistro environment. Cool decor but inconsistent music programmiong being piped in. Small, tightly designed and can get crowded and noisy so if you are looking for cozy, not here. The bartender might talk too much for some, if you're bar people. They have another small bar out their side door and across the patio called the Lion's Den that is dark and speak-easy like. We like that one in the winter time because it's dark and cozy. You can get the same menu and cocktails. We go to The Noble Lion for the Old Fashioneds and the scallops. the scallops are perfectly sauteed and served down the center of a rectangular plate of their creamed corn. Absolutely delish. I visited The Noble Lion for a girl's night out on a Saturday night and we had a great time! With there being 8 of us, we made sure to make a reservation. Our table was ready for us right on time and overall, we had a good experience. This restaurant was much smaller than I anticipated so I would highly recommend making a reservation so you can get a table. Our waitress was pretty good. Our food was accurate, and she consistently filled our water glasses which was appreciated. The only downside was that our bills were not correct. I ended up with wine on my tab, which I never drank. Fortunately, us girls figured it out but after mentioning to our waitress that the wine was inaccurate, she said that everyone's bill would be inaccurate. We were being pushed out by the hostess due to another reservation after us, so that was the only negative part of our experience... we felt like we were being pushed out and that we just needed to hurry and pay even though the bill was not accurate. In terms of the food, everything we had was delicious. The highlights, the brussel sprout appetizer and the scallops & bacon. Both had great flavor and dishes I would return for. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit The Noble Lion but if you're in the area, it's a tasty, cozy dinner spot that's worth trying. read more

My boyfriend's Pan Seared halibut was under seasoned but my Steak au Poivre was excellent - seriously so good! The Gouda cheese curds were OK but the toasted baguette with honey goat cheese and blueberry compote were AMAZING! My hubby and I had to work an evening of events in Victoria, so we decided to do a foodie evening prior to our shifts. We scoped out all the restaurants and decided this one fit our cravings the most. The interior was clean and well maintained. It looked pretty fancy, but we were surprised by the sports bar attire on the staff. (T-shirt and jeans). I would have assumed this account would have the fancy craft establishment aprons with the restaurant name or logo on them or something more elevated for the staff. Our server was very nice. I recommend trying to get in right when they open or making a reservation. Food: Gouda curds - we really enjoyed these! They reminded us of a gooey Cheese-It! We would get again **Please don't serve them on the black napkin ... some of ours melted to the napkin and we got pieces of the paper on our cheese. I understand why you may want to have them on something.. to sop up oil or so they won't slide off, but it is unpleasant to eat paper. (If you like it.. I won't judge... it's just not our style) Bouillabaisse (halibut, mussels, shrimp, calamari, saffron broth, crostini). I wanted to like this... on paper it sounds amazing! The flavor was super watered down and it needed saffron, fresh herbs, salt, lemon juice and fat (butter/oil) to give it some flavor. It tasted like an odd fish stock. My hubby choked it down... I wanted to send it back and I NEVER send back food! The crostini was ok, but that was about it. Duck & Scallops - the dish prior was a major let down, but I would come get this one everyday!!! Don't ever remove this from your menu as you have a truly unique and amazing dish here! I love duck and I love scallops... I couldn't figure out how they could make them both mesh on one dish.. they did it! The scallops were cooked to perfection and the duck was so flavorful. The shared component was mashed potatoes. Only recondition... something green on the plate. Maybe a few sprigs of asparagus or a few crispy brussel sprouts? Just thinking about this makes me want to get it again! Crave worthy! Get it! Next time, I'm getting my own vs sharing it! Dessert- we didn't really have room for dessert, but we tried the blueberry lemon posset. It was a good sized jar dessert. Perfect for sharing. The lemon was bold and flavorful and they had fresh blueberries on top. I liked, but would have loved a little more blueberry integrated in. Or some cooked blueberry syrup or jam on it. Overall, we would go back for the Duck & Scallops and probably get the Gouda curds. I would like to try some of the cocktails too! read more

Great little place in Victoria. The alley seating feels super nice. The food was excellent. We had the grilled asparagus and they were delicious. We opted for burgers and they were great. I had the Blue Burger and the French Onion burger. Their cocktails were pretty good too. What I would like to bring up is the Service. Staff were super attentive and accommodating. But! I wanted to give extra kudos to the host gal. We had a reservation for outside seating but I did catch the disclaimer while reserving that in case of bad weather we wouldn't have a guaranteed seating inside. We decided to proactively move inside but the host told us, after asking if anything was wrong with our table, that they didn't have any available seating at the moment but that we could sit at the bar if we chose to. I went to talk to my party and we chose we'd move in to the bar in a few minutes. Just a minute later the host came outside to let us know a table had just opened up and if we were interested in getting it. So that was nice. For dessert we had a Crème Brûlée and it was fantastic. Drinks: we had wine, a Signature Old Fashioned and an N/A Guinness. Pricing was a tad on the higher end for other food items like steak and fish, but if they are as good as the burgers were, I would say their price is well worth it. I did not know Victoria is a beautiful town outside the Twin Cities. I am so glad I came here for dinner, and I am sure this will not be my last. We made phone reservations and it is highly recommend, according to the website. We reserved the patio, but when I arrived I saw the decor inside, I quickly switched it around. Our server had mask-on and she was very friendly. We both ordered drinks right away, I had Manhattan and my friend got extra Dirty Martini. We enjoyed our fabulous meals, I had Duck and Scallops and my friend had Mussels and fries. Overall everything was great, food and service was on point. read more

It's quaint, with limited seating (call ahead or sit at the bar) with a welcoming and comfortable ambience, friendly service and unique flavors in their dishes. It was ok. The service was great, but the drinks came out painfully slow and the food was disappointing. Like it was fine, but not memorable. I had the French onion burger and it was dry and flavorless and my partner had a pasta that was boring and average at best. The place was busy but they were able to sit us outside right away and others on the patio seemed to be regulars, so they must be doing something's right. If I went back, I'd choose to sit at the bar for faster drink service and probably stick to wine and frits. read more

This place is Amazing! My Husband and I had a date night while our child was at his grandparents for a sleep over. We have wanted to try The Nobel Lion since they opened but date nights come Far and few with a little one. So, we walk in and they ask if we have reservations? We say no and got scared that we should have. The owner runs up. Checks the schedule and told us we could have a table as long as we could be done by 6:30. We said yes!! That gives us 2 hours and would be plenty of time for us. Well.... It actually took us the whole 2 hours because the drinks and the food and the service were exceptional!!! We savored every sip, every bite. The Nobel Lion is at the top of our list for a date night! We can't wait to return to this gem so close to us! read more

Absolutely adore this location & the quaint + pub-like building TNL resides in. From booths to 'steak house' menus, I was very impressed aesthetically! While the prices were high, portions were average enough w/ unique menu options to choose from! While I wouldn't necessarily plan my next date here, I'd be willing to go back and order new items (simply to see if some is better than the rest)! I wasn't *in love* with the food, much less my meal of choice, but I wasn't in-hate either. I had a subpar experience here all in all, but I think it's worth a shot, especially for locals in the area. I went there to pick up food for my wife. As I waited at the front to see where I would go to get my wife's orde , some older gentleman walks up a say's rudely "you here for a table or pick up"I respond pickup order and he says "rudely" that's at the bar. I would have understood his rudeness if the place was crowded but it wasn't.Then I waited at the bar and the bartender was not around so of this rude guy comes up to me again and says" you the bacon cheeseburger? I said yes paid the bill and left. It's quite obvious the owner and customers of this establishment are not accustomed to seeing people of color attend this restaurant. I will never be going back to that place again. I highly recommend if you are a person of color you don't go to the restaurant. It is not a welcoming environment. The Noble Lion is a charming bistro in the heart of this growing town. The atmosphere at the Noble Lion (not sure how it got its name) is warm and inviting. And it's a welcome addition to the growing town of Victoria. We enjoyed a delightful glass of house wine and then settled in for dinner The menu is intriguing and they offer small and large plates that meet almost anyone's hunger pangs. We started with the Frites, which are served with three types of dips. They were hot and crisp, but the tiny bits and pieces at the bottom of the serving bowl made it possible to grab with our fingers. We all had the Noble Salad, a simple dish of butter lettuce with a thin coating of the house vinaigrette. The Lake Superior Fish Cakes, served with some greens and a tasty aioli were excellent. The mussels were plentiful, but small, and the juice was overly salty. The toasted bread that arrived with the dish served its purpose by soaking up the juices. Finally, we all shared the creme brulee, which had just the right amount of crunch and was not too sweet. All in all, the Noble Lion is an excellent choice for a good meal with friends or family. read more

The Lion's Den is decked out for the holidays, it looks amazing. The bar staff and the bar manager Zac are warm and welcoming. The place is very well decorated but the value isn't there. The drinks are great, but the food falls a little flat. The mussels are great but the croutons with the grilled Caesar were just stale and chewy rather than toasted. The chicken was a very small portion for well over $20. It was also dry and the mashed potatoes didn't taste much like fennel. They were also overworked and gloopy- similar to dehydrated boxed mashed potatoes. The bacon scallops were great- if a little over salted. Overall. I was really not impressed for the hype and the price tag. Service was excellent but trying to call for a reservation got us a rude response twice. I'd give this place another shot- hopefully they were just having a bad day. read more

This review is really meant to provide feedback to what could be a great restaurant. We have eaten here several times at both the restaurant and the pub. Tonight, we were at the pub. Food was good and the service was great. Two salads, a soup, an appetizer, a side, and two drinks. We asked for another piece of bread and were brought one half a piece. Bill comes and they charged $2 for that 1/2 piece of bread that we thought was a courtesy. I also asked what the "non-cash" $2.40 charge was on the bill and we were told it was because we used a credit card. The bill was $89 without a tip and we were charged extra for not paying cash. Do you expect people to pay cash for $100+ meal? It is not the $4.40 extra we were charged. The point is that almost no restaurant as nice as this one would charge either of these fees. We like driving out to Victoria and The Noble Lion's food and service, but suggest you avoid leaving a negative impression by building the cost of 1/2 a piece of bread and credit card fees into the meal. read more

I've been here twice. Both times the food and drinks were fine, but the consensus of the group: disappointing given the price. The patio was cramped. I think I was closer to the next table than my own group, which made it difficult to enjoy. The server was friendly but she seemed overworked. We had to ask for drinks multiple times. I really wanted to like this place. The area needs more high quality dining experiences. This wasn't it. My advice: up your game, give diners an amazing experience, don't just go through the motions. This was my second time at The Noble Lion. The food was bad. I had a shrimp appetizer that was inedible. The shrimp was so over cooked and bathing in a Buffalo sauce. At $3 per shrimp it was a waste of food and money. I had the halibut as my main course and it was also over cooked and tough. The beurre blanc sauce was thin and watery. It had all the flavor of watered down melted butter. I did enjoy the Bitburger beer. Overall, I won't return and you should save yourself the trip. read more

The Roasted Cauliflower Soup may not sound overly exciting, but I daydream about it occasionally - please keep it around until I can make it back!! I admittedly tried a curious array of items. Fried cauliflower (when done right, one of my new favorite items), Gouda curds and a creamed corn. The corn was outstanding, cauliflower fell flat and the Gouda curds would have been better if they had a better batter. At $1.25 a Gouda bite with lackluster flare, I'd spend my money on something more flavorful next time. I have been spoiled with delicious versions of buffalo cauliflower in Minneapolis and typically love it. In this case the batter was bland and the dipping sauce was uninspired.
