My wife and I drive more than 20,000 miles a year -- writing a food blog, exploring America's corners -- and all we ever ask is that whoever is serving us try to be as glad to see us as we are to see them. We call it "playing the game"-- as in, making the effort to find common ground between consumer and server. Even faking it. But if you don't like your job, it seems as if there are plenty of others out there in this field right now, so if you don't like working for this food truck, why not find one you _do_ like working for? (Asking for a friend). In our experience, over many years, Charleston is simply one of the top-five friendly towns in the land. I am obviously not alone in this: the city is just flat-out pleasant to be in, whether you're buying a lottery ticket in a barred-window bodega in a random No. Charleston nabe or forking up the serious bucks down on King Street. In fact, right before our visit to this truck, we'd dropped in on a seafood store and weren't surprised to be greeted by, "Hey, how ya doin," as we walked in; within two minutes my wife and one of the staff were trading stories about New York, Ireland and men. We've been here two weeks so far, and literally not once have we not felt welcomed by any establishment -- until today. Maybe the dude was having a bad day. Maybe he'd had surgery that prevented his mouth from forming a smile. Maybe he just really hates his job, and we all know retail can be hell. Especially on a super hot day. But if "He made us feel welcome" was a one to ten, this guy's vibe was a one. Another worker was wandering in and out of the truck, never glanced at us. Was it our masks? Our age? We'll never know,. Meanwhile: The lamb patty in the gyro was _sort_ of lamb-ish, but thick, not thinly sliced, and its taste had clearly been sapped by the way it had been cooked. I'm guessing the chef here knows how to serve the lamb -- up north, the meat is usually thinly sliced -- but no matter the thickness, you have to know how to cook it to maximum effect, no?. The tomato, though was real! But: These were not French fries. They were "Riced-potato sticks deep-fried in oil whose taste lingered way too long" (real French fries are not made up of riced potato meat, which I can only assume they use because it cuts costs by having less potato and more whatever it is that binds the riced stuff)...not to mention the salt factor: Yes, they were advertised as "sea-salted," but not as "rolled in seal-salt." Sorry to be so mean. Other reviewers had great experiences, although it seems many ordered in advance, and maybe didn't have to experience any in-person issues? Anyway: We never write about a place on our blog unless we love it. So needless to say, this truck will hereafter go unmentioned by us.But seriously: How hard is it, when people who show up to enjoy your food, to be...friendly? Welcoming? This place is the best. After a long night of cutting some rug and when your three sheets to the wind, there is nothing more craveable than a gyro. I found myself standing amongst all the splendor that is the blue food truck Platia this weekend. However, it was a bit nippy out, and even all the Miller high life's in my system couldn't keep me warm. The fantastic staff of Platia offered me the shotgun spot to wait for my order without feeling that oh so cold February evening air. Armed with my gyro, I pranced home and enjoyed it in the warmth of my house, and I will never forget the spectacular level of service that night. We hired them for a private party and they showed up late and then the propane tank didn't work, so they were unable to cook for the 150 guests we had. We didn't have other food arrangements and it was a mess! The whole experience was very frustrating and we were extremely disappointed. The worst part was that they made a million excuses and didn't take ownership. They begrudgingly agreed to do a private party to make up for their mistakes, but never followed through. That said, I've had their food before and it's delicious. We have been to multiple parties where they provided the food, which is why we wanted to use them. No one else that we know of has had this experience. We are reasonable people, however, and their customer service and lack of ownership were hugely upsetting. Was lucky enough to eat at this truck during a concert at riverfront park. I got a Gyro with lamb. When it first came out and had French fries on it I was a little hesitant, thinking not traditional. But hell I'll try anything and this was deliciousness! The fries with the tzatziki was the best part. Not sure what kind of flavoring they put on there but it is the bomb! Only complaint was it was a little messy and a little runny, but not sure how you would prevent that when it is a million degrees outside. Would definitely try this place again! read more

First day trying this unique and tasty food truck. I walk out of my office and feel as though I might be walking down around Athens. I see a big shiny food truck with a gorgeous mural of Greece on the side. The men inside are equally as gorgeous and look straight from the boat. The menu is expansive with varied main dishes, snacks, desserts, and drinks. I started with the hummus and sounds boring, but the pita wedges were seasones and griddle fried perfectly. Im so pleased with the greek yogurt choices!! You get a fruit flavor or frusta fruit add in, nuts, chocolate, seeds, and so many healthy sweeteners like honey and granola. The cherry on top was the iced frappe. The barista told me they were out if simple syrup and I was the very first person to have a frappe sweetened with just honey. I don't ever think I'll get it any other way. I cant wait to have these guys back in my office park :) read more

Best Greek food I've had anywhere. They knocked my socks off with the lamb gyro and the fresh squeezed lemonade was so refreshing. They blare Mediterranean music on speakers outside of their truck - fantastic advertising. I swear at least a quarter of the people in the apartments they were parked in front of came down to get food from them simply because they were wondering where the music was coming from. Just had a meal at Platia food truck, and there's no question that I will be back. One of it's regular locations is on a quiet side street just around the corner from the hustle and bustle of King St, so it's easy to find. The Greek music and the tables and chairs in front of the truck make you feel like you are in Greece. I had a chicken gyro- well portioned and delicious. The star system is limited as I need to add more stars to this establishment! Friendly, fantastic outdoor (very outdoor mind you) atmosphere, great music, sometimes blaring! What is more blaring is the quality of their food that you crave especially while walking around at night, or even very late night! The food is always great at Platia. My personal favorite is the Hillybilly. However, waiting over 45 minutes is pretty ridiculous, especially when you're on your lunch break. They should at least warn you upfront that they are backed up. 5 for quality of food, 1 for service. read more

We stopped by this food truck after playing a show nearby. This spot is amazing. Between the four of us we had lamb gyros, beef sausages and hot dogs. Platia is my favorite food truck. I've even driven to the office on a day I was working from home just so I could grab lunch from them. Their falafel pitas are amazing and their fries are perfect. Unfortunately, they've shown up a few times without falafel (why?!), so on those occasions I've gotten the village salad (cucumber, tomato, onion, olive, oil and spices), which is also good, when they make the effort to prepare it well--I've gotten salads with barely chopped ingredients and globs of oil pooled in spots. I ordered a yogurt from them once, and it was wonderful, too. I can't speak to any of their other menu items because I don't eat meat, but my husband always makes it a point to come to eat lunch with me on the days Platia is here because he loves the Hillybilly. read more

I did not enjoy their Greek food. I ordered the pork souvlaki and Greek fries. However, I was served feta fries instead of Greek fries. The pork souvlaki had good flavor but was dry. My husband and I have been big fans of Platia for a few years, and they just keep getting better. The food is incredibly fresh and delicious, and the customer service is incredible. We recently had a baby and placed a delivery order through Seamless/GrubHub. We were quoted a 60 minute wait time and tracked the driver as she was on her way. Everything was looking good until she kept going in the wrong direction and our delivery time kept getting pushed back. Two hours later, and no response from the driver - we were very hungry, frustrated and tired. We called GrubHub but they couldn't do much for us... so we called Platia to see if they could help The owner was more than understanding, and decided to place a new order and pay for it out of his own pocket, to be immediately picked up and delivered to us via DoorDash. It even somehow tasted a bit better than usual - must have been the extra compassion and generosity! read more

My girlfriend and I had lunch at Platia on Folly Beach today. I've traveled to Greece before and this is as authentic as it gets! I had the lamb which was cooked perfectly and delicious. I highly recommend the Village Salad as an appetizer, this is something you see on every table in Greece, but is often forgotten here in favor of the typical "Greek Salad". Got a chicken gyro when they were parked at the MUSC horseshoe. Was not impressed. It took 30 minutes from ordering to receiving my sandwich. In busy hospital land, this is not cool. I wish I had some warning about how backed up they were. There were multiple food trucks in the area so I had no idea who was waiting for what truck. Regardless, I don't mind waiting a little while for stellar food but this was mediocre. The chicken had gristle, the French fries on top were cold and soggy and it all lacked the most vital and easiest flavor profile-salt. The pita was fresh and the tzatzki was good but not enough to rescue the experience. I see many good reviews are posted from when this truck is parked late night. The wait time is probably quicker, the quality may be better, and post-King street debauchery makes everything taste better, right? read more

Never in my life have I ever waited 45 min for food truck food when half my order was out within 10 minutes. When I approached them about my food (which was fish) I asked for a refund. Instead they gave me the cold meal, telling me "it's fine". Again I asked for a refund. Again they refused telling me it wasn't their problem. Ordered our food, and 20 minutes later half of it was finished. I asked about the other order and the guy who took the order said he screwed up the ticket and the other half would be done soon. After an additional 30 minute wait, I went to check and was told it had been ready the whole time and he repeatedly called my name but I never showed up. I was right next to the window so I know this wasn't true. Since it was cold fish, I asked for a refund. He refused and said it was fine to eat. As I was walking away, he said "have a great f'in day" and I turned back around and he said, "oh I said have a great day." As I turned around to walk off, he again called out an "F you". Completely unprofessional. Still can't comment on the quality of the food since I had to trash it, but the "sweet tea" had a quarter inch of undissolved sugar at the bottom. read more
