They're behind the government building (where you go to pay your car taxes) and across the street from the Piggly wiggly in downtown Summerville. Derek's is tucked in behind Coastal Produce. Coworkers kept bringing these delicious sandwiches in so I had to stop in for myself. I've had their Rueben before....delicious! Plus I've seen coworkers eating the club and it looks amazing. I ordered the Gyro today. It comes with a choice of side...I got potato salad. Potato salad was nice and creamy with a bit of a mustard flavor. The Gyro had tons of meat tucked into a soft pita. They also give you lots of taziki sauce to pour on and dip in. There are several picnic tables in the shade where you can eat outside or take your food with you. Definitely a hidden gem that only locals seem to know about. read more

We stopped by here on our way into Summerville for a work trip. The building ain't much but the gyro was phenomenal. It was packed with meat and toppings and the tzatziki was delicious as well. There weren't many sides to choose from so we picked potato salad. It was tasty and you get a pineapple slice with cinnamon to finish off the meal. It wasn't too cold outside so we opted to sit at a picnic table in the sunshine since we were tired of being in the car. 10/10 recommend to anyone wanting a good gyro or sandwich! read more

This surprised the heck out of me. Summerville has no shortage of amazing dining, but to find a top-notch gyro in the back of a farm stand? Didn't have that on my bingo card. This spot is tucked away on the side of central market. Been there for just about a year now and wondering why I never ate there before . So, I was driving by and had to check it out because we only have two Greek restaurants here in Summerville. This place was fantastic and the gyro was huge! Very flavorful and plentiful tzatziki sauce on it. I think it weighed about 1/2 pound! The coleslaw is homemade and comes with it or chips. Derek who owns and runs the place is a very nice fellow and knows how to make one of the best gyros in town. Definitely got a new customer here! read more

I've been in Summerville for over ten years and had no idea Derek's was around, but SO glad I do now! They are incredibly friendly and helpful, which is only topped by the great food. RUN... don't walk to this place!!! Gyro was AMAZING! This was my first visit and will now be going into my top faves list. The Gyro was delicious. Meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. It was also huge! I couldn't even eat it all. The small bite I took of my side of potato salad was also delish but I couldn't finish it either. Ordering was easy. Called and placed over the phone to pick up (15 min). The lady (owner?) was extremely friendly and even made placing my order enjoyable - her friendliness is contagious! This is such a hidden gem! As if Derek's gyros weren't the best around, wait till you try his Cuban sandwich! All I can say is that I have NEVER had a better Cuban in my life. Well worth the drive. Each sandwich is made while you wait, and it's well worth the wait. You won't be disappointed, I promise. (And while you are waiting, you would be well served to ask for a cup of his vegetable soup. Delicious!) We live in Manning, and Derek's is always on the To Do list when we visit Summerville or Charleston. Just go around behind Coastal Produce, and you'll see his window. I was picking up some fresh produce at the front of a farmer's market in downtown Summerville and noticed this little window on the side with people hanging around outside, all peering in from a short distance. I saw the sign and thought I might check it out later. I wish I had not waited so long. I called in an order after finding it online and was greeted by a warm voice who graciously thanked me for my order and gave me a time frame of fifteen minutes for pick up. When I arrived, there were some waiting ahead of me and some eating together at a picnic table in the great outdoors. When my turn came, less than fifteen minutes from my phone call, my order was ready. I took it to go and headed out to do some fishing. I got to my fishing spot and decided to take a bite first before giving the fish a chance to bite. WOW! The Cuban I ordered was big enough for a meal for two. Each bite was slightly different as the condiments varied slightly in their placement. The mustard was fantastic, the meats tender and delicious. The bread was toasted to perfection. I chose the potato salad and it was great with dill and with the skins on, which I like. There was a dipping condiment that added to the culinary experience and gave the sandwich even more variety. It took awhile to get the whole meal down, and I can't wait to try something else from there. I see they are open Tuesday through Saturday, and apparently just for lunch. But food of this caliber has to take a lot of prep time, so I understand it being just a lunch place. Derek and his wife were very nice, amiable, and made sure I felt very special. So my wife is telling me about a new place to eat that she read about in the Summerville paper called Derek's. It's a walk-up window on the side of the local produce stand and they are cooking great food!! I had the gyro and my wife had the Cuban sandwich. Both were delicious and huge, well worth the price.
