Cold and dark inside so bring a jacket and jacket and you might have to use your phone as a flashlight to read the menu. Mofongo This is one of Puerto Rico's national dishes - Mashed plantain mix of green and sweet plantains and cassava. Added overcooked and dried out Carne Frita (fried pork) on the top. Nuestro chillo de la casa con arroz guisa'o House red snapper with Platos seasoned rice. Very flavorful and a good sized fish - there is a 1 and 3 pound option. I did think there were a lot of bones to have to navigate around. Service is good not great. For some reason, there is a bottle of wine on top of every table. That's all...
Platos has some amazing authentic Puerto Rican food and it made me so happy! I love good food and you can tell the chef made everything with love. The service was great, and our food came out in a timely manner. Lots of seating and it was clean! Plenty of space for big parties or date night. If you're in the area this is some of the best food I had while in San Juan! Check them out, the food did not disappoint!
It was mid afternoon and only a couple of tables were occupied. The food was good. My complaint is I ordered the seafood salad. It listed lobster and conch fish in it along with shrimp and octopus. I had been preoccupied chatting with my partner while eating when I realized mid-meal that the salad mix only consisted of shrimp and octopus. For the hefty price, I didn't think it was worth it. If they were out of those ingredients, they just could've informed me and I would've ordered something else instead. I'm not a fan of returning things or complaining at all restaurant. Too afraid of what the kitchen does to complainer's food after that. Won't be going back given there are a lot of places to choose from to dine at in the area.
Okay service leaves a lot to be desired When I entered the empty restaurant mind you there 3 people seated at the tables It took about 5 mins for someone to greet me when I walked in and there were several employees just standing around doing nothing. Eventually a person that I guess was the hostess approaches me and I suppose her English wasn't good and when she asked me if I wanted to sit at the bar, I tell her I would like to sit at a table and she goes and gets a lady in a dress that I can only assume is the manager and she asks me the same question...and I respond I'd like to sit at the table. Strange interaction. Again 5-10 mins goes by before anyone comes to my table. I am again looking around the empty restaurant and eventually a waiter approaches the table... I ordered shrimp monfogo and rice. The waiter stated the rice had chicken sausage in it and I asked if it could be removed and he said yes. And yet it arrived to the table full of meat. The shrimp monfogo was gross. And overall the food tasted like it was made with hate. Service here sucked real bad from start to finish. The lackadaisical waiter that was taking my order brought my ticket and then had me walk to the back and pay what the actual curse word?? That was bizarre and the employee sitting at the register waited to finish her text message before accepting my payment. I left a 15% tip but truly he deserved nothing that was disservice with crappy food and a bunch of employees with a sunken disposition. Folks don't dine here. Bad service, bad vibes. There's too loud live music being performed by a strange man with a BAD wig.
Plato's was our first taste of San Juan nightlife after a long travel day, mostly because it was within walking distance from our apartment and we were exhausted. The ambiance felt a bit off, like the place was in transition. There was a sax player near the entrance who was talented but so loud it made it hard to hear each other. Service was okay, not great, and that pretty much matched the food and drinks -- fine, but nothing we'd come back for. The highlight was actually the hostess on our way out, who was fun and funny. Overall, the experience didn't feel worth the price. Two meals and four drinks came out to over $100, and it felt more like a $50 experience.
This was my first time trying Monfongo and I got to do it in Puerto Rico! It was delicioso!! I wasn't sure what to expect but they did not disappoint. I'm excited to try it with shrimp next time. The service was ok as there was only me and a few others at the time. The Queso Frita was good. I had that before but this was a bit different. Not the best but not the worst..Meh. Overall great experience and a great meal.
The service and the ambiance was nice but when it came to the dinner and appetizers very disappointing. The bacalaito with the imitation crabmeat was disappointing the fritters seemed to be pre made and then reheated, I had a Mofongo to the waitress advice it was no green plantain so I guess I can blame myself for choosing it. My wife had white rice with beans and the beans had absolutely no flavor and was very runny , no substance no flavor. It was as of the opened the can and just heated with no seasoning then the fried pork was awful it had no seasoning either. Not sure but would not go back to this place again.
Platos is a solid choice for Puerto Rican cuisine in Isla Verde if you're looking for flavorful local dishes, generous portions, and a relaxed tropical vibe with drinks. This was my first visit & it definitely won't be my last! The service was 10 stars (sorry forgot our servers name) foo came at a timely manner, he was very attentive. Zero complaints !
The monfongo here is a must have either the salsa criolla. The coconut sangria is amazing and after 1 I was already feeling it. The portions are big and filling. The happy hour they had $5 Jameson my finance had it with coconut water. Definitely a place worth checking out. Salsa music was playing and it was relaxing. We came with our baby and they were very attentive and accommodating, would come here again.
Was looking for an authentic place near by our Airbnb and decided to come here as I don't recall every eating here in all the times I've visited PR. We came human nd it was pretty empty, sat side right away and as wasn't too hungry I went with a side of rice and beans and some alcapurrias. Service was attentive and quick and my dishes were pretty good I was content. My boyfriend on the other hand was not happy with bis chicarron as he does like them a certain way and they were not made fried. He was disappointed and explained as they were more stew like. He did not finish the meal and would not really want to come back. Decent spot but overall not impressed.
This was a great establishment the food was delicious and fresh to order. The service was excellent attentive and welcoming. The ambiance was beautiful though on a busy street was full of art and decor that captures the feeling of being on an island . The only thing I kinda missed was some music to increase the vibe
We came in to this restaurant on a Friday evening because they had live music. The music was SO loud that our table of 6 had to scream to talk to each other. Our server was so pleasant, friendly, and quick to wait on us, but wasn't very fluent in Spanish. It wasn't an issue at all until our food started to show up and we couldn't figure out which plate went where. Also, two of the girls felt that they were brought something that they didn't order. I had the fried cheese with guava and the shrimp & garlic sauce plantains. Both of my food items were delicious, but I loved the fried cheese a little bit more. I also had the coconut sangria and that was delicious, as well. The presentation of both the food and drinks was beautiful. The bathroom was clean and stocked with soap and paper towels. read more

The place is big and very nice inside. I sat at the bar and ordered a margarita along with mofongo de yuca. Especially since I had heard many great things about that type of Mofongo. However, I was slightly disappointed. The margarita was tooooo strong and not pleasant. The mofongo would have been stellar if they put more criolla sauce. The service was decent considering I was sitting at the bar. read more
Tried Platos on our first night in Puerto Rico. The place was kinda divey looking on the inside, and the food was surprisingly pricey for what it was. The good news is that they had menus in Spanish and English, and very friendly staff. Generous portions depending on what you order. read more

Worst restaurant we've ever been to while visiting PR. Would give zero stars if possible. Food: worst churassco I've ever eaten: grizzly, flavorless, greasy, disgusting. None of the food had any flavor whatsoever. The drinks were awful, tried the "award winning" sangria and was unable to drink it. The service was beyond slow and unsatisfactory. A total dump. I asked for salt and pepper and after waiting nearly 15 minutes, was handed small plastic cups filled with S&P. I wish there was something good I could write about this place, but there isn't. I left as hungry as I walked in as everything was inedible. I really don't understand the positive reviews at all. read more
Our waiter raymond was excellent. The food was very tasty and nicely presented and served in a very reasonable amount of time. I would definitely go back. If you're looking for some authentic Puerto Rican food, this is a nice alternative to Metropole. read more

Great service and friendly staff. The menu is 6 pages long, so there is deff something for everyone. The beef in the pastelon was very salty, but the guandules were amazing. I ordered the maduro mofongo with mixed seafood in a garlic cream sauce and it was very well seasoned. I just wish this place stayed open a little later. They close at 10pm. read more
The people at our hotel recommended this restaurant and it was very good. We had to scan the QR code for the menu at the door and were seated right away. Our waitress was a nice girl and she helped us with questions we had about the menu. I loved everything but my main dish I wasn't a fan of the stuff chucked they had but still it was not bad, just not my thing. They didn't have coconut flan either but the waitress recommended the almond flan and it was great. Around the time we were leaving they had a lady singer coming out with a band so I did miss that but overall it was a good restaurant and nice staff. read more
The food tasted very authentic. It was warming and fulfilling. Everyone at my table left happy. We had a few people provide service and they were all very friendly. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but it quickly filled up. Arepas boricuas: It is an appetizer but I ate it as a meal with a side of rice. It was a lot for me. The arepas were soft yet lightly crispy. The meat and seasoning were on point. It was so good and I highly recommend. NOTE: I must mention that I discovered they overcharged me by about $20 when I looked at my credit card statement. My friends were charged correctly so it is possible the woman simply pressed the wrong number when charging my card on the machine and it was a harmless mistake. I disputed the charge with my bank, but make sure you get a receipt when dining to check the charge while you're there. read more

Amazing food!!! We came here with expectations for authentic Puerto Rican food and they did not disappoint. Service was amazing and our waiter was very informative about the bar and the menu. The food came out in reasonable time and was delicious. The building is gorgeous inside and out. The mural outside is what caught our attention to go in! We will definitely be dining here again. read more

Can can pork, cassava mofungo and cod fritters! In love with that meal. Pork had great flavor with a little chicharrones thing going. Cassava Moro info was better than mofungo. The code fritters weren't too fishy. Sauce was great. read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel concierge. Our server, Luis was extremely kind and was excited to tell us not only which dishes he recommended but also how much he loves his work. There was also incredible live music while we were there. I absolutely recommend this restaurant for families and groups of friends! read more

*TOURISTS BEWARE* We went into this restaurant because when walking by we saw what looked like locals with a nice plate of food. Well, it wasn't so great for us. We had questions for the waiter about the menu which indicates we aren't familiar with Spanish food. Long story short we ordered the Paella Can Can which was supposed to have chicken, beef and pork; what we got was a very, very small amount of beef, some chicken and a few big blobs of pork FAT. I asked the waiter "who is going to eat fat?" He literally started dancing over to the manager ... I think it was what he does when he gets nervous bc he did it every time I questioned him; the manager apologized and brought us back some dried up shoe leather they considered pork; this is not what I saw on some of the Spanish speaking people's plate. Needless to say we believe this is what they serve tourists they know are only showing up once. There were other unhygienic things that we observed the wait staff doing but we'll leave it at this. Walk past this place and there are a lot of other places that you can eat at that will want to make you satisfied with your experience. Sabado 3 de septiembre de 2022 nos fuimos de almuerzo con la compra de un Gustazo a probar suerte en este restaurante. Restaurante amplio y para la hora de almuerzo estaba vacío. Nuestro mesero fue Ralph y nos hizo las recomendaciones de bebida y de almuerzo. Conoce bien el menú y no se equivocó. Excelente la comidas y bebidas. El menú es extenso y variado. Si estás en el are se Isla Verde puedes ir ya sea almorzar o cenar. Tiene días de happy hour y de galería. Tienen estacionamiento debes de llamar para que te abran el portón si hay disponible. read more

This place is delicious staff is awesome very attentive very kind very welcoming and the food was just incredibly delicious taste was great !!!! Definitely recommend this place . and their drinks were also very good Had the mussels , skirt steak & rib eye and it was just full of flavor ! I gave it a 3 bc of the food. I was disappointed, this was not my 1st time here. I came here b4 like a yr ago and the food was great. I don't think we'll return. The staff were very friendly, host greeted us with a friendly Hello, but our sever seemed to be very abruptly, she didn't give us time to enjoy our drinks or pick at our appetizers which we didn't finish. She was kind of pushy even when we said to give us time. The place itself was nice, they had xmas music playing since it was the holiday. It gave it a nice feeling. read more

This was one of the most expensive and least satisfying meals we had while visiting Puerto Rico. I had the coconut sangria (which didn't come until after our food came) and it was so strong and didn't have an enjoyable flavor at all-literally couldn't finish it and I like sangria generally. The codfish croquettes were the best thing we had and the only thing I would consider reordering. The chicken mofongo was just ok-generally bland flavor. The paella was also just ok. My main issue was the vegetables, it randomly had broccoli, cauliflower, & carrots in it-I think they were just emptying the freezer! It really didn't compare to paella I've had in the US or in Spain. On a positive note, the staff seemed overall friendly. read more

This place is absolutely amazing ! I'm sure most of you know that I'm a cook as well as a foodie and food historian . I have to say that I absolutely hate that the Caribbean and Spanish influence never get any love back home in Louisiana . Some of the cuisines are very similar , just prepared with different spices. If you visit the island definitely check this place out . The only place I've had better pork is in New York . We're all definitely satisfied on this one ! # eatlocal read more
