This was my first time in the store and I brought about forty articles of clothing and shoes in hopes to get some cash before taking it to the thrift store to donate. I usually wear mid-range labels (AE, Guess, BR, etc). The stuff that I was donating was in amazing condition -- some things still had tags on them. Let me start by saying that PC is so picky about what they will buy from you. The girl who greeted me when I walked in (whose name I cannot remember) was pleasant. She explained to me that they buy the items for about 20-40% of the retails value. She then informed me that it would be about a 40 minute wait and that I could not leave the store during this time.
So, here I am for an hour. I had plenty of time to go through just about all of their inventory. I notice one of the girls sifting through my clothes and shoes about thirty-five minutes after I handed it over to them. I then see a girl come in and start to gossip to the girl who is going through my clothing. She drops what she is doing to walk away and talk about god knows what with this girl for about fifteen minutes...during this time, I was literally just standing and staring. To me, that's super unprofessional and rivals the annoyance one has when they wait in line at the DMV. Like, do you just not care about my business?
Once my name is finally called (an hour after I arrived), I notice that they have not accepted a lot of my items. They said it was due to it being over 18 months old, which is fine. Oddly enough, they took a pair of flats that are about five years old and had just never been worn...I thought that was bizarre. Being that I had to wait an hour for my name to be called, I had ample time to peruse their store. I can confidently say that I saw items that were faded, out of style, and just not even kind of cute. This perplexed me in regard to the items of mine that they chose not to purchase.
I was also a tad annoyed that I was offered 35 dollars for 19 items. Um, simple math can say that that's an average of almost two dollars per item. They say they offer you 20-40% of the retail value. They don't give you an itemized list. I think that's stupid. Like, I had a pair of $50 heels that had hardly been worn. What if I didn't want to accept whatever they wanted to give me for the shoes, but I did want to accept other offers? I had how it's all grouped together. I feel like it wasn't really a fair offer for the quality of things I was selling to them, but, I DID wait an entire hour and really didn't just want to walk out with it all.
I am giving Plato's Closet (at this location at least) two stars and that's solely for the organization of the store. Sizes, colors, and brands are well-organized. I am in my mid-20s and maybe this store is targeted more for a younger crowd? For shopping, it's definitely hit-or-miss. I wouldn't recommend selling to them. I will donate in the future. read more
