Ok I have been here many many many times and it's usually HORRIBLE!!! Very unorganized and RUDE staff of kids. I only kept coming back because of the prices for what you get. But I was there last Thursday and it was AWESOME! I think they have a new manager because she was whipping everyone into shape. She was organizing the floor, telling employees to get to work and help customers, polite to me and directed me to clothes on the floor for my size. The location is fine. Customer service is ok not the best but not bad either. The selection of clothing they have in store in awesome . Much to choose from for a low price. But I will say, when it comes to selling items to them they don't give you enough at all. It's almost insulting. if I could give zero stars, I would. they say they are selective about what they said, but you see some of the worst of clothes on the rack. You can bring in the best of the best and they say that they are not able to take it. Funny thing is this is the only Platos like that. This place was not good to be honest. Employees were very rude. Had a lot of nerve for shoe prices and clothes prices. Understaffed which is understandable but still. I came in there with a box full of clean barely worn or new shoes and said we cant take it in boxes or laundry baskets. Accepts them in garbage bags and or totes only. Extremely pissed after getting home from here. Made $32 bucks for selling a pair of boots and 2 pairs of jeans in excellent condition - that's fine. Got home and noticed 3 other brand new items that had never been worn, 1 item still had the tag on it, are not in my bag! The assistant manager took my clothes without paying me. Not to mention a friend of my works there and they told her to "watch out for the colored people, they're the ones who steal". Ridiculous! UPDATE: now the owner is harassing me leaving me voicemails because she's not happy about this review. She obviously can't read either because she mentioned "we don't even have any, as you say, colored people that work for us". Of course she doesn't - she's too afraid they'll steal. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION!!!!!! The employees are EXTREMELY RUDE AND IGNORANT. My boyfriend took brand new AND name brand items. I walked by a few items and the girl going through the clothes was quickly tossing the clothes back in the basket without even inspecting them. I assume they were too busy gossiping with eachother that they couldn't even focus on doing their job correctly. About 15 minutes later we went up and the girl said she had to pass on everything because it was out of style, old brands and stained. I was taken back since 1) I used to work at a Plato's location for three years and there was an abundant amount of times I would've taken. 2) Several of the items were brand new, with tags. 3) Many of the brands ranged from Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, American Eagle, and ETC. The (I assume manager) said that his clothing was stained and that maybe he should try a new deodorant. She said his body must be rejecting his current deodorant. Meanwhile, there was several people in line behind us. HOW INSULTING. The fact that you would turn away brand new named items (tags attached) and tell someone their deodorant isn't working for them? The lady behind the counter was bossy when I came in when she instructed me to put my items in a bin & loudly criticized EVERY item I brought, embarrassed me in front of everyone there, and even said "You need to clean out your closet more often!" This place is just a dumping ground for the extreme clearance items from five seasons ago that couldn't sell at Target and Hollister. They also sell items that they bought from individuals who wanted to rid their closets of things they haven't worn since 2003. I spent a while going through the racks of clothing piece by piece looking for something worthwhile, but came up empty handed. Everything was really over-priced, in poor condition, and incredibly outdated. If I ever come across a time machine, travel ten years into the past, and need an outfit that looks like it was washed about a hundred times to wear to a Sugar Ray concert, I'll head straight to Plato's closet. read more

Comically immature, snobbish, ditzy, teenie bop, smacking her lips environment. It was great. It was everything I thought it would be based on the reviews. When you get there with your box of items, a girl looks at you like "do you not know what your supposed to do?" Nope. Sure don't. Glad to know you know what your doing as a clerk though. "Put the box over there" as she turns 3 degrees to haphazardly point in a general area that is 90 degrees behind her. So you take your little box and try to locate this area she couldn't manage to point to. "The counter?" "No right here." Points to the ground. There is a bin next to the area she points to. "You mean the bin?" I decided not to check for the obligatory eye roll. "Yes". They have you fill out a form. Tell you the box is next. I pretend to shop. 2nd teenie bop comes around gossiping about perfume. They stand around chit chatting about all the things you imagine these girls chit chat about all day. She finally gets to my box. Slams it on the counter and LITERALLY THROWS the clothes around. So much so she threw a shoe out the box and onto the floor in her haste. She finished checking the box in 4.5 seconds. Checking the box means she flung clothes around and threw them back into a heap and said nope. No one comes to let me know the 15 minute wait has now been reduced to 4.5 seconds. I'm looking through endless aisle of Pink merchandise. It literally never ends. Did VS file bankruptcy or something? I make my way back to the counter. Where I'm ignored. That's ok. I'm really just here to see if the rumors are true. They are. Different girl finally approaches me. Makes some kind of random note on my paperwork and tells me nothing is being accepted as it's too old and they are overstocked. This is what I expected her to say. First, the items aren't old. Last I checked, Miss Me jeans (by the Buckle) are still very much in business. And still very much selling $100+ jeans. I also threw in a shirt I just bought THAT DAY from Forever 21. I was going to take it back if they offered to buy my $35 shirt for $.35 cents. It was just a test. But whatever. They apparently feel the need to say SOMETHING. Their second excuse, which is actually true, is more sufficient. They are over stocked. Way over stocked. So instead of just letting people know that they really aren't buying anymore, they say things like "it's too old". And they hire annoying little girls to pretend to throw your crap around in a box. Why? It gets people in the store. It's a potential sale. Which is why they say 15 minute wait when it takes 4.5 seconds. Beyond the extremely annoying staff, a place that advertises they buy when they don't and endless seas of Pink merchandise, they had other cute things. It's a place where a normal teenage girl/20something could find decent clothes and not pay out the nose. It's certainly not some high end resale shop. It's 95% VS and forever 21. Those are not high end. They are name brand. So it's a step above Goodwill and quite a step below high end. But don't let those girls know that you know that. The older woman that works here is rude and obnoxious. She loudly told me I need to "not bother bringing in any clothes that aren't high quality". Jfc lady it's a resale shop, what do you want from me? I also heard her berating another girl for bringing in clothes that she previously took to the Valpo location. They took two pairs of shoes for 9$. BY THE WAY. The Valpo location always takes more clothes and gives more money than the Merrillville, and they're MUCH friendlier. I have been in the retail industry for 10 years. I go to the store in Valpo most of the time. Every time I go the people there are very nice. They are always telling me to bring my stuff to sell to them and I decided to give it a try. My mistake was that I took my things to Merrillville. The staff was rude. She told me she would not take any of my stuff because was outdated. Okay I understand it what I don't understand is why she bough similar items from a white girl and hers was not outdated. I saw a lady there as well who was also a minority putting her things away. I asked her and they gave her the same reason as to why they couldn't buy the items from her. I would never ever return to this store and I would stop anyone I know from going there. They just lost a client that could have been a good fit as I am designing my own clothing line. read more

The clothes I tried to sell were bought within the past 4 months (I just cannot fit them anymore) and yet they said the clothes were old and worn. I loved this place. I ran into it by accident never even heard of it. I normally dont do name brands but at these prices you can totally afford it. These are gently used name brand clothes rediculously affordable. If you are on the larger side there isnt a large selection that goes for males as well and it doenst take much for the guy to get too big for the already minimal selection. There are other locations this is just the one I ran into and know about so m review may not apply to hem keep that in mind. Basically everything is VS Pink. I definitely recommend going to Valpos store. The workers there are great! Also I thought the they were pretty high compared to Valpo. I am a little surprised by the negative reviews, although they all appear to be older reviews. I live in Fort Lauderdale and I was in Merriville for work. I happened to be eating nearby and noticed that there was a Plato's closet. I have one near to my house where I live so I figured what the heck I would check it out to compare. I was pleasantly surprised, the store was well organized and they had a great selection. I found a great dress, a few graphic tanks and some gorgeous coach bags in mint condition (I was so excited), I have NEVER seen Coach bags in the store by my house lol!! The owner was super helpful and she assisted me in searching around for dresses of a certain brand that I found that I really liked. I would definitely recommend checking this store out if you are in the area. read more

Seriously done with this location. Some employees can be nice others gossip and don't pay attention. It definitely feels as if what is accepted goes by who's sorting based on their tastes. There's so many questionable items in there that are being sold. When I bring stuff in again based on who's sorting will determine how much is taken. I've given so many chances, but today was just enough. I brought in items that were gently used and they only took 3 items giving me $7. I know how the computer process works, but 1 shirt they took still had tags showing it was $28 bought new. The other items they said were past the 2 year style when 1 shirt was from a Netflix series going on right now and another for a big movie that came out this summer along with a fall jumper I had just bought about a month ago that has a waitlist for online. Along with Victoria secret leggings like??...I'm not saying I always have great things, but today I went through everything I was bringing to make sure it was good for them to only take 3 and to me make an excuse not to accept the other stuff. I'd rather just make the extra driving distance to valpo at this point and sell/buy from them. read more

First off, let me start by saying I love Plato's closets except for this one. I used to shop here frequently until my bad experience with the manager/owner. The manager/owner doesn't have any type of customer service skills whatsoever. I brought some items from here and gave the cashier my 15% off customer appreciation card that this location gives their customers. I noticed after I left the store that the cashier didn't take 15% off my items because it wasn't on the receipt. I spoke with the store manager/owner about it to see how this situation can be corrected. She tells me the 15% customer appreciation card is not in their computer system when I gave her some numbers she asked for off of the receipt. Duh!!!!! The 15% is not listed on my receipt because the cashier didn't put it in the computer system. She then proceeds to tell me it's not showing up so we can't do anything. I then ask her to check her security cameras because I gave her cashier the 15% off customer appreciation card at the time of purchase. She pauses for a moment and says it's not in our computer system so we can't do anything. Besides, it only would have been a $1-$3 discount based on the items you purchased. The answer she gave me showed me that she truly doesn't care anything about her customers and only cares about making money off of them. The discount isn't huge, but the fact of the matter is the store manager/owner offers a 15% discount if customers get twenty stamps on their customer appreciation card that she didn't follow through on. The stamps are earned for every $10 in apparel you buy or sell. Obviously, I was a frequent customer there to earn the stamps. Things I noticed when I shopped here are: All the clothing brands from The Buckle are ridiculously over priced to be used. I've been to very high end consignment shops and brought way cheaper clothing from The Buckle. Buyers Beware! You're better off to buy from The Buckle themselves or find a very high end consignment shop. At least it will be brand new without strings coming apart at the bottoms of some of the BKE jeans or Miss Me Jeans and no fading on some of the Sinful and Affliction shirts if you buy brand new from The Buckle. Also, if the strings are coming apart on the bottoms of the BKE or Miss Me jeans and there is fading on some Affliction and Sinful shirts it will be cheaper and realistically priced to be used at a higher end consignment shop. Watch out for the as is tags listed on some of the Buckle clothing brands here. The item has something wrong with it, but it's priced like it's brand new from The Buckle. A tell tale sign the items from The Buckle are overpriced is because I would see the same items every time I did come in there to shop. I just wished the store manager/owner would have handled the situation with a customer service, understanding, and emphatic attitude instead of being rude, nasty, impatient, and money hungry. I would never be a customer here again after this horrible experience and I told all my friends, family, business associates, colleagues, and social networks about my experience here. The word of advice I give to customers who shop here is to watch the cashier to make sure you're given the 15% discount from your customer appreciation card, look at your receipt before you leave, don't buy any of The Buckle clothing here, and look out for those AS IS TAGS. read more

I will never go back to this place. The first time I was here, I was selling clothes. I had two huge bags full, they offered me a ridiculous amount, and we're extremely rude to me. The employees are complete snobs and need to realize they are working in a second hand store- stop acting like you're better than your customers! Despite the way I was treated, I went back one more time. The counter girl greeted everyone but me. They were having this "big sale" where everyone was going through boxes on the floor. If you are older and heavier this is not the resale shop for you. Its aimed towards teens and anyone a size 9 and smaller. Guys .... there really isn't anything for you but maybe a t-shirt or polo 3 sizes too small. Since i am smaller i was able to find a few things for myself but my friend is just a tad bigger on top and she didn't have any luck at all. I do think they need to maybe cut down on the staff all they do is stand around and talk by the dressing rooms. As far as price goes a little high yet still reasonable.
