Plato's is not your typical clothing resale shop like, say, Salvation Army. It is a bit more upscale with more trendy clothing for teens and early 20's. We stop in 3 or 4 times a year with our 20 something kids when they are home from college and they love the prices and the selection. They frequently come home from Plato's with bags of clothing--cents on the dollar--including dress shoes, khakis, jeans, dresses, belts, jewelry, and coats. I recently brought a large batch of clothing to Plato's Closet Schaumburg for evaluation. Every item was freshly washed, neatly folded, and presented in excellent condition. When my items were returned to me, they had been thrown back into my bag in a tangled pile, resulting in wrinkled clothing and unnecessary wear. The attached photo speaks for itself. What was even more disappointing was the response I received when I called to discuss the issue. Rather than acknowledging the concern or offering a sincere apology, the manager responded sarcastically by asking what I expected them to do differently in the future. For a business that relies entirely on customers bringing in quality inventory, this level of disrespect and lack of professionalism is astonishing. Preparing clothing for resale takes time, effort, and money. I spent my own resources washing, drying, folding, and transporting these items, only to have them returned in worse condition than when they arrived. Now I get to spend part of my day re-washing, re-drying, and re-folding everything because basic care and courtesy were apparently too much to ask. I understand that not every item will be purchased. That's not the issue. The issue is how customers' property is treated and how concerns are handled when they are raised. The condition in which my belongings were returned, combined with the dismissive attitude from management, has ensured that I will never return to this location. First off, not 1 2 but THREE employees were non stop talking to eachother and looked at me like i had 3 heads when i asked a question about THEIR ID scanner machine that was not properly working... with her actively seeing me confused and not giving help. next I gave a insane bag with Lululemon and vintage rare items and they took 2 items and gave me a 10 hour wait time. you cannot make ts up. I've been going to this Plato's Closet in Schaumburg for YEARS. Shoutout to Trinidad who's been there ever since I started going - he's always so great when I stop by the store! First off, Plato's Closet is a store where you can sell your gently used clothing items. It's a very easy process - you go in there, drop off your bag of clothes, sign in on a tablet-like machine (make sure you have your ID), a ticket gets printed out, and you come back when they're done sorting your items with your ticket. You can mark on the little machine when you sign in to be texted when they're done (I always do). In my experience, it could be as fast as 5 minutes or as long as 2 hours. They'll tell you an estimate of how long it'll be! They take items that are gently used and still in style. There have been (very minimal) times where they have taken nothing from the clothes I brought, and there were 2 times where they have taken everything. On average they definitely take at least a few items depending how used and in-style your clothes are. Something that should definitely be known is that they will not offer a lot of money for your clothes. Don't come here and expect to make big bucks - the most I've ever made was around $60 and it was a big bag of clothes that were fairly new, some never worn. Sometimes I don't understand how the process works because I'd bring in some new, nice items that didn't get taken but I see in the store there's items in worse condition, so I never really understand how they make their decision and price the items. Overall, this is an easy and quick way to get rid of some of your clothes that you just don't like or wear anymore and make some money from it! read more

Don't even bother trying to sell here. The little girls at the counter didn't even look thru all of my clothes. I had 2 ginormous bags, no way they looked thru it all in 30 min. Most of the stuff in my bag was still neatly folded, and what they did look thru they just messily shoved back at me. They passed on so much name brand good condition items and offered me $14. This place is god awful. I neatly folded all of my clothes and put them nicely in my bags. They rolled everything up in a ball and shoved it back in. To make it worse I drove 30 extra minutes since I had such a positive experience at this location last time. I paid $118 for a sweater they offered me $3 new with tags. This place is a joke. The unfriendly and rude staff makes shopping here a dread. Have been coming here for years, and in the last couple years it's gone off. Went earlier this week, lady at the fitting room made me feel like I was inconveniencing her by asking to try on clothes. Selling here is a joke. They never looked at any of my items only a pair of gym shoes that were at the bottom of my bin. They passed up all my daughters Free People and my sons carhart shirts and jeans among just a few name brands. All gently used from 1-2 years. I have to blame this location on their service. I don't love the Plato's Closet corporate motto in general but I liked that they were more clear before. Now this location doesn't even provide a trend list. I was told no sports hats (e.g. Cubs baseball cap) and then I find multiple being sold. I asked about it and was told it was a mistake but they still don't want my brand new Cubs hats. They say they wanted my 5 year old Vans and not my 1 year old Vans even though they said they only buy within the past 2 years. Trends come and go but Plato's new policy at this store of keeping you guessing is crazy. I still think it is a great option to purchase if you can find your size. However I always feel like the employees aren't even trying to help you here. It seems like they hire unprofessional children who have no ability to follow corporate policy and just buy clothes based on their personal preferences. There needs to be more consistency. Other locations do it better. Go there. I prefer Vernon Hills (if it is still open) and Bloomingdale. The value is just not there for this location in Schaumburg. If you're a parent to teenagers, Plato's Closet is paradise. With the quickly changing fashion trends, you can stop worrying about that $60 pair of jeans your kid begged you to purchase, knowing too darn well those jeans would sit in their closet. I'm a parent to twin teenage boys who destroy all of their clothes and experiment with fashion trends that are totally wrong for them (they're boys!). We typically like to shake their wardrobe up with fast fashion t-shirts mixed in with a few fun options that they get to pick out. That's why I'm so glad my son actually told me about Plato's Closet. On the day we spent a pretty penny at one of his favorite shops, we also saved a ton by shopping at Plato's. And, he was equally as happy. Boom! I love the name, because when we stopped in, it really was like walking into someone's giant closet. There was stuff all over the place, organized by boys/men and girls/women. Shoes were sprinkled throughout, and other little fun surprises. There was even a hat wall. And, no, I didn't let my kid buy the Coors hat he wanted. What??? The prices are fantastic. Everything was in very good used condition. We didn't see anything over $20 in the men's section. And, they carry all kinds of designer jeans and sweatpants. My son ended up with a really cool pair of Levi jeans for $12 in excellent condition. Score! He even got to try them on. Shopping at Plato's was easy and fun. It was very clean, and the cashier was super duper helpful and friendly. They also have a large parking lot. They are remodeling the store April 18-23. I think they should consider rethinking all that florescent lighting ;-) We'll be back for sure with son #2. Can't wait! read more

And I can drop the clothes off and come back when they text me it's ready for pickup. They don't do that here you have to wait in store which can be over an hour ridiculous. And they put a paper sign up on the door saying they are going to stop reviewing clothes for selling at 7pm. So when I told the girl I'll come back later she didn't even give me that disclaimer???? The staff here work quickly and efficiently and are always so nice. I'm sure they get slammed from time to time, especially when people do their spring cleaning and declutter. No matter how many buybacks they have to process, they are always so genial! The store is also tidy and organized. You don't get top dollar here but it's a nice option for a little cash back if you have some nice clothes that you just don't happen to wear. I've been to every single Platos in the area, Batavia, Glendale Heights, Naperville and Schaumburg and this is by far the best one. Every single person that worked there was extremely nice, and they also had the biggest selection I've seen at a Plato's. I got about four Lululemon items that were all in great condition and super trendy and a ton of summer dresses, jeans and T-shirts. They also have a great men's section. As a seller: I may be dating my age here but, one would think one would make more money selling one of a kind/ vintage items. They only take Abercrombie, forever 22 ish pre teen to teen items. But the only take items as old as one or two seasons. I'm sure it's not this locations fault. It is a chain. They don't offer good money for the ones they do buy from you. left my shoes and clotes with them but end up taking them back because they wanted to pay me funny money for them. I decided to donate. I admit it took me about a month to fi d some time to go to donation center but I noticed few pairs of my shoes are missing. I had this bag in my car this whole month. And I am 1000% sure they were in a bag when I drop it off at PC. I called them and lwt them know I never got my shoes back, I gave them a time and a date when I came to their location to drop of my bag but they can check it out anyway as everythingis in their system. So yesterday I scored $205.30 from the Plato's Closet in Rockford and decided that I'd give the rejected stuff a shot at the Schaumburg location today. Result: $80 more dolla bills in my pocket, homie! Even though this was a different location, it felt sooo good to get that cash for stuff that was initially rejected by the same company less than 24 hours before. I really felt like I was sticking in to them and kind of reminded me of that part in Fight Club where they steal all the thrown out fat from a liposuction center and then use it to make high-end soap and sell it for $20 a bar soap to upscale department stores. I think the quote is something like, "It was beautiful. We were selling rich women their own fat asses back to them." I guess what happened with me isn't like fight club at all since it was still my stuff that I was trying to sell, but I'm still going to pretend like what I did was some real covert ops ish by selling the stuff they didn't want right back to them. Overall, I think this location is super picky with their stuff so you def need to use my trick about dressing up (see Rockford review) if you want to get better buys for your stuff. They def judge a book by it's cover, so if you go in looking all junky, they'll assume your stuff is junky and pass a lot of it over. This location is just okay. It always seemed pretty big until I'd gone to the Rockford location, which is infinitely nicer and much, much bigger. It also strange about a lot of the stuff they do take, which is basically anything with a Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, Gilly Hicks... or whatever those brands are that I'm too developed to fit into. A lot of the items they carry from these brands are dingy as heck and pilled and shrunken almost into nonexistence, but I guess they're still pretty big hits here. One important thing to know about coming here is that it's geared towards teens, so you can't bring more mature looking clothing here and expect it to sell. If you've got stuff from Talbots, Kohls, or even Old Navy, you need to go across the street to Clothes Mentor where they're geared toward an older crowd. Sizing is also a factor to take in to account. Clothes Mentor loves larger sizes, Plato's Closet... not so much. They do have some larger sized items in the store, but if you're selling, it's been my experience that clothing from sizes 0-3 are big hits here. They do have a decent-sized guys section here that carries some pretty nice stuff, so this isn't just for the ladies, though my experience here has been restricted to just my own lady items. If you don't mind taking half a day to peruse racks galore, then this color-organized store is worth checking out. Yes, the clothes tent to be a bit teeny-bopperish. And yes, they're also inexpensive! I found a really cute tank for $4 as well as a super darling dress for $12 that unfortunately didn't fit. I was pretty impressed with the denim selection - the store was full of the latest styles (skinny jeans, jeggings, dark rinses) and all at a very reasonable price. My only real beef with this store? I've been going to this Plato's for years, and never had a stand out experience (positive or negative), which I suppose is a good thing. Clothes are hit or miss, and services isn't notable. Yesterday has swayed me though. I wasn't aware there was a "big" clearance sale going on, because honestly every time I shop at a Plato's there's always some "big" sale. As I shopped the racks I started pulling dresses, without fully realizing I was pulling a lot from the sale rack. After grabbing maybe 5-6 things I decided to make my way to the dressing room where I noticed signs on the doors stating you can't try on clearance items. I think I stared at the signs for a minute baffled until a sales associate (potentially manager?) came around to clarify that unfortunately I wouldn't be allowed to try any clearance on because it was their big sale day, and they don't want to back up the fitting rooms with those trying on clearance items. So only full priced items were allowed to be tried on. Mind you - at this time no one was in the fitting room trying anything on in the first place, and literally I was the only one standing there wanting to try anything on. Let me also mention - you can't return sale items. So Owner/Management - please explain if I can't try the item on, and can't return it, what happens if it doesn't fit? If I don't like it once I get home? Also, if you deal with a back-up situation in the fitting room, why aren't you putting a cap on items to try on instead? And considering I was the only one trying to use a fitting room - manager why couldn't you have made an exception? Clearly you could tell I wasn't having the concept. Yeah sorry, that doesn't work. First off, they didn't take half my clothes because they were either plain or not "trendy".. Okay, I get it. Somehow, it took me five visits to Plato's to come to terms with it being a lost cause. I have brought countless bags of clothing for them to sort through, and they take forever just to offer you an insulting price for 2% of what you brought in. I think they take so long sorting through it in hopes of you buying something in the store. Instead, I went outside to get lunch, then sat in one sofa while they sorted through my stuff, haha. If I wanted more clothing, I would have kept mine to begin with! They offered me $10 for pairs of authentic 7 for All Mankind jeans from Bloomindale's along with a couple other equally insane offers. This place has changed big time since first opening up. There is nothing wrong with the items being sold there. It's nice to see that they also sell accessories. And they were cute too. The only reason I am giving it three stars is because of the people I had to encounter. The first two girls I spoke with spoke so fast that I didn't understand what they were saying. I mean it was more like speed mumbling. I dropped off two pairs of shoes I wanted to sell. I came back to see if they would take my items and something funny happened.
