I used to love coming here and shopping especially if I had work clothes that I needed to update or upcycle. I still love Plato's closet. It's a good alternative to buying new new clothes. Lately since I've moved back from Utah (actually had a better time selling in Utah!) I feel like this Plato's closet is buying more of the trendy items because I didn't find too many items for me anymore. Granted I have been getting older, I think they need to update their clothes cause a lot of the items have snags, stains, or dust. Although they still have a good selection for their shoes, some of their fitness brands, and purses. I'm hoping to go back in a couple months to see updates or probably check my luck at other consignments. It just seems more run down than usual and I didnt find anything for me which is too bad. read more

I should've looked at the review before coming back to this location, but I used to sell here back in 2018 and thought it would be the same. I am sharing my similar experience that others also have posted about. I have all plus size items that are either brand new with tags or gently used from Forever 21, free people, charlotte russe, Abercrombie , etc and was told it would take about 20mins. I Left and it was sooner than 20min I got the call my clothes were ready. They used to send you a text with how many items they wanted and how much $ they were going to pay out. But the older woman said this isn't what they're looking for. Respectfully, how would she know what's in or not. The plato's I used to go to in the past were younger generations and various sizes of workers. When I would bring in clothes, a plus size worker would tell me to plscontinue bringing items because they wouldn't get as much and they would buy most of all my items. We're better off selling our own clothes or donating them to a specific shelter in need than coming to this location. read more

I got kicked out and called the cops on for bringing in a sealed plastic water bottle... The manger was very rude and had a lot of attitude. I've been to this location many of times before and have never had a problem with it. I'm not sure if the manager was having a bad day or something but I walked into the store with a water bottle I had bought from a grocery store right next to it and the manager rudely told me that no food or drink is allowed in the store but also told me that she'll allow the water bottle. I reassured her that the water bottle was not gonna spill since that's why I think she was concerned about but I guess she took it the wrong way because she began to yell and kick me out of the store. She even called the cops and told the cops I laid hands on her when I never even touched her. I'm not really angry i'm just upset/shocked because this has never happened before and the reasoning for this happening just seemed pretty immature. read more

After reading the reviews I guess it's under a new management? Sold clothes here before so why not sell again... so I came in to sell clothes yesterday some still with tags on them & some branded tops. I dropped it of to a middle aged/old white man.. I guess it was the owners husband?? I was soon called that my items was ready after 30 mins?? I was told they couldn't buy any of my items since it's not the "BRAND" they wanted.. mind you.. I had Levi's jeans still w/tags, branded active wear, Disney tops & more.. and you're telling me it's not the brand they wanted? They literally said on their page that they buy "Disney" "active wear" But looking around the store, they are selling SHEIN and old style clothes??? Hmmm "interesting" When I got home I noticed that they didn't even go through my stuff!! The way I folded my clothes was still the same.. Why make false advertisement? Just recently went in and they gave me $20 for 4 items, one of which was a brand new pair of adidas campuses. I brought in 2 bags and one was left untouched. The larger of the two bags had 3 of my items from the top unfolded to appear as if they went through the bag. While the rest of the bag was left just how I had brought it in and they had "gone through" my items in less than 15 mins. Their Instagram asks for Brandy Melville items as top items. The larger untouched bag had at least 20 Brandy Melville items in new or good as new condition and they didn't even go through it. If you want customers coming back I'd consider providing customers with the full experience and not leave them hanging. read more

never in my life have i been treated so rudely than i was by the older woman apparently in charge here. as i was looking at their garbage selection of tshirts and sweatshirts...she comes over to inform me that they are already closed. hmmm, well let's see, it's 5:20pm on sunday but their posted hours say they close at 6pm. that's odd...so i say, "really? look pretty open to me?" considering the 8-9 other ppl in the store. she tells me how they lights are turned off? like wtf? as the lights were sure on to me. then she says how the ppl in there were already there inside the store. this old bag of judgmental prejudice cant even lie good. then it dawns on me...hmmm, let's see...she's kicking me out because she thinks i am just a worthless bum due to having a back pack on because i rode my bike here. hmmm, not that i am a label douche, but i dont know many transients that wear psycho bunny pants and malbon shirts (which i had on). but yeah, apparently my money isnt welcome here. oh darn, wasnt a single tshirt i woulda spent $5 on anyways. let alone steal if that's what this POS thought i was in there to do. unreal. never again, as if you shop here you are supporting judgmental bigotry and a business that looks down on those that dont appear up to the standards of the garbage clothing carried in this hole in the wall delusions of grandeur establishment. next time maybe try just being upfront about your prejudices and judging of others. least there's some honor in that...versus just being spineless and lying through your teeth. this place deserves to go out of business. read more

First-time seller at this location. I drove over an hour to get here, so I was hoping for a better experience. The store itself is clean and well-organized for shoppers, which is a plus. However, as a seller, I left disappointed. There's no clear explanation of how they determine the value of items they're buying..and I'm certain I spent more on gas than what I was offered for items I was selling. Additionally, the website does not mention there's a 2-bag limit for selling items. Had I known that in advance, I wouldn't have made the trip for just a few bucks. If you're planning to sell here, maybe call ahead and ask questions...might save you time and effort. read more

Listen, before the new management came in- Platos HB was perfect. Now it seems like someone took over to make a profit- I'm not saying I'm a fashionista when it comes to getting rid of unwanted clothes, but I've tried selling QUALITY styles WITH tags and they would offer less than a mcchicken for it. I only ever come when I'm in the area, but my shopping experience here lately has been uncomfortable. There's an old man and woman running the store now. It used to be friendly upbeat young people, now it feels like no one's happy to even be there. Also! I absolutely HATE the fact that they MAKE you give them your purse before going into the fitting room. It's my personal belonging and it just feels very slimy of them. (for reference i had a TEDDY BEAR BAG- which barely fits my TINY HALF WALLET) I can understand they have shoplifting problems with the WALL OF SHOPLIFTERS outside their shop, but hey, maybe put a "no big bags. no backpacks. no totes sign up" Or don't let anyone in carrying a purse? Don't touch or take people's belongings unless they're selling. Idiotic, actually. If you've read this far, give some more love to the Costa Mesa Platos or Buffalo Exchange. I heard another person saying how they declined clothing they brought from Shein and Fashion Nova which is ironic because that is all they sell in the store. You can bring good names clothes like princess polly, holister, or even something that's still gently used and they will never take it. Not to be disrespectful or anything... but I like how they told me it would be 25 minutes so I told them I'll go get lunch. I sit down and ordered food and they call me literally after I order lunch telling me that it's ready. I come and they mega low balled me ... $51 for five pairs of shoes, including one that's one of the top running shoes right now at the marathons that I wore twice. The other is top of the line Nike max cushion shoe that I wore maybe five times. I'd rather just donate them where I could benefit a nonprofit then to let them profit off of me. I don't live close to here anymore so I call and ask if they are buying and they give a list of both men and womens things that they want. Ok great I have both to bring in. When I get there it's a different story. I needed to make a quick call so I went outside. They were finished with "looking" through my things in under 10 mins. They didn't look. A couple items on the top had moved slightly but nothing else was even unfolded. Why don't you just tell me you aren't buying right now or your store is overstocked when I check before I come there? Saw that the store was under new management and had some clothes to get rid of so I decided to swing by to sell and check out. Was helped quickly by the manager and left 4 bags for them to go through. Picked my bags up the next day and able to sell some items. Quick and easy transaction. Staff was helpful and accountable for all the items that were not sold. Would come back to sell again! As I was at the store, they had some wonderful selection of the shoes and clothes on display. Definitely would come back knowing that they have sellers that have great products to offer this Plato's location. read more

Love the new management I usually go in about once a week or so. Everybody is very friendly their selection of clothes and their prices are amazing. I've gotten some fantastic stuff there. Highly recommend shopping there. I read some bad reviews about selling your clothes there so go somewhere else and sell them but the clothes that they are selling are top-of-the-line and in great condition. They have a section just for Brandy Melville, which makes my teen daughter happy! One of my favorite shops and the women who works there is the sweetest! I've had nothing but great experiences there with the ladies. read more

Love love love this place! I came by on a Saturday to sell some clothes I no longer wanted. The girls working were so nice and attentive. The store itself was clean, neat and organized. After dropping off my clothes, I was told to come back in around 2 hours and even though I came back a little before then, they had already finished and I was paid for what they could buy from me. I believe this Plato's is under new management, I love how they are more size inclusive. Finally, there are more clothes in L/XL. It is much more economical than other Plato's. The selection here is pretty mid and their policies are just straight up weird. I found a cool top to try on and while I was going into the fitting room the attendant asked if I could leave my purse outside. I was shocked so I asked if she meant my purse and she responded, "Yes". I asked why and she said because they don't allow purses in their fitting rooms. I completely understand that theft is at an all time high these days, but I had ONE SHIRT. Why would I leave my bag unattended in their store where there are multiple "beware of thieves" photos posted. It's not like I had a bunch of items that I could have stolen. I had ONE SHIRT. I truly enjoy coming here to find hidden treasures. The male owner is usually there mornings and is really friendly. I have bought some items here and some even have the tags on! All resell locations whether it's here, buffalo, or anywhere else gives you a small percentage of what it's worth. When I sold it was items that no longer fit and whatever they did not buy I donated to goodwill. Either way reselling or donating is good for the environment that way the clothes doesn't end up in a landfill and you're helping those who have limited funds purchase pre loved items! read more

Customer service was nice. Other than that, I brought only the type of items they had listed on what they were in search of. My stuff was barely used and some brand new with tags. I brought good brands too. They passed on ALL my items and even had to text someone to see if my items were worth buying.The items I brought looked in better quality than what they had on sale. Also, when you try items on they ask you to put your bag in a bin, which I didn't mind, but I know would disappoint others. Don't waste your time going here. They offer an amazing selection of clothing, shoes, and accessories for an amazing discount. I always feel welcomed when I visit this store. I've been coming here for hidden gems for a while. Under new management, I hate to say that the style and clothing selection has fallen short. There are gaps in their new customer service (i.e., waiting 2 hours to sell your clothes, staff members not noticing when a customer needs help). They might be understaffed.
