Honor is a great little town with side by side local bars. These are legit, not fake "dive" bars. It was empty on a rainy mid-May Saturday. We stopped here for lunch after reading some really positive reviews. We sat in the lounge area and were greeted by Evan, our friendly bar tender. He quickly served us cocktails. They had grapefruit juice! A generous bowl of fresh popcorn followed. We had our hearts set on a burger to celebrate the reduction my cholesterol. The patty melt was tasty and juicy. The fries were a wide/flat cut and they were delicious. In the middle of our meal a party bus of birthday celebrators arrived for shots. They apologized for interrupting our peace, but they were friendly and fun. The bar was very accommodating. Our total bill for a shared patty melt and fries plus 2 tall drinks was $20. What a deal! I can't wait to come back to Honor. I will try a meal at the next door restaurant, The Lumberjack. Drive a few minutes out of town to Beulah and there are more bars and restaurants. read more

Prior to COVID we had only eaten breakfast at PRI. They have a good breakfast and excellent coffee. A few weeks ago we stopped in for an early dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent food. The soup was very good and the Rachel Reuben was one of the best I've had. I was disappointed by the beers on tap but there were many bottle selections so I got over it;) Looking forward to trying their fish and chips and some other fare in the future. Would definitely recommend giving it a try when you are lucky enough to be visiting Honor. Side note: They don't enforce masking and Covid precautions.. or at least did not when we were last there. read more

My dad and I dined here this morning. I second what the other diner said the generous portion sizes and reasonable prices. Dad had a kitchen sink omelette, and it was ginormous. I had the 2 egg, fries, and toast breakfast. They have cholula, you just have to ask for it. Everything was good, place was clean and spacious. They appear to have a back meeting room, seems like it'd fit maybe up to 50 people, someone should check. Lots of seating, anyways. Cute location right in the old downtown district. They are on a busy road though, so street parkers and anyone parking across the street should be really careful. There is a lot next to the business which is specifically for the platte river inn. Very clean & beautiful inside. Our waitress was very friendly & stayed on top of everything, never had to look for her. I had the steak melt sub & it was sooooooo good! Meat had wonderful flavor & tender. Onion & mushrooms cooked perfect(mushrooms were fresh not canned). The bread was toasted & soft, with cheese oozing out of the sides! Yum! Platte River Inn is our go to place during trips to Sleeping Bear when we need a break from campfire breakfast making (or when we get rained out). The design is that of your local family diner, a bit of the rustic "up north" logging theme. The menu is the standard American fare. On Sundays, only the breakfast menu is offered until closing at 2pm. Most of our visits have been for breakfast, though we have tried lunch once. I think that their breakfast is better, the lunch is fine, but I found it very average. The lunch portions, for the main menu, are normal but the breakfast menu and the children's menu are huge. I really do not understand why the children's portion is so large (insert comment regarding America's child obesity issues here), especially as it is 10 and younger. An order of spaghetti could feed three children. The children's pancake is one large pancake with two normal sized pancakes that create a Mickey Mouse shape. The adult portions are easily sharable. We had a farmer's omelet and the eggs Benedict. The eggs Benedict was the original, an unpretentious version, but the egg was poached correctly and the hollandaise had a good balance. The omelet had a good ratio of cheese, veggies and meat to egg. Prices are not bad when you consider the amount of food. The service was great, even as busy as the Sunday breakfast crowd was. My family has a vacation home about three miles from Platte River Inn and it has become our go-to place for breakfast. To start, the coffee is FABULOUS. They make it using a coffee concentrate and it's really smooth and flavorful. The menu has just about every breakfast option you could want at reasonable prices. I'm a big fan of the Mexican omelette and the American fries. I wouldn't say anything on the menu is especially unique, but it's all done well and it's affordable. I finally had my first lunch at the restaurant last weekend. I ordered the whitefish sandwhich, which was about 10" of broiled whitefish on bread. It was somewhat hard to eat as a sandwich because it kept crumbling, so I ate the fish plain and it was delicious. Again, the menu was affordable and tasty. I've yet to try the dinner menu, but highly recommend Platte River Inn as a solid place for a good meal. read more

This place was pretty busy Sunday morning. After breakfast, it's easy to see why. The staff is friendly, and even with 20 people waiting to be seated, we where all taken care of fairly quickly. Breakfast was delicious. I got the farmers omelette add tomatoes. For $8.50 I got enough omelette for two meals. Did I happen to mention that it was tasty? This is a beautiful restaurant with a lively environment. I would give this restaurant a solid 4.5 stars. Yelp doesn't allow me to, so they get 5 stars for now. My wife and son and I just ate here for breakfast. The service was average. The food portions were very good. The food quality was average. The service lacked a little in small areas, like getting our water, straws, napkins. Some requests were seemingly ignored. We are from downstate Michigan and we spend much of our summers in the area. It takes a bit of getting used to at many northern Michigan establishements. Things run slower. So taking this into account, I would probably eat here again. The establishment is very clean. Had dinner here tonight and was impressed. Small town charm and hospitality combine with great food and efficient, friendly service for a great experience. Breads are made on-site, and a nice thick slice accompanies dinner entrees. Salad was lovely mixed greens with cucumber, red onion, tomato and croutons. I will say I've had better blue cheese dressing. One of our party ordered a pork chop with mashed potatoes and gravy and just raved about it. Potatoes are homemade and although the gravy wasn't homemade, it was still a tasty dish. Another diner ordered the breaded perch (lake perch, of course!) and it, too was very good. I would recommend that if they're going to serve 5 filets of fish that they do crank up the size of the lemon wedges served with it. Fries were hand cut and yummy. Driving through town and needed dinner. We were going to a nearby restaurant when we discovered this one. The extensive menu drew is in. Great choice, my guess is it might be the best place in town. 7 of us at the table and our food was out quick, hot and right the first time. Our waitress was very attentive and spot on. She checked on us several times, our drinks never went empty. In fact, our waitress (Renee AKA R6) tonight might be the best server I've experienced in a year. She hustled, and is top shelf. We ordered a dish that came with extra onions. We sent it back as daughter does not like onions and a fresh one was back in a flash. I will eat here again and suggest you give it a try. Although we were initially disappointed that we missed the breakfast cut-off time of 11 AM, we were not disappointed when our food arrived. Everything was delicious. Even though I don't usually have more than one cup of coffee, it was so good that I had three! Their soup of the day was New England clam chowder which was thick, chunky and very tasty. Their cod burgers were very generous and delicious as well. Even the kids exclaimed at how good their cheese pizzas were (anyone with young ones know that compliments aren't all that common.) I was happily surprised when the bill came. For the quality and portion size of the food, I thought it would be much higher. Our weekend trip was marred by high-priced, sub par restaurant experiences, but this was a real delight. read more

We enjoyed breakfast here recently -- in homage to the lumbering history of the area I ordered some very delicious biscuits and gravy, and my partner had eggs Benedict. We were very happy with our meals. Our server was also courteous and attentive. The place was very busy for a very small town after Labor Day, which is an indication that this is a local go-to for good food. When we entered the restaurant we were told to sit where we wanted. We were sitting in the back and waited for a long time for the waitress to come and give us menus. The fist statement she made was that neither of them there that day were not servers. I was a little apprehensive on ordering after that statement. We ordered a patty melt with a side of fries. It was 1/2 pound of burger and since neither one of us were extremely hungry we decided to split it. The waitress brought two plates with everything split and stated that they gave us extra fries since we were sharing. The patty melt was great but we were right on the sharing aspect. It was very filling and it was one of the better patty melt I have eaten in a long time. It seemed like their portions were huge but it sure was a delicious meal. A great dining experience. Wonderful, casual atmosphere with awesome food. Don't let the ultra casual / rustic look of the dining room fool you, the menu is very diverse and food was excellent. We had a guest with a severe nut allergy and our waitress made sure he was taken care of. Can't say enough about Megan, our server. She was attentive, friendly, and professional.
