Cute, cozy, bright, and playful coffee shop. Love the bright colors of the decor and merch. Service was great. He asked if we had any questions and was attentive as we made our selections. I tried the Cardamom latte. The flavor and scent was very pleasant. Enjoyable! My husband had an espresso shot and unfortunately it was more bitter than we typically like but not bad. It reminded me of 90% dark chocolate with a hint of orange zest. Worth checking out for sure! I want to come back and try some other items soon.

I was unsure whether or not to respond to the owner's reply. But thank you for taking the time to respond to my updated review. I believe my original review specified that I usually get the strawberry matcha, not the Volcano coffee. The strawberry matcha is $9. it's good. It's expensive for ME(and probably the average consumer). If you go down to Airoma and get their Strawberry Matcha (50%-75% SWT) it tastes like a matcha strawberry pocky for $7. I didn't mention it before, I'm not sure if they have fixed it but their tip percentage is predatory. I didn't mind because I have a careful eye but the lowest percentage set was 20% and the highest was a whopping 40%. It left a bad taste in my mouth but again, tip is optional...

Always love coming here! The location is a bit hidden but it's a very cute and unique spot! The baristas are always friendly and never fall short on their positive attitudes. I've so far tried both the volcano latte and the matcha maple latte. The volcano latte is very rich, and the matcha maple latte has both a sweet but earthy taste but the sweetness tastes a bit different and not too strong with the maple.

Stopped by PlayCoffee and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Sudachi Matcha Tonic and a cold brew, and both drinks came out quickly. The Sudachi Matcha Tonic was excellent. It was very matcha forward with a subtle citrus note. Not overly bright like a yuzu tonic, but just enough citrus to notice as you sip, allowing the matcha to remain the focus. The cold brew was also well done. Smooth, not bitter, and with plenty of body. Very easy to drink. I also really liked how the space is laid out. They repurposed shipping containers in a thoughtful way, creating clearly separated seating areas. There is an outdoor section, an indoor section with bathrooms, and a main kitchen area where you order drinks and browse merchandise. The layout feels intentional and works well even when the shop is busy. Looking back, we probably should have asked about the beans because the coffee was good enough that we would have happily picked up a bag or two to take home. Quick service, well executed drinks, and a unique space make PlayCoffee a spot worth revisiting. I will definitely be back to try more from their menu.

9/10 Hojicha Latte - I didn't adjust the sweetener at all. When I tried it after they made it, it wasn't sweet enough for me. I actually had to ask the barista twice to add more sweetener. Yes, I like my drinks on the sweeter side! Other than that, it had a nice earthy flavor. The layout of the place was also very interesting. Cost - $8.00 in total.

The barista very enthusiastically recommended the volcano latte (smoky sea salt) to me and it did not disappoint! I love a salty latte so this hit the spot and wasn't too sweet at half sweetness. I love the indoor-outdoor feeling and the colorful decorations throughout that really exude playful (lol) and childlike. The shipping container is a really cute aesthetic and I appreciate how there was still an outlet inside.

I really enjoyed my matcha from here. It wasn't too thick or watered down, it was a great consistency. The flavor wasn't too overwhelming and it was a nice addition to my trip to the flea market down the street. Cool place!

The vibe of this place is unique. I've driven by on Commonwealth and assumed it was a typical set-up of outdoor seating and a brick and mortar shop, but it's two shipping containers, converted into a coffee space, in an alleyway, in downtown Fullerton. You can park on the street, but I get nervous about parking on Commonwealth and Harbor because of the traffic and I decided to go all the way around and park in the parking lot by Heroes and walked over. I stopped by on the weekday in the morning and it wasn't crowded, in fact there was one couple ahead of me. The one person working the bar was very chill, so if you're thinking of stopping here before heading to the office, I would say neigh. This is one of those laid back, take your time and enjoy the outdoor elements coffee spots. I ordered a maple latte and went to do some work in the outdoor seating area. There's another shipping container connected to the main shop that has tables and chairs and a few outlets for chargers. Can you work in there? Sure. Is it a vibe? Not really, there are air conditioners in there, but there's no background music and it feels like you're in a fancy shipping container. I ordered a shaken maple latte, it was good and had a hint of orange in it. I would recommend this place if you want to slow down and enjoy the weather and your coffee, not if you are commuting to work.

This fun coffee shop has a glass-encased space for ordering, with several patio areas surrounding it, and a separate room with indoor seating. They are known for their Volcano Latte so that's what I ordered (hot rather than iced) along with a chocolate chip cookie. It was a mild evening so I sat outside at one of the patio tables. The latte had an interesting sweet & salty taste; actually the flavor wasn't too salty but I could taste the saltiness on my lips after sipping. The coffee flavor was smooth and vivid. It paired perfectly with the chocolate chip cookie which also had some salt on it to give it that sweet & salty combination. The duo working here were friendly and quick. It's located in downtown Fullerton so there are a couple of nearby lots but, being a weekday, I easily found street parking a block away.

The wallet threshold has a mental setting yet there are times to expand beyond some of the pricing to get the experience. That is not to say this place is big $$. (Big $ was being in Japan and paying $15 when it was near 1:1 for a siphon type coffee.) The staff at Play is great! The base coffees and infused ones well worked out. The taste is excellent for an enjoyable coffee experience. Parking can be challenging at peak hours when the other eateries are in full swing.

By far the best shop in Fullerton! Leon finds the highest quality ingredients (a lot of the time they are organic if that matters to you) to make their drinks and it shows in the flavor profile of each one. I am from Northern California but whenever I'm in the area I won't miss the opportunity to stop by to get the amazing Volcano Latte! The coffee is so good and the flavors of the Volcano latte are amazing together! This is the best little coffee place! Hoping they can open one up here someday! Or at least give me the recipe! The staff is so nice. The shipping container building is so unique and cute! It's in downtown Fullerton which is just a fun place to go anyway! This is a gem of a coffee house ! I had the volcano latte & it was so good. They have different & unique lattes . I would highly recommend trying one. We sat outside with friends & the owner came to see if we needed anything . He is a super nice guy. They also have a tea menu with some really unique blends ! I would Highly recommend having a cup of java at The Play . If your hungry there are great eatery's next to The Play to grab a bite . read more

Cute shop & friendly workers! My husband and I came in for patio seating and had a great experience. We got a sweet latte, espresso, and a drip coffee. Everything was really good! Price was about $11 for all three, which seems in line with specialty coffee shop pricing. They also have a small retail section, with kettles, hand sanitizer (sign of the times lol), and bags of whole bean coffee for sale. They are a multi-roaster, meaning they choose which coffee brands to purchase from and will likely be rotating the selection periodically. When we walked in, the owner actually opened the door for us. The barista at the front, Alyssa (I think), was really friendly. Our drinks came out promptly. Right now, I believe only the outdoor seating is open. There are benches on one side (with small tables to place your drinks - very thoughtful!) as well as some chair seating on the opposite side. There is indoor seating as well, but I believe it isn't open currently. The shop is built out of shipping containers, and has a really bright, playful aesthetic. Overall, we had a great experience, and will definitely be back! read more

I wish I could give PLAY 100000 stars. We love this coffee shop so much! Everything about PLAY is outstanding. The environment, the decor, the staff, the drinks, the location and more. There's just something about the ambience that is unlike any other coffee shop in OC. Their drinks are consistent and no matter who makes the drink, it'll taste the same everytime. They use good quality ingredients and they're very educated in their craft. They have unique gifts and support other small brands in their shop. They have WiFi and tons of indoor/outdoor seating. Prices are great considering if you go to Starbucks, you pay the same price if not more for watered down coffee, inconsistency on taste and not good organic ingredients. Plus you're supporting a small business here at PLAY! The owner here is so nice and goes above & beyond for his customers. He is here daily putting in the work and I love to see it. Thank you PLAY for bringing your uniqueness to downtown Fullerton. Our family loves you guys! read more

BEST COFFEE IN OC!!!!! The only qualm I have with this place is that it's too damn far from my house! (though that may be a good thing otherwise I'd be there every day!). The quality of the coffee is unreal. The espresso and the milk aren't ever burned (and I hope it stays that way), the flavor of the espresso is always delicious, and the baristas know what they're doing. I love the volcano latte with oat milk. I've yet to try more of their unique drinks!!! The place is very tastefully done and is a gem in OC. Great place for a hangout, to study, to chill, or just drink a damn good coffee. The staff is nice, they always have cool merchandise on hand, the cups are so cool, the pop-ups are fun, and the coffee is just delicious! read more

I was able to visit the shop the other day and was so blown away that I just had to share my thoughts. I tried the volcano latte because it sounded interesting, but it was the most delicious latte I've had! So smooth and just right in terms of sweetness. This place is so cute! it's multi dimensional- there are several spaces that you can go to indoors and out in the coffee is really good they make their own syrups. it's super creative and they even have some shaken iced coffee's. Specialty teas too. Very friendly service. One of my favorite coffee places ever! read more

Recently visited here and the coffee was amazing! Ended up going twice during my trip to Fullerton and actually cant wait to go back. The service was great and i thought the pricing was wonderful too! I had an iced lavender latte and an iced sweet maple. My friend had a cap ( which is usually my go to but the weather was too warm for me to drink something hot) and she said it was AMAZING. Really cant wait to go back! read more

Best coffee place in OC by a long shot. Multi-Roaster stores are gold and Play has one of the best selections of coffee, from around the globe, that you'll find anywhere. What they use to make their coffee changes on a daily basis and you will get to try a wide variety of roasters simply by going there multiple times. Not only are they passionate about the beans but even the water they use to make coffee. Every little detail, every bit of equipment, looks like they've been carefully selected to make the absolute best coffee. If you're a coffee geek, you'll appreciate the effort put in to make the best. Even if you're not a coffee geek, their drinks are fantastic with a range that will fit all different types of palates. My only complaint? They're not walking distance from where I live. read more

Where can I start? This new coffee shop in DTF stands out on its own ranging from its great design and service to the awesome owner Leon, it offers a great selection of coffee from Unity, The Barn, George Howell and 49th Parallel. You can tell the layout and aesthetics were thoughtfully planned and pieced together in a well orchestrated setting/environment, making it one unforgettable experience. read more

Ordered an iced vanilla latte with oat milk and it is by far one of the BEST I have had. Being someone who is absolutely obsessed with coffee, this place is definitely a new go to for me when visiting this area. I was able to fully taste the flavoring of the coffee without the oat milk taking too much away, as it typically does. I also really liked that it wasn't super sweet, I definitely will be back again soon! read more

My fiance and I are coffee fanatics. Play exceeds all of our needs/expectations and has introduced us to new brands, roasters, and classic beverage permutations. Staff is knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Atmosphere is friendly and brilliantly designed. Cannot recommend highly enough. read more

People couldn't hear their orders being called and it lead to a weird clump of people just lingering around wondering where their drinks were. And unless you're seated/have a table, you're kind of stuck awkwardly hovering around the cafe to wait for your order. There isn't really a space to wait at. There's a ton of tables packed inside a small space, which is nice, but also makes for a weird atmosphere for customers who are waiting for their drinks for take out/can't get a table. There is not much to comment on service as you order yourself on kiosks then just pick up your drink. Not sure if I'd return; maybe for another drink if I'm in the area but I think I personally have other spots I prefer a bit more for the taste/quality.

I decided to try the pandan latte and it was just as she described: more coffee flavor, subtle on the pandan and not too sweet. I tried it and although the pandan flavor could be a bit more strong, I actually really liked it. You can taste the pandan but it's very subtle. I know that pandan itself has a very subtle aroma. Even when you have it in Asian desserts, its flavor is usually very faint unless it's the artificial stuff. I would order it again but maybe ask for a little more of the pandan syrup. My husband ordered the salted caramel latte and I tried some of it. It was so good! He really liked it too. I liked the foam with the salted mocha (?) powder stuff on top... it was so good. Espresso used in the drinks were of good quality and a nice dark flavor. Interior is really cute too. Reminds me of the cafes in Korea. It we lived in the area I would come here often. We'll have to come back if we're ever in the area.

I still genuinely enjoy this place and will keep coming back for the coffee, but I hope the restroom situation gets addressed because it would make a big difference in the overall experience.

However, I recommend parking in their parking lot, in the back. That way, you get a view of the garden before you place your order. It's still nice in the front, very welcoming. You walk through the gate, up the stairs, and through the front door. It's nicely air conditioned inside. Indoor seating looks like someone's dining room. The counter is near the back, on the left hand side. I grabbed a menu to take a look before I ordered. Food items listed on one side of the menu, and so many drink options on the other side. Little overwhelming. Too many choices. Coffee and non-coffee drinks. Although they offer paninis and avocado toast, I ordered a regular spicy pork cupbap ($15) and Dubai chocolate latte, iced ($7.75), paid at the counter, and received a pager. When the pager started buzzing, I went inside to pickup my order. My drink was basically a dessert in a cup. Absolutely delicious. So many wonderful ingredients on top. The spicy pork cupbap is spicy. I mixed it all up like I would any bibimbap. It consisted of white rice, glass noodles, red cabbage, pork, and a perfectly fried egg on top. Delicious. They offer a large size, but regular is more than enough. I decided to sit outside, in the back, to get the full garden experience. Although Fullerton is a little warm in June, the garden is absolutely wonderful. It's like sitting in someone's backyard, but on steroids. You shouldn't have trouble finding a spot to sit. There are so many tables and chairs, all over the place, around every corner: In the main garden, in the garden in front, on both sides of the cafe, on both porches, the one in the back and smaller one in front. It's a garden of Eden, with a large, fruitful lemon tree standing in the center. Green plants and trees all over the place, flowering plants and succulents. There's a large gazebo and umbrellas to shade you from the sun. Fun, whimsical displays throughout the garden, including bird houses, curated displays, and miniature communities. Service was welcoming and efficient. I highly recommend this cafe if you're looking for a nice outdoor garden to eat, drink, and hang out.

There's only 3 parking spaces do that also keeps the place inconvenient. The interior is absolutely charming, with a cozy nostalgic vibe. I especially loved the community wall where visitors can leave positive notes and messages, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. As for the coffee, it was good but not particularly memorable. We ordered a latte and a Vietnamese coffee (their version), so it's not strong. Both the latte and ice coffee were enjoyable, but neither stood out The owners are such a kind and friendly couple that it's hard not like this place. While the coffee alone may not be enough to make me go out of my way for a return visit, I would happily stop by again to support this lovely local business and enjoy a cup in their cozy space.

It came with espresso, black sugar, and my choice of milk (whole, oat, or almond). The drink with oat milk was decently creamy and tasty. It was my first time trying this latte, and I was quite surprised that it had a smoky, caramel-like flavor. It wasn't very sweet due to the black sugar's rich profile, so I was happy with the cashier's recommendation. It was refreshing during a warm morning. There were plenty of patio tables with some shade outside.

The staff came off as a bit snobby, and I was especially put off by one female barista who laughed at a group of ladies as they left because they didn't know what an espresso tonic was. I have to say, I have loved this coffee shop for years. But my most recent visit, I overheard the owner berating a totally great employee who served us. The owner was reprimanding the barista about using the bathroom outside of their breaks? Which I'm fairly certain is illegal? I will not be revisiting based on this experience. read more
