Reading more and more reviews of people complain about the customer service. I have told my family and friend to stay away from Doing business there. If you read my review on a new bat I purchased and the very n Ct day it had a defect occurred. This business would not assist one bit. It was the bay company who took my call. Refunded me 100 dollars. Sent my kid a new bat for free and for lower up with a corporate phone call stating this business was dead wrong in there handling of the whole situation. I give mostly 5 stars. But this place sucks . I'm reading more and more unhappy customers who have spent thousands now being treated like crap ! Do business elsewhere through sports companies or elsewhere. Had a miserable experinance trading in gear. Fot the time I wasted and having to deal with the poor customer service, I wish I had just thrown it away. They only paid about 20% of what they were selling the same equipment for, which is ok - I hadn't expected much more, but I didn't expect to be treated like they were doing me a big favor to take it at that price. They did seem to treat the customers spending money there a bit better, but they don't seem to want to buy used gear any more. read more

We buy so much sporting gear for our kids at this store, and have the best deals around. We have three, young, growing kids, and it would cost us so much much to go to a "big box store" to buy them new gear every few months. We are happy with the selections, prices, helpful staff, and flexibility in trading in old gear (in proper condition of course!) for the "next sizes up" for our kids. Skiing, skating, snow shoeing, biking, hockey, baseball, wiffleball, soccer, you name it, this place has it. (And they are dog friendly too in case you drop in unplanned for something with your dog in the car!) Be weary of negative feedback from a few nutty people below. The staff knows what they are talking about, and have good training, experience, and recommendations which we trust and find very helpful in product and size selection. They have also talked us out of wasting our money on certain items. Some people are just impatient, uneducated, ignorant, ridiculous, or else have an ax to grind on social media. (for example: No, you can't return an "cup" athletic supporter... that's just gross! And if your gear is obsolete, out-of-season, beat up or in poor working condition of course they aren't going to buy it back from you - the store needs to be able to resell it again. Its a small business, not the Salvation Army!!) Honestly this local store has been incredibly awesome & helpful for our family over the years and will be in the future as well as our kids grow up and play more sports. DO NOT purchase anything new here - horrible customer service and dishonest owner. I spend thousands of dollars here regularly for my kids who play every sport under the sun. Last weekend I bought a $400 brand new paddle board and got home to find that there are a bunch of punctures in the foam top. They put it on my car and it was damaged when I got home. They are blaming me for the punctures on the brand new board and aren't willing to even consider they could have given me a damaged board. I made a friend today, and bought some skates! Watch out world, here I come! We strolled into this location - one goal. Three pair of skates. I have driven by this area, a BUNCH of times and never ever seen this store. It's squished in the middle of a strip mall that has a lot of strange stores clumped together. It's kind of behind a bank too - at a lot of angles from the street, it's not too visible. After a bunch of searching and stuffing my feet into a whole bunch of hockey skates, I decided on a pair of new EASTON skates, my bf grabbed up a pair of Bauer, and his cousin the same. Mine were about $64, theirs were about $55, we got a few pair of cloth skate guards at $10/piece, and got to mess around with the cashier a little - he could take it AND dish it out! It was hilarious! I love messing with strangers, like it even more when they play along! We got our skates sharpened and walked out happy. I will be back, I'm sold - this place is pissah. I'm gonna tell everybody to go here for their sporting good needs. read more

Have known this family when they were in business in Somerville. They have always put the customer first. Our family shops at their store in North Reading all the time and we are always completely satisfied with the sports equipment or clothing we purchase and with the trade in values we receive for our used equipment. The entire staff is always pleasant and very informative. Their goal is always to fit you with the best possible equipment for your needs and budget. Their selection is huge. I have been a loyal customer since moving to the area almost 10 yrs ago, but after today will never go back to this location. My wife bought a cup for my son, and when she got home, I said that's too small and she bought the next size up the next day. When I tried to return the small one, I was told store policy is to never refund cups. I think their return policy, or lack thereof, on unopened equipment is ridiculous. I get it, who would want to buy a "new" but used cup. Problem is, they wont take back unopened ones. These are sold in "blister" packs that apparently "some customers" are able to open (without opening), have their kids wear them, then try to return them to the store. There is no way to try them on, they have no tape measure hanging on the shelf with the cups and offer no way to be sure it's the right size for your son. This packaging and no way of measuring your kid in the store could be described as a type of scam to get you to buy multiple ones until u find the right size - ridiculous. The kicker for me was when the mgr offered me 10% discount off today's purchase. Are you kidding me? $30 for a 8 yr old boy's cup and you offer a 10% discount instead of a return on an unopened box? If you're going to have a policy like this in place, you should sell them in packages that are truly unopenable, and offer a fabric waist sizer tape measure on the rack where they are sold. Contrary to what you may believe, you are not the only game in town and have lost another great customer. read more

Prices are cheap to reasonable on all new and used products. Selection can be hit or miss...if you're looking for something super specific call ahead or shop online. Spent $300 on Intro to hockey equipment. Used literally a handful of times. Just brought it all back in mint condition to trade in for credit toward purchase of snowshoes. Got $48 credit. $48 for 2 pairs of Bauer skates with skate guards, 2 pairs of shin/knee pads, 2 pairs elbow pads, 2 hockey helmets, and a huge, gorgeous hockey equipment bag. $48. (Didn't even cover the cost of one pair of the snowshoes.) Tough to go back there again. Would rather have donated it to a family and saved them from having to buy from Play It Again Sports in North Reading. read more

We've spent a fair amount of money here over the last couple of years. Today we took our daughter's snowboard back to use it toward the purchase of a new one there. They wouldn't take it - despite our buying it there - because they had too many of that size. This is the second time we've had this same experience - their willingness to take items seems to depend on the way the wind blows that day, despite that being their model. After thinking about it for a minute, I chose to leave with the old board - we'd rather pay someone else more money than shop there again. Quite unfortunate given the amount of sports equipment we need to buy for our daughter's activities. Guess someone else gets the business now! read more

This location has the best selection of used and new ski's around. I have a family of 5 and every year they have taken care of everyone in the family. ski's, boots, poles, helmets, goggles, jackets, pants, socks, etc. What ever we can not pass down to the youngest gets traded in. Definitely a one stop shop. They do all of our ski work in house. They make everything extremely easy to deal with. We have never been disappointed in the great service and selection. Been shopping there for a few years now. My son plays baseball, Football and now lacrosse. Prices are OK but not very competitive, and selections are small due to it being a small store, but have been supportive because its a local business and convenient because its in town. WONT RETURN AGAIN THOUGH........ Was in a pinch to get my son some football cleats last minute. They only had cheap $26.00 soccer cleats in stock. We took them in desperation. My son practiced one hour on the turf field and they killed his feet so bad he cried. My wife went to Dicks and found $85 Nike football cleats on clearance sale for $31.00 at Dicks. The next morning I returned with the cleats and the receipt. The guy recognized me and said sorry all sales are final. We don't take back anything worn. I found that real odd since the receipt said they take returns on everything but clearance items. These were full suggested retail price stamped by the manufacturer. He said they are now used and no one takes back an item after it was worn at any store. Since I am a retail General Manager of a very large cooperation and my wife is a also in Cooperate Retail management I explained to him he was very wrong about this. He then debated what was he going to do with these now they are used???? I thought that was a strange question since they always have a huge rack of used cleats in their store for sale. After much debate about how wrong I was he said he could consider giving me half my money back, but he shouldn't. As a matter of principle and good business ethics I refused that half hearted offer. I would rather swallow the $26.00 and never return. His bold and arrogant attitude showed me that customer service, sympathy and repeat business are not important to him. Its sad that with his high prices, lack of selection and bad customer service skills we will most likely be seeing another pizza shop land in North Reading in the near future. I strongly suggest going to Dicks Sporting Goods if you want to avoid all this grief and so you have the comfort knowing that if something doesn't work out they care enough to help the customer not treat them like an idiot who is wasting their time. read more

I was in the Play It Again store in North Reading Ma. this weekend. This was my first exposure to this concept and I have to tell you it was exceptional!. My daughter wanted and needed new skates. Her old skates did not fit so I threw them out in the trash. She picked them out and told me would could get cash if we wanted or traded them against another pair at Play It Again Sports. I had never heard of this before. She said her friends told her about it when they traded in their old skates. So off we went down RT 28 to find the store. Fist it sticks out like a sore thumb with it's deep ROYAL BLUE building color. We went in and it was really clean and organized. We went to the front counter and asked them what they could do on our old skates for a trade or cash. They said look around while they priced them. We looked at new anda used figure skates. The selection was impressive. they also had the largest selection of used and new hockey skates I've ever seen. Seemed like a thousand pairs! Anyway a few minutes later a tall man named Paul came over and asked it we needed help. He was extremely helpful in fitting my daughter with a new pair of used skates that I though we in 8+ shape out of 10 being new! We went to pay and he told us how much eh would give us for the old skates and I was pleasantly surprised. We also needed a sharpening to he gave the skates to a short fellow names Jim and asked him to sharpen the skates. We talked for a few minutes with Paul and the pother employees and they were very nice likeable, personable people. they told us it was a family business and they had been in business for 17 years.Something you no longer find these days. Jim came back with out sharp skates and I could not have been more satisfied. I want customer service when I NEED customer service. These guys are tops and nice people to deal with. I'll be back with my son for his hockey equipment an trade in his old stuff. They seem to have an abundance of downhill skis and boots and snowboards. Many more than I've seen at some ski shops. There seemed to be hundreds of pairs in all lengths. I don't ski but half dozen people were in their getting sized for skis and snowboards so I assume they had good prices. I'll be back!
