I think Playa bowls is a great place to on a hot day or while you are down the shore! I always get the Nutella bowl which is amazing. But I do think playa bowls a little over priced. I am just getting a bowl of fruit and it can be thirteen dollars! I do like the atmosphere in the store. The walls are painted a wonderful blue color and reminds we of the beach. Playa Bowls is trendy and a great place to meet up with friends. It does get very busy and especially in the summer so I recommend ordering online to bet the long line of customers! It is slightly cheaper than the Samba bowls in town, and much closer to the center of town as well. They also give you much more. So today I decided to order online so I didn't have to wait on the crazy lines. I was so disappointed in my order. I got the Nutella bowl and it was flooded with the açaí. I've been here about 4 times in the past couple months and was never satisfied. My bowls always look terrible and are never filled but this last time was the last straw. Went in to get a bowl, was the only one there and they took forever. They couldn't find a top to my bowl and it took 3 workers to find one... When i got my bowl it was not filled. It was about halfway filled and with maybe 2 strawberries cut up and half of a very small skinny banana. I saw that they weigh their bowls which is ridiculous. Im paying 10-11$ for a not filled bowl with just a few pieces of fruit. Any other açaí bowl places around do not weigh their bowls and fit as much as they can in them. The staff here is always super friendly and quick. My wife always gets the Lola or the Electric Mermaid bowls. For me, I am a lemonade and iced tea fanatic. I get their tizzies every time I am there. I would give it 5 stars, but parking can sometimes be a pain. It's not the fault of the establishment, just the nature of it's location within Ridgewood. On Saturday evening 8/12/2023 my husband asked if I wanted Playa Bowls. We usually go to the Franklin Lakes location but they were closed so I found the Ridgewood location which said it was open until 10:00. We arrived around 8:30 I believe so it wasn't close to closing time not that that would be any excuse. We both ordered the same thing...the Açaí Tropical bowl...one with gluten free granola. The young girl taking our order even asked if I had an allergy to which I responded "yes." My husband went up to the counter when our order was ready. He looked for the sticker that says "gluten free" but there wasn't one. (The Franklin Lakes location always adheres a label that says "gluten free" so you know.) My husband asked which one was the gluten free bowl. The girl at the counter turns and asks another girl which one was gluten free. The other girl comes over, picks up each bowls, holds each one up and looks at them from underneath and then points to one and says this one is gluten free. Please tell me how the heck you can tell just by looking at it which one is gluten free??? I should have insisted that they make me a new one to be sure but I felt weird doing that. I ate my bowl and then later was feeling nauseous and sick. My stomach has been feeling awful since...even today! It is reckless and irresponsible to be so careless and casual with regard to a customer's allergies!!! I don't know but maybe this is what happens when you entrust teenagers to run your business! Maybe it's time to retrain your employees! The take away is BEWARE if you have food allergies if you decide to go to this location! One more thing to note...the Açaí was lumpy not smooth like when I get my bowls from Franklin Lakes and there was too much honey as well! Not a fan of the Ridgewood location. read more

Very disappointed. Ordered an oatmeal bowl with strawberries, bananas, peanut butter, granola and Nutella. Besides waiting 20 minutes for something that comes out of a cooker they messed it up. They put coconut on it which who knows where they got that idea but unfortunately I won't be coming back. When making a new one they left off the granola because they made it in 2 minutes instead of 20. Didn't bother telling them because they should be able to read an order ticket. Also the worker had no idea what the oatmeal was made with in terms of liquid. I love the concept but it's location and it being run by teenagers are the biggest flaws in my opinion. No parking in the tiny lot in back. There are supposed to be 3 parking spots but they were taken up by a playa bowl truck and 2 construction vans. -1 star for inadequate parking. I placed an order online, received a confirmation email and arrived ten minutes after the estimated order time. They apparently hadn't received my order so -1 star for that. Oh, and I paid the extra 50 cents to place the online order, too! The workers are young and there isn't any type of outwardly friendly service. When I came in to pick up my order I gave them my name and the two girls looked at each other, sort of shrugged and went back to what they were doing. No acknowledgement of my order whatsoever. I had to ask twice and finally the one girl said she'd make it immediately, which she did. As another reviewer mentioned, the outside of bowls are STICKY due to them wearing the same gloves to prepare and then seal the bowls. I ordered the Power bowl which is identical to what I order at another local shop but this was lacking the chocolate protein and the bananas were frozenish.
