I had been searching for a good place to get acai and pitaya bowls and I had seen and heard of this place. My sis met me to get my daughter's haircut in the same shopping area so we stopped in for some bowls here, after. I ordered the 8th Ave. Bowl which is acai based, very traditional. However, they have a ton of other options like pitaya based bowls, green based bowls, smoothies and so much more! The menu can be overwhelming but it's a good reason to keep coming back to try new items on menu :) The actual place is so beautifully designed. It's vibrant, island vibes with a hint of TX details! Well if this place isn't chill and cool I don't know what is. I love the beach/surfer theme for the decor. Well if you need a sweet fix but don't want to feel awful afterwards this is your place. Everything is fresh, light and delicious and served by a prompt and polite staff. Don't let the pictures fool you, these are no small bowls. I think everything on the menu is delicious, from bowls to smoothies or juices in the fridge case. The costa bowl, the Nutella bowls (both with banana bases (base is the flavor of fruit sorbet on the bottom)) and the strawberry banana coconut smoothie were downed by our family. The bowls are delicious, I personally like the coconut base, but there large enough to be a good sized snack and keep you full for a while. There on the pricier side but are worth it as a occasional treat saying they cost about 13 dollars a bowl. There was a bit of a line and it was pretty busy when I went but with that in mind it came out in about ten fifteen minutes. Overall it's a great experience and the vibes inside are super fun and summery if you're looking for a nice place to hang out anytime. read more

First of all, this place is GORGEOUS! Tropical artwork and murals on every wall. I didn't go in to the restroom, but my teenager said it was beautiful and a 10/10 bathroom she would definitely visit again. Second- the kids on staff were extra sweet. I came in with three kids, the youngest of which was a sleeping infant. They were polite and even brought my drink to the table for me while I was rocking the baby to sleep. Absolutely service! Finally, everything was fresh, healthy, and delicious! This was the absolute perfect treat for the summer, and far better than grabbing ice cream. The kids loves being able to pick their favorite fruits and toppings. We all took turns trying each other's bowls, which will only make it easier for each of us to order something different next time! My husband and I really do enjoy playa bowl but unfortunately there has already been 3 separate times where we've ordered bowls and one of ours had a hair in it. After the 3rd time we have decided we won't be ordering from here anymore unless we see that that they make changes as far as their employees wearing hairnets. Been craving an acai bowl since I had one in San Diego. Playa Bowls offer Acai bowls, mango bowls, pitaya bowls (dragon fruit), coconut bowls, banana bowls, smoothies, pressed juices, and coffee. You can also customize your own bowls. The menu can be overwhelming, but what distinguishes one bowl from another is their base (ex: bowl type) and 1-2 ingredients (like a fruit, hone or no honey, granola, or no granola, etc.). You just need to determine what you like. I got an acai tropical bowl (granola, pineapple, banana, honey & coconut flakes). They weren't stingy on the ingredients, and they were fresh, but then again you're paying ~$13 for a bowl. Presentation was superb! What disappointed me most was that acai melted before I could even find a place to sit outside to enjoy my bowl--which was only a few steps away. I pretty much had to "drink" the acai. I would like to try their other bowls, but for now, I'm going to have to check out other places in town that offer acai bowls. Finally one day after picking my kids up from school, I took them out there to grab one since it was super hot outside and I knew they would like a cool snack before dinner. We ordered the Nutaya-Pitaya bowl, and it blew our minds! So fresh, so much flavor, so many layers of different colors and textures! This wasn't just fabulous on your taste buds, it was fun to look at too with so many bright and vivid colors. The menu has options for everything you could want. Very clean inside, great and friendly staff. Even if it's cold outside, I'll still make a trip here to get a big dose of fresh fruit and yumminess! Definitely a place to try. The bowls are a bit large, my daughter and I shared one, I don't think I could finish one by myself unless I was going to eat it as a meal replacement. But that's just me. The staff is very friendly and the owner was working the register when we got there. He was extremely nice and a guy you'd want to do business with. The açaí is about the best in town. When I first heard of this place on Good Eats SA, i was so excited. The staff member who helped me wasn't too service friendly when I asked about what was good here. I told her I was between the Electric Mermaid and the Nutella. She said the Nutella is better with açaí and asked if that is what I wanted. I tried her recommendation and wasn't too impressed. The Nutella was put directly on top of the cold açaí and it formed a hard shell that wasn't too pleasant to eat. It threw off the composition of the bowl in my opinion, but I guess I'm used to Rise Up açaí bowls and presentation. read more

Look at the size of these amazing açaí and pitaya bowls! They are generous with portions of fresh fruits. Delicious, refreshing, and so far the best I've had in San Antonio and surrounding areas. It is as good as my favorite Açaí bowl Brazilian food truck in Hawaii! I love the fact that both owners at Playa Bowls San Antonio are Air Force veterans and registered nurses, and offer a discount to all healthcare workers, veteran/active/retired/guard/and reserve members. According to the owner, they're acai is blended in Brazil in a proprietary Playa Bowls factory, using only the berry pulp, and then it's shipped to each store. I ordered a DoorDash from them today and was severely disappointed. I've ordered from them multiple times before and have had no issues making this smoothie the way I like it. I ordered a pink pitaya smoothie with extra coconut milk and even specified I prefer it a lighter pink color. I was severely disappointed when it came with the dark color, tastes like all they used was the mix and had no pineapple or coconut flavor that I paid 6$ more for special requests. I called to see if it could be corrected or refunded since it does not taste good, gross for lack of words. I was super nice about it and the manager, Isabella, told me that she was not able to fulfill my request of extra coconut milk because that makes it a juice not a smoothie and "that's bad for the company." She did nothing to right the wrong and told me she's sorry about the issue but I need to know for future reference that extra coconut milk is not allowed. The two stars are for the bowl. It's the only thing they managed to follow the directions on. I will not be ordering here again. read more
