I'm originally from Northern California/Bay Area so I know what authentic Mexican food tastes like. It's been tough with the Fargo Mexican food scene since a lot of places I've been to don't really hit the mark... HOWEVER. Plaza Azteca went above and beyond my expectations. Monica and the manager did not seat us for over an hour as we watched several large parties get seated. I called the day prior to alert them of our large party. Food was great! I had a veggie fajita and my son had a steak fajita. Well seasoned and the portion size was really good. Chips and salsa were wonderful. They do guacamole at the table if you want it. I wasn't sure what to expect.... a Mexican restaurant in West Fargo, ND.... it didn't disappoint. The jalapeño margarita is amazing! Fresh lime, citrus, and slice of jalapeño made this margarita memorable. Although I didn't have the table side guacamole, I watched it being made and was impressed by the freshness of all the ingredients. Tortilla chips were light and crisp! Also, a lady that comes to your table with her cart to make fresh guacamole right there. The service was excellent as well. Great food! This place is brand new. The customer service is amazing. Very clean and plenty of parking spaces.

What a pleasant surprise this turned out to be!! So we checked into our hotel and my wife asked where we could get some good Mexican food. He recommended Plaza Azteca and suggested the Mahi Mahi. So we got settled into our room and took off. It was just down the street which was nice as well. So we were seated immediately and shortly after we had a Hispanic guy ask if we would like some guacamole. We absolutely wanted it so he made it tableside and it was a delicious beginning to our experience. It was pretty late so we decided to share the Mahi Mahi tacos which came with rice and black beans. Our server (so sad I can't remember his name as he was so attentive and personable) brought our food within 10 minutes. Holy cow!!! These were the best Mahi tacos that we have ever had, and we have eaten a lot of them all over the country. The fish was grilled and seasoned perfectly. It was tender and full of flavor. The beans and rice had great flavor and were the perfect addition. I highly recommend this place. It has a large seating area and a bar that looked nice. Good ambience and excellent food. read more

We heard good things about this place on Yelp. It has 4 stars. It was disappointing. There doesn't seem to be much coordination among staff, who were friendly but did a lot of running back and forth. We had to ask for napkins and, when they brought our food, for silverware. The women's bathroom needed toilet paper. The music was so loud, you had to almost shout. Some staff wore masks. Some had them only covering their mouths. Some wore no masks. My husband's lunch was an enchilada, a shredded beef taco (make sure you ask or it will be ground beef), and a chili relleno. It came with small servings of rice and beans on the lunch menu. It's a pretty good deal for $11.95. After hesitating, I chose the taco salad instead of the chimichanga from the lunch menu. The taco salad ($9) was very small. It had very little lettuce, but lots of ground beef on the bottom. The salsas were either too mild or too hot. We like hot, but all you could taste was cayenne. They do have a white salsa that we liked a lot. The tortilla chips were the best part of the meal. We'll probably continue to go to Casa Mexico instead. read more

First visit to Plaza Azteca. Ordered Fajita taco salad and chicken street tacos. The salad was bland, lettuce, small amount of tomatoes and a few pieces of onion. It had some kind of white sauce on the bottom of the shell that had no taste. The chicken seasoning was the same as what was on the street tacos chicken. So, I dont know what was the Fajita part of the salad. I'll return again and try something else, we'll see how it is a second time. Just disappointed. read more

As cool as the interior of this place is, I really wish the food was better. I've been three times and gotten fajitas as well as the pollo gratinado and neither one were impressive. Their cheese dip is good, but I think that's a tough one to mess up. The table side guac is fun and pretty tasty as well, although it could've been mashed a bit better. Drinks were good, frozen margaritas were flavorless and tasted like there was no alcohol. The service has been great although we waited 50 minutes to be seated and watched many tables our size be seated before us that had just arrived. After multiple visits, I can say easily this is my favorite Mexican restaurant in all FM area. Food is fresh and authentic. Atmosphere is modern but welcoming. Shortly after siting down, you are treated to free warm fresh chips with a traditional salsa and a white sauce dip (think sour cream and mayo with spices). Can't go wrong adding queso cheese for dipping. I have liked everything I have ordered! Tacos, burritos, enchiladas all super good. Favorite so far is the chimichanga. Refried beans at most other places are an "eh" or skip all together. Not here. The refried beans are amazing! Can I order a whole side dish of just refried beans?? I will ask next time. read more

Plaza Azteca is a nice place for Mexican food with a touch of sophistication. We thought the food was light but delicious, not as heavy as some other Fargo places when it comes to Mexican food. Service was quick, polite, and professional, and they took plenty of precautions from what we could see. The decor is minimalist modern with white walls and neutral gray accents centered around a gray driftwood tone. Lots of natural light with modern electric lighting that keeps it dim and romantic. The food was incredible... really some of the best Mexican we've had, our margaritas seemed to be made with high-end tequila although we didn't ask for top-shelf stuff, and in the end, the bill was comparable to Mexican Village or Paradiso. I placed an order for 15 people (with a couple of extras) over the phone on a Monday. Monica was rude and dismissive of the order and did not thank me for the order (isn't that customer service 101?). The following day I called to confirm the order and once again Monica was rude. On Wednesday, we arrived to pick up the order, but they had forgotten about the order! No one apologized or offered to add a little freebie to the order. They do not have bags large enough to hold the several trays of food so we were hoping nothing would spill in the car. Due to their delay, we were late for our meeting. Midway through the meal, the waiter disappeared and was never seen from again... yet, not a single employee came over to check in, ask how the meal was, offer more tea or the check.
